The Steam of War
[Rated M for Violence, Gore, Language, and War Terror]
"Evil does what evil wants, but it is the will of men that decides how far evil will get."
At the turn of the 20th century the great powers of the world began a competitive arms race to build the biggest, the most destructive, and the largest armies to have ever been assembled. The new industrialized technologies being put into military practice, new war machines were being made and armies were forming. Although some nations built them in the sense of security, others constructed these massive forces for the sole purpose of world domination.
The Germanic race, the peoples of The United Prussian Empire, The German Empire, and The Habsburg Monarchy have been brainwashed by rising Germanic leaders. Van Buffler of Prussia, Lord Barrock of Habsburg, and Heimen Conveckler of Germany, three inspirationally great yet wicked leaders of prejudice have gained the support of the Germanic race and have convinced the people that they are the superior and in order to ensure the survival of their kind they must eliminate all other inferior races. In 1913 they united the three Germanic Empires into one sole union, The Germanic Powers. Their purpose, the supreme rule and domination of one perfect Germanic race. All other races considered to be inferior, deserving of nothing but utter annihilation. Germanic born Jews, Gypsies, Russian Slavs and other "inferior" races being expelled from Germanic territory or put into concentration camps. Great Britain and her allies, The Republic of France and United Netherlands, watched nervously as the Germanic Powers formed one of the largest armies the world had ever seen, their army consisted of some of the most devastating industrialized war machines; high sky vessels, industrialized war vehicles, new and improved automatic weaponry, and a devoted and loyally active military force of over ten million soldiers. The Germanic Powers had the dream of conquering the world for one race to rule, and they now had the power to do so.
The Great War came on March 13th 1919 when the combined military strengths of all three Germanic Powers invaded the Civil Polish States breaking all agreements made with The Russian Empire on not involving themselves with Polish affairs. The Russian Empire, also having a new and renovated industrialized military force responded with war. With the first Great Powers at war, it took only days for the rest of the world to be brought into this massive conflict.
The Greek League was invaded a day after the invasion of the Civil Polish States by The Germanic Powers. The Kingdom of Sicily, convinced by the Germanic Powers that a promising future would await them if they assisted the Germanic effort declare war on The Kingdom of Italy. The Ottoman Empire, with a history of war with the Russian Empire and seeing this growing war as an opportunity to claim all of the Northern Baltic States declared war on Russia. As well as that The Ottoman Empire launched a massive offensive against The Indian Republic and The British Colonies of Israel and Egypt. The Ottoman Empire, forming a non-aggressive war pact with The Germanic Powers, promised to allow the Germanic race to take Western Europe and most of Russia when the war was won. On March 15th The Spanish Empire, looking to swallow up British Africa as her own, joined The Ottoman Empire in declaring war against Great Britain, they too signing a non-aggressive war pact with the Germanic Powers. Later that day on March 15th the powers of Great Britain, the Republic of France, the Indian Republic, and United Netherlands formed the Allied Powers, war pacts being signed with The Kingdom of Italy, Russian Empire, and Greek League. By the morning of March 16th the Monarchy of Sweden, with family ties into the Monarchy Habsburg and a nation of Germanic People joined The Germanic Powers thus finally bringing the last great power of the world into war. The stage is set, the armies are massing, and The Great War of the new industrialized world has now begun.

This RP is heavily influenced by Steampunk, with all war machines being of steampunk design and style. Weapons, uniforms, and way of life also being influenced by steampunk style. Just because this RP is influenced by Steampunk does not mean this RP should be taken as a childish RP. This RP will hold and show the true natures of war, the millions of people dead, the torture and persecution of people, and the annihilation of innocent civilians. War is a horrible thing, and war is not censored so neither will be the realistic role play of war in this RP. Millions of people will die, blood will be spilt, cities will be destroyed, and this war will be real.
In this RP you will have the opportunity to be a part of one of the four Allied Powers: Great Britain, the Republic of France, United Netherlands, or the Indian Republic. Your service in these Nations can range from being a simple private on the front lines to being a high ranking commander having control over the actions of thousands of soldiers. I want female characters to be encourage to join but know that female characters will most likely not be a soldier on the front line. But instead female characters will be nurses, pilots of High Sky fleets, snipers, industrialized war machine commanders and other roles that women serve during war time. Any player can actually choose what part of the military they would wish to serve.
The objective of this RP is for you all, the players, to team up together using role-play and strategy to win the war against the Germanic Powers and the support Powers that threaten the Indian Republic and The British Colonies. Pretty much in basic terms, it is you guys versus me. But understand that I am not trying to win, that is not my goal as a GM. My goal as a GM is to dedicate myself to making this RP one of the best and most fun to play giving you all the perfect situations to developed your character and have a blast doing it. With the goal of overall winning the war I look for cooperation between all the players of this game to find ways to win this war and bring peace back to the world.
I encourage the use of violence in war scenes, war is bloody and should be portrayed that way. I encourage the use of cussing and swearing when it comes to dialogue, war brings out the toughest in all. I encourage the use of alcohol to cope with the pain of war, I encourage the use of tobacco when passing time in-between battles. I encourage the use of all things that war brings, pleasant or wicked war brings the worst out of all people and I intend on having that displayed in this RP. Be sure to remember the rules of the forum, I know war has rape and blatant torture but taking war violence to that level is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Otherwise know that this is a dark steampunk role-play, prepare yourselves.
