We are a beautiful race that lives in a beautiful city. A city so grand that the great sea god himself stole it from the land and buried it in the deepest pit of his ocean; the Mariana Trench. He made us to fill the city that he had taken from the land-walkers. Or more commonly known to you as the humans. Since he adored how the land walkers treated the city before, he made a new race that is both human and sea creature to care for his precious prize. We are called the Mer and our city we protect is called Atlantis.
And so we have protected this grand city as we have been assigned and in return we have flourished from the great treasures it provides. From magnificent wealth, plentiful food, rich culture, and large families. Unfortunately, pleasure has let time slip through our fingers. No longer is the world as it once was. The great sea god we once cherished has been dead for centuries. Destroyed by the corruption of the new land walkers. No longer do we have his protection and blessing. Our city is being ruled by two leaders who were once one. Exiles are banding together to steal our riches, while our leaders fight over power. The great race of beauty is about to split.
But the worst part is...Our city is rising.
~~~~
Some important info to know:Spoiler: The Mer
The Mer were made by the great sea god Thaumas as a last effort to show his power before his throne was taken by the new sea god Neptune. He stole the beautiful city of Atlantis from the landwalkers and put in it a beautiful race to take care of the city. This new race was an image of everything he thought was beautiful about his sea kingdom along with the needed elements to run and protect his prize. These creatures he made had the upper body of only the most extravagant of the landwalkers, and a lower body being a long tail with the movements of dolphins and whales, but with the looks of fish. Adjustments like four gills on both sides of their necks, a little bit of webbing between their fingers, cat-like pupils, and sharpened teeth were just finishing touches to the appearance of these wonderful creatures.
After determining their looks, he gave them even more amazing abilities. Each of the Mer had elevated strength, the maids that of about five landwalker males and the men that of nearly ten in some rare situations. Next he gave them extended lives. The maids could live till usually around 200 years of age on average and matured into woman at around 25 years. The men lived on average a bit longer till about 250 years of age with a maturing age of usually 30 years old. Next he gave them a few more little things like increased water agility, night vision, and high immunity.
But the greatest gift he gave was called magic in several situations. This magic lays like a aura over all of the Mer race whether they want it or not. Some say it is even His very aura. It gives each of them an instinct to know whether another Mer near is in danger of some sort. It fuels a connection between the Mer that drives an underlying care for one another, especially their young. It provides them with an instinctive knowledge of which of them should be their next leader. But it most prominent appearance is when it gives them enhanced or special abilities. Not all of the kind have them, but they can be tricky to find when some of them do. It is rumored that they are automatically given to all the leaders, but not all the leaders have shown evidence of having them.
And with this, he created the Mer in their physical form. He taught the first few the ways of surviving in the ocean and keeping the city. He taught them
culture and love for one another and the city as a whole. Marriage and family
are highly thought upon. Betraying either is not only a dishonor, but a crime. Enforced by the monarch and usually ending up in banishment. Banishment is considered the worst punishment by many of the race, because of how closely they are connected to each other.
Seeing that the lessons were taught, Thaumas appointed the first royalty of the race, a maid named Gilshaka. He told her personally all the secrets of the city and how to rule it to prosperity. He also told her that she must train the next leader when they appeared, so that they would be ready when she passed. She trained the next leader and when she died, she was buried in special tomb with a statue replica of her, guarding her grave with her famous harpoon in its hands. This tomb became known as the Monarch Stone and all leaders of the race are buried there in the same way as the first queen, with their signature weapons held in their statues' hands. A set of special guards and caretakers work at the tomb. Though one thief is known in history to have slipped passed them and stolen the Great Trident from a previous leader's grave. He was caught and banished, but the trident was never found.
Seeing that he made a race of utter beauty, he placed the city in the deepest
trench of the ocean for protection and than left it to deal with itself.
The Mer are much the same as they were once at the beginning; strong,playful,
enchanting, and exotic. The events of recent have caused a bit of a stirring.
Gathered exiles lay attacks against the city. The first duo rulers in centuries are splitting the underwater kingdom in two and many of their subjects are having to choose sides reluctantly. The death of their god has cast sorrow across their race; some finding it hard to believe, while others are beginning to think he never existed. The rising of the city is causing a sense of panic all around and there is little they can do to stop it. Will they be able to survive if it reaches the surface?
