A map of the Earth in 2130 A.D. This ties in with the Stained Galaxy II sci-fi RPG (not on Roleplay Adventures).

Sporadic nuclear and biological warfare during the first half of the 21st Century has rendered vast tracts of the Earth's surface uninhabitable, while runaway climate change effectively destroyed Earth's agriculture and submerged much of the land surface. Approx. 66% of the remaining land has been desertified due to overfarming and overgrazing. To top things off, the Sun was nearly destroyed in the 2050s and the resulting phase shift led to mass starvation.

Many humans left for Earth's extrasolar colonies during the 50s and 60s. Those left behind lived under the dominion of the remaining superpowers, since the Earth was so drained of resources that small nations became unfeasable. By the beginning of the 22nd Century, the USA had managed to unite the planet, forming the Earth Empire and exercising it's control over humanity's colonies.

Today Earth has no resource incentive of it's own. The bulk of the population is divided between a wealthy multispecies business class, indigenous peoples not willing to leave the planet on cultural grounds, and those too destitute to leave in the first place. Earth is considered a major planet by virtue of it's strategic location on FTL lanes between Cosmopolis and the Shinobi Empire. Oh, and the sun is red. -falcon-

Here's another map, this time of the Earth's moon.

Colonial interest in Luna was high during the 21st Century. By the time the Earth Empire had come into being, many Lunar citizens had left for more valuable and habitable colonies in other star systems.
