    Potatrobot's roleplay characters

Hello. This is where I keep a record of my past roleplay characters, despite the fact that I don't roleplay on this site any more. A lot of characters that I made have been removed because I didn't like the shallowness of their concept or their lack of use, but the ones that I think are worth remembering are listed here, for posterity.

Either way, a lot of these sheets are in disrepair (severely outdated, some to the point of cringe-inducing embarrassment), so over time I will be going over these and setting the record straight, as it were.

Each post contains a character sheet with relevant information, and a section below discussing the character, including sources of inspiration.

    Table of contents

    Name: Flank T'ravis
    Age: 69
    Sex: Male
    Race: Ravis
    Spoiler:

    Home planet: Cortyax
    Spoiler:

Appearance: Flank is of middling Ravis height, around eight feet, and has a toned, muscular frame.

Personality: Flank is patient, reasonable, and always prefers to discuss matters before making up his mind. He prides himself in his ability to withstand copious verbal abuse without resorting to using it himself, which has only been tempered by years of living closely with Samantha. He has something of a white knight complex - he can't help trying to help, or be the hero when he sees a need for help, even when this gets him into trouble. It's his steadfastness, and his desire to help, that kept him with Samantha for so long, to the point where he began to see past her abrasive nature and

Bio: Flank spent most of his youth unsure of what he wanted to do. He was given a technical education and thought he might become an engineer, but once he finished school he joined the military instead. His education served him well, however, starting him off as a mechanic and technician, and promoting him in those fields until he chose to become a soldier. He flourished here as well, eventually becoming an Admiral of the battle fleet and given command of a warship.

During this time, Cortyax came under threat of a rival military power, which escalated to the point where war was declared against the Ravis. In preparation for an invasion, the government and military issued an incentive for foot soldiers to install weaponised implants into their bodies. Flank, despite being highly ranked, volunteered to set an example for the men and women under his command. A variety of weapons were available, and all would be compatible even after the basic implants were installed, but Flank chose what amounted to a cross between a sniper rifle and an anti-aircraft cannon, combining the portability and accuracy of the rifle with the function of the cannon. In addition to the implants, the soon-dubbed Military Ravis were also given a pigment dye which reflected the standard colours of the Ravis military, that of a deep crimson.

When the invasion did come, the implants proved more than effective for the ground troops, while combat in the air was trying. Flank, aboard his warship, exhausted all available ammunition shooting down dropships and battle cruisers that attempted to descend on a capital city. When one more cruiser presented itself and began to approach the city's airspace, instead of waiting for backup, Flank ordered everyone off his warship and proceeded to crash it into the enemy cruiser, ejecting before the impact, bringing both ships down outside the city limits and potentially saving thousands of civilians. This of course was a massive breach of protocol, despite the lives it saved, and Flank was discharged from the military, earning the cruel nickname 'Glass Cannon' in the process. Falling back into uncertainty about what he would do with his life, Flank packed his bags and left Cortyax, hoping that he would find some kind of niche to fill outside colonised Ravis territory.

He found work as an off-world bounty hunter, opting to track down and bring in wanted criminals to fulfill his sense of duty. It was in this line of work that he met Samantha, a Kon'matis mercenary who was a lot less discerning in her targets. This, combined with her abrasive, almost hostile attitude landed her in a dispute with the rest of her team. A firefight broke out as other rival mercenary teams arrived, and Flank ended up behind cover with Samantha. Flank helped her escape the scene along with himself, and they both decided that they might as well stay together for a little while and watch each other's backs until the situation died down. Two years down the track, they are still together, working as a freelance mercenary team, and are nigh inseparable. Towards the later end of these two years, the free time they spent together seamlessly turned to dating.

    Equipment:
    -AA Sniper Cannon

Flank is my first ever character, and if you have read the atrocities that used to pass as his character sheets, you'll know how badly I wanted to bring him up to speed. I've trimmed the fat so that he doesn't seem so bloated, and he might even pass for a slightly overpowered character instead of a very overpowered one. Everything is still there, I guess. I've retconned a lot of his backstory and added some new stuff as well, so his personality and bio actually connect and support each other. At the end of the day he still ended up an ex-Admiral of the Ravis fleet, became a mercenary and teamed up with Samantha, but it's a lot more neat and I've dropped a lot of the useless gimmicks that older iterations of him used to have. Also instead of cramming anatomical trivia into random places on the sheet, I've just spoilered a description of the creature under the Race field and left it at that. Same with his home planet and the details of his cannon.

Anyway, let's talk more about the character. Flank was my first entry to the roleplaying world and as such I performed terribly. He got a place in another roleplay, but I hadn't changed anything about him so he was essentially the same. I submitted him for what was technically a continuation of the first roleplay he was in, but that stopped fairly quickly. He has a pretty simple place in my overarching cosmic universe where I aim to include many more of my characters, existing in the vague space-faring alien interstellar community, along with Samantha, Kassandra, Klodax, Schizo and Adam. Speaking of Kassandra, I've depicted Flank here in the period of life just after he met Samantha, while at the same time, Kassandra, their daughter, is kicking around another roleplay at what I've decided is 28 years old. The reason for this is that this is how I view present-day Flank while 28 year old Kassandra exists in Flank's future; he's 69 at that point.

