Basically, it's symbolic of the way (at that point in time) I felt I had all these problems that were too monstrous to deal with, but I was creating all of them. If you look closely everything is connected back to me, there's aspects of myself pushing the 'beast' away but also some that are tying it to me.

edit: and yes, I believe there is a bandaged heart in there somewhere..
