    Default Elements || OOC

In this small part of the massive world are various cities and towns all living along a circle that surrounds the Forbidden Forest, a place none of the villagers dare to enter; the forest is rumored to hold the ghastliest of creatures. Luckily there are those known as Elementals, children bestowed with the gift of elemental powers from the gods. Now, they don't gain all powers over every element, but merely the chance to master one. These people have become known as the bravest warriors and the best of healers; their powers used for the greater good. However, in light there is always darkness and when there are heroes a greater evil must be lurking in these shadows.

The once prosperous area is now slowly falling to the dark forces at hand and unseen evils only the gods can lay eyes on. A rumor spreads throughout the land that the goddess shall be choosing "chosen children" for each element to represent her in the fight by being granted the opportunity to gain secret abilities concerning their birth-given powers; people insist it was said in an ancient prophecy, but their sources cannot be proven.

Now, where does this leave you? Who are you? What are you? What shall be occurring in this specific RP?
Well, this means you must choose who you shall be, what element your character was born with, and choose your path to see where in lies your character's destiny.
Proceed if you're interested. Leave if you aren't. The choice is yours.

All RPA site rules apply here as well; if you don't know them then become acquainted with them.

All profiles must be posted in this thread, unless they pertain to a rare element; all rare elements are PMed to me. If you are seeking RP guidance then do not choose a rare elements; rare elements are reserved for those who are experienced. (In fact, I rather only myself and Mozaic play them)

Do NOT post in the IC topic until you are accepted by one of the hosts (myself or Mozaic).

No one is required to be a human, but be reasonable; I will not accept angels.

Only one character per player, unless you PM Mozaic or me and receive permission.

You are not required to play as an elemental; if you play as a non-elemental then put "none" as your element.

Do not choose your character's place of residency based on what other people chose. So, if you want to be a fire elemental and someone else is already playing one who lives Lilia, then you do not have to place yours in Lilia. Elementals are not exactly consistent in origin.

Godmoding, powerplaying, etc. are all no-noes and will not be tolerated. The only extremely powerful characters allowed are played by myself or Mozaic and are only used to push the plot along.

In the proper area of your character sheet you must state whether you are here seeking guidance or here merely to be in the roleplay. If you are here for the RP, then you MUST be literate and I am expecting far more in your posts than those seeking guidance.

All players are required to post at least two solid paragraphs per post, whether you are seeking guidance or not. For new players, this is to give you a general standard (and possibly a challenge, depending on how much guidance you need), and for the other players it should be no problem. No one is exempted from this rule.

This RP is rated PG13, why? Because it is not located in the Mature section. I do not want to see any posts exceeding over this rating.

Players who are not seeking guidance... you are NOT allowed to reprimand those who are seeking guidance. I do not want to see players making fun of others for any reason; this will discourage new members from getting better. You are allowed to make suggestions, yes, but it is better to leave that to those listed in the Mentors section.

Mentors will, preferably, PM those who seek guidance, though they are allowed to post critiques, give helpful directions, etc. in the OOC, but nothing of that nature may be posted in the IC. The PM system is preferable because it ensures privacy, though all players seeking guidance are aware people will be mentoring them, so posting in the OOC is fine too. However, posting in the IC just interrupts the RP.

RU AND MOZAIC RUN THIS RP. This means whatever we say goes and you are required to be approved by us. We're pretty cool peeps, though. So don't worry your heads off.

If you read these rules be sure to post, "Go Eat a Turnip," somewhere in your post (whether it is before you character sheet, at the end, or in a random post (though do not put it in the actual character sheet)).

This is not a one person per element RP, so there can be two fire elementals, etc. However, once the Goddess chooses elementals ((which will be controlled by me)) there will only be one element per chosen area.

Only FIVE people per element; once that cap is reached no more will be accepted of that element to prevent overflow of an element. Mind you, this cap DOES include Mentors, but does NOT include the baddies.

The character sheet MUST be filled out WITH the coding provided. DO NOT EDIT THE CODING. ONLY take out the explanations provided and put in the information on your character. Character sheets disobeying this rule will be overlooked until the coding is fixed.

