Storyline

Imperial China
Early 6th Century A.D.

Centuries ago, well into the public unrest of the Sui Dynasty, a small sect of Shaolin monks - known as the Order of the Five Winds - established themselves in the capital city of Daxing (modern-day Xi'an) as the Emperor of the time was drafting several hundred young men into a war with the kingdom of Gorguryeo in modern Korea. Of the several hundred conscripted, disease and fatigue claimed the lives of all but a fraction of them before the war even began, and in their desperation, many of these men deserted and rebelled against the Emperor. This, coupled with the heavy casualties from the war itself and the strain on China's economy, plunged the streets of Daxing into violence.

In the midst of the chaos, the Order of the Five Winds maintained a degree of neutrality in the war by dwelling in secrecy among the peasantry; their first and only goal was to bring the country into an age of peace and restore stability in the restless capital city. But as the war raged on and the body count increased, a handful of disciples from the Order came to believe that the only way for the Empire to know peace was for the Order to conquer China for themselves and rule the nobility and peasantry alike with an iron fist. Unable to sway the Elders of the Order, who refused to use tyranny to destroy tyranny, the renegade monks - thereafter known as the Exiles - took to using black magic to accomplish their goal and turned against the Order, who ultimately defeated the Exiles and forced them to retreat into parts unknown. Nevertheless, realizing that the Exiles would not truly give up, the monks of the Order used their own magic to seal their power into various statues of individual animal symbols, all of which would remain hidden from prying eyes for centuries to come...

Present Day

Many years have passed since the Sui Dynasty, and hardly anyone knows of the Order of the Five Winds by now, but their legacy still has not died out completely. Zheng Wei, a martial arts master in his own right and a direct descendant of an Elder of the Order, inherited the powerful animal symbols in his youth, and has since assumed the task of guarding them until the time comes when they are needed again. More recently he has set up his own training school in Virtue Bay, the Five Winds Academy, where he trains the current generation in hopes of preparing them for when the Exiles will inevitably return.

But unknown to him, that time will come sooner than he thinks. Joseph Shea, CEO of the prominent weapons company Romulus Arms, has entered into a bargain with the Exiles to aid them in the coming war between them and the current remnants of the Order. In return for providing them with an army and weaponry for their conquest, Mr. Shea stands to gain a share of their dominion if and when the Exiles eradicate the Order that rejected them, along with any and all other resistance to their plans to dominate the world they sought long ago.

RP Rules

Standard rules include no godmoding, no powerplaying, no cybering, third-person story format only, and no content beyond a PG-13 level. In order to ensure literacy and proper handling of these rules, all character requests must include an RP sample for said character(s) of no less than two paragraphs.

Regarding inactivity (which I hope will not be a problem), if you do not reply on the IC thread within a week (7 days) of your last post, I will PM you with a warning message. If you do not post or give me some kind of explanation or response within a week after this warning is sent, you will be removed from the RP. Simple as that.

And finally, some Adoptable Characters will be available to you from the Allies and Foes sections, should you choose to claim any of them. To claim an Adoptable, simply fill out a profile of your own for that NPC. (A picture and a brief Mini-Bio will be given for each Adoptable, but these Mini-Bios are for background purposes only, and may be adjusted to suit the player's tastes.) Appearance: Mike is an even six foot and weighs roughly 190 lbs all muscle. His hair is dark ans usually styles in a faux hawk, his eyes are steel grey, body a healthy natural tan. Clothing usually consists off dark pants, despite Vitrue bay's warmer climate, red shirts, boots and hoodies.
Personality: Mike usually has a warm personality, he's kind and can get along well with pretty much anyone. He is outgoing and like to help other's in their training whenever he can. Mike enjoys commbat, one of the reasons he started lerning martial arts, and will fight with all he has. The only time Mike isn't happy is when someone mentions his father Joseph, their relationship isn't all that bad, just a tad bit straind. Or when someone mentions his deceassed mother. Or when someone acts differently towards him because of who his father is.
Short Bio: Mike has lived in Virtue Bay his entire life and has loved every minute of it. Growing up he's had a healthy childhood. Even if he had lost his mother at a young age he was able to move on, still hurts a bit to think about though. Going to one of Virtue Bay's private schools really wasn't all that interestin. Of course his father helped him get in. It was average, he did the work, got the grades and graduated. Mike didn't attend college, taking a year off to study martial arts a bit more before he has to load his day up with school work.

