Despite what many would believe from a glance at his military and private company experiences, young Abel did not have his eyes set on a military career, but rather sought to become a police officer in his hometown of Boston. He was raised in a lower-middle-class family, with two sisters and no brothers, but managed to head off to college to pursue his manly dreams. He attended Boston College, a medium-sized private college in Massachusetts, and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Something dramatic occurred during his final year at Boston College that led Abel to change his dreams and life forever: 9/11. Waves of patriotic volunteers, seeking to get back at the cowards that had attacked their country, enlisted in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. Abel was on of these patriots, but elected to remain in college until he had received his degree. In June, one week after graduating, Abel enlisted in the United States Army.
Almost immediately after completing training, Abel was shipped out with the rest of his company to Afghanistan. After the last organized remnants of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda were squashed, he was stationed in the Korengal Valley, one of the most dangerous portions of the country. After serving one tour there, Abel was eager to get away. He joined up with the Army Rangers, who welcomed his short, but combat-filled experience.
For three years, Abel was deployed, redeployed, and redeployed again, in both Afghanistan and, after 2003, Iraq. Abel’s time in the Rangers was quite beneficial, as it honed his already strong combat skills, and set the path for the rest of his career. After a major joint operation in Iraq in 2006, Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta, or Delta Force, made a formal request that Abel try out for membership in the elusive group. After an intensive selection course, Abel was admitted, and thus began a massive period of training, performing the same courses, the same room clearings, the same contact drills, immediate action drills, and shooting daily at the same ranges, for a period of almost two years. Delta was largely responsible for shaping and honing the skills of the killing machine that Abel has become.
After almost four years of service with SFOD, the CIA expressed interest in Abel. He was transferred to the Agency’s Special Activities Division, and began training for the Special Operations Group. Much of this training involved things that were new to him, such as undercover operations and stuff that resembled Hollywood “spying”, but much of it simply built on the skills that he had acquired serving in various special operations forces throughout his military time, like reconnaissance, combat, and how to work with “indigenous forces”. As is standard for all SAD operatives, Abel was trained in the operation of every commonly used weapon out there.
During his time with the CIA, Abel mostly found himself operating in South America, the Middle East, and Africa. However, after 2012, domestic terrorism began to rise, and the Central Intelligence Agency, despite being a group only authorized to operate on foreign soil, assigned numerous assets to various domestic operations, mostly in support of the FBI or ATF. While working for the CIA, Abel was lightly augmented with several social and mental enhancements, which aided in his domestic operations. By 2016, Abel had tired of fighting his own countrymen, and he left government work for the private sector.
The next few years were spent moving from one Private Military Company to another: DynCorp for under a year, then Academi (formerly known as Xe or Blackwater), and finally a smaller, novel company, Belltower Associates. The work with DynCorp didn’t last long, as Abel was given menial tasks akin to those of a security guard. He enjoyed the work at Academi, which was mostly training others in close-quarters battle techniques and receiving training himself in close-protection (body guarding). Sadly, the company went bankrupt in 2018, and Abel turned to the rising giant, Belltower. Working with Belltower was almost as great as Academi. Abel continued training Belltower operatives, just as he had done at Academi, and began working with Belltower as a close-protection specialist. Being a bodyguard for the wealthy clients of Belltower wasn’t as rewarding as fighting terrorists, but Abel welcomed the temporary respite.
And it was during his time with Belltower that Abel met his wife, Caitlyn. She was a secretary with Belltower Associates, at their headquarters that was, at that time, located in New York City. The two began dating and married roughly a year later. Unfortunately, their relationship was one that would end in tragedy. In late 2021, Caitlyn was diagnosed with a very serious form of cancer. The doctors tried everything, from surgeries to augmentations, but to no avail. In December of 2022, after only about three years of marriage, Caitlyn succumbed to her disease, and their relationship came to an end.
Beset with grief, Abel found that he could no longer remain with Belltower, as everything he saw reminded him of Caitlyn. He sent an application to Khan Industries, and was accepted into the company. Thanks to his many years of experience, Abel has various significant roles with KI, including providing close-protection for many different corporate executives and other VIPs, part-time CQB instructor at the Los Angeles Facility, and Associate Chief of Security for the Los Angeles Facility. He is now 43 years old, and mentally ravaged by war, loss, and conflict.
