    Default The Nightmare Project

    ~Plot~

In a dimension completely seperate from our own, with no numbered days, months or years, no sense of time and no concept of what we currently know as reality, two organizations are locked in a furious deathmatch with one another.

One is known as Dreamscape, the imperial tyrant corporation that currently holds governmental power over the area.

The other is The Nightmare Project, a rebel organization formed for the soul purpose of bringing down Dreamscape and putting an end to their reign of terror over the people.

You are one of TNP's Elite Squadron, and your goal couldn't be more clear: Destroy Dreamscape at all costs!

    ~Background and Important Intel~

The Bad Guys: Dreamscape is a company founded on the principles of genetic modification and controlled mutation. They never hesitate to grasp a chance at obtaining higher power, regardless of the price. For generations (according to our concept of time) they have ruled over the people, assassinating anyone who dares stand in their way, and crushing all who oppose them beneath the weight of their conquest for power and control. Only the wealthy elite (those who have gained Dreamscape's favor, or who work directly for the company) have the privelege of living normal lives. (Normal by our standards). Everyone else lives in a state of poverty, feeding on the scraps that are occassionaly tossed to them by those in power.

The Good Guys: The Nightmare Project was originally founded by a small group of rebels who dared to stand up against Dreamscape's tyranny and live to speak of it. At first it was discarded as a rumour, a myth, just another worthless pile of hopes and dreams to keep the people's spirits up. However, the rumours soon surfaced as reality, and The Nightmare Project's numbers quickly grew. It is now a full-fledged organization that recruits anyone with fighting experience and the heart to take the fight to Dreamscape's doorstep. It is divided into several sub-groups throughout the area, with the main group (TNP:ES) leading the way towards what seems like a viable victory over Dreamscape...

The Area: Nameless though it may be, "The Area" is home to countless civilians who live under the iron-fisted rule of Dreamscape, and those civilians are deeply connected to their home. Many have taken up arms to defend The Area in the current fight to reclaim control of their territory. There isn't much to it. The soil is ash-black, infertile and desolate. The small patches of grass that can be found are dried and dead, making brown and dark yellow stains across the blackened surface of the land (the only natural colors to be found anywhere). In some places, veins of Mana (see later description) have broken through the surface and spill the lifeblood of the land across the ground. The homes of the people are little more than scrap-metal shacks dotted across the surface. Patrols from the Dreamscape Security Department (DSD) often sweep the 'streets', enforcing Dreamscape's twisted concept of Law and Order...

Haven: Floating safely above the pathetic sight below and accessible only via Light-Rail Transit (LRT; see later description), is the foothold for Dreamscape's sinister operations. It is constantly debated amongst TNP operatives whether or not Dreamscape's actual HQ is located in Haven or not, but regardless of the answer, one thing is certain: Haven acts as a major stronghold for the corporation, and if Dreamscape is to fall, Haven must fall first. The mechanical floating island is littered with beautiful homes, industrial factories and genetics labs. There is also an abundance of artificial greenary and wildlife all around. Some of the 'bottom-dwellers' dream of working for Dreamscape and living peacefully in Haven...

Mana: The lifeblood of the planet. It accumulates in the form a thick, azure-colored liquid substance. Brief exposure to Mana may cause hightened sensory capability, amplified emotional response to stimulation and euphoria. Over-exposure can result in addiction, dulled senses, physical fatigue and Rentair Syndrome (RS; See later description). Constant over-exposure to mana is fatally toxic, resulting in death in every known case.

RS: Rentair Syndrome is named after the first victim to have experienced the symptoms. It is an infection gained in most cases of over-exposure to Mana, and attacks the body from the inside out. It first shuts down the body's sensory systems, then the nervous system, making the subject immune to all forms of stimulation, and unable to comprehend anything outside basic functions (eat, sleep, etc). If left untreated, RS quickly manifests and consumes the host entirely, turning them into a hostile walking husk (much like a zombie). The victim will then attack anything or anyone on 'sight' (a sensory replacement for the host's lost sight, which after extensive testing seems to be based on electrical pulses that are triggered by the energy-aura living beings constantly give off). By this point they are no longer considered 'living', and should be dispatched without hesitation.

