    Default RPA's Top 100 Books

Hey look, another list. I think I'll make the next one, Top 100 Things to Change Housemaster's Name to.

So this kind of goes along with my other threads, RPA's Top 100 Musical Acts,
RPA's Top 100 Television Shows and RPA's Top 100 Video Games So what I would like, is for everyone to post their top 10 favourite books and I will compile the top 100 out of everything picked and edit it into this post, and attempt to keep a running tally. And before anyone asks, yes you can post a book that is the same as what someone else has posted. The more posts a book gets, the higher it will land on the list. And please remember to follow RPA rules and not insult the tastes of others no matter what you think of it.

Please post the author along with the book. In the case of trilogies and series, please do not post an entire series as one entry. Post the individual books, one book per entry. Gee, I'm extra incoherent right now. Basically, The Lord Of The Rings will count as three books as it was originally released as a trilogy

Note; in an effort to help round out the top 100 lists a little more, everyone may now post a top 20 instead of a top 10. For those who have already posted ten, you may post another ten

    So here's mine in no particular order;

1 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - JRR Tolkien
2 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - JRR Tolkien
3 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
4 The Sword of Shannarra - Terry Brooks
5 The Stand - Stephen King
6 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
    7 Cabal - Clive Barker
8 The Merchant of Venice - William Shakespeare
    9 Faerie Tale - Raymond E Feist
10 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

    THE TOP 100
(WIP; note that books with only one post are in the order which they were submitted))

1 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - JRR Tolkien(7)

I know, but I'm trying to avoid clogging the list with series and trilogies taking up a single slot. It's like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, to use one that you posted. There are five books in that trilogy(fans will get this), yet it is all the same story. However they are all separate books.

Also in the case of series, while all the books in a series may be related with an underlying story arc, they are all separate books with their own story.

It just makes sense to me to do it this way and keeps people form posting an entire series as one entry.

I think what defines a series is that they are separate books which are released on separate times.

Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King are more or less considered volumes, and were all released at the same time. If someone asks "I just read Harry Potter!" someone will most likely respond with "Yeah, which books?" But most people when they say "I've just read Lord of the Rings!", it's assumed they mean all three volumes.

PS: Most online "Top 100 books" lists I've found have listed "Lord of the Rings" as one book... however, I don't exactly care all that much, I think the message of "Lord of the Rings" being a fantastic book is already represented in the list.

PPS: Hitchhiker's Guide is the best trilogy of five!
