Pure Playing with pencils

I had not drawn a thing with a pencil in over two years before returning to RPA. Funny enough, I dont find drawing remotely close to being the same as riding a bike. A few elements stick with you but not that many at all.

So I'm making thread as a pencil art dump for any RPA inspired pencil drawings I deside to do when I'm not freting over my comic which I apear o be stuck on, all becuase I cna't do the city shot.

I'll post most of the Beast Wars non panel stuff here too. character desgns and Etc...

This is the last thing I've drawn so far.
This is a samurai shot I did for pheonix but i came out really wonky,which is a negative so many of my characters tend to have in common. Pheonix asked me to draw him a character and this was what I came up with. I gave his a cross like beard and a bald head which is ironic since Phe has allot of hair. ^^

Jin's War Images I drw for my book. I spent ages trying to come up with the perfect images for Jin/Drake/Page/Naya in the end they were too wonky for me. But I liked theses ones.

This is pretty normal. Drawing is one of those things you'll have to keep working with. If you don't your abilities will slowly decline. I've tried that myself several times.

Though I do have to mention. Clea nad Merry use the same picture. Don't know if thats intentional.

Thank you every one for your feedback! you have no idea how much it motivates me to keep on drawing. No seriously, its the fuel that keeps me going. drawing is no fun if its not meant to be seen.

I have created Delicross!! It was hard but I totally did it. I create a couple more fashion pics too. Can't post them because I'm using the last 1 meg of data(If this doens't send then meh I tried) Deli gave you short hair beucase its how I remember you and how I'll picture you forever. ^^

I have an idea for Innkeeper. But I prolly wont start on it till next month as I'm trying to create a risque fashion pic for everyone I've drawn so far. (What can I say i love the human form...okay fine the female form...yes most of the risque pics are of the women X__X, I'm becoming tiger woods, without the money)

Also good news!! I'm totaly starting on Beast wars issue 2 again! I chickened out of starting it becuase I needed to draw a landscape picture...still crapping my pants but I'l try anyway.

Actually its bullshit expensive...I could write a shit load about how shitty the situation is but yeah its a waist of time. These are the full body out fits. The first I created was dineo packing a fun body top with tights as a bottom, thouhg this particular piece is has skirts at the bottom instead of just tights. htis is a one pice with the back completely covered.

(This is actually part one of a much bigger fantasy picture but I thought I'd post it becuase I like it. you'll notice the bell bottom sleeves, that's a JF trade mark right there ^^. the jeans and the belt are nothing of note so Im not gonna claim anything there. X_X)

This is Kai packing one of my fav JF items and Top. You'll notice the thick bottoms and the jacket both are trade marks for JF studios... ^^
The massive heeled platforms and the skirt are also a part of the JF clothing lines. ?I hope you like this one, it took age the wings took forever!!

Thank you! I love your choice of the word Daring becuase that's what it feels like sometimes when I draw. ^^

Yush!!! I want critisism. I'm not trying to be a professional artist as I only do pencils but I want to be the pencil artist I can be. You can critisize me on anything as htere was allot I was not confident on.
I wanna hear about what you think of the clothing, the bodies themselves, the feet, the legs, the breats(I tried oddly hard to make them look real, did I? do they?), the fact that you never see anyone's hands, the hair styles(which is the tool I'm using to make each character unique), hte realis of the body posses., the fact that my faces seem to shoot down in quality in AL my body images. The fact that merrideth's face is never the same.
Tell me, I want to know. I have fairly thick skin when it comes to drawing. (Less when it comes to my writing ^^)

Also I'm experimenting with hatching and cross hatching(I'm still not sure I'm doing cross hatching right...)

I need to know that I'm practising hte right stuff. If you want I can post y method for drawing Kai if you wanna see how I draw...

I'm sure Kris could provide better criticism than I but I will do my best to be of help! I'm no professional artist so don't take my word as law - Just some suggestions I personally think might help.

Bodies:

It's hard to say anything without knowing how you draw. Do you sketch out a basic skeleton before you start? I find it's a really helpful way to make sure things are in proportion. Nothing in-depth, of course, but a small triangle for the pelvis, circle for the skull, rounded rectangle for the rib cage and lines for the normal bones like arms, legs and spine. From there on, you can add ovals to the lines for muscles. Once the sketch is down, you can start drawing the real body with flesh and all.

The best way to explain it would be to direct you to this tutorial ( http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/324/c/3/_anatomy_tutorial__by_odduckoasis-dgd312.jpg). It pretty much says what I’m trying to explain.