How I came up with the name Flank is a bit of a story. Playing Halo multiplayer with some friends at highschool allowed me to come across a variation of the Warthog vehicle with a long range, almost insta-hitting cannon on the back. I think it was fan-made. One of my friends called it a flak cannon, which is a fair assumption to make. Turns out it was actually a gauss cannon. Anyway, I misheard him and thought he called it a flank cannon, and when I made a black and red variation of my Ravis Spore creature with what I believed to be the weapon in question mounted to its shoulder, I named it Flank. I was a bit upset about this once I learned that I messed up, but I was made very happy once I looked up what flank meant. It was startlingly appropriate, so I kept the name. Henceforth, this character was named Flank. I don't know how I came up with Travis as a last name, though. Maybe because it has ravis in it.

Inspiration: Since I've retconned a lot about this character and added more to it, the original inspiration isn't really relevant any more. However I was inspired to put a gun on the shoulder of a creature after I saw War Machine in Iron Man 2. The shape and function of the cannon was inspired by the gauss cannon from Halo, pictured here.

    Spoiler: Picture and description

    Name: Samantha Klancher
    Gender: Female
    Age: 33 (Auren years)
    Race: Konematis
    Homeworld: Auren
Bio: Samantha displays an attitude that seems to indicate a love-less, uncaring childhood on her part. This isn't true, although her parents were mercenaries and so weren't often around to raise Samantha to be polite. To anyone whom Samantha doesn't hold in high regard, or people who do not employ her, she speaks with frequent, uncalled-for sarcasm and a snarky attitude.

Samantha followed her parents into the mercenary trade, specialising in long-range rifles and polearm weapons on the side. Neither could protect her when she came face-to-face with a grenade, however. She was able to avoid most of the force of the explosion, but a few shards of shrapnel entered her system and could not be removed. The metal reacts with her blood, turning many once-yellow parts of her body to jet black.

She worked in a small team of mercenaries residing in a maze of underground corridors on planet Ariid for several years, the team consisting of three other men named Dorn, Parras and Kirem. She'd completed an assassination assignment one morning and told her employer the good news, but it seemed that employer wanted no loose ends and hired the rest of her squad to kill her once she had completed the assignment.

Fleeing through the underground and hiding in an air vent allowed her to gain the upper hand on her former squad-mates. She managed to kill Parras and shoot one of Dorn's two heads, and was about to finish off Kirem when Dorn disrupted her. He was easily dispatched with only one remaining head, but Kirem had fled by that stage. Samantha could hardly blame him, since she could tell that he was harbouring a crush for her, and probably didn't even want to kill her.

After ransacking the small base she used to call home, she headed for the surface to find new employment, and instead found Flank. Like to any stranger her abrasive, sarcastic attitude was prevalent, and he couldn't cope with her presence, but they had a lot to gain by sticking together and she didn't find him all that bad. It didn't take long for her to click it at him for being so skittish around her, and she didn't let up when she learned that it was because he was nervous around women. After that, she noticed Flank gain more confidence, which was good because she was beginning to contemplate kicking him in the stomach.

Two years have passed since then, and they're thick as thieves. They work together as freelance mercenaries and they live in the same apartment. As Flank got over his inability to cope with women, Samantha got to know him better and as a result, she stopped speaking so harshly to him. Her sarcasm certainly never left, but with Flank it's so much less abrasive.

Other notes: The Konematis, having evolved on a world laced with gold, are obsessed with the substance. Samantha can detach herself from it, however. Her race is also one of the very few to have developed hooves as feet, so the ability to walk quietly did not become available until the invention of rubber soles that were strapped to the underside of the hooves. Samantha has to wear these, naturally. They evolved from crustaceans, and they still have parts of an exo-skeleton. Her arms and lower legs are encased in a dense exo-skeleton that resists blade attacks. Having a set of pincers, they can speak a separate language native to pincer-mouthed races. Samantha has this skill. Like Flank, she has decided to stop wearing body armour and stick to regular clothes, although she has chosen clothing adapted from Ravis fashion.

    Spoiler: Old sheet

Isn't she sexy? Samantha was my second character of two in the roleplay on my home forum, the GAC, known as the Nerrone's Rangers. The thing is, I promised myself I would introduce her on the next planet we, the cast of NR, visited. But that took much longer than I thought. I calculated the time between submitting her sheet and making her first post: 305 days, 22 hours. Holy. Shit.

This was back in the time when Flank was supposed to be nervous around women, so Samantha would pose a challenge for him. But, since the first Nerrone's Rangers RP finally ground to a halt just after I introduced her to the plot, they never ended up meeting. The quality of my posts was dwindling anyway, so I was glad I could scrap that commitment.

