In association with ‘The Practice Thread’, we are introducing a new way to hone your skills and have fun drawing!
‘Doodle Me This’ will be a fortnightly competition, revolving around a different theme each round.

To enter, all you need to do is sketch something related to the given subject.

We won’t be looking for detailed pictures (although you are more than welcome to do so);
Doodles are all it takes to participate!

Each winner will receive a sum of Reputation Points as a prize and will be added to the Leader’s Board.

You do hands rather nicely, though. There are some sharp edges where there shouldn't be edges, but all in all you've got a good grasp of handnatomy.

Personally, I love drawing bony hands. They pronounce the more delicate bits in the anatomy of the hand, and can also show how the muscle/tendons/bone/etc. attaches beneath the skin, making them a great tool for gaining a better understanding.

I don't consider myself a realistic drawer in the slightest. So I didn't even bother trying to go for that. Instead I drew a comic of what happened in my Spanish class Friday. Hey, it has to do with hands and feet right? ~rofl~

Ohhh my good senses about me! Such epic pictures from many of RPAs most reknown talents & skillful artisians. I think they are all very grand indeed & I am glad I am not a judge, cause I see lots of winners, great humor, & some effort as well. I can also tell when artists are holding back the lion's share of their true potential, just goofing around to have fun, & also when actual commited effort has been made. I might not be able to weigh in on every artist, but when you spend time viewing anothers work, certain insights about that particular artist's abilities & style become apparent.

So the sketches of things with the arrows pointing to the hand/feet represent a theme I was going with. Like the nose, I drew a hand making its way up to do some dirty business, if you catch my drift. ;) The tree root to become a foot with some additional qualities added on aaaannnnddd you get the rest.

Obviously the bottom is just random crap I threw in...

Ok, first I know little about uploading my own pictures/doodles/art up on the computer, nor do I know how to change resolution. (any advice would be helpful!!!) My apologies...also this is the first time in my life that I've ever put anything I've created from paper on the interwebz so be gentle. There is a strong likely hood of me joining in this round as well...But I will need to figure out my theme of illustration, otherwise I let myself down. Unfortunately, I always doodle, sketch, draw, or & render with some goal in mind ever ssincemy 7th grade or about when I was 12 or 13. So that's over 20 years of working with a theme in mind when putting pencil to paper... maybe I will try & wing it. But that is highly unlikely as I do my better works with an objective at heart.

Besides, I think I will keep my title of artistic pictures for this thread called Under the Wire & try to make em in at the last day possible LOL.

Please don't hesitate... Scanning takes but a minute, hosting, a minute, & posting a minute. So 3 minutes tops with my Vista PC & weak scanner with no art programs... Barely worthy photo editing software which isn't PhotoShop :'( Most time should be spent on our doodles themselves & It's fun following another's direction for rendering. Those who seek a job in the art field should already know you won't be drawing what you want, but what the client desires... So this is great practice!

This is incomplete as of yet, but I'm still going to post my progress because I can.

So I decided to MTFU and do a serious drawing and not a sketch. So I sat in my chair and thought "What is not common in my country". But then I said 'To hell with that, I'm drawing cliffracers. They aren't so common in our world anyway, so it should be fine'.

I opened Sumo Paint and drawn an original sketch without any refference, to give me an idea as to what I want

That's slightly better. Now we have to get to coloring. Oh joy! Since I invariably mess up every single time I use multiple layers, all my coloring will be on one layer. Yay!

Alright so I went with an object, and it happens to be a Chinese porcelain vase. I took designs I seen on different kinds, and made it into one. Does that count?

I am self taught too. I learned from people around me & had an eye for what I want to illustrate. Scanning is just a tool in your artistic arsenal in which to share your wonderful art with us.

1st off the top very nice vase from the East! & Lady, I also remember the Cliff Racers from Marrowind, very nice with those as well.

2nd. As far as your scanner... there are a few options hopefully to improve upon its abilities. I initially had a poor man's scanner, so my scans still had some details to them... but I scanned them at low quality so they ended up smaller scale to what I could have scanned. Basically, try to always scan at 300 DPI of your original. Also, most scanners have 3 settings or more on which way to scan. By this, I mean to say there is black & white, gray scale, & color scanning.

In my opinions, black & white are only good for solid inked works using black line art. For any kind of blending, shading, or layering that isn't cross hatching lines go with gray scale when using leads & charcoals (make sure to wipe your scanner screen down after too ;)). If you are using blue pencils for underlines & drafts, then penciling over those blue roughs, consider using color for your scanning purposes.

There will be other options too while scanning, like darkening the image or lines, removing dust or noise from the picture, & so on... experiment with your settings to find an optimum one that suits your illustrations. Hope that helps out some. I graduated from a cheap scanner to a somewhat cheap one. It was a step up, but it was needed for my purposes & what I wanted. You do pay for what you get, I went cheap & got cheap results LOL.

I am self taught too. I learned from people around me & had an eye for what I want to illustrate. Scanning is just a tool in your artistic arsenal in which to share your wonderful art with us.

1st off the top very nice vase from the East! & Lady, I also remember the Cliff Racers from Marrowind, very nice with those as well.

2nd. As far as your scanner... there are a few options hopefully to improve upon its abilities. I initially had a poor man's scanner, so my scans still had some details to them... but I scanned them at low quality so they ended up smaller scale to what I could have scanned. Basically, try to always scan at 300 DPI of your original. Also, most scanners have 3 settings or more on which way to scan. By this, I mean to say there is black & white, gray scale, & color scanning.

In my opinions, black & white are only good for solid inked works using black line art. For any kind of blending, shading, or layering that isn't cross hatching lines go with gray scale when using leads & charcoals (make sure to wipe your scanner screen down after too ;)). If you are using blue pencils for underlines & drafts, then penciling over those blue roughs, consider using color for your scanning purposes.

There will be other options too while scanning, like darkening the image or lines, removing dust or noise from the picture, & so on... experiment with your settings to find an optimum one that suits your illustrations. Hope that helps out some. I graduated from a cheap scanner to a somewhat cheap one. It was a step up, but it was needed for my purposes & what I wanted. You do pay for what you get, I went cheap & got cheap results LOL.
