[ Information Foreground ]
Hayward’s physical appearance represents him as more of an adult than how he should look for his age. His amber colored eyes reflect an image of a traveler who has experienced many things, his body is slightly worn but in exceptionally fit shape due to constant training each morning. He has dark brown hair that complements his lightly tanned skin and eyes. He stands at a perfect six feet in height, and weighs one hundred and seventy two pounds.
Hayward’s sense of style is based around his hometown and several lands he has visited. Though his usual attire is rather simple, he overdresses in the case of emergency such as climate change or if an article of clothing is ripped, he has one or two layers. His clothing is often reminiscent to fur lined clothing as well as animal print clothes and sleeveless shirts. He rarely wears shorts, but will wear them in hotter summer days, or for swimming. A more casual style is often simple with basic t-shirts, a pair of jeans or slacks or yacht pants, and generic sneakers, loafers, or leather boots.

Personality/ Character Description
Born into a life of poverty, working hard to make ends meet was a challenge for Hayward as a young boy. He was forced to mature at a faster rate than most of his classmates, and often got into fights for seemingly looking too cool or emotionally distant. Seen almost as a problem child, Hayward falls victim to the effects of circumstance as compared to Murphy’s Law. His motivation to support his family and to become successful allowed him to learn and become a mature adolescent who became independent, emotionally stable, a critical thinker, and a mathematician in specific aspects such as in reading trends and patterns. He was rather rough around the edges as a teenager and a brat when he was a preteen; however, having gotten his priorities straightened, Hayward is a man with strong morals, a clear thinking head, and wise for his young age. He has learned many things throughout his travels and knows how to maintain his expenses as well as is known for being a diligent worker. His bright ideas could one day help him to become an innovator of a newer better world, however, he follows a simple life and the beliefs of being simple in nature. Going with the flow and taking each day at a time, he wastes no time with being too lazy, and is proactive but not excessive.
Hayward is a man who is easy to get along with, respectful, but demands respect in return. He is not a man who lies or abuses any system to his advantage and holds some values for karma. He looks down on people who cannot overcome difficulties he knows are conquerable, and will not hesitate to lend a hand to help others. Though he is well suited for taking the lead as a commanding figure, he also feels comfortable holding the coat tails of a leader in order to learn more in their respects to better himself.
Hayward may appear shameless, however, he does hold strong to his primary principles of authority, respect, pride, and courage. He does not take kindly to insults, but ignores them to avoid needless argument. A charismatic well rounded person overall, he considers himself a student of life’s lessons, and is an active scholar with the need to learn more.
The deeds that Hayward exhibits throughout the towns and cities he has visited complement his personal reputation as that of a powerful, but wise man. He is seen as a friend by many, and also a rival and enemy to those he has had to battle in order to fulfill contracts he has been assigned to. It goes without saying that if Hayward were to find himself in a bind, he could depend on the help of plenty of people to resolve an issue.
Jed: An antiques enthusiast, retired archaeologist, and part-time Geology instructor. He assists Hayward and Katharine to escape Washington, D.C. in order to evade the Secret Service from capturing them.
Katharine Elizabeth Florence: the daughter of Senator Florence. She was rescued three times by Hayward, is seen as a criminal for the theft of the Uroboros Rune, and seen as a national threat for its theft. She has been posted in the Most Wanted website to advise any and all U.S. citizens.

Mortal Enemies / Rivals
Longinus [Short Spear]: A short spear worn on Hayward’s back. The blade is often crafted, replaced, or reinforced with carbon steel, the strongest alloy metal used in the current era. Its high price for reinforcement and tempering is well worth the cost for its durability and its resistance to shatter. The steel is very difficult to scratch and wear out, allowing for prolonged use of the weapon in any battle given realistic scenarios. The spear measures at six feet in full length including the bladed tip [1 foot]. The pole arm is crafted from ebony wood, and is polished to create a shiny surface.