The original creature I made in a creation contest in Spore, using a template. The creature was a flop, but several remakes later I found out that it does better with female bodies than male ones. I threw Samantha together, just to have a character that utilised the creature base, and I suddenly felt compelled to make her my next character in the roleplay. I've edited her since then; her legs were too short.

At first, her rifle had two modes: rapid fire and 1-at-a-time. Her grenade launcher was also originally a dual RPG launcher. The GM put a hand up and said 'no' to that arsenal, but I wasn't upset about that. Her two guns were based off weapons (that I liked) in computer games and I shouldn't have changed them, since that made them different weapons. Her rifle was inspired by how I felt about the StA14 Semi-automatic Rifle in Killzone 2, because I liked using that rifle. It was fun. Her grenade launcher was inspired by the grenade launcher that takes up a secondary fire on most computer game assault carbines. I'm actually glad I got to change them back.

Like Flank, I've entered Samantha in the new dice-less roleplay on the GAC. Also like Flank, I've given her a bit of revision and balancing, as well as distributed 60 points to her attributes. For some reason, spreading them evenly for Samantha was harder than it was for Flank. Flank's took longer, but I wasn't culling points from other areas to beef up certain stats as much as I was for Samantha.

Near the end of Nerrone's Rangers' lifespan, I got to introduce Samantha, but her posts were all long-winded and pre-written so they weren't as good as I wanted them to be. I was planning to have Flank and Samantha become close via some more long winded, pre-written posts, but I feel that it would have been tedious. But, with the new RP being set in an alternate timeline, I was able to skip all of that and start them off at the close relationship I wanted them to have all along. That way I don't have to waste time setting up scenarios for them to bond, or bring up issues to solve by myself, or any of that crap.

Now, you might be asking why she's nine feet tall. That's a bit excessive, isn't it? The reason she's this tall is because I always envisioned her as taller than Flank. But, as I was revising Flank for this new RP, I realised that a creature as dense and massive as him doesn't have any business being at average human height (which is what he was in the original RP). So, I made him eight feet tall so that his mass made sense, and even then I decreased it (used to be 250kg, now 190kg). But since Samantha's supposed to be taller than him no matter what, she got a boost too. Now that I think of it, 80kg is a bit light for a creature that tall and with so many body parts covered in exoskeleton.

Inspiration: The creature base was made in Spore using a basic template (including the hooves), but the rest of it was my design. The shells on her arms actually came from a creature made by another, more famous Spore user called Parkaboy, that had those parts on its forearms. Samantha's snarky, bitter attitude may have originally drawn from Rose of Sharon Cassidy from Fallout: New Vegas.

    * Samantha's sheet will be modified and the previous ones will be deleted like Flank's, but her backstory doesn't really need that much touching up. I think it works fine.

This is Schizo's old sheet. It will be heavily redone, to the point where he will be unrecognisable. But for a quick teaser:

The New Light movement saw the implementation of a vast digital matrix as a form of tangible afterlife, to which those faithful could upload their consciousness and last forever. However, certain planetary governments grew concerned about the sudden dip in working populations, and began retrieving ascended individuals and installing them into work armatures. This includes the characters Adam and Max, found later in this thread. It also, however, includes the Triumvirate: the three leaders of the New Light movement, crammed into a single armature. Originally this was done as punishment, but the leaders built a three-faced armature of gleaming white and adorned it with Papal vestments, from which they continue to lead the movement. The three-faced head swivels around to bring one face to the front at a time (like the Quintessons), though the three control the armature as one, sometimes seeming to be a single entity.

Inspirations are completely different. While before it was a mix of GIR, Yes Man and Marvin the Paranoid Android, now it's the Quintessons, the Prophet robot from OneShot (good game, go play) and an episode of Cowboy Bebop.

    Player Name: Potatrobot
    Character Name: Jackson M. Garnet
    Deck/Cabin Assignment: Deck 5, cabin number 521
Description: Jackson is a Caucasian middle-aged man, nigh on 36 years old. He has very dark black hair that he keeps slicked back with a hair product that varies with every planet he visits, and green eyes that require glasses, which are distinctively trapezoidal in shape and have a thick, black frame. Not particularly tall or physically built, Jackson can often be seen sitting down or standing idle, usually fiddling with a strange looking electric gadget. He also takes to wearing office clothes, even out of the office.
Profession: Jackson works for Zodiac corporation, in the IT support field. Six months ago he located Schizo's broken mainline feed, a single glance at which secured the fact that it was beyond diagnosis or replication. However, either out of over-excitement on the CEO's part or because he actually earned it, Jackson was promoted to chief of IT support.
Bio: Jackson was born and raised on planet Australis, a former Londinium colony with a relatively low, multicultural population despite its vast and varied landscape. It also happens to be the planet that Zodiac corporation chose to be the home of its HQ building complex. He learned to enjoy working with computers, and the ecstatic sensation he felt while teaching his high-school crush at the time to use the more advanced features of a wrist Omni set his course permanently: he'd help dumb people use computers. And thus, IT support with Zodiac. Nothing came of the crush, though.

