Roleplay Adventures Forum Rules

What follows are some simple rules that are in place to ensure that the forum runs smoothly. Generally speaking, these rules apply to every forum, profile, and blog here at Roleplay Adventures.
These are the Rules. Break them and you risk a locked thread, a warning and/or a ban. If you have any questions, contact a staff member or an administrator. Ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the rules. If you register without reading this, you're risking a ban without even knowing why.
1. Yes, this is the internet, but this is our corner of it.
While this is on the Internet, these forums are not a democracy. We have rules, and we expect them to be followed. Most of the following is common sense and we do provide exceptional roleplaying services in return for your common courtesy.
2. Read the FAQs for each forum specifically before posting.
There are different ones for each forum. A specific rule will supersede a general rule.
Example: Advertisement for your own creative work is allowed in the Music forum, but not in the News and Current Events forum.
3. Open source roleplaying.
Any roleplay that you create is considered open source, as such RPA will not take any legal action should someone steal your work. This is site is for fun, therefore, if you are worried about someone stealing something that you post here, don't post it.
If you want, we will close a game if you ask in a clear, polite, message to one of the rp moderators. Upon receiving the message, we will move it to one of our archives. Do not ask the staff to delete a thread that encompasses the work of more then one individual, or posts that affect others' work. The answer will always be a swift and stern "no". Other people worked hard on that story too, and it's not fair to remove everyone's work for the sake of a single person.
Artwork and other literary work that is posted outside of the roleplaying forums are still your own based upon the rules and regulations of the site they are posted on.
4. Respect the staff.
Insulting a staff member will not be tolerated, regardless of circumstances. If you disagree with someone within the The Staff Team, then discuss it politely, and intelligently via the PM system. If you feel that your complaints are still not being addressed, then take it to another staff member. Overall, courtesy when communicating with the person in question will generally get you a much nicer response.
5. Don't Be A Jerk
Being abusive, elitist, or harassing another member for any reason is not allowed. Any grievance given due to race, nation, sex, creed, etc.. will not be tolerated, by anyone. If it happens to you or if someone has broken a rule, use the Report Button. That's what it's for. If someone has a question, or needs to be pointed to the rules, please do so, and leave it at that. The staff is in place to deal with the problems that arise. We will not tolerate anyone putting themselves above anyone else. Roleplay Adventures is a community of equals, and it will stay that way. Post count, join date, member number, or any other signifying measure is irrelevant. For more information on what is considered elitist, please refer to the Forum Etiquette
6. Keep your avatar and signature small and tidy.
Your avatar is limited to 130 x 130 in dimensions, and 25kb in size.
Your signature is limited to either 8 lines of text at default size and font, one 200-pixel-high sig image and three lines of text at default size and font, or the rough equivalent if you have a signature image that is less than 200 pixels high. The maximum width for a signature image is 500 pixels. Content within a spoiler tag has no limit on height nor width, but it is asked to keep it reasonable. The maximum total size for all your signature content is 256 kb. This can all be read in our Signature Guidelines
7. The forums must be work-safe.
In both compliance with the wishes of this sites creators, all content on the forums must be kept safely browesable at work and school areas. This means no explicit content in both imagery and literary devices. If within doubt, it is best to err on the side of caution. If the content must be made available, then warn of its possible unsafe nature. Pornographic content, however, is strictly not allowed to be linked to in any given situation.
Check out the Mature RP Rules to see what exactly is allowed in the only mature rated area of the forum.
8. No Site Pimping
Do not create threads to promote your website, your online recruitment game, your webcomic, or anything else. Small, clickable, text-only links within your signature are allowable as long as they are redirected to areas that are appropriate and meet all other rules. If you wish to have a thread made for your site, contact the staff for further instructions.
9. This is not a commercial site.
Selling stuff to our members isn't cool and isn't allowed. Also, don't link to your commercial website or online auction that is selling your stuff. Links to charity websites and the like will be checked out by admins. If they don't seem legit, we'll ask you to take them down.
10. No forum wars.
Don't start, participate in, or encourage forum wars directed at either here, or toward another website and/or forum.
11. Don't repost locked threads.
If threads get locked, they get locked for a reason. Don't make new threads asking why it happened, and don't whine. Apologies are also unnecessary.
12. Inappropriate usernames, avatars, profile pictures, and signatures are not allowed.
Whereas cursing is allowed (see guidelines below), you can't have a curse word within your username. If your username is suggestive, or even quite explicit, it will be changed by an administrator. Similarly, keep your username short. Obscenely large usernames are as well inappropriate, and subject to change.
Signatures, avatars, and profile pictures may not show nudity or promote illegal or explicit acts. As with usernames, the staff reserves the right to change/remove a signature or avatar that doesn't comply with the forum rules.
13. Do not open multiple accounts.
Only one account per person. If you are found to have more than one account then all of them may be banned. This also goes for proxy addresses. If you're found to be using a proxy ip address, you will be banned instantly. There really is no reason you should be using a proxy address.
This also includes members who were banned reregistering with new accounts. You will be caught and you will be banned again, so don't waste our time or yours.
14. Threats will not be tolerated.
Do not threaten other members with physical violence, or mental and psychological duress. Also, do not threaten the staff with damage toward the site or to the team itself. These matters are not merely inappropriate, but also illegal.
15. We are an English speaking site. (altered)
While we love and appreciate members of all countries and creeds, posts must be made in English. The reason for this is simple: we cannot moderate posts if we cannot understand them. If you do put up a post which contains a language other than English, please include an accurate translation as well
16. Piracy is illegal!(altered)
Posting/requesting sites for illegally obtaining games or software, or links to movies or television shows that haven't been released, or are being hosted illegally under US copyright law, or discussions on piracy of any said mediums, cannot be allowed. Such requests and links will be edited out. And you'll get the appropriate warning or punishment for it.
Also, plagiarism is bad. Don't steal other people's works, whether they are art, writing, photos, videos, whatever, and say they are yours. Also, it's silly to claim you are the author, model, actor, artist, whatever, who actually produced said work. We all have Google. We will find out if you're ripping off someone's stuff. And then you'll just be embarrassed because we'll all know you're a liar.
17. Do not needlessly bump threads
Please do not needlessly bump threads. If your thread has been up for a week or more and you wish to bump it we will allow it, but do not bump it up after only a day or two. Everyone wants their RP at the top of the page and if you are constantly bumping your own thread, yours will be the only one at the top of the page. Threads that are needlessly bumped will be closed and recycled. There are numerous ways on our forum to gather interest in your game. Please ask a mod how.
18. Do not ask to roleplay over I.M. or Email.
You are welcome to roleplay on the forum or privately via RPA's pm system but do not ask to rp off site (this includes email and I.M.) as it is considered to be advertising for other sites.