Personality: Assertive and down-to-earth, Amber rarely does not assume a leadership role at least to some extent in whatever her goals are. However, she often tends to act on impulse if she or someone else is threatened, and she has been known to display a hot temper if someone talks down to her for doing anything that she thinks is right.
Short Bio: Born and raised in Virtue Bay, Amber was first enrolled at the Five Winds Academy when she was seven, and during her time there she encouraged herself each year to advance a bit further in her skills than in the previous year. Later she also took a liking to Parkour after seeing a group of boys practicing the sport at her middle school, after which she began practicing herself just outside the testing areas of Romulus Arms, where her father worked as an engineer. It was during one of these "practice sessions" that she accidentally overheard her father's boss selling a small cache of guns to a group of college kids, who would later use exactly the same guns in a robbery and subsequent shootout at a bank near San Francisco. Although Amber told what she saw to her father, who in turn tried to report it to his superiors, his claim was ignored and he was ultimately laid off, leaving Amber resentful of Romulus Arms since then.
Other Notes: Amber more or less knows her way around most of the facilities at the Romulus Arms building in Virtue Bay, having spent a good amount of her childhood exploring the grounds.

Powers: Enhanced Reflexes, Speed, Agility and Durability. Can scale trees/walls and climb trees/building just like a monkey. He has immense upper body strength that allows him to do such thing, and is very athletic and limber.
Aside from these physical enhancements, his mind has become more lethal in a sense that he has developed a sixth sense that allows him to see a person's true intentions. Call it psychic if you will, though it isn't as developed. He is also able to control and manipulate sound. It can be used to silence his movements or as concussive blasts.

Personality: Straightforward and reliable, strong willed and determined. Four words that describe Arely perfectly. He is the type of person that will do his best to help others, but will speak his mind. He doesn't beat around the bush, and will get straight to the point. He tires to be truthful and respectful. He tries to do the right thing, but it seems like every time he tries to do good, evil is always present. Temptation seems to follow him wherever he goes. He's not conceited, nor does he show off his skills. He doesn't believe in bullying, and shuns those who do. He can be the all around good guy, but where is the fun in that?
Short Bio: Moved from Puerto Rico to Virtue Bay when he was four because his father's old job was closing down. His father is Caucasian and his mother is Puerto Rican. His father obtained a job in Virtue Bay that would prove to be a better source of income than his previous job in Puerto Rico. As such, his mother decided to obtain a job as well as a Fields Researcher at Romulus Arms. He began training at the Five Winds Academy at the age of five and has been there every since, perfecting the art he chose to learn, or rather chose him.
Other Notes: He loves chewing gum, and can be seen chewing almost constantly. He is nothing short of a tech wizard and walking text book, but he sometimes hides his smarts to keep from having to hurt someone for calling him names.

Powers: Possesses an accelerated healing factor, and can also heal others to a limited extent.

Appearance:
Personality: Outspoken and confident. Rosalyn is quick to try to make friends, but she is often too trusting for her own good. She also despises the classic stereotype of actors as vain, shallow brats who look down on others because of their status, and generally avoids those who do so.
Short Bio: Growing up in Virtue Bay, Rosalyn and her best friend Janet grew up dreaming of becoming movie stars together, and frequently went to their first auditions together. The pair got their first parts together in a sitcom when they were 14, but while Rosalyn's career began to take off from there, Janet barely found work afterward, mostly in minor roles. Upon landing her first leading role when she was 18, Rosalyn tried to bolster Janet's career by recommending her personally to the casting director, who was sufficiently impressed by Janet's audition that he agreed to cast Janet in a major supporting role.
But despite this success, Janet received few congratulations from the other actors, most of whom were popular, more experienced stars at the time. Whenever Rosalyn wasn't around to hear, some of these others made a habit of belittling Janet and making fun of whatever physical flaw - no matter how minor - that they could find on her. Only the male lead, David Brouwer, came forward to defend Janet, who made him promise not to tell Rosalyn so as not to disrupt Rosalyn's own success. However, over time Janet struggled with her self-esteem issues from the near-constant belittling from her co-workers, culminating in a stint of anorexia that caused her to faint just after the premiere of the film. Rosalyn immediately called for an ambulance, but Janet died in the hospital two days later.
Learning the truth from David after Janet was rushed to the hospital, a livid Rosalyn wasted no time exposing the others' mockery of Janet to any reporter who would listen, permanently scarring the actors' reputations in the film industry and in the mass media in general. Bonding with David over the experience, Rosalyn began dating him later in the month, and they have been going steady ever since.
More recently, though Rosalyn continues to maintain relative success as an actress, she began to feel homesick and wished to move back to Virtue Bay. She soon found her opportunity to do so when David convinced the director of her latest project - a sci-fi film - to film at least some parts in Virtue Bay.
Other Notes: Since Janet's tragic death, Rosalyn has made it a personal mission to be a role model against bullying, anorexia, and other low self-esteem issues, and is a very generous benefactor of charities and other causes aimed at combating these.