Such a position has its perks. Apart from knowing how almost all of Zodiac's computer systems work, Jackson gets to sample prototype gadgets from time to time. After declaring the forearm-mounted dongle and self-regenerating bioplastic earplugs a financial dead-end, Jackson fell in love with a highly advanced prototype wrist Omni. His first question, upon hearing about this so-called prototype, was how another Omni could possibly be considered a prototype when they were already a massive part of the technology market. He was then shown the prototype, negating his question.

It was a step — no, a rocket powered leap — away from what people would expect to see in an Omni. The prototype was a translucent green sheet of carbon film 10cm wide and 20cm long, with a 2cm thick black rectangle that stretched across the upper edge. This little strip of hardware contained the most highly compressed incarnation of Omni technology, plus some extra Zodiac-exclusive features. The carbon film, however, was where the magic happened. The paper-thin rectangle of what looked like ordinary, green-tinged plastic was a fully flexible, versatile, touch sensitive screen. The black strip projected the visual output through the film and detected points where it was being pressed, regardless of what shape it happened to be in. Best of all, the screen could be wrapped around the user's wrist and its bottom end would clip into the other side of the black strip, and it would retain its functionality. The screen could be rolled tight or even folded without creasing. And with a sturdy, waterproof design, well it's easy to say why the Omni hasn't left Jackson's sight since he got it.

The Omni was also given a very specific feature that, for some reason, went into the Schizo units instead of human-operated systems where it belonged: the Omni has the ability to access effectively any computer system and make available to the user any function the system has access to. There was a very specific reason for giving Jackson a tool like this.

Jackson is the second character I've made for Interstellar Cruise Ship Scorpio - Earthbound. He featured in my last post in the previous IC, although he wasn't properly a character back then. He didn't even have a name.
But with another viewpoint on the events of Earthbound, I think this will get very fun, especially if he's an IT techo with a computer that can access most others. The Omni was inspired by something I remember seeing in a video in science class a year or two ago. It was pretty much a bendy piece of what I recall was carbon film, with small computers on the edges that acted just as they do in the above description. And for some reason I imagined the Omnis in the IC looked like iPhones strapped to people's wrists, so I went beyond that to get the image out of my head. Plus, it can be stepped on without damaging

I put him on planet Australis because there weren't any developed city type planets on the list on the OOC other than Londinium, Santos, or others that would be less suited to be a standard city-bearing planet. So I made one up for this. I named it Australis because we've got a player from the UK with a character from what is pretty much planet Britain, so I thought I'd make a planet Australia to match cards.

Inspiration: Believe it or not, Superman was the image in my head when I thought of Jackson. It's just his trapezoidal glasses and black hair, as well as his office job, but still... Superman. While he was very vocal in the first ICSS roleplay, Jackson seems to have taken on the quiet, somewhat boring attitude of Arcade Gannon from Fallout New Vegas. I want to work out of that, since Arcade's a bit pessimistic about himself.

Keep up the good work, Spud; I enjoy reading profiles that also explain the thought process behind creating the character.
    * While I may be removing Schizo from the ICSS continuity, I will be keeping Jackson with him. Of course, this will mean redefining his purpose in relation to Schizo, in addition to a lot of things. I'll be keeping his wrist computer as well.

    Name: Brendan
    Age: 17
    Pokemon:
    Gallade (♂)
    Kabutops (♂)
    Scizor (♂)
    Gardevoir (♀)
    Hometown: Goldenrod City

    Appearance:
Brendan is 5'8", with brown curly hair, but because it is cut short it looks straight. He has brown eyes, a white complexion, and a nose that is slightly wide.
His clothes look rather expensive, because they are. His previous, luxurious life allowed him to afford that kind of clothing. For the most part, he wears black and red clothes. He wears black skinny jeans and a red top, a thick black jacket, red and black sneakers, and a black fedora with a red band.

Bio/History: Brendan was born and raised in Goldenrod, and was quite wealthy, hence the clothes. Even though they seem to make him a viable target for thugs and such, he will be hard pressed to relinquish them. Some call him big-headed, but this isn't really true, even if he can't prove it often. His parents were in the trade of trainer items, namely Pokeballs. As such, Brendan feels a kind of connection to the common tool, seeing them as incredibly valuable items despite their actual worth. Because of his parents' involvement with the distribution of Pokeballs they thought it best to give Brendan a Pokemon so that he could understand the value of both it and the ball in which he would keep it. This Pokemon was a Chikorita. A year later, he attended a bug-catching contest with his parents, and with their help, he was able to catch a Scyther, just like his father had.