LRT: The Light Rail Transit system functions much like our own LRT system, with bullet-shaped vessels traveling on tracks from one location to another. However, the tracks of this dimension's LRT system are manufactured with billions of condensed infared light particles, making construction and maintenance ten times easier and faster, and provides limitless potential for feasible travel routes. Only the 'priveleged' are permitted to use the LRT system, and are granted special ID passes that are scanned and verified at several checkpoints along each LRT route.

    ~Rules and Structure~

    First, 3 IMPORTANT FACTS:

    1. I'm not using caps to yell! If it's capitalized, that means its IMPORTANT! <3

    2. I'm putting these rules in place to give us all large, expandable boundries to play within! They aren't here to limit your fun or control you, quite the opposite in fact!

    3. If you post a skeleton, I'm going to assume you have READ and AGREE TO the rules, plot and extra information!

    - Follow standard forum rules, and all rules that apply specifically to this roleplay forum!

    - No God-modding! (Having a character that can dodge every bullet, block every attack, kill every opponent without breaking a sweat, etc.)

    - No Meta-gaming! (Using information you know as a player, that your character would not know, as if your character already knew it. Eg: Calling a character by their name before they've been introduced to your character.)

    - Please, please PLEASE no drama! Disagreeances are to be expected amongst our characters, as they are all unique and have differing opinions, however please keep in mind that behind each persona is a HUMAN BEING with FEELINGS. Do NOT let in-character scraps become PERSONAL or go beyond the roleplay.

    - Take your time! Make your posts detailed and eventful. Have your character interact as much as possible with the other characters and environment around them. Please only post ONCE per round! (A round being after each player has posted once). I will determine a turn order once we've started. This is to ensure that no one gets left behind! We all have real life things to do, and plenty of other options to pass time while we wait for the next person to post, so don't feel rushed! If you will be leaving for a period of time that prevents you from posting at least ONCE PER DAY, please LET ME KNOW.

    - Do not expect this RP to have a QUICK RESOLUTION, I have put a lot of time and effort into creating the world we're playing in, and I'd like to MAKE IT LAST. I will be dividing it up into SEVERAL ACTS, so be prepared for an extensive storyline!

    - I have decided on a GOAL ENDING (the ending we'd like to reach). I have NOT, however, written or planned any decisive path to reach this ending! Let's all collaborate to create an interesting and intuitive story that reaches the ending! Also, keep in mind that this ending is NOT SET IN STONE. Our characters CAN DIE, and we're going to need to work together as a TEAM to reach the ending in one piece!

    - This is a Dark and Semi-Mature RP, HOWEVER, this does NOT mean:

Excessive Cursing. Please keep foul language to a respectful minimum if you do use it.

Explicit Sexual Interaction. Relationships are ENCOURAGED, however this is not a porno or an erotic roleplay, please keep your characters clothes on, and refrain from going any farther than kissing!

Excessive Violence, Mayhem and Gore. You character MAY NOT be a psychopath, who goes on a rampage, ripping anyone and everything's guts out. All TNP operatives go through extensive screening procedures before being enlisted, so all characters must be mentally and physically STABLE.

    - I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE unique, creative and personalized characters! HOWEVER:

TNP only recruits people who have FIGHTING EXPERIENCE, and the GUTS and GRIT to fight back against Dreamscape's tyranical rule! This means there are no members of TNP that are spineless cowards who have never picked up a weapon in their life! Your character should also NOT be SHY or WITHDRAWN, as TNP is a TEAM ENVIRONMENT and relies heavily on COOPERATION! Let's make this a fun, team-based roleplay!

    - My MOST IMPORTANT RULE: HAVE FUN!! I have put a lot of time and effort into this project, but in the end it's still JUST A ROLEPLAY. That essentially means its JUST A GAME. So lets play nice, have fun, and keep it ALIVE!

    ~Available Roles~

Without further ado, let's meet the characters! You may tweak, edit and re-model your character as you see fit, but if you're going to make changes to your role archtype, PLEASE, ASK ME FIRST! <3

The Muscle: This character is the brawn of the team. They draw the fire of the enemy from their teammates, plow through the frontlines, smash through obstacles and do the heavy lifting and grunt work of each operation. (Reserved for myself)

The Technician: This character makes all the flashy gadgets, from powerful explosives to equipment for the team (such as lockpicking devices for The Scout, or medical supplies for The Medic). If it involves tinkering with hardware, there's no greater expert than The Technician.