Some elements have branches off a main element; a true master would know them all.
Think of them as levels, for the ones with branches. First one listed would be what a novice would know, etc. If they say "rare" then you have to either be chosen by the goddess or highly trained and it's highly unlikely I'm going to accept the second option.

An elemental is not a genetic trait and scholars are still unaware of their exact origin or how one gets the trait. However, some do attempt to disprove the theory it is not genetic by presenting DNA of elemental families showing similarities, but even there it is unlikely the family derives of the same element. Contrary to these scholars' belief there are elemental children who appear as first generation elementals in their bloodline with no ancestry expressing any form of an element prior to their birth. They have proven, however, that if a mother is an elemental and a father is an elemental then it is highly likely their children will also be elementals, though it is not always true.

    Fire
Fireballs, flame arrows, and more can be created by a fire elemental, but a heat source is required to use their powers. In a ice cold environment a fire elemental will be highly unlikely to use fire, thus many fire elementals are known to carry around matches, lighters, and other means of fire creation because they can warp the fire to do their bidding. However, without a fire source they are helpless.

This does mean they can use their body heat to create fire, so the hotter the elemental the more powerful the fire. A need to be hot is the exact reason why it is almost impossible to create a flame in a realm of ice because their body would be too cold. Many fire elementals are found roaming hot climates for this exact reason.

More experienced fire elementals can create a much stronger flame even in colder environments, but only because of their vast training which helps them focus their mind on what little heat there is to use in such a dire circumstance.

Characters with this Element: Alisa Galengo and Azkharad.

    Electric
Lightning, power surges, and more can be created by an electric elemental. There are rumors electric elementals derived from fire elementals, but there is no factual evidence of any links between them. Many jumped to this conclusion because when electricity hits certain surfaces it causes a spark similar to fire and may even cause a flame to ignite, but it has nothing to do with fire abilities.

What especially becomes contradictory to the hearsay is when scholars address what is needed for an electric elemental to create lightning. You see, enough cold is required for lightning to appear in a storm and a similar method is used by electric elementals for the same effect. While they do not need it to be absolutely freezing, an electric elemental performing a lightning technique will fair better in a colder environment and make weak sparks in a hot environment. This is specifically for that technique.

Usually electric elementals are seen in cities because of the enormous quantities of power lines roaming throughout them filled with the power they need. So long as electricity is nearby this kind of elemental can use their abilities, which is also why many carry around electronic devices.

A well-trained electric elemental can utilize the electric life source of the soul, though no one is entirely sure if this is a rumor or not due to a lack of study in the subject.

Character with this Element: Rivus Fulgur, Cadence Nymah Blanche, Raina Niteo, and Nova Coyne.

    Water
    (Water, Ice, Blood (very rare))
Squirt gun, waterfalls, and more can be created by a water elemental. An experienced one can turn their water into ice and some can even control blood itself, but it is highly rare and frowned upon by all societies. Water elementals also required some form of their element to be nearby, whether this means they extract water from plants, their own blood, or from a water bottle; they cannot form water from nothing. A highly trained water elemental can extract water from air, but emphasis lays on "highly trained."

Water is one of the few elements that have the ability to heal, but it is very limited in its healing capabilities. It can be used to cleanse, though it cannot fully heal a wound. So, if skin is missing then the body will still need to scab over and if someone breaks a bone a water elemental is little to no help. However, if someone is sicks and it pertains to their bloodstream a well-trained water elemental can extract the germs harming the body, which also includes if there was some unwanted fluids in an organ they can remove it. Water elementals can also extract liquid-based poisons from someone's body.

The stages of a water elemental start off with training in water, then they eventually move on towards ice. For ice they need a vast amount of concentration otherwise it's likely they will fail to turn the water into ice. Then comes blood techniques, which are rarely ever taught because of how dangerous and powerful it can become. A blood elemental can manipulate the body of a living creature to do their whim, causing it to lose its freewill. The only blood elementals who are accepted are those who use their abilities to help cure diseases; their rarity shows how seldom it is a blood elemental wants to follow this path.