Name: Amanda "Mandy" Stevenson
Age: 18 (Almost 19)
Ranger Color: Black
Animal Symbol: Snake
Powers: Mandy is able to sense vibrations throughout the ground and the air in a hundred foot radius. However, this only works as long as she is in contact with the ground. She is also able to "see" the radiated heat of any warm-blooded creature. In other words, she has infrared sensing, like many different kinds of snakes. However, in order to see on that wavelength, she has to be completely focused and have no distractions around her...which is kinda tough since she has ADHD and all. Mandy is also EXTREMELY quick, not in that she's a fast runner, but her reflexes and striking speed are ALMOST unseeable to even the trained eyes of humans.

Non-Combat Talents: Mandy is an expert contortionist. She is also able to sing, play guitar, and play the piano really well, and she loves to perform in front of family and friends.

Spoiler: Appearance 

Personality: Mandy can be described in one word: hyper. She is so hyper to the point that she drives most people CRAZY! If this is because of her ADHD or if it's just her is a mystery. She is also a very curious individual who likes to know things. So, couple that with her innate hyperness, don’t be surprised if you get asked one hundred questions. Under the hyperactivity and curiosity though is a very loyal individual to whomever she trusts, and she is a very trusting person. Oh, and she is VERY naïve to the point that many men believe she was raised by nuns. She has an extreme hatred of gangs to the point that she has thought about ending them for good. Also, don't make Mandy angry. Just don't. You'll more than likely live longer. One last thing: Don’t give her chocolate. You will regret it. Oh, and about how she dresses. She isn't goth/emo so say, she just likes the style.
Short Bio: Mandy was born and raised in Virtue Bay, CA. When she was three years old, her father simply ran off, never to be heard from again. She has asked her mother what happened to her father, but she just shakes her head every time Mandy asks her and tells her she doesn't know, but Mandy just KNOWS that she knows more than she's letting on.

When she was eight, Mandy was enrolled into the Five Winds Academy. It was immediately shown that she had a gift, and soon she was taking multiple martial arts classes. One day when she was thirteen, she was walking home after her lessons when she witnessed a gang forming a circle around someone. Upon investigation, she saw her mother, covered in blood. She was still alive, and so, Mandy did what any daughter would do at that point. She took out more than half of that gang and got her mother to the hospital. Her mother soon made a full recovery, but Mandy stills harbors a hatred towards that gang, which has now led to a deep hatred towards ANY gang.
Other Notes: Mandy is an avid fan of anime, so don't be surprised if she makes a reference towards any of her favorite shows.

Personality: Patient and mature, but also very slow to trust others fully unless they have already proven themselves over time beforehand. He takes his inheritance very seriously, often too much so.
Short Bio: Growing up in Xi'an, China for most of his life, Zheng Wei took an interest in the martial arts from an early age, particularly encouraged by his grandfather, Shi Wei, who was himself a master of Northern Praying Mantis. Learning the style from Shi Wei during his childhood, Zheng Wei later took on a part time job as a computer technician to pay for college.
Shi Wei eventually died of lung cancer when Zheng Wei was 19, but in his last will and testament he left Zheng Wei with a set of priceless animal statues stated to be from the Sui Dynasty, along with a final letter detailing the history of the Order and instructing Zheng Wei to guard the statues in secret until their power would be needed against the Exiles once more. Initially skeptical of this story, Zheng Wei nonetheless researched the sites mentioned in Shi Wei's final letter and ultimately managed to confirm the existence of the Order at each site. At age 22, Zheng Wei stumbled upon a shipment of grenades being imported from Romulus Arms in America, discovering traces of the Exiles' emblem written in ink on one of the labels. Realizing the presence of the Exiles in America, Zheng Wei immigrated to Virtue Bay - the city of the address written on the label - and set up a martial arts academy in the city, naming it the Five Winds Academy after the original Order.

Personality: A professional through and through, Detective Alston has a very low BS tolerance and a healthy degree of skepticism born from ten years of experience with the LAPD. She makes a point to see every case through to the end, no matter what the risk may be.
Short Bio: A native of Virtue Bay originally, Kelly was born and raised at her family's vineyard. However, as much as she enjoyed her peaceful, steady upbringing, Kelly longed for more excitement than the small town could provide, and after receiving her bachelor's degree in criminal justice, she left for Los Angeles to train at the LAPD academy, ultimately serving there for ten years before she recently to feel homesick. Her request for a transfer to the Virtue Bay police was accepted less than a month ago, and for the time being she had felt comfortable with settling back into a normal routine, until happening upon her newest case involving a bizarre massacre at a local martial arts school. At the moment, she knows nothing of the even more unusual circumstances behind the attack.
Other Notes: Kelly's new partner, Paul Molina, has been with the Virtue Bay Police for approximately eight years and has a better grasp of the present-day Virtue Bay than Kelly, but otherwise he lacks the extensive experience of working in the big city.