The Hacker: This character is responsible for uploading the blueprints and schematics that are vital to both The Techinicians work, and every operation. They are responsible for hacking defense systems, bypassing security measures and providing alternate solutions when unforseen problems arise.

The Medic: This character is the one patching up the crew during and after operations. Don't let The Medic fool you though, they're more than just a healbot for the team! The Medic is also adept at creating poisons and other bio-weapons that can give the team an edge in any situation. The Medic prefers to stay out of confrontational situations, supporting the team from a safe distance.

The Scout: This character is responsible for keeping the team up-to-date during operations, making sure that no problem arises unexpectedly. They gather the intel that The Hacker bases their blueprints and schematics on, and support the team from cover with ranged attacks. The Scout prefers to avoid melee combat if at all possible, and is highly skilled with lockpicking and disarming mechanical traps.

    ~Skeleton~

    Role Chosen:

    Name:

    Gender:

    Age (20 - 30):

Bio (Please try to avoid going too in-depth with backgrounds. All our characters are orphans with relatively the same history of growing up under the opression of Dreamscape. Try to focus on present, relevant details that make your character unique and different. This can include, but is not limited to: Personality, Likes, Dislikes, Quirks, Flaws, etc.):

Weapon(s) of Choice (Max 2. Please make your weapons relevant to your character's chosen role. For example, the Hacker shouldn't be weilding a Greatsword xD If you have any questions regarding this part, feel free to PM me with them):

Fighting Style (In the case that your character finds themself in combat without their weapon(s)):

Picture and/or Description (Pictures are great, but also try to add a slightly detailed description as well. Give us an idea of what your character looks like to YOU!):

    --------End of Skeleton Model-----------

Something to keep in mind in regards to the characters: All our characters are assumed to have met quite some time ago, and have been working closely together for an extended period time. This prevents the awkward ice-breaking and 'get to know your neighbors' phase. Please have fun with this!

Take your time on your character! We all have time (and other things to do), and I have plenty of patience! Make your character as detailed as you can, and make sure they're going to be someone that you'll not only enjoy playing over the RP series, but also leave them room for dynamic growth and development! Who they start out as doesn't dictate who they have to end as!

PLEASE, I know its a lot, but before you post READ EVERYTHING ABOVE. It will make it smoother and more enjoyable for EVERYONE!

Now accepting reservations. The Technician and The Hacker are available. Reservations that do not post a skeleton within 24 hours are considered forfit! <3

    -------------------------

This is my skeleton, feel free to use it as an example

    Role Chosen: The Muscle

    Name: Vincent Lucera

    Gender: Male

    Age: 25

Bio: Vincent is a behemoth. He stands around 6 feet, 4 inches, weighing in at a bulky 275 lbs of pure muscle. This makes him perfect as a powerhouse for smashing through blockades and doors, taking hits for his teammates, and being an all-around tank. His incredible size and muscle-power make him slow, however, both physically and mentally. Vincent believes the best strategy is always 'break through the front door'. His rash train of thought has a tendancy for getting not only himself, but also his teammates into tight situations. Under all his muscle, he has a kind heart, and tries his best to put his team before himself, but his lack of intellect can often times be cumbersom.

Vincent likes spending time with his teammates between operations, talking about lighter topics and trying to forget for a small amount of time that they're locked in this war with Dreamscape, battling for the wellfare of the people. He dislikes dark topics, and heavy emotions. He always tries to keep the team in high spirits. Though foolhardy, Vincent always has a cheery disposition, and he smiles as often as possible. Few things anger him, but threatening or hurting those close to him is most certainly at the top of that list. When he enters an enraged state, it can take several minutes for him to return to a rational train of thought (or as close as it gets for him).

Vincent both joined, and fights for, The Nightmare Project because he often dreams of a world in which everyone can live as equals, without powerhungry governments and oppression of the less privleged. He hopes to one day take down Dreamscape, and use their resources to bring a peaceful and healthy way of living to everyone.

