    Default [PG-13] Blood Crimes 1x1 [KyoY8 and Wattz]

    ~~~~~
    Kyo Yumi, is a young detective. All that anybody knows about his past is that his hometown was burned to the ground, killing off everyone he ever knew at the age of fifteen. Police Chief Miss Vine took him under her wing and after four years he was accepted into the Police Force. Kyo stands at 6ft 2, black short hair, usually messy. His eyes are a deep hazel, reflecting a deep twisted intelligence. Kyo's view of the world is warped, he holds no one close to him, not even Miss Vine.
    Kyo is a quick learner, a dab hand with mechanics and inventing new technologies.
    His secret talent is drawing and painting.
    ~~~~~~

    The cab pulled up outside the apartment block, the rain pouring down. Kyo stepped out and lifted his baggage out from the back, paid off the driver and looked up at the building, squinting through the rain. It didn't look much to him, then again it wasn't much to look at. He took a key out of his pocket which had a room number and address on it. He stepped through the doors and headed up the stairs dragging his bags behind him. Reaching the third floor he sighed and checked the key for the room number; '55'.
    Coming to the door he slowly opened it to reveal the small, one bedroom, one bathroom, one living room kitchen.

    "They really are getting tight with their money" Kyo commented as he stepped inside.

    He looked around the place, with a small sigh before looking back at his luggage.

    "Better than nowhere I suppose" He spoke, before beginning to unpack his clothes

    Enter Iolana Baris, or Io

    She lived in the apartment directly above, and had just thrown her first and last cigarette out the window. Io left the window cracked open, if only to hear the rain outside, and then threw the full carton of cigarettes into her trash bin. It had been a stupid decision, anyways, to use smoke to cut through the melancholy. Io coughed loudly, trying to clear up her lungs again.

    Now she was just walking around the room, pacing, sighing, occasionally stopping to rub her cold, bare feet together. Anything to distract, anything to avoid deep thought. Io laughed at herself, a light trembling chuckle, then turned on her stereo to play music. Her neighbors had complained before of the noise, but no matter how low she kept the sound the walls were cheap and thin.

    All Io wanted to do was leave the apartment. Go for a walk, even in the rain, but every time she went out she felt like all the eyes were watching her, and that every shadow out of the corner of her eyes was just the person she was seeking to avoid. All she could do was wait, wait and hope that she wouldn’t be found.

    After he had finished unpacking, and moving the furniture around to his liking he let out a soft sigh, wondering what his next targets were. Kyo looked out the window at the dark dreary and wet city with a light smile, his guess was that this city was one of those cities where the police did nothing to hinder crime, just because they were afraid of the criminals. To Kyo's mind, the police were as vile as the criminals themselves.

    Kyo walked to a cupboard in his kitchen, and pulled out a bottle of whiskey, pouring himself a glass, and tossing two ice cubes in on top of it. This was one of his major vices; alcohol. He smoked too, however he only smoked when he was feeling under stress, or when his insomnia was getting the better of him, it more often than not helped him sleep. He could and would drink in all moods, oddly enough though, he hardly ever got drunk.

    He sat watching local news, only confirming his suspicions about the crime and law in the city. After a few moments, and a couple of sips of whiskey, he walked over to his laptop and printed off a map layout of the city. Since he believed he was going to be here for a long time, he thought he might as well commit it to memory. As he was examining the map, that is when he heard the music drifting down through the ceiling. It was pointless to complain however, he could tell the music was low, and he knew too well that the walls were so thin he could probably put his fist through it.

    Io felt the compulsion to turn the television on, but refused. Most of it would just show up as static, anyways. She was glad it hadn’t been fixed. But he would be on the screen, and maybe even she would be, too. Maybe even the building, and all that fire, and a petite little newscaster pretending to stand in front of the wreck with a microphone in hand. She closed her eyes and breathed heavily, listening to the lilting voice of the woman against the background of a sultry piano.

