Chapter 1 - Kenji, a demon?
Kenji was your average teenage boy. He had plenty of friends. He’d usually like more than anything to find an excuse to get out of the house. This morning Kenji didn’t feel like getting out of bed. He had absolutely nothing to do today. He laid there staring up at the ceiling, “I wish I had something to do today.”
He finally decided to get up and walk out of his room. The first thing he saw when he opened his bedroom door was decorations. A bunch of decorations. Birthday decorations. All down the hallway. Kenji suddenly became quite irritated. He was sick of his mother doing this every year. It was so annoying. “Mother, is this really necessary?” he called down the hall.
“Oh hi honey,” Emi said to him as he walked down the hallway. “I didn’t know you were up. These decorations are in celebration of your eighteenth birthday,” she said smiling.
Kenji shook his head saying, “It’s still three days away.”
“You mean only. Kenji you’ll be 18 in three days! Isn’t it great!?” Emi was real excited.
“Yeah..real great,” Kenji made no attempt to hide that he wasn’t excited. I’m tired of her doing this every year. You’d think she would come up with something new.
Of course, in a way, it was typical of someone his age. Kind of like a ‘big deal’ sort of thing when your birthday rolls around. Is it because he just didn’t care anymore? Or was Kenji getting real tired of the same old routine every year?
Every year, his mother, Emi would set up decorations a few days before his birthday. Every year she’d have a big party for him. Kenji knew she was planning the same thing this year. He was getting bored and tired of it.
“Wow,” Emi was suddenly at the kitchen window. Kenji didn’t even see her go into the kitchen. “Look at how cloudy and windy it is outside.”
“Is it going to be a thunderstorm?” Kenji sounded almost excited. “I hope it is.”
Emi gave her son a quizzical look. “Since when did you want a thunderstorm?”
It’s true. Kenji never did like thunderstorms. And now out of the blue, he wants a thunderstorm to happen. Kenji, himself, couldn’t even answer the question: ‘Why do you want a thunderstorm?’ He didn’t even know. It was odd and he knew it.
“Mother, I’m going to go visit Kotani,” Kenji suddenly remembered his friend Kotani. He would be out in this kind of weather right?
“No you’re not,” came his father’s voice. Kino had been sitting on the couch the entire time listening to the conversation.
“Father, you know how Kotani only likes to be out when the sun isn’t. This is probably the only time I can visit him during the day.”
Kino got up from the couch and walked over to his son. “And don’t you find that strange?”
Oddly enough, Kenji didn’t find it in the least strange. Though he used to. But now, for some reason he doesn’t. “No I don’t.”
“You’re not going, Kenji,” Kino merely said.
“And why can’t I?” Kenji was starting to get angry.
“I’m your father and I say you are not going!”
This was a lie. Kenji knew he was an adopted child. Though they never told him he was, he knew. This man standing before him..wasn’t his father. He was some guy that raised Kenji like a father. But he wasn’t his father. His real father, was someone Kenji didn’t know. Someone who he had never met and probably never will. “No you’re not!”
He stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him. He forgot all about his want to visit Kotani, and ran to his favorite spot in the woods. “I’m so glad I decided to run here,” Kenji would’ve gone crazy if he would’ve stayed at home.
A few minutes after he left though, there was a knock on his front door. Emi was the one that ended up answering the door. Kino came up behind her a few seconds later. What they saw outside their front door were three dark looking figures.
It was three men all dressed in black. Just about everything about them was black. Well except their eyes. Their eyes were an eerie red color. “Can we help you?” Kino asked the three.
The one in the middle smiled. You could barely see fangs. Not that Emi or Kino noticed this at all. “We are looking for someone,” he stated.
Emi and Kino looked each other. “Who?” Emi asked him.
“And Why?” Kino added.
The one on the left suddenly spoke, “We do not know his name.”
“We only know he has the scroll we want,” the man on the right added.
Scroll? What were they talking about? Neither Emi nor Kino knew what this was. They never knew of any scroll. Unless Kenji..unless he knew something. No. Kenji would’ve told them about it if he did.
“I think you may have the wrong house. We’ve no idea what you are talking about.” Kino told them.
“We know he lives here. Don’t lie to us.”
With that they all three stepped in the house. The middle one did something that Emi and Kino had never seen. They couldn’t even explain it. Then all the lights in the house were suddenly off. “Now then, three live in this house, where is the other one?”
Kenji suddenly heard a noise and sat up real quick.
“Calm down,” a female’s voice came when he was looking around. Then she suddenly appeared in front of him. “But you shouldn’t be here. The vampires will eventually find you here.”
Vampires? That can’t be right. “That’s impossible.”
The girl just looked at him. “Nothing is impossible.”
“Ok fine, what’s going on.”
With wind swirling around her, she said, “Kenji, you are demon. Go to Kotani. He’ll explain the rest.” Then she was gone.
Demon? What? Kenji didn’t believe a word of it. And just how does she know Kotani?

My Story
Here's a little intro on what I plan to have this story be about.
Basically, a young demon named Kenji grew up with humans. His clan was killed by vampires. The Vampires were after this scroll. It was the last remaining of it's kind in the world. Kenji's clan possessed it.
This scroll enabled them to summon what they called a Great Demon. It represented the element of thunder. The scroll ended up being sealed inside of Kenji. He was then sent to live with his foster parents that happened to humans. So, now he's 17 with a birthday coming up and he's been acting very different than he used to be. What happens on Kenji's 18th birthday? Does he find out he's not human? What else will this story entail?
