Just a tip.

1) Create a new canvas the size you want the picture to be.

2) Select the color you want the outline to be.

3) Then create a 'linework layer'. (It's under the layers tab.)

4) Go back to your original layer and do a quick sketch with the pen. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just need to be a general base with you to make the real outline from.

5) Now go back to the line work layer.

6) Once there, draw over the sketch with not the pen tool but the curve and line tools to get smoother lines. I'd suggest size 0.7 if you want small lines. The curve and line tools only work when you're using a linework layer, though. And they make drawing simpler, in my opinion, when you do not have a tablet. Another tip is to rotate the art as you go to get better curves, and clearer lines.

7) Once you're satisfied with your lines, hide your lines by clicking the little eye icon beside of the linework layer.

8) Go back to your original layer and erase the sketch.

9) Now, go back to your linework layer and click where the eye icon was before. This will show your lines again.

10) Go to the layers tab and click merge down. This will transfer your lines to your original canvas, and the linework layer will disappear.

11) Go to the layers tab and click copy. This will create another layer to your left, a copy of your lines.

12) Click the copy layer.

13) Where is says 'normal', above where the layers are, click the arrow and select multiply. This will allow you to color without going over your lines.

14) Select a color, and off you go! Color to your heart's content. Create copy's after filling in one section at a time.

example:
- fill your white background outside the lines, with pale blue
- If you mess up, click the erase tool, and carefully go over where you've colored into the lines to erase it. Don't worry, if you've been following along so far, the lines won't disappear.
- Then create a copy of your partially colored art.
- click the copy and start coloring the next section.

15) To merge the layers, start with merging the copy closest to your first layer, and then slowly work your way up. This will help it combine better.

16) All done! Enjoy your art.

Hope this helps.

^_^ This tutorial works! I have to say, making the lines was hard work, but not as much as trying to color in between the lines ;_; I thought I just sucked at coloring with colored pencils, markers and crayons... Now it looks like I suck at drawing in general XD

Omega Zero.. Good luck! It's really easy to use SAI, but well, it can be a little confusing at first. At least it was for me. It's not hard to get the english version either.

Miss Spelling..I'm glad to hear it works! I just basically typed out the steps I use to draw in SAI. Making the lines does take quite a while, depending on what you want to draw.
P.S.: Don't give up on drawing. Everyone sucks at first. It just takes practise, as cliche as that sounds.