Himlir [Middle Sword]: A middle sword [Gladius] carried around Hayward’s lower back. The blade is made of carbon steel, resembles a simple sword with no extravagant features complete with a hilt, leather wrapped handle, and lightweight. The sword is used mainly as a secondary weapon when his Longinus is either dropped, or rendered ineffective in a shorter ranged match. Himlir does not require daily sharpening, which allows for Hayward to fight longer without piling considerable damage to his weapons stability.
Titanium Steel Shoulder Guard – a left arm shoulder guard made of titanium. Reinforces the left side of the body from receiving slashes and dampens the shock of most weapons’ force applied to that region of the body. It protects the shoulder and half of the upper arm.
Cuirass – a leather cuirass with two reinforced plates of carbon steel inside the leather to protect the heart region and back. The cuirass is worn inside of Hayward’s clothes but over his undershirts.
Hemp Bracelet: a simple olive green dyed hemp bracelet knotted together.
Item Bag: a simple leather pouch which will hold medicinal herbs, powders, and basic first aid
Belt/Sash: a leather belt around his chest to hold his middle sword in place on his right side. The sash is worn around his waist to hold his garments together, and to hold his item bag.
Skills, Talents, and Abilities
Remuneration [Lionheart Rune]: Attaining Lionheart, came with specific “labors” that the bearer must abide by in exchange for using its power. The rune provides power, in exchange for a learned habit that it places on the bearer upon using too much of its power at once. This is considered a punishment to several rune bearers, while others enjoy their remunerations.
First Labor [Lionheart Rune]: The primary and unavoidable Labor that Hayward must follow, is the act of carving wood into whatever shape first comes to mind at the moment of starting his woodwork. Hayward will often be seen, buying large quantities of different types of wood to carve figures due to his Primary Labor. If the labor is skipped or is not satisfied within two hours apart from having used his powers, Hayward suffers internal physical pain, and can become as severe as splitting headaches or as painful as being burned or breaking a bone. The pain will subside on a random time interval or until the labor is satisfied.
Second Labor [Lionheart Rune]: The second labor Hayward must follow is to guard the Uroboros Rune with his life. The runes are paired together, thus creating a relationship in runic remuneration between both bearers. This labor will only trigger when the bearer of the Uroboros Rune is in danger.
Above Average Strength [Lionheart Rune]: A powerful skill inherited by possessing a rune. The Lionheart rune passes on incredible amounts of strength to help the bearer compensate for his weak human frame, to deliver more power physically and with a weapon.
Sonic Speed [Lionheart Rune]: Given the ability to run faster than any normal human, his fluid and agile movements allow for Hayward to remain a constant threat during battle if he is to fight against non-human enemies.
Immortality [Lionheart Rune]: An unspoken mystery behind the origin of the rune he bears, allows him to live for a prolonged number of years well past an ordinary human life span. Although Hayward can still be maimed, injured, or killed, this form of immortality is measured in the loss of time moving forward toward his body. Aging is decreased dramatically, and often can result in driving the rune bearer crazy for becoming ‘immortal.’
Survival: A combination of several learned and unlearned skills put together in order to create one single term. The tier of skills within this category consists of: tactics/foresight/clairvoyance, improvisation, cooking, horticulture, mathematics, physics, biology, psychology, scouting/reconnaissance, lip reading, sign language, code speech, computer science, and martial arts. Taking several years to master this skill, it is one which is constantly expanding and is improved upon. This skill is what gives Hayward an edge of experience towards others in terms of being resourceful to survive in most harsh living conditions outside of a comfort zone or to survive during battle by taking the most correct course of action.
Master Swordsman: a latent talent and skill mastered throughout twenty years of practice, training, and painstaking commitment. Hayward is renowned for his ability to wield a sword masterfully after its basic use and needs have well become a memory of the past in the present world.