Spoiler: Joseph Shea (Adoptable) 

A survivor and businessman above all else, Mr. Shea learned very quickly to stop caring about what course of action he takes in order to ensure his own well-being and that of his family. This attitude helped him to ascend the ranks at Romulus Arms, ultimately taking over as CEO of the corporation. Romulus Arms, which originally only designed weapons for the military's exclusive use, has been known as of late to sell their products to other less-than-savory characters while under Joseph's management, and he has since learned to look the other way to avoid crossing his less scrupulous clients. More recently he stumbled upon the Exiles and their plans by accident, and made a bargain with them to protect himself from their wrath; in return for sparing Joseph and his family from their conquest, the Exiles now enjoy free reign of Romulus Arms and all of its resources. But despite this agreement, Joseph has come to realize that his usefulness to the Exiles will not last forever, and is secretly seeking a means to get out of their partnership.

Powers: Dàyè is a very strong Psychic. His mind is a lethal weapon that he uses quite effectively to either read others minds, control them, or cause pain. He is able to use the energy derived from the mind known as Psionic Energy. This energy can cause mental and physical damage to Dàyè’s victims. Apart from his mind being a weapon, he has enhanced speed, reflexes, strength, agility, and endurance. His senses are also enhanced and his fighting skills are masterful to say the least.

Personality: If there was a darker term for evil, it would be Dàyè. His presence commands the shadows to obey and the spines of his enemies to shiver with fear. He is very calculative and tactical. He is very demanding and prefers not to get his hands dirty, but will do so if necessary. He looks down on others and speaks condescendingly. He is the epitome of evil, not caring for the well-being of others, not even his Generals. He wants to rule with an Iron Fist and he shall, as soon as he rids the world of the pesky Order. He is very deceitful and manipulative. He cares not for the feelings of others.
Short Bio: Some say he was born from the pure chaos that envelops the world, others say he is a spawn of Diablo himself, but Dàyè was once a member of the Order. He strived to convince them that the only way to gain peace was to enforce it. Sadly they disagreed with him, and when he rose up against them, they banished him. His fuming anger is the fuel behind his actions. He will have his revenge and rule the world with an Iron Fist. The deal with the owner of the Romulus Arms is merely a temporary thing, for once he has fulfilled his usefulness, the Emperor will destroy him.

Powers: Tattooed on her back and legs is a small dragon that she can summon at will, often to fight on her behalf or to act as her personal spy. In addition to that, she can heal herself by draining life force from others and can create various constructs from dark energy, which will corrode physical matter on contact.

Personality: Cunning and ruthless are the two best words to describe her, and she will not miss even a single moment to turn any given situation in her favor. She may flirt or toy with men if the need arises or simply if she gets bored, but in reality, the only man whom she has any respect for at all is Emperor Dàyè himself.
Short Bio: Feng Hua began her tale as one of several concubines to Emperor Yang of Sui, all destined to live out their days satisfying His Imperial Majesty whenever the Empress could not. It was not long before she tired of this life, pleasing the Emperor on his whim without any share in his power. One day, during a peasant revolt at the palace gates, Feng Hua took advantage of the confusion and fled the Emperor's harem, hiding out in the streets for a time. Refusing to resort to prostitution, Feng Hua instead took to pickpocketing on the streets, until one night she attempted to rob a monk of the Five Winds. The man easily fended her off, but nonetheless offered her shelter at a nearby camp of the Order, and out of curiosity she accepted.
Feng Hua initially came to accept the teachings of the Order and eventually joined their ranks as an initiate, living peacefully among them for a few months before discovering that she was pregnant, having conceived shortly before her escape from the palace.
Not long after this realization she was spotted by the Emperor who, thinking that the concubine's child was by another man, ordered his guards to arrest Feng Hua and terminate her baby. Monks from the Order intervened and saved Feng Hua, but were too late to prevent a miscarriage. Distraught, Feng Hua demanded her chance at revenge against the Emperor, but the Elders strongly refused to let her spill blood for blood, and it was this decision that would end Feng Hua's friendship with the Order as a whole. Later that night, one of their number - a man named Dàyè - offered to grant Feng Hua her chance in return for leaving the Order to join his band of Order renegades, to which she immediately agreed.
During her time among the Exiles, Feng Hua adopted the name Dragon Lady and began dabbling in the black arts for the first time. As a show of loyalty, she agreed to be tattooed along her back and legs with an image of a dragon; this tattoo was later bewitched to assume a corporeal form when summoned.