On his fifth birthday, Brendan's parents were called away to Saffron city and so to make it up to their son, they took him along and celebrated his birthday in Pewter City. There, he was given the gift of a Kabuto, fresh from the fossil. Later that very year, his parents were called away yet again, this time returning with a newly caught Sneasel, again just like his father had. Neither of his parents thought it was necessarily bad to give a young child as many as four Pokemon, since they believed that the simple use of a Pokeball would make them easy to manage. It certainly worked for them. In fact, they saw it fit to let Brendan design a Pokeball, and have several of them made, just for their son. Given their own luxurious lifestyle, the Pokeballs were simply customised Luxury balls, called Night balls. Brendan received six, which practically said 'catch two more Pokemon' to him.

And catch them he did. From his apartment window he spotted a group of Ralts in the grass outside of Goldenrod. They were a rare Pokemon altogether, so he went outside by himself and, using the Night balls, caught two of them: a male and a female. He had barely made it back inside to tell his parents the good news when The Change occurred. Brendan was still only five at this point, so the event was very stressful for him. He, his parents and all of their Pokemon had survived, it seemed, but with the destruction of so much of the world around them his parents' source of income would plummet. They tried to do as much business as they could from home, and for several years they managed to keep bread on the table. One day, when Brendan was fifteen, they left for what was intentionally a quick trip to Hoenn to arrange a proper business deal in person, but ended up stuck in the country. Unable to return, they communicated to Brendan and sent him small funds through mail. During this time, all of his Pokemon achieved their final stages of evolution.

Two months ago, Brendan received a letter from his cousin in Sinnoh, requesting the custody of his Meganium. This was because, in Pastoria city, a food produce centre was being opened to feed a decent portion of Sinnoh, and every Meganium was needed. Since Meganiums had the ability to restore plant life to full health with their breaths, they were sorely needed to support the crop growth at the produce centre. As well as feeding people, the vegetation also fed other Pokemon who were raised as a source of meat. Brendan sent his Meganium, and since his Weavile had become sick, he sent her over as well to be cared for in Sinnoh.

Other Weapons: He keeps a large hunting knife in a sheath strapped to his left shoulder, hidden underneath his jacket. It is for this reason that he always wears a jacket, no matter the heat.

Other: Brendan is young and his life has been very easy due to him living alone but for his Pokemon, in the ghost of luxury. He has not lived a sheltered existence, however. Goldenrod dropped to a terrible state after The Change, so Brendan was exposed to all sorts of violence that helped him understand the danger of the world around them. He is mature and resourceful, and has learned to be brave in the face of danger.

I was eager to join Pokemon: The Change ever since I read the OP. The setting, the complication, everything was just such a great conception of the brightly coloured, smiley-faced kiddie world of Pokemon. Brendan's sheet was accepted right off the bat, and I was right on time because the RP closed up to any new characters right as I was approved. Combat I thought would be unchallenging, since instahitting/killing enemies (barring PCs and NPCs) was allowed. Later, I found it made sense to base the RP on story writing, not gameplay. It's fun, too.

The GM at the time, Tetsuya became inactive, leaving the players without a GM. We liked it so much that we kept going, should Tets return. After a while, we players put our heads together and elected two new GMs, being me and Preach. Not to pat myself on the back but we've held up the roleplay for a very long time and have provided a good experience for all of the players. Tetsuya even returned and became a player. Since then we've been one big happy family.

I enjoy playing as Brendan because I wanted to explore my own conception of how Pokemon would exist in a realistic world. I still enjoy writing from his perspective.

Inspiration: Brendan is based on me. I know it's a bit narcissistic to do that but I thought it would be a good idea. His bio/history has nothing to do with my life, it's just that he is pretty much me in a very different situation. His Pokemon are based off my most cherished group of Pokemon, and I think I've explained their presence well. In all honestly, he wasn't very well thought-out, but after a time I have made tweaks to him as a character that allow him to make more sense. All in all, he's now an interesting character due to being 1: the youngest out of the lot and 2: a real fish out of water. Everyone else is a rugged, experienced Pokemon trainer/hunter/awesome person and Brendan's just a formerly rich kid with some strong Pokemon.

    Name: Claire
    Age: 17
    Pokemon:
    Ralts (♂)
    Hometown: Goldenrod City
    Appearance:
    Spoiler: Picture

Claire is 5'4" tall, and has long blonde hair that curves in under her chin. Her skin is untanned from all the time she spends indoors, and her eyes are dark green. She wears a faded nurse dress which has a skirt that comes down low past her knees, rather than the shorter ones that billow wide around the thighs.
Bio/History: Claire grew up with Brendan in Goldenrod, and since they were the only two left in the city in the same age bracket, they were close. She often got to see the more modest side of Brendan that most others completely overlook, and being his friend meant she often got to take one of his Pokemon wither her when the nights got dangerous, since she didn't have any Pokemon of her own.