It is not uncommon to see an ice elemental scurry around with no knowledge of their base water element, usually due to the climate they are located or special circumstances, though they are less common than a water elemental who is trained in ice. Usually those living in a cold climate know of their ice control, but are unaware of water. This also means history shows blood elementals have been seen without background knowledge in a similar fashion, but are highly rare and usually stem from extremely abusive households.

Characters with this Element: Lunis D'Zviera, Ajek Glacius, and Arabella.

    Earth
    (Grass (Plants, etc.), Metal)
Moving boulders, manipulating plants, and more can be done by an earth elemental. How they start off varies on their training. Some are trained mostly on how to control or manipulate plants while others have their focus primarily on dirt and boulders. Techniques vastly vary for earth elementals because of it.

The only actual sub-category of earth is metal, which is a skill that must be practiced frequently to get it right and much easier to master if the earth elemental started their training with dirt rather than plants. They are taught how to focus in on the metal elements of the object to allow them to move them, manipulate them, or whatever technique it is they choose to use. It takes a lot of concentration, especially if the object obtains barely any metals.

Characters with this Element: Anurak Gridnev and Little Tree.

    Air
    (Flying, Gas (rare))
Flying, whirlwinds, and more can be done by an air elemental. Most commonly are those who are seen flying around rather than those attempting to learn combat skills.

Air elementals can obtain the second rarest technique known to air elementals, which is gas manipulation. When highly trained they can change a gas into whatever different type of gas they want. This means an air elemental could change oxygen into hydrogen if they were trained with gas and wanted to. The technique is hard to learn and most don't bother with it, because they do not see how it's beneficial.

Characters with this Element: Crim Osman.

    Light
Blinding eyes, lighting rooms, and more can be done by a light elemental. They can manipulate the light sources around them to do their bidding and are at a loss when light is absent from their surroundings.

Some light elementals can perform minor healing spells, though no one is quite sure why. Some scholars speculate it is because they are a descendant of the Holy Elementals, who have an innate ability to heal even without proper training. Sadly, this has not been proven.

They are more powerful during the daytime.

Characters with this Element: Arthur Cornelious.

    Dark
Shadow puppets, easy stealth, and more can be done by a dark elemental. Some sort of darkness is required for a dark elemental to perform their techniques, but, luckily, darkness is easily acquired, whether it means manipulating their own shadow or those of the people around them. They are weakened if the area is too bright, though such a circumstance is rare and only known to be created by light elementals.

Dark elementals are more powerful during the nighttime due to the vast amount of shadows around them, though they have a hard time controlling any of them if there is no light present. This is because light creates a higher contrasted shadow, which is easier to manipulate than one with no distinction. Without being able to fully tell what is being created in a pitch black area the dark elemental has a hard time focusing let alone controlling whatever it is they have created. Because of this most dark elementals try to avoid pitch black areas to better use their skills.

They also can do minor healing spells similar to a light elemental and scholars, again, speculate the same reason. In fact, some believe a dark elemental and a light elemental combined may make a Holy Elemental, but no one is certain and any experiments requested to do so have been denied. Even so, dark elementals are usually not taught they can heal minor wounds, thus it is rarely done by them.

Characters with this Element: Aubrey Sutton, Revion, and Staccato Fortissimo Dynamics.

    Psychic
Telepathy, telekinesis, and more can be done by a psychic elemental. Their limitation is only their mind's willpower. This makes them sound very powerful, but performing psychic tasks drains the elemental substantially if they are not a master of the element. Many psychic elements do all they can to keep their brains in tip top shape for that reason, whether they solve riddles, play puzzles, or ensure they get a good night's rest to wake up with a refreshed, well-rested brain.

Typically psychic elements are trained specifically in one area of their element because it takes so much out of the individual to do too many tasks at once. The most common abilities seen by psychics are telepathy and telekinesis, varying from person to person. With telepathy they can read the minds of other people as well as project their own thoughts onto them, unless the individual is trained to block off such powers. Then with telekinesis they have the ability to move solid objects at a whim, but their amount of training effects how much weight they can throw around.