Never shy away from Google – It will have images of anything imaginable. If you’re not sure how a particular limb should look, try and find a picture of it.

Boobies:

I actually think you have a relatively good grasp on breasts in comparison – At least you don’t draw them as two massive circles like most anime artists I see xD

The one picture I can see a slight issue in is the ‘dress of sorts’ image. As far as I can see, she has no bra or support beneath her breasts. As such, it’s unlikely her boobs with be pushed together so much. Minus a bra, they will be more sagged and spaced further apart. If the reason for their pushing together is because the dress is so tight, they are unlikely to stick out so much to the sides.

Also, on the picture of Kai, her breasts seem to be… dented?

Hands:

Draw them.
You’ll never learn how if you don’t do it.
Learn the basic anatomy behind them. Look up reference if it doesn’t look right and learn how.

Hair:

You’re a pencil artist. One of the best things about being a pencil artist is using the strokes to your advantage.

The strokes of your pencil when drawing hair should mimic the direction they would grow in real life. If you don't know how the hair should be growing, use Google again and find out.

The same applies when drawing the hair on-top their head. Hair grows from the same point or hairline. All hair should originate from this direction. If the hair is mid-to-long in length, it should not be made of short clumps and spikes.

Poses:

The only real issues I see with some of your poses is that they look off balance (Kai is leaning too far back, Jacket-Girl is leaning too much to the left) so yeah…

Plan out your drawing beforehand like I mentioned in Bodies.
Take a step back.
Check they are not about to topple over.

In an ugly nutshell this is me I draw a stick man. I measure out his body porpotions then make sure I like his /her pose. Then I start forming hte outlines, bulging where my refferences say I need bulges etc. Until something that looks like a human being is born.
Then I start fleshing out some more. Here is a one two part example.

Then fleshed out....I never thought to stop once I started seriously drawing. T_T Yo usee her feet because she was origianlly supposed to be modelling a T shirtbut I liked the way the torso had worked out so I went for shoes instead. Notice the 2 circles. I only use curcles for the head and the waist becuase those are most important to me in porportion. Also I do not use a circle in a frontal view I use angled disks which create the outline of hte pelvis. I got that technique from Andrew Loomis. That guy is awesome. ^^ I lost his figure drawing Ebook....T_T

I went and googled this Andrew Loomis guy to see what you meant - Is this (http://www.fineart.sk/?s=0&cat=15) the artist you mean? He's really good; I should probably read through that tutorial of his when I have the time x___x

As for Odessa, I can see the benefits of drawing it like that - The only problem I see is that the bones, muscle and fat structures seem to intermingle. For example, if we look at where her butt and spine is. Obviously, the spine joins to the rear of the pelvis structure. When the legs are lifted up and the arms move down to hug them, the body is naturally compressed. The spine has to bend outwards to compensate for this reduction of space and to maintain balance.

Because of the simplified structure you've drawn, the spine remains straight giving her an awkward and strained-looking pose. It also seems to mingle bone and butt-fat. Personally, I always feel fat should be drawn on afterwards for this reason - Whilst her bones and muscles should remain rigid, the fat of her butt should squash against the wall she is sitting on, providing her a seat of fat on which to balance herself. The minimal amount of leg and butt fat she is balancing on contributes to an unsteady pose.

Considering her rather down yet untense expression, I think it would bring the picture together if the pose was more comfortable to maintain.

On the other hand, I really like her left leg and her feet and shoes. You are quite brilliant at designing clothing.

And I really feel I should stop commenting before I do manage to offend you xD

that's andrew loomis. I have faces and hands(Great reading) and I have succcessful drawing(its too advanced for me to learn from) and I had figure drawing(that book was like a bible for the time that I had it).

I would never be angry at you, ever, not if I know you're trying to help, which you are and that is all I ask for, help. The only way a person could ever be upset would be if the person crtiquing was making a joke of a peron's work(I hate getting that feeling) then the artist was the right to be upset other wise they should listen and I am listening intently.

Which reminds me, the 'dented breast' on Kai? I forgot to mention. I kinda did that on purpose. It was supposed to sugest the elactic on the top of hte dress was a little too tight for her chest.(Clearly that message did not get across X_X) The extreme post on the kai picture was on purspoe too. I'll show you the reffence image...Yet when looking at the picture again I realise I put the shoulders too far back so nevermind.

PS so you know. I love you, Riddles and Kris for helping me with the detail of my works. I wont lie, it makes me hesitate every tmie I'm about to draw but I see that was a good thing....okay goodish thing ^^(I hate hesitating)