Master Spearman: a learned and mastered skill of using a short spear during combat for mainly protection and defense and offensive use as a counter. While swords and spears have since become obsolete in present era, the way of life using such weapons has been taught to Hayward since he was ten years of age. Obedience and patience were vital in learning to master such weapons.
Techniques / Arts
[In present era, techniques and arts are no longer known by name or shouted during battle. All fighting is now just mere use of constant motion and linking attacks together to attack, repel, counter, and parry oncoming opponents.]
[ Information Background ]
Hailed by several larger cities throughout the United States, the mercenary Hayward Laslow had become well known for being a primary source for individual protection especially during ground travel. A late twenties male with rough features and a stoic attitude, many see him as the steel wall of protection for many who cannot protect themselves from loan sharks, gangsters, mobs, and even the government. Versed in several forms of defense varying from swords, throwing knives and even pole-arms, to hand to hand combat, Hayward boasts a very large arsenal of personal defense and offense in battle. His efforts have thus expanded towards neighboring cities and smaller towns and many of his prior clients have done well to accommodate him when he arrives at a familiar town or city. A certain predicament occurred several months before the start of his current location in which a specific person of interest came into his guardianship. Giving up his reputation in order to save one innocent life, he has become tangled with her in a web of a series of events that have unfolded in unfavorable terms for them both. The origin of this girl being a daughter of a superior senator in the government, the two discovered an ancient power known as a Rune. Events unfolded in which they were both chosen to bear particular runes the government fears may bring calamity to their home land; they dispatched assassins to clean up the mess. However, Hayward overcame these obstacles, prevailed against uncertain odds, and escaped with the girl. Being on the run, they are wanted fugitives now, roaming the states for a safe place to hide and gather a sense of purpose. Six months have passed since the two strangers have met, and have since formed a strong bond of friendship with one another.
Hayward struggled to become a father figure for this teenage girl, while she struggled to acclimate to new surroundings, new living conditions, and to start becoming responsible for her actions. While both have delved into a world of danger, they rely on one another to provide safety and security while living in seclusion in order to escape detection. Hayward and Katharine’s story begins when they arrive in a small town outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vincent Longfellow is what you would call a handsome but flawed individual. Although he appears to look like an ordinary pompous gentleman, he exudes far more foul bits of speech than he should, giving him a ruffian edge. His dark brown hair shoulder length and curls at the ends. His hairstyle is complete with longer sideburns below his short ears. His cheeks are smooth and slightly blush, lavish green eyes encompass the tempest of his wild ideals, and his nose is thin and round at the tip. His teeth are almost bleach white, surprisingly untouched by plaque or disease.
Known for being a stern individual and cold, his eyebrows are often clenched together in a serious manner, occasionally raised in utter surprise or for light conversation. His voice is deep but gently inviting; a cross between a baritone and a bass with a tinge of mockery escaping his lips when he speaks. Although he appears vain, the five foot eight tall gentleman walks with a light and careful stride with his eyes picking apart every bit of detail around him. Often he will smile to present a boyish grin or youthful resemblance, however, that itself is quite the rarity in his travels. He dresses appropriately and can be found wearing mostly all designer wear of the times, including his accessories for special events such as balls and parties he is often invited to.
Vincent is keen on detail, and thus he usually does not miss a wrinkle or blemish on any of his clothes. He wears tall collared jackets, sports coats, riding coats (all tailcoats), and white double breasted waistcoats. He fancies not wearing any forms of neckties such as cravats but will dress accordingly in order to present himself well. He often wears leather turned down cuffed jockey boots, and ordinary leather boots for long trips on foot. Vincent presents himself often wearing a longer over coat of black velvet material, long dark grey trousers (sometimes leather breeches with ties and buttons at the knee), and leather jockey boots. He often wears button up plain long sleeve cuffed up shirts, and replaces his necktie for a scarf. A fashionable man, he wears these fashions in this manner to gain the approval of the people around him and to fit in, as he is an emissary. In his private time, he often wears trousers, a long sleeved collared shirt and a coat as well as leather boots.