This isn't to say there aren't psychic elementals who are trained in various techniques, they do exist, but it is to emphasize how strenuous such abilities are on a psychic elemental.

Characters with this Element: Kyoko Skai, Uriel Parasca, and Lucian Drakkon.

    The Holy Elemental
The only holy elemental in existence shall be played by me to prevent others from godmoding since holy is the most powerful element. The holy elemental is the only elemental with the power to stop other attacks not only as a shield but makes them completely disappear, thus making the perfect guardian. They also have healing powers, though their combat value is unknown; the few holy elementals to ever exist were very weak or untrained so their true potential could not be seen.

    School of Ru
This is a group on RPA created by Ru to help guide RPers, whether brand new or experienced. It has tutorials/guidelines within the group as well as a critique section where you can get direct critiques from Ru herself. You may also feel free to suggest areas not addressed so Ru can make the group even better.

    The Mary-Sue Quiz
This is a test you can use to see if your character is a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, which are highly frowned upon in RP land. The test is better explained in the link, but it is fantastic and highly useful!

    Photobucket
This site is highly useful to find anime photos for when you come across a RP (such as this one) which requests anime photos to be used. When searching make sure you put "anime" in the search engine. So, if you are looking for a blond male you might put, "anime blond boy," or "anime blond guy," etc. Try to make sure you are NOT using mainstream anime photos, because most GMs won't take them. (Example, don't use a photo of Naruto)

    DeviantART
This site can be very helpful if you are seeking "real photos," AKA photography, though it can help with anime as well. However, make sure the picture used does NOT say, "Cannot be used," etc. because that is disrespecting the artist. Also, do not claim the photo is yours.

    Siksta's Guide to RPA
Though this isn't RP related, per say, this is a very helpful guide to those just starting out on RPA! Siksta gives very good advice how to go about starting your new life on RPA, so, if you are brand spankin' new, try going here to get the swing of things.

    The Elements RPA Group
Elements now has a group on RPA! For those of you who fall behind in the OOC chatter this is the ideal place for you, because all updates, etc. will be posted here.

All submitted characters are listed here. R means Ru needs to approve; M means Mozaic needs to approve; RM means both of us need to approve; and A means approved.
If you see UC this means Under Construction, implying there is something about your sheet which needs to be fixed. This will also be seen if one of the hosts has critiqued your sheet and is awaiting on you to improve it.

So, to better understand this, this is the letters people will go through:
    RM --> UC --> M --> A

This is because Ru is usually the one giving feedback to the sheets while Mozaic is confirming they are accurate, so it is unlikely a R will be seen on its own. UC will not be changed to M until the character sheet is completely edited to the expectations given in the critique received.

    Characters are listed as such:
Status Letter || Name of Character (as a link to sheet), Element, Birthplace/Place of Residence; played by Creator of the Character.

Status Letters are RM, R, M, UC, and A.

This looks really awesome! I have never rped with Ru before. I hope I'm accepted! I can't decide if I want to play my hyper 'loves everything' character or my morose sarcastic one that hates people. I'm thinking hyper. I have an original pic of her too! Made by Acidic Cereal of Gaia online when I used to rp there.

Ru, what exactly does Psychic pertain? Is it mind reading and telekinesis? Or does it go more broad into things like reality editing and teleportation?

Also, go eat a turnip or something.
The thrill in playing a game does not come from our chances of winning. It is the weight and pressure of losing that fuels our fascination. It is why people challenge, why they gamble and why they compete. The adrenaline that comes from defying defeat is what motivates us.

    Just Roleplaying
    Name: May Williams
    Age: Twenty
    Gender: Female
    Race: Human
    Element: Non-elemental
    City: Akelea
Personality: May always looks on the bright side and is very excitable and fun-loving. She can be a prankster and enjoys a good (and often very loud) laugh. That being said, her etiquette is not the best. But, she is nice to everyone... if not a bit too nice. Others may find her constant cheerfulness and boundless energy annoying and childlike, telling her often to 'grow up'. She is loyal to the people she loves and often a bit clingy, metaphorically and literally. Her nickname is 'Monkey' due to that. Children relate to her well and she often has a little following of them around town vying for her attention. Often she is cast in the role of baby sitter.