Spoiler: Extra info:These are just a couple things I wasn't able to fit in the
above description:
1. There are more maids then men. Like a 2 maids to 1 man ratio. This is why
mermaids are more common than mermen.
2. Only the Exiles have met humans when we start the story.
3. When the Mer step completely out of water, they turn into humans. Legs and
everything. But their lower body hurts like hell each time they step and they
are usually very clumsy trying to figure out how to use their legs. Also, their skin dehydrates and shrivels up if they are not back in water within half a day. Their entire body has to be submerged, not just one part.
4. The Mer speak their own language called Siren. They are actually the ones who taught it to the Sirens. It is very tempting, alluring, and during usual talk is sung to each other. We will write in English, but unless your character has learned the language from a human, they will not be able to understand human talk. Even if it is English the human speaks.
5. Security has tightened a lot at the Monarch Stone sense the thief stole the Great Trident. So, it will be highly unlikely that the weapons will be able to be stolen from again. They will kill your character if they have too, but if they capture them, it is pretty much automatic banishment. It is considered a high honor for their families to guard at the Monarch Stone.
6. The "maturing" age is like when they finish puberty and are fully grown. Of course, they look beautiful even during puberty. The children are considered the most marvelous sights because of their purity and innocence, and are highly cared for by the race.
7. Yes, it is common for them to go around without any clothing. Though it is
not thought down upon if they were garments of any type. All guards are required to wear at least a breastplate with the city insignia while on duty.
8. A leader's word is law. What the king or queen says goes. Unless that is if your character wants to be a lawbreaker. :3
9. For further description on the leader aura, it is felt when one Mer is around a leader or leader-to-be. It is kinda like you feel drawn to follow them. Like you just know that they would be a great leader. In the case of the Twin leaders now, together they hold that aura. So, if they are separated they only have half that aura. They also each only know half of the secrets of the city. There can be a to-be leader. I just must accept your character into that position first.
10. As for colorations and such. I do not mind exotic colors. My very queen has bright blue hair. Just make a beautiful collaboration and include at least the following in your description; hair description(color and style), eye color, skin color (this must be a normal skin color, but a little bit of color tint is allowed where the tail meets below the navel), any special tattoos and/or scars, and tail description (length, color, tail-fin spread-span, and any unique qualities). Of course, you can always add more, but above is all I require. Check my bios for examples.
11. The Mer do not have to be vegetarians, but they usually are. Since, in the city it is illegal to kill another creature, most grow up not wanting to kill the different creatures that they grew up with. As for drinking water, their gills extract most of the the H2O they need from the saltwater along with their oxygen. Though, their systems are highly tolerant to drinking saltwater.
12. The Mer are generally very loyal to relationships and marriage. The only way to change a relationship is by having being widowed or finding your true mate. A Mer will know its true mate because the magic in their blood makes them feel an amazing height of emotional love and completion when near them. Though this only comes when being very close to that mate, so a lot of the time Mer mistake this experience with others since they don't ever know the feeling until it happens the first time. Same sex love is allowed, but not as true mates. I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be a hypocrite, it just makes more sense. These are creatures that are supposed to be able to have children, so it wouldn't be right if the magic connection told them otherwise.
If you have read the entire description please put "toys for tots" under your
bios with anything else I ask you to put.
Spoiler: The Exiles
The Exiles are a group of Mer that were banned from the city and have joined together to strike a war against the ridiculous monarchy that has made it easier and easier to find reasons to banish their civilians. This group's general purpose is to take over Atlantis's government and start a new one where the people rule it rather than a leader. They believe that the punishments should be more justified than banishment and laws should be rewritten. Some are driven by the want to be able to be with their families again. These Mer are trained vigorously and work in groups on specialized attacks against the city. There is though a single leader of the Exiles who was chosen by the group when it formed in the beginning. He is known as the Alpha as his second in command is known as the Omega. Below them are captains and base soldiers. Captains are responsible for their soldiers. There are a couple medics, though not many. Their base is a large glowworm cave located down a lightless tunnel about three miles from the city. The tunnel entrance is small and hidden, so it has been undiscovered by the city citizens. This base may have to be abandoned in the story seeing as the city is rising.
