The Story So Far

It is early July in the year 1914; a delicate time for all classes within the Russian Empire. Compelled by a sense of Pan-Slavism to ally with the country of Serbia, the Russians are drawn ever closer to entering the brewing World War I, leaving many uncertain of the trials to come and highly skeptical of the current state of Russia's government. Taking advantage of the wary concerns among a significant number of the empire's subjects, the radical Bolshevik Party secretly asserts a bid for power, seemingly to warn their countrymen against intervening in the conflict, though behind the scenes their leaders prepare a grim fate for the currently-reigning Romanov Dynasty. And in the midst of it all, the inexperienced Tsar Nicholas II unknowingly plays right into the Bolsheviks' hands by preparing a mobilization of troops due in August, all the while facing potential tragedy in his private life as his 9-year-old son Tsarevich Alexei battles with hemophilia on a daily basis.

Originally summoned to the aid of the infant Tsarevich nine years prior, psychic healer Grigori Rasputin has long since earned a place for himself as one of the Imperial Family's closest confidants, doing everything in his power to ease the burden on their minds if only with regard to young Alexei. But all the same, his association with the Tsar has left him painfully aware of the growing conspiracy against the Romanovs, and the Bolsheviks, in a bid to weaken Rasputin's protection of the Imperial Family and discredit both of their primary enemies, have now begun to take advantage of Rasputin's close ties with the Romanovs, portraying him as an evil, manipulative megalomaniac to the public in order to turn the majority of his own countrymen against him. Meanwhile Joseph Stalin, one of the Bolsheviks' foremost leaders, turns to a dark power of his own to counteract Rasputin's abilities, amassing a secretive army of similarly-gifted, pro-Bolshevik individuals in his quest to eliminate all traces of the Romanov line.

And so now, desperate to find new allies in his private struggle against the Bolsheviks, Rasputin has likewise taken to quietly training and recruiting a younger generation with powers similar to his own. These he takes in as his personal apprentices, hastily preparing them for the struggles that lie ahead, while he himself continues to oversee the Imperial Family as a silent guardian, and ensure in his own right that the ominous plans of the Bolsheviks for the Imperial Family do not come to pass.

Rules of the RP

Standard rules include no godmoding, no powerplaying, and third-person story format only. In order to ensure literacy and proper handling of these rules, all character requests must include an RP sample for said character(s) of no less than two paragraphs.

Also, this is an R-rated RP, and some degree of *ahem* descriptive content is allowable by that standard, so prospective players must be 18 or older to apply. But don't turn this RP into a blood-spattered porn-fest either. There IS a fine line between Rated R and Rated NC-17, and anything that clearly crosses into the latter will not be tolerated.

Regarding inactivity (which I hope will not be a problem), if you are inactive for so long that the RP is slowed down as a result, I will PM you with a warning message. If you do not post or give me some kind of explanation or response within a week after this warning is sent, you will be removed from the RP. Simple as that.

With respect to real historical figures (Rasputin, Stalin, the Tsar, etc.) being used as characters, some degree of research is expected, but strict historical accuracy is not required. If you would like to make a few minor tweaks regarding part of Stalin's bio, for example, that's fine by me. However, if your version of Stalin is so far removed from his historical counterpart that he's unrecognizable or contradictory to the established plot, then we've got a problem. (If in doubt, feel free to check with Wikipedia or any other relatively reliable source to get a feel for the historical figure's personality.) For your convenience, a different profile skeleton will be provided for historical figures that does not require prospective applicants to write out the figure's entire biography.

And finally, in order to ensure full creative freedom in this RP, the ending to the Romanovs' story in reality (Rasputin is killed, entire family is overthrown and murdered, Communism takes over, etc.) will be ignored for purposes of this RP. This means that whether or not the Imperialists/Bolsheviks win or lose is not set in stone, and will depend solely on how the RP progresses.

Bio: The daughter of a factory worker from St. Petersburg and a farm girl from a nearby rural community, Irina was born shortly after her mother's move to urban life. As such, she acquired horseback riding as a hobby from an early age, frequently riding on her mother's faithful steed on the occasional errand, even as more modern means of transport began to gain popularity. It was during one such ride when Irina was 13 that she first discovered her powers; a gang of criminals stopped Irina and her mother in the middle of the road and began tearing at her mother's dress, at which point a terrified Irina snapped and inadvertently set the thugs ablaze.
Unsure what to make of this incident, Irina's mother hid the girl's powers from her husband and sought counsel from the famous Grigori Rasputin, who reassured her that her daughter's abilities were a gift from God and agreed to train Irina as much as he could. Irina has managed a small amount of control over her powers since then, but when seriously stressed her control still occasionally tends to slip.