Vincent can often times be caught muttering silly things to himself, and sometimes he says things as if he were telling someone something, though it really isn't directed at anyone in particular. He also has a habit of fidgeting with his bangs when he's bored or nervous.

Vincent's bane is any opponent who utilizes speed. It is easy to flank or surround him, and he often times has to make up for his lack of speed with his extensive reach. He must rely on his team to cover his back in most confrontational situations. His berserker rage is also a weakness, as it makes it hard for him to control himself, and he can sometimes put his team in danger by making reckless attacks and not being observant of his surroundings.

Weapon of Choice: Vincent wields a massive Greatsword. It is a heavy two-handed sword for most normal men, and some smaller soldiers would even have trouble lifting it, but Vincent can easily maneuver between wielding it with one or two hands. If weilded in one hand his attacks become faster, though they are still slow by normal standards. When he uses two hands to swing his mighty weapon, it gains devestating force, and sometimes the impact alone can knock nearby enemies off balance.

Fighting Style: When Vincent finds himself without his Greatsword, he resorts to the Wrestling style of fighting, utilizing powerful grapples and slams.

Picture/Description: I couldn't find any pictures that did justice to my mental image of Vincent, so I made a detailed description.

Vincent is 6'4, weighing in at 275 lbs of pure muscle without his armor on. He wears a set of heavy armor, but with his build he finds it as easy to maneuver in as not wearing armor at all. The armor is a dull silver color, with a steel blue hue that it gained from aging. Not having the proper equipment to make adequate repairs has left the armor weather-worn and battle-scarred, much like it's wearer. He doesn't wear a helmet, as he claims it restricts his field of vision, so his square jaw, firm facial features, striking blue-green eyes and short, dirty-blonde hair are always visible. His hair has a natural spiked look to it, with the left side of his bangs hanging loosely in front of his eye. It's been like that for so long that he hardly even notices anymore. Vincent has a tattoo of a great serpent that wraps around his abdomen and slithers across his left arm. It's mouth opens up at his wrist, as if about to make a meal of his left hand. He also has a tribal "scar" tattoo that goes from just below his right eye, down his right cheek and ends at the base of the right side of his neck. Both of his tattoos are in standard blank ink. He also has an actual scar that runs from above his right eye, over the bridge of his nose and ends on his left cheek.

I think this is the perfect section! Just remember that not everyone uses the default skin - We tend to discourage using multiple colours because it can cause the text to 'disappear' into the background on different fonts. Just a tip for next time.

And by Semi-Mature, I assume you mean [PG-13] or less, correct?

Now, if you’re looking for more players, don’t forget to make use of all the features that RPA has to offer. You can submit your game to the Roleplaying Games Directory here and if you post here, you can ask the Staff to advertise your roleplay in their signatures.

Most importantly, make sure to apply for Roleplay of the Week!

Any more questions, just ask! And good luck with your game~

Thanks so much Auki I'll keep the color thing in mind for next time.

PG-13, maybe 14A, but that'd probably be pushing it. I'd only say that based on the potential for mild violence and potential reference to drug related substances (Mana).

    Hopefully that's alright!

    It's no problem at all!

And the reason that I say this is because anything above a [PG-13] rating needs to be in the Mature section.

So you have a choice, you can keep it in General and, as a GM, ensure everything keeps to a [PG-13] rating or below.
Or I can move it to the Mature section for you and you can choose to set the bar at a higher rating.

This is all to ensure that people don't sign up for roleplays that they are uncomfortable with. Some people love blood and guts, some people can't stand it. Letting players know before hand keeps them from dropping out midway due to unseen posting restrictions (keeping it PG-13) or unseen mature content (violence, swearing, drugs).

For reference, PG-13 allows you to have violence aon the basis that it is not explicitly descriptive. You can also make mention to drug-like substances as long as the posts do not get too graphic.

In that case, it should be safe in this thread. I'd rather it not go beyond minor reference and mildly descriptive combat.

Can I claim the Hacker? Or is it that there can be more than one of each? Also, will have A CS up tonight.

Only one of each, after each spot has been applied for I'll pick the most appealing character sheets and let each person know who got the role they applied for.

Due to there not being much competition, I'm considering accepting reservations though.

After much consideration, I will be taking reservation requests. On that note, The Muscle and The Hacker are on reserve.