Spoiler: Atlantis
Atlantis has always been known as one of the most grand and beautiful cities to have ever been made. It was for that very reason that it was the one stolen from the humans by Thaumas. He needed to make an impact on the new gods for taking over his kingdom. He used a unbelievable tsunami to sweep the entire city from land and into his grasp. Once he had it to himself, he searched every one of its nooks and crannies. He memorized the architecture in his head and placed blessings upon it that would make it available as an eternal underwater city. Then he proceeded to take it away to the deepest spot of his ocean; the Mariana Trench. He used his very self to root the city at the bottom of the ocean, so it wouldn't be able to be stolen from him without he being aware. Then he proceeded to put on blessings of protection and peace around the city, so that sea creatures of all kinds would feel welcomed into the city. One of the laws is while in the city, one creature may not kill another creature. He then proceeded when he was finished to place a new race in the city to protect and take care of
it. In this race he threaded the magic of his aura and of the city into the fabric of their lives so that they may forever be connected to the city in ways to massive to imagine. Seeing everything was perfect, he left.
Some major parts of the city include the Coral Castle; home of the royalty and their family. It stands in the middle of the city and is covered by many
different sorts of coral on nearly every surface outside the castle. It has
many, many rooms of all different purposes and some of no purpose. A set of
secret dungeons and steam geysers exist underneath. The next markable place is the Monarch Stone. It a cemetery for all deceased leaders and it sits about two miles from the castle, near Market Square. Market Square is a grand place where the Mer can come to buy nearly anything they may need or want. Though it is very crowded, loud, and hard to maneuver. Everything is private business, but a tax is enforced on products. A thirty foot wall surrounds the entire city and is guarded vigorously by royalty military. Light is provided by gathered glowworms. But floors must be cleaned regularly of their feces. Any work requiring high temperature has to be done at a geyser field outside city, due to no fire.
![]()
Personality:
Laria has an exotic beauty to her ways. She's is mix of the alluring Mariana Temptress and the powerful Queen of Atlantis. At one time she can catch your attention so much you are nearly ignorant of everything else and at another she can be too daunting to approach. Her mood is unbreakably calm when she is on the path to get what she wants. Though unfortunately, she is a slave to her curiosity and it often will control her actions. In this way, she is more likely to allow rules to be bent in order to gain what she wants. She is often commented much more immature or vain than her twin, though her pride refuses to let her believe this. When she has lost interest in someone or believes they are of no use, she tends to ignore them. She is more accepting of maids then men, and will usually have maids as her guards.
Bio:
Laria and her twin brother were born due to an affair between two married Mer who thought each other as true mates. But unfortunately, a series of tests proved this wrong and they were both banished after their mother gave birth. They were taken in by a small temple near the edge of the noble parts of town. The two of them were unbelievably close during their childhood years, barely able to separate for too long without assuming the other was in some disaster. What one quality one didn't have, the other made up for. Laria, curious since her birth, tended to get in sticky situations with the nuns and priests of the temple. She would constantly disappear at random times and cause a wide search for her sake. Though she always returned when she began to miss her brother.
When they reached the age of fifteen, their aura of leadership appeared around them. Immediately, people began to treat them differently. Many would stop and smile or bow their heads when they passed and a few even began to give them gifts. This was how Laria received her bejeweled belt and special swords. Personally, she loved the attention and often coaxed her patrons for more with her inexperienced abilities. They were taken to the Coral Palace to be trained by the King on how to be the next monarchs. He was a firm, straight-forward man with a large trident he used as his weapon. She didn't in particularly care for him too much, but listened nonetheless, since she was interested in the learning how to be a leader. He tried to help her with controlling her voice, but it was ultimately his wife that taught her how to use it. She was a temptress who had a similar magic as Laria that was directed through her eyes, instead of her voice. The young to-be queen actually learned that it was this element that got the King to want his wife, since he had a weakness for pleasure.
Surprisingly soon after they both fully matured, the King died on a shark hunt and was buried at the Monarch Stone. His widowed wife moved out of the castle to start a new life and ended up finding her true mate not long after. Before he died though, on his deathbed, he told them each a secret of the city to keep to themselves. Laria was told about a secret geyser place under the castle. While her brother was told of private dungeons, though Laria does not know this. Together, for years they ruled together as the Twin Monarchs of Atlantis. The city was prosperous. But unfortunately not for long. On a peaceful day, for Atlantis keeps track of time despite no sunlight, the entire city jolted tremendously. When the city was examined, a large crack encircled the entire city. This caused a state of panic throughout the city because it could only mean one thing.