Claire is a Pokemon nurse, probably the only nurse in Johto who isn't in the Joy family. Nurse Joy had to leave Goldenrod, and Claire stepped up to become the next nurse, having helped out in the centre for the past few years to fill in the years. This proved harder than it seemed, because she had to take up preliminary mathematics and biology courses to learn everything necessary, and she failed the final test three times before she got it right. When she did, she officially became Nurse Claire.
From then on for the next few years, things became repetitive: heal people's Pokemon, tell them to take potions with them, and offer the odd antidote. She sometimes performed actual surgical operations, but nothing too important.
But then the nameless machine that lived behind the counter and healed Pokemon broke. Claire's job became much harder for the next two months. She had to use medicines (that she had to beg people to make for her, because Goldenrod received no supplies) and time-consuming operations without help to heal Pokemon, meaning that the centre was crowded to a migraine-inducing cluster-fuck.
That went on for two months, until Brendan donated a sum that finally allowed her to hire someone to fix the machine. Once that was done, the centre became less crowded to the point of almost empty, leaving Claire to rest herself and relieve her headaches. Brendan left for Ecruteak that same night, just before the usual swarm of feral Pokemon from Ilex forest swept into the city. It was this night that she also met her Ralts, her first Pokemon. Apparently, a bunch of Pokemon must have dog-piled against the wall of her home while she was in the centre, the force of which pushed just one straight through the wall: a Ralts.
Recovered in the morning, Claire found the Ralts to be seemingly mute in addition to non-feral. It would do nothing but sit perfectly still on the counter and make no sound whatsoever until it needed to be fed or put to bed. Upon Reckless's arrival to the Goldenrod centre, it assisted with Willow's operation by using pain split to partially heal her wounded leg, causing large bruises to appear on his own leg. Apart from that, he seems to appear in unlikely places to Claire with no indication as to how he actually got there, like on the high counter or between storeys of the Pokemon Centre.
On the night of Reckless's arrival, Claire, her Ralts, and Reckless's Haunter operated on his Fearow's leg, which proved to be a quick operation due to the assistance she received from her Pokemon. The next day, she performed a second operation on Willow's leg, wherein she cut a leg off a dead Skarmory and attached it to Willow's stump. This proved to be stressful, but successful, and it gave her something to share with Reckless, who was making odd impressions in the centre.
    Other Weapons: None.
Other: While she loves her Ralts very much, Claire has always wanted a Sneasel for company. Her experiences with Reckless have been... trying. While Reckless has proven himself socially abrasive from time to time, Claire has had lasting glimpses of his more friendly side, and considers him a friendly acquaintance after the two days she has known him.

Claire was in The Change ever since Brendan's second post, but she wasn't properly fleshed out until CartelSaide brought his character to Goldenrod. Reckless only ever interacts with his Pokemon and Claire, meaning that she got and lot of attention while he was around. It was good because I was planning to reveal so much about her through a short segment of interaction between her and Brendan, which in hindsight would have appeared rushed and would probably have required a massive post, which aren't always that good when it's just idle chatter to justify their relationship and such.

I decided to make her a sheet a while ago, and I made it a while ago; I just forgot to put it here. She won't be joining the cast of players in their quest to get to the bottom of things, but until then I'm still making good use of her as a character and not just an NPC placeholder for the nurse of Goldenrod.

Inspiration: Claire actually doesn't have an inspirational source. I just made up another character to be the nurse in Goldenrod, but due to the presence of CartelSaide, I ended up characterising her far more than I thought I would.

    Name: Angelina
    Age: 30
    Pokemon:
    Sneasel (♀)
    Shellder (♂)
    Houndour (♂)
    Misdreavus (♀)
    Koffing (♂)
    Gastly (♀)
    Hometown: Ecruteak City
    Appearance:
    Spoiler: Large picture

Angelina owes her exceptionally pale skin and bright pink eyes to her albinism. She chooses to dye her hair black to look normal at first glance and protect her skin, which burns easily.

Bio/History: Angelina's childhood was happy and healthy, for the most part. Her mother was albino and this was passed down to Angelina. Later in life she developed a strong attachment to Gothic style and let it completely absorb her throughout her teenage years. The first and only Pokemon she caught during that period at all was a Sneasel, who had silver coloured growths on her forehead and chest, rather than gold. This Sneasel became something close to a living teddy bear, because during the night she slept wrapped in Angelina's arms. She also had the cheeky habit of shocking her awake with a blast of cold air. She was even able to challenge the Ecruteak gym and win the Fog badge from Morty. This was the best part of her life, but like with everyone alive at this point, The Change had some changes to make.

Angelina thought that the blast of white light that brought the world to its knees was a flash of lightning at first, but when the light lingered and grew, she knew something wasn't right. When a fierce wind rocked her house, she grabbed Sneasel and dove under her bed and waited for it to end. It didn't. With her eyes clamped shut and with a deafening roar whipping past the house, she couldn't tell just what was happening. But she could hear the wind become louder and the see the light intensify through her eyelids. The very walls of her house were tearing apart. After she realised this, she blacked out.