May is very emotional and can act childish when disputes or disagreeable situations arise, often resulting in a sort of tantrum. She can be nosy-- correction-- she IS nosy. She has a vivid imagination and enjoys imitating people or playfully mocking them, using as many venues as possible to get attention, especially with all of those 'elementals' showing up and doing all kinds of things-- good or bad.

Appearance: She is five feet and five inches tall, weighing in at a whopping one hundred and fifteen pounds with a bosom nearly flat as a board.
    Spoiler:

Special Talents: Acrobatics, martial arts, stealth, cartography, sketching, getting into random trouble...
Habits: She usually ends up doing something weird when she is bored. Things like walking on her hands (a favorite) or making noises. She also has a habit of darting off to see something if she finds it exciting, forever curious as to what might lie ahead.

History: May was born in Curecia to her parents Namida and Thomas. Her life was complicated from the start. Namida was from a local tribe and engaged to a man within the tribe when she had an affair with Thomas Williams, a traveler. She went into hiding until May was born and left her with Thomas, returning to her tribe to marry the man everyone intended her to while Thomas went back to Akelea. It had been a fleeting romance that ended in complication and neither has seen the other since May was born.

May was told that her mother died while giving birth to her and also that her parents had been married, along with numerous other details compiled together to fool a child. Over the years though, her curiosity grew and she began traveling here and there when she reached sixteen years old. But, she always came back home to Akelea.

On the bright side, May was well looked after throughout her childhood. She was given a basic education and generally well liked among the city. Well liked by those who didn't judge her for what they knew she was. One couple in-particular, the Shinomoris, took to her like their grandchild. Though they were old, they were both very skilled in fighting an martial arts and they passed these lessons on to May early in life. The Mister passed away when May was fifteen and the Misses when she was eighteen.

Currently, May works odd jobs for an Innkeeper and lodges in the attic, preferring not to live with her father. She has little or nothing to do with him. Soon enough she will be out sailing, adventuring to the surrounding cities, and who knows? Maybe that Forbidden Forest could satisfy her constant need to discover, learn, and travel.

Glad you're interested, but I won't cast judgement onto your sheet until it is done

    EDIT:

    @ Mr. Scarlet

Yes, Psychic pertains to telepathy and telekinesis xD Sorry it's not expanded.

Do ya'll think it'd be better if I did expand and explain more the powers for each element? Because I won't mind doing so if it'd help people.

Well, some things are more or less quite obvious what does what. But for the more obscure ones, it may help to explain some, in case someone takes it too far.

For example, if you look at what Magneto can do, you would see that having the metal mastery is kind of broken unless specific guidelines are given.

For those who don't know, I'll copy paste just one of his abilities from the x-men wikia:

Organic Iron Manipulation: Magneto can control the traces of iron within organic matter, which allows him to have full control over an opponent's body. He can manipulate the iron-enriched blood-flow to one's brain to induce aneurysms or unconsciousness, alter thoughts and perceptions, or blank a person's mind completely. He can even remove ferrous compounds from the bloodstream entirely through a person's skin. Magneto has used his magnetic abilities to extract the Adamantium bonded to Wolverine's biomolecular skeletal structure. Through this ability, he isalso able to save people who are injured by metal, e.g. bullets.

Now, I'm not saying people will do things like this, but making it so that something this broken couldn't happen wouldn't exactly be a bad thing.

Elaborating is good. It may be tomorrow night that I finish my sheet. That's fine that you don't accept it right away. No biggies. I'm the one being slow... well, I'm in the middle of an annoying thing in another thread and I trying to get rid of said annoying thing. >_>

    That makes sense, Mr. Scarlet.

I'll definitely have to elaborate on them, since I've been getting flooded with questions concerning specifics lol I don't want to have too much of a description, because I want people to come up with their own ideas, but I can see where this can get a tad crazy without some sort of guidelines.

    Set by me.
