Got an idea to make the forum a better place? Post it here and the staff will discuss the idea.

We ask that you do not suggest chat boxes of any kind for the forum. This idea has been suggested several times in the past and it will not happen. Sorry.

To Apotheosis and Extraordinaire, your suggestions from the the last page of the old thread have been read and are being taken into consideration.

As tradition dictates I must christen this new suggestion thread with a suggestion for the return of the ChatBox.
If need be I nominate myself as its Moderator.

If we're following that tradition, I'll be the person who obviously didn't read the previous posts and suggest a chat box again.

Hey I think we should have a chat box!

But seriously, I think we should have more RP contests! =D Like maybe someone (probs a Mod/Admin or multiple mods and Admin) could host a RP for all of RPA and the survivor/winner gets something special~

I say we have an RPA comic made! A real on with real well drawn pictures, and a good story, and a specially created Storyteller mod to guide it.

Explain more please, because there are more contests being made over the year, aside of the RPApril. I'd love to hear more ideas.

Both Extraordinaire's and Apotheosis' suggestions have been implemented. So now all members have the option to customize their profile pages, as well, you can also now see who has viewed a thread.

@Leon; You mean like a tournament type thing in an RP? I'm asking because I'm keep thinking of something like a Dungeons and Dragons tournament type thing where the players get points based on how they perform or what they manage to find or figure out in the case of puzzles

I would like to remind you guys of a request I sent in mass PM format a while back. I never got a reply from it.
I pitched three ideas. I don't know if you remember. It doesn't really matter.
One of those ideas was a concept I created called battle writers.
It's kinda an writing event of its own I was wondering if it were possible to get a badge for it or incorporate it into RPA.
If you dont know what on earth I'm talking about I'll rePM the Battle writers part.

Thank you ^^

Ooo! Gonna check that out! And the see who's veiw'd a thread is a little strange, but I guess I'll get used to. Plus I can see all the peeps reading my RPS >:]

Yes! Exactly! Well, I wasn't thinking EXACTLY Dungeons and Dragons, but yes, that idea. ^.^

*looks around for the old box*

*sees a brand spanking new one to defile* *proceeds to do so*

So in the comments sections of some digital newspapers (like the New York Times, for example, when you scroll down at the end of this article--which I picked only because it's a good example of this--that you see three tabs for the Comments section: All, Reader Picks, and NYT Picks (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/13/opinion/the-romney-package.html?src=me&ref=general)) they highlight certain posts as "Reader picks" and "NYT picks" for example. In a thread that goes several pages long, I think a feature that highlights "Staff Picks" and/or "Member picks" (or some alternative) would be genuinely useful for getting straight to the "best"/most informative/most essential posts of the thread for someone coming to a thread for the first time, or checking back in after a while. It doesn't prevent someone from reading the entire thread, but this could be especially useful for OOC threads and discussion threads that get lengthy with the natural banter/chat that occurs.

Does vbulletin have a feature that could enable that?

I don't know for sure if it does or not. However, if the other staff think of this idea as I do, it will be looked into. Even if it doesn't exist as a feature on the forum as it is, which on a quick examination I don't think it does, there is a possibility that there may be a modification that will allow this or something along the same lines.

I appreciate this might be what is meant by "Chat Box" But I was wondering if there was some form of Online-User-IM System that is available? as a method of quickly discussing Ideas for Role-Plays and such, without having to go through PM's?

Of course, there are probably a thousand and one reasons this can't happen, but It was just a thing i've often thought "Damn, That'd be so useful right now.."

You can always hook up with members on things like YIM, Live Messenger(AKA MSN) and Skype, all of which are actually supported by the forum software. All you need to have, as far as I know for it to work, is to have that particular messaging service installed on your computer and your contact name in the appropriate profile field which will then put an icon in the postbit(the area to the left of this post which contains the avatar) So if you look at the postbit, just under Rep Power, you will see a little icon, which you can click on and it will link you direct to that messenger. On yours, I can see by the icon that you have MSN. So if I were also to have MSN and clicked on your icon, it would allow me to send a message to you.

can there be a "quick links" on the front page of the website so people like me can immediately access their subscribed threads. just makes things more efficient
also a chatbox would be cool...

Red Rocker, while the 'quick links' tab doesn't appear on the home page, you can easily access it by clicking 'Forum,' and then 'Quick Links' - it's on the top bar, just underneath 'What's New.'

edit: Also I'm pretty sure there's been several conversations about the chat box thing - as far as I know it's been trialled in the past, and didn't work well.

This may be a feature I don't know about, but is it possible for a member to earn the right the send PMs faster? I understand why you have a time limit but it'd be really great if there were some way to earn faster PMs...

Okay okay
no chatbox
i realize its pretty effin annoying to have that thing next to everything you do on the forum

but what about a separate site devoted to chatroom stuff
im inspired by Imp's interviews

Too lazy to look, but how long is it now?

What you do off of RPA is entirely up to you(if I'm not mistaken there is a user created Skype group. Not sure if it's still active). However the staff of RPA will not endorse any chat type thing related to RPA. We will also not allow any drama from said site onto RPA. It's along the same lines of our rule not allowing issues from IM to be brought here. We take care of this site. Not any of the millions of others that are on the web.

The site mobile version isn't working. instead nook and iphones devices are sent to the regular sites without the style being appropriate to the small screen

Sorry for the delay. Try this.

Some search engines still list the site as http://role-player.net/forum/index.php opposed to http://role-player.net/forum/forum.php. My PC and Netbook both do an auto redirect but my phone just shows a white screen using index.php. That might be some of the issues PSP users or other phone users may run into accessing the site on the go. I do bring up the mobile site by entering http://role-player.net/forum/forum.php and at the bottom is the login option. Once logged in, it does give the option to go to full site.

If you still have problems, let us know.

When you receive a PM on this site the only thing telling you you got one is the little box at the top of the screen. For someone like me, who only has the RP forums showing on their screen this can mean I only see I've got a PM if I scroll up for some reason. Would it be possible to get a pop up that pops up every time you get a PM alerting you to the fact?

V
11-24-2012, 11:14 AM
there is an option in your settings I believe that makes a pop up saying you have a PM

Idea: possibly creating a new area for character journals? :D
Character journals can be used for helping to create a more
in depth character and are fun to have... Just an idea for
thought...

Leon G

I'm not sure how you would implement this, but is there a way you guys could make a "standard" for RPs?

Something simple like before posting an OOC you need to include:
What it's about
Character Sheet

I mainly make this suggestion because sometimes I see the OOC threads of each RP genre get cluttered up with roleplays that have a vague description and no CS. Yeah mods always suggest that they add a CS, but it's not too often implement. Also I guess it's their game and if they want to make it sucky if they want to they can, but a loooot of those threads w/o a CS and just a short plot sit there to collect dust.

Or even better, forget the standard and change it so that yellow names can't make RP threads. I also see people who will put a RP up, then never return to the site (maybe forgot web address, forgot username/password???), leaving the people that joined confused.