Vincent is a man of careful words, and is often mistaken for his sarcasm and mockery for compliments. He is very cautious and often keeps orderly details of his surroundings. He is an astute follower of the way of fencing and swordsmanship, and does not look happily towards firearms. Although he carries a very valuable piece himself, he does not ordinarily prefer to fire fight if he can help it. Vincent can be nice when he tries, however he prefers to be a lone wolf and often finds himself being rude to his own companions. He is easily annoyed with specific things and people, and can be short-tempered at times. Overall, Vincent is still young and is open to learn more about interacting with people. He is not a very trusting person at first and will take time to gain his trust. He also holds strong ideals and has his own agenda which he will sometimes hint at indirectly.
Flerniell [Custom Saber] – Flerniell is a standard fencing saber for dueling and is effecting with swings more than thrusts. Although not as thin as a rapier, it is lightweight and carries a similar guard around the hilt of the saber to protect the hand from opposing cuts and jabs. Vincent prefers this weapon over firearms, and has also had this weapon customized to fit his likings with an elegant band of gold design around the hilt, and the guard. An engraving in gold cursive letters is carved into the silver blade with the phrase, “~Honor and Justice, I do hereby swear on. Fell my enemies with this instrument of Justice~ ”
The Jackal [Flintlock Custom] - The Jackal is a custom-made Austrian flintlock with knife insert and is made with a golden finish. It comes complete with gold mounts, silver wire inlays, carved stock and a relief carved and engraved barrel. The barrel has a carved relief of a firebird and includes an engraved golden band around the muzzle end of the barrel. The lock plate is engraved with the phrase, “To the Heavens,” and can be used as a dueling pistol.

Adolescence & Early Adulthood
Deciding to make a name for himself, Vincent was christened a new name, and was taken in by the Ferdinand’s of Austria. Although just becoming an Empire, Vincent had spent a few years earlier fighting within the war to help make the empire a success. After being wounded in battle for saving the life of a relative to the Ferdinand’s, he was invited an audience in which he preached to the royal family of [some] of his ideals for a greater future. Intrigued by his plans, they temporarily granted him assistance at his age of 18. He became Sir Vincent of Austria and led a small company of new army recruits to hold off bordering armies and bandits from creating trouble in Austria’s borders. In a daring battle against bandits and armed civilians that began to escalate into a civil riot within the lands of Glädsheim to the north of Austria, Vincent lead his troops as well as the Glädsheim’s forces into a single unit to destroy the opposition. Being opposed to fighting, he solved the matters with little violence and restored peace within the borderland of Glädsheim and claimed it as part of Austria. The independent nation was given to Vincent as the new ruler of Glädsheim and after being Knighted by the Emperor of Austria, was given the title of Baron. He became the Baron of Glädsheim and has diligently worked to become a responsible and effective ruler. However, this was not his intention and has decided to take some time in order to fully develop his plans and set them into motion.
Albeit manipulating Austria for his own benefit, the Emperor saw this as a way to keep an eye on him, as well as to establish a form of pre-alliance with a man who will be “destined for great things” as he put it. With this acknowledgement, Vincent spends his time developing the lands he now reigns over as well as extends his friendships to Britain and the lands surrounding Austria. His achievement of nobility is but a form of entrance to new resources and powerful allies to manipulate in the later future.
Events leading up to the present
After having rediscovered the location of his younger sister, he immediately wished for her visit to stay with him at his new home in Austria. Accepting the offer, his sister moved into his estate. Having no other leads to currently move on with his plans, he attends several balls, masquerades, dinner parties, and royal functions with his lovely sister as his partner. Upon receiving a new request for a masquerade, he bids a short goodbye to his sister as she resumes her studies at home with a tutor and music instructor. He sends a telegram of his approval to the royal family to represent them at the Ryers ball, and immediately sets off to England by horseback and carriage.