Thaumas was dead.
All Mer know how he used part of himself to mold the city to the bottom of the ocean. For the crack to have happened, he must be dead. The fright overcame the city nearly over night and many were afraid of what unknown thing could happen now that they were unprotected. People started to commit crimes like hunting in the city or fighting over little things to make sure they would have the resources to survive. The twins struggled to control and calm the city, all the while trying to devise ways to solve the problem. This is where they both began to have opposing views. Seeing the city at a struggle, the Exiles began to attack, hoping this would be the chance to win over the city. This caused varied approaches from the sister and brother as well. But the last straw would have to be when the thief stole the Great Trident. This is because in a way, it was partially both on their faults, but the they both argue over which was the most at fault. Even when they both caught the thief and banished him, their bond they had held for so long was already broken. They hated each other and fought over little things. It was after this that another jolt rocked the city. Again the city was examined, but this time they found that it had actually elevated a few centimeters. When checked the next day, they saw it raised a few more. Atlantis was rising.
Now it rises a few feet per day and is nearly a hundred feet above its original resting place.
There is a shark bite mark on his left shoulder, making it his weaker side. Weapons & Armour:
His trident and his net.
Spoiler: The Great Trident![]()
Personality:
Other than the thief of the Great Trident, Kilko is known for being conveniently inventive. Under pressure, he is extremely good at coming with solutions for problems that may have otherwise confused someone else. This is probably the main reason he was chosen as the Omega of the Exiles. Though, unfortunately when stuck to sit around for too long doing nothing, gets him anxious and edgy. His mind is somewhat always on alert and he has a slight case of OCD. When he gets frustrated, he's known to close out his mind to others and snap at them. He simply doesn't deal with bullshit well. His general goal in life is to get rid of the ridiculing Monarchy that rules over Atlantis.
Bio:
Kilko grew up in one of the poorer families of Atlantis. The ones who live near the wall near the simple houses that weren't uncommon to have two or three families. It was just his mother and him. His dad was banished for something he couldn't remember. He didn't have to worry too much about whether he was taken care of or not. Mer children could always receive what they needed as long as they asked. His mother worked her hardest to provide for him anyhow. In school, he would get in trouble for not sitting still and listening to the lesson. Sure, he understood well enough what they were talking about, but he just couldn't stand to stay there too long. As he grew older, he became fascinated by the royal military. He joined as soon as they let him and rose easily through the ranks. He found the thing he was meant for. It was while he was in the military, that he gained a bit of a competitive edge. He didn't like to be told he couldn't do something and would usually prove he could do that something. It was during one night he had gotten drunk with some of his buddies at a bar that one of these dares was made on him; to steal a weapon from the Monarch Stone. Everyone of sober thinking, knew it couldn't be done. But, riled up as he was, Kilko took the challenge and went off to steal the weapon. Perhaps , it was because tensions were so high and the city was in relative chaos over the big crack, that he was able to do it. Maybe it was due to his ability to come up with solutions quickly and his edginess. Whatever it was, he woke up with the Great Trident beside him on his bed the next morning. By that time, the weapon had already been reported missing and guards were swarming the city. Though he manage to use a secret passage way to get out of the city and take the trident to a hidden cave he used to play in when he was a child. When he returned to his house, the guards were already waiting for him due to a nice little tip from his friends the night before. He was immediately taken to the royal lead investigators. They managed to make him accidently slip with a confession, but unfortunately for them, he kept to himself where the weapon was. At the time, he didn't know why he just didn't admit it all. Maybe it was spite at his friend. Maybe it was guilt pulling at him. It might have been that he had heard about rumors of a group of banished who were out to strike back at the monarchy that had seemed to have no care of its people. Anyway around, when it came time for the trial with the royals, he was banished as expected. His last memory of the city is seeing his mom turn her head away crying. Ever since then, he has been with the Exiles. He helped with giving them military structure and order, and worked himself the ranks just like in the military. Now having become the Omega, his entire attention has turned to his duty now.
Other:
