Eyes: Flaming remnants of a cursed soul live within his sockets.

Unusual Features: Stahl is nothing more than a soul bound to a skeleton and its former equipment, thus he appears substantially unusual in almost every aspect.

Powers:

Inhuman Endurance: With an ancient curse fueling his existence and a body independent of most physical limitation Stahl is able to sustain activities much longer than a normal person, even sustain a few more wounds.

The Phantom’s Warp: Stahl is able to disintegrate and reintegrate with some concentration, over short distances this power is nearly instantaneous, though after more than several meters there is a slight delay and much more concentration is needed.

Infernal Arrows: In addition to having an unlimited supply of arrows from his quiver they are all imbued with a flaming energy, and some can be made to explode slightly on impact.

Salamander’s Tongue: The fire inside Stahl’s chest is more like napalm, and he is able to spit it up. The buildup of this material is painful and constant, and eventually it needs to be released if it builds up for too long, it can also be released via injuries.

Abilities / Skills: As his equipment would suggest Stahl is an accomplished archer, fighter, and hunter. He is also a mover, able to get almost anywhere given enough time

Paraphernalia / Weapons: Stahl carries his bow, quiver, three knives, a hatchet, a bit of rope and any number of other small items from cherry bombs to lockpicks.

Origin: Resurrected by a powerful curse.

History: In 1289 a hunter from the city of Salisbury, identified only as Stahl, was sentenced to hang for the deaths of several entire families when he allegedly burned down several houses. Stahl, a modest man with quite a bit of skill, maintained his innocence until the noose snapped his neck. He actually was innocent but it was no matter to the citizens, a crime had been committed and someone had been punished, life went on.

That is, life went on for everybody except the lone survivor of the Conroy family, a young daughter named Elizabeth. She was orphaned, taken in by a young couple that soon discovered they did not like children. Her life was not unpleasant, but certainly not what she would have had if her family had not burned to the ground. She resented Stahl, resented the life she’d been forced into, and wanted the man who she believed to have done this to her to burn, to burn forever like he had burned her family. Elizabeth turned to witchcraft.

In time she was able to make her desires a reality, she cast a powerful curse that awoke the hunter from his long rest. Stahl awoke to find himself a skeleton, aflame in a pine box, 17 years after his death. Six feet of dirt and a few planks of wood are a formidable obstacle, but they could only delay Stahl’s return to the land of the living. It took three days, three days of digging, starving, suffocating, and burning for Stahl to reach the surface much to the dismay of a pair of grave robbers prowling the graveyard.

The pair was found the next day, burnt to a crisp, unrecognizable. Stahl went back to his old house to gather his things, his armor, his coat, his weapons. And each one he touched turned a burnt black and became charred, but would not burn upon his touch. His arrows even became fire, and upon dropping one it multiplied. He knew what he had to do, there was one purpose he had, one stipulation to the curse that had been applied. Elizabeth’s magic had inadvertently created a void in the underworld, a spot to be filled, and it was Stahl’s job to make sure it was filled.

Elizabeth knew this, moved frequently, tried to muddy the trail, and all the while Stahl followed behind, literally burning a trail across the countryside. For 13 years Stahl pursued his quarry and finally found her in London, where she was found pinned up to the door of a church with flaming arrows, disemboweled, and burnt to a crisp. Stahl was free, but could not rest. Elizabeth’s curse was still in effect, he would be forced to roam the world, seeking danger, but also unable to give up on his own survival.

Out of resentment for these mortals, who ad so far not managed to kill him, Stahl has become allied with the agents of the being they call the Darkness, perhaps it will end him eventually.

Gender: Male

Personality: Stahl is the vengeful spirit, hateful of the living for their treatment of him. He is grim, due to his situation, and he is also confident, perhaps overly so.

Description: Stahl stands an average 5’10” with what appears to be a decidedly average build under his coat and armor. The truth is much more shocking as he is nothing more than a skeleton filled with a napalm like substance. His clothes cover most of this though, a large leather trenchcoat like cloak with a hood over scaled leather armor along with heavy hobnail boots and a pair of gloves with the fingers mostly worn away from use. The coat is covered with spikes, chains, and other paraphernalia, including a single section of plate armor on the right shoulder. His face is that of a skull, flames burning in the eye sockets. On a bad day flames leak from different parts of him, most noticeably from his face and hands.
