Ariela moved through the water, loving every sight and sound. She swam to the surface and took a deep breath of the clean air. She was close to the shore but she knew no one came to this beach so she had nothing to worry about. She swam closer and looked sat in the shallows sunbathing. She smiled and pulled her hair to the front and started to braid it.
Ariela is a mermaid and she was never one to follow the rules. Posiden, the king of the sea, has placed laws against going to the surface. Humans now a days have killed so many of the sea life and so many of his merpeople that he doesn't want any more blood shed. So if she was caught then she would be imprisoned.
Ariela braided her hair then looked at the sun and her eyes sparkled. She loved it up here. There were so many different sounds and smells. She really didn't care about the humans that roamed, she cared more about the strange world that was just out of her reach.
When her hair was fully braided she tied it up with a thin kelp and leaned back so that her sunbathing was more even. She closed her eyes but kept her ears alert. She knew that humans were unpredictable. She moved her tail up and down, making small waves in the still body of water.