    She heard someone downstairs watching television, the news more specifically, and grabbed a pillow to throw over her face. Io listened like this for a while, until she heard the names spoken:

    … suspects Jesse Harlow and I-

    Io turned the music up even louder. She began to pace again, back and forth, back and forth. It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me, I had nothing to do with it.

    She had to get out of here. Grabbing up a few belongings into a rucksack bag, she opened the door and—

    Was that smoke she smelled?

    He heard the music go louder, and then pacing, a suspicious thing but more than likely someone with their own problems. He went back over the map before tossing it onto the table. He opened his door and headed downstairs to the receptionist and requested a list of the tenants, which was given to him after he showed the man his badge.
    He poured over it as he walked slowly back up the stairs his nose picking up the faint smell of smoke as he climbed up. There was no fire alarm yet, so he didn't think there would be any danger of a fire braking out. However he knew first hand that fires can spread like wildfire especially in buildings like these.

    Now Io was sure she could smell the smoke, but why wasn't the alarm going off? She was out in the hallway, a dingy little space with door stretching in one direction and stairs stuffed awkwardly in the corner. There was a fire escape down the way, one that would hopefully trigger the alarm for the other residents. All she had to do was sneak down, and-

    No, no, no good. She hid around a corner as one of the residents came up the stairs. She did not want to be seen fleeing the premises, especially with a fire starting up and her name and face on the evening news. But where there was fire, Jesse was sure to be around the corner. They all needed to get out before either force hit.

    Too late.

    Boom, an explosion rocked the bottom floor of the complex. Io ran past the man coming up the stairs, no longer bothering to hide herself. "Fire!" she screamed as she reached the fire escape, pulling the door open. But the alarm still wasn't triggering.

    As he climbed he heard the footsteps of someone climbing down, then stop. He thought nothing of it and continued up towards the smell of the smoke, until the explosion hit. He braced himself then paused still not hearing the alarm. He ran past a girl looking for a fire alarm switch, which he soon found and pressed it, but nothing came of it. He cursed and ran up into his room that had already begun to burn.
    He took out what was necessary and called the fire department himself. He climbed up the building banging on every door to rouse everyone who wasn't then he head back down quickly and out the building.a

    Io didn't think much of the stranger at the moment, but there he was again, out on the streets. She was more concerned with escaping Jesse. He was more persistent than she'd given him credit for, more ruthless. Who knows how many had died in that explosion? What good was it having powers if she was unable to use them against him? Every shadow looked like him, every shout sounded like his voice.

    She ran like hell, about to turn down an alleyway when she was met with yet another explosion. The trashcan to her left went up in flames, and the force of it knocked her back. Io scrambled backwards, knowing well that he was close, when finally she felt a hand grasp the scruff of her shirt. She screamed, but it did her no good. It was Jesse.

    Noticing the woman run, he thought it was slightly suspicious. He followed her close and saw another explosion, he pressed his back against the wall, looking back, he pulled out his firearm ready, then peaked around the corner.
    He saw a man grabbing the woman's shirt roughly. The villainy it was one of those things that he couldn't stand. He stepped out and fired off a shot at the wall, the sound was muffled since his handgun had a silencer on it, but it was a definite sound.
    "Let go of the woman now" Kyo commanded

    Jesse turned his head around to see the one who'd fired his gun. Most of Jesse's face was concealed by a gray hood, all except for a sly smile and a few strands of blonde hair. Io continued to struggle, and while Jesse was distracted she managed to kick him hard enough to drop from his grasp. She fell to the concrete with a sharp thud, and behind her she could hear a laugh.

    "Didn't take long for the cops to find us now, didn't it?" He said. "Didn't take long for me to find you either!"

    He turned to face the stranger, arms outstretched. He backed up to step on Io's hand, and she cried out in pain. "What's the matter, Io? Where'd all that fight of yours go?" Without warning, Jesse threw his hands forward, letting a jet of fire emit from his palms and straight towards the detective.

    Spoiler: The show must go on.
