Eugenie left her older daughter's room and closing the door, she slid down the frame until she sat on the floor, her head in her hands, sighing deeply. She wondered where she had gone so wrong. She had ensured that the girl had everything she wanted or needed to be successful... yet she had turned into a monster... but had Lillian grown up so differently. Yes she had been three years younger, but she had also been given whatever she asked for, with the exception of going to university...
"Good god... what have I done to you?"
Eugenie just rested there for a few moments, she had wondered how David was getting on with Lillian... but it seemed not to matter, the bigger crisis was the peril of their older daughter who had it out for the younger one.
Meanwhile Anna had put pen to paper and began to write about the encounter been Lillian and the Stable boy, she would send it to her grandmother in London, and a separate anonymous letter to one of their cousins also in the city. A cousin who spread just about any gossip at all, though without a direct source named, it would just circulate around, turn some eyebrows but everyone would ignore it... This would set the stage for when the real truth came out about the affair, she knew it would happen.
Opening her door, some time after her mother had gone, she handed the letters to a footman and quietly asked that he send them off in the morning and he obliged. She explained that the letters were both to her grandmother, asking after other cousins and possible suitors for the future. This was all she need to say.
"Oh little Lillian... it's only just begun... only just begun." She needed to catch her with the stable boy, this was the most important thing.