She woke up to darkness. Her entire house had been levelled by The Change but for a few foot-high pieces of wall, and a host of planks and bricks lying about. When she found her parents lying dead under a piece of roofing, their Shellder and Houndour sniffing at their bodies, something snapped in Angelina's brain. Completely overcome by grief she couldn't do anything but fall to her knees and wail from the sheer anguish she was suffering, for hours on end.

This attracted the attention of a Misdreavus. Naturally, they were drawn to negative emotions like fear and anguish, and an entire town of grieving souls looked like a veritable buffet for the Pokemon. Hundreds descended upon the town like vultures. When one found Angelina kneeling over her parents, she found herself unable to leave the girl for the sheer amount of sadness, fear and grief she produced. She even perched herself on Angelina's shoulder without being noticed. Angelina however thought that it was Sneasel on her shoulder and pulled her into a hug. The Misdreavus squirmed and wriggled but couldn't escape Angelina's grip. She eventually screeched at the girl to attract her attention.

Angelina was shocked when she looked down at the ghost in her arms and let go that instant. The ghost didn't leave, since the girl could still be of huge benefit, and neither did Angelina, because something else was growing in her mind. Suddenly possessed by the urge to take back from the world, she pulled Sneasel's Pokeball out of her pocket and used it to catch the Misdreavus. Even as she fought to escape the Pokeball, Angelina held it shut with her hands until the ghost finally gave up and resigned to her capture. The event worked to stir Angelina out of her grief, for a little while. She collected herself as much as she could. She searched the ruins of her house for anything that she could take with her, like clothes and survival items. She had found most of her own clothes and her dad's butane lighter when she stumbled upon a gift-wrapped box. Tearing it open, she found six unique Pokeballs inside — black with white bands and buttons — and a note congratulating Angelina on her seventeenth birthday she had yet to even celebrate. She spent the next hour racked with uncontrollable sobbing and meaningless guilt.

Seeing that her trainer would not recover for some time, Sneasel rounded up Shellder and Houndour and with their help, tried to make Angelina as comfortable as possible. They cleared her bed, started a small fire and found some food for her to eat. During the night, Misdreavus broke out of the Pokeball, but rather than leave she stayed snuggled up with the girl who still wept for her family.

The next twelve years would have been impossible for Angelina if not for her Pokemon. She could not defend herself and so her Pokemon fought on her behalf, oftentimes killing the opposition, be it feral Pokemon or aggressive human. Angelina recovered from her grief, but something remained changed about her. She had delved into her Gothic nature and developed a new taste for dark, sinister things, and a twisted sense of humour that occasionally had her find things as dark as death itself to be funny in some circumstances. She moved her Pokemon into her new dark Pokeballs, which she named Monochrome balls not only for their appearance but for how she felt when she found them. She had two spare.

Unable to cope with living in Ecruteak city alone she headed south to Goldenrod and took the train to Saffron. She spent a lot of time in a dark, abandoned factory warehouse full of old appliances. It was there she met a skittish scientist rummaging around in the appliances, flanked by an excited-looking Rotom that kept badgering its trainer about all the appliances lying around. She approached him, nearly scaring him to death in the process, and introduced herself. Stuttering, the man introduced himself as Doctor Jaune before promptly stepping on a Pokedex and offering it to Angelina as a gift. Laughing and taking it, she decided to stick with Jaune, although he had found the appliance he needed and hurried back to his home, but not before inviting Angelina over for a later date.

Once he had left, Angelina kept exploring the warehouse. There she happened upon a leaking gas pipe and turned it off. That very instant she was attacked by a Gastly and a Koffing at the same time. In her panic she ordered Houndour to use flamethrower, which was a terrible decision — the air was full of flammable gas, even if diluted and weak. As the air combusted into a small fireball, the flames reached the attacking Pokemon and set them both alight. They sustained their fires, seemingly without being injured, and they continued to fight with fire-based attacks. Angelina's Pokemon held off the attackers for as long as they could, but eventually Angelina decided that they would make fine additions to her team. Using the last two Monochrome balls, she captured the Gastly and Koffing, and promptly left the building. She became close with the Doctor, and after discovering that he studied form changes in Pokemon, she showed him her new Pokemon and their flammable qualities. Astounded, he immediately commenced research on the poison-types.

Other Weapons: Angelina carries a large, black umbrella to keep her skin safe from the sun. The tip is sharpened to a knife-like point, but there is also a long, thin blade hidden in the shaft which can be pulled out by the handle.
Other: Gastly and Koffing's ability to catch fire is a unique one that Angelina has figured out how to control. Koffing naturally produces flammable gas, but Gastly was born in it, making it part of her chemical makeup. They can remain on fire for about twenty minutes before their fuel is depleted and they become too tired to battle, necessitating rest. Burning is easy for Gastly because it requires no effort from her. For Koffing, he has to regulate the expulsion of gas in order to avoid exploding.

Angelina was a character I had submitted for two Pokemon roleplays on this site, and neither of them used this backstory. This was developed in case a sequel roleplay to The Change was every started. Angelina would be part of a rotating town watch in Opelicid city, in Unova. A real shame that never came to pass, but that's the unfortunate truth of the matter.

Inspiration: Again, no inspiration for this one. Her character just sorta appeared when I was making up a new character for The Kanto Crisis. I looked up the picture which helped me finalise her appearance, but that's it.

    UserName: Potatrobot
    Player Name: Huntsman
Player appearance: A 38 year old man in a suit of black and brown leather armour, including boots and gloves, with a grey trench coat over the top. The back of the trench coat is adorned by a large emblem of a huntsman spider, facing down, with all of its legs splayed wide. He wears a black, wide-rimmed hat with a brown band and the same emblem stitched onto the side. The hat overshadows fierce, brown eyes and a short coat of golden-brown facial hair. Underneath the outfit lies a tapestry of aggressively built muscles, giving him a massive frame.

Player weapon: Revolver shotgun. A double-barrel shotgun loaded with technological modifications and holy magic. Kitted out with multiple cylinders of varying ammo types, multiple modes of firing, and blessed with magic that ensures that it will never run out of ammo, it is the ultimate weapon of Huntsman's design.
Player weapon power: Hallowed cylinder. The ammo cylinders on the weapon will never run dry. Even if removed and tipped over, bullets will continue to spill out.
Player Power: Huntsman can control pieces of his equipment without directly interfacing with it.
Player Equipment: Huntsman wears a set of goggles with four interchangeable lenses on each side. They give him an eight-eyed visage when they are equipped, and each pair of lenses provides a different special effect. One allows him to see through the disguises of unholy creatures, one allows him to see through obstacles, one allows him to see what is directly behind him, while another allows him to see how physically injured somebody is, be it himself or someone else. Attached to the back of his armour is a metal plate which houses eight long, thin, articulate metal legs. Most of the time they are folded up flush against his back, acting as a holster for his shotgun. They have a range of uses such as allowing Huntsman to traverse difficult terrain quickly and easily, scale walls and ceilings, prevent fall damage and even help him fight. Due to a holy spell that Huntsman cast on them, he can control them with his own will.
    Player Class: Hunter

    Spoiler: Old Sheet

Huntsman was fun to play as. He was my character for Deadmatch 2. Azazeal recruited me to help rid the game of two demon characters who had teamed up and were eliminating the single contestants. We did just that, but then we had to turn on each other (Jac was also in our little team). Huntsman didn't win, but I still think he's awesome. I really wish I could draw him, though.

Ever since I saw the movie Inception, I realised that Inception Cylinder is a terrible name for a cylinder with infinite ammo.

Inspiration: Like Jackson was made with Superman's face in mind, Huntsman came about with Chuck Norris's in mind. I also had his hat in mind. His leather armour was inspired by the Reinforced Leather Armour found in Fallout New Vegas.

Since I have added more to this character, there are more sources of inspiration. His metal spider legs are an embodiment of Samuel D. McSanders' magic umbrella, which you can find on page 3. It is also very similar to Invader Zim's pak legs. The multi-lensed goggles were inspired by the spectacles in National Treasure, as each lens and combination thereof allows Mason Nicolas Cage to read different hidden messages on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Just writing that made me realise how insane that movie is.

Fond memories of this guy. Did the world he came from ever get fleshed out?
A little bit, actually. In his final posts I paid mention to the fact that he isn't alone, but rather part of a band of hunters, all named after spiders, each with their own unique weapon. From Huntsman's final post:

He thought of the other hunters of the village he was tasked to protect. Black Widow, Wolf, Red Back, Trapdoor, Tarantula, and Funnelweb. How would they have fared in the same situation? Wolf was absolutely terrifying when it came to his poisonous daggers and rocket crossbow, and Black Widow had a machine pistol that fired bullets that imploded on impact. She could tear open the hide of a dragon, while Huntsman's metal-and-fire revolver shotgun could barely even chip away at it.

When Huntsman gets mind-wiped and spots Seras and Shrk'Jaar, he compares them to creatures that exist in his own world. I quote:

The first one looked like a bug, if bugs could be steeped in dark magic and commanded to roam the earth with spite, and the other looked like a lizard, if they could also be altered the same way as the bug. But both were of a fearsome species. He had seen giant stag beetles overturn boulders that would crush moving targets with undying accuracy, and horrible dragons that could be mistaken for mountains while they slept.

So Huntsman lives in a kind of warped fantasy realm, still in use of simple villages but also of more advanced weaponry.

So I've edited the sheet to give this guy the upgrade he'll need for this year's Deadmatch (which I hope Jac and Azazeal will also join). I think it also carries on well from the events of the last one he participated in, so like he vowed never to be bested by demons or the like again and entered a period of incredible self improvement. In these eight years he upgraded his shotgun, built new gadgets for himself (and used vague holy magic to enchant them) and greatly increased his strength and fighting abilities. This should make for more interesting combat than in Deadmatch 2 where he only had the gun and even then it was pretty limited. I want to ramp up his power factor to write some serious combat posts.