Spoiler: Playable Factions
The Allied Powers
Great Britain: "God save the Queen"
Great Britain never wished for war, they sought for a peaceful resolution and in return she has had her colonies invaded and her allies threatened. Well, Great Britain and her great people have had enough and in this time of war they are more than ready to fight. Ever since the turn of the 20th Century the British Army has focused on revamping and improving its High Sky Fleet and now at the start of this great war they have one of the largest Sky Fleets and most skilled pilots in the world. Great Britain looks to dominate the air and drive back the foreign powers who threaten the existence of Great Britain. With her army organizing and her people loyal and morally ready for war Great Britain is prepared to win.
British Colonies of Egypt and Israel:
"For the Crown!"
The British Colonies of Egypt and Israel are not going to be fighting the Germanic Powers, but instead are faced with defending their land against an Ottoman invasion. The British forces stationed in these two colonies do not have the enough strength to defend and Great Britain has no way of transporting troops to her farther Mediterranean colonies. Great Britain has now gone to recruiting the local people loyal to the Crown in helping defend themselves. The Arabs of Israel and Egyptians are rising to the call, fighting the greater good British rule knowing that if the Ottomans do take over the free ruling republic in which they live under will be replaced by total Ottoman rule.
British Colonies of North Africa: "For the Crown!"
The British Colonies of North Africa are being threatened with a Spanish takeover, something Great Britain is not taking lightly. British forces, with the Atlantic ocean serving as a perfect transport route, are heading to North Africa to defend and possibly counter attack into Spanish territory. The local population of North Africa is doing what they can to serve, but the core of the fighting will come from British foreign forces who have sworn to protect Great Britain and all her colonies. They fight for the greater good of the Crown and will die for it.
The Republic of France: "Long live the French!"
The Republic of France has had its history of disputes with The German Empire but even after the union of the Germanic Powers, France never thought of the possibility of a Great War. But just because they didn't think it was possible that does not mean they didn't prepare for one just in case. In 1913 at the formation of the Germanic Powers and at the urgent request of Great Britain the Republic of France industrialized it's army, and at the right time too. The six years they had before the start of this Great War gave the Republic of France the needed time to change and rapidly improve its army. Even with a powerful army to back up its talk the Republic of France, like Great Britain, sought for peaceful resolution. Yet after the invasion of the Greek League by The Germanic Powers, the Republic of France saw that peaceful resolution was no longer possibly. Now with an amazing force of industrialized war machines and the support of their people the Republic of France goes to war.
United Netherlands: "For God and Country!"
The United Netherlands was never a nation of war, it was founded on peace, equality, and freedom to all. Their military size was small, only consisting of a few thousand volunteers. It wasn't until the forming of the Germanic Powers and the threatening violent beliefs of a one ruling Germanic race that forced the United Netherlands to form a military for security. With the assistance of Great Britain and the Republic of France the United Netherlands began their military progression in 1913, the same year France began theirs. Although the United Netherlands has the smallest army out of all the European powers, it has the most elite military machines. United Netherlands having some of the most technologically advance war machines it looks to dominate the war with firepower instead of manpower. The small nation was not one to go looking for war, but with war knocking on its doorstep and with the Monarchy of Sweden, The United Prussian Empire, and The German Empire threatening the existence of the Dutch people, United Netherlands is ready to bring death to those who challenge its survival.
The Indian Republic: "For the greater good of India!"
The Indian Republic was still a British Colony up until 1875 when out of the goodness of Great Britain, India was granted freedom under the terms of establishing a republic and keeping its current trade relations. The Indian Republic flourished from this independence and the freedom and equality it's republic was built off of. It's relationship with Great Britain and her allies has always been good, supporting Great Britain in all areas of conflicts. Now, with long time friends fighting a war in Europe and The Ottoman Empire invading, the Indian Republic is going to war. Lacking a proper and advance High Sky Fleet the Indian Republic has focused to manpower and war machines of land. With the British Colonies of Israel and Egypt under threat of an Ottoman takeover the Indian Republic is desperate to take the pressure of British colonies. With the world's second largest population and with the Indian people loyally following and willing to support the war effort the Indian Republic is ready to fight and die for the greater good of the country.
Spoiler: Joining The Military
Joining the Military
Each playable nation has three different branches of the military, each of them have the possibility of being joined. But keep in mind that each branch will greatly affect the part of war you will see and the fighting you will do. For example, Aerial soldiers will be fighting in the sky while infantry soldiers will be fighting on the ground.
High Sky Fleets: High Sky Fleets consist of aerial vessels in charge with fighting in and conquering the skies above. The aerial vessels are coal powered industrialized machines of advance engineering and technological achievement. These war machines have the fire power to level cities and ultimately tear apart terrain. They range in size from small one man piloting war machines, to large battle cruisers of the sky. Each nation has its own name for its organized High Sky Fleet.
Industrialized War Divisions: Industrialized war divisions are made up of war machines that are engineered for land combat. Industrialized war divisions work hand and in hand with Infantry regiments, but serve as the main fire power when it comes to land combat. Each and every industrialized war machine has its crew of a pilot and engineers that command and control it in combat. Some are much larger than others but all have its role in the war effort. Each nation has its name for its own Industrialized War Divisions.
Infantry Regiments: The core fighting force of each and every army. The soldiers of these regiments are fitted with the best steam powered rifles and automatic machine guns. This is where the battles will be fought and won and this is where the death of millions will come from.
Great Britain: The Royal Air Fleet. The British Clanker Divisions. The British Army.
The Republic of France: The French Air Army. The French Armored Divisions. The French Legion.
United Netherlands: The Air Fleet of Netherlands. The Jaeger Division. The Infantry of United Netherlands.
The Indian Republic: The Indian Air Fleet. (Very small fleet, limited space.) The Indian Clanker Division. The Republic Army of India.
Spoiler: Updated Rulesl
Rules:
So instead of just having a list of rules, I have decided to just explain the dos and don'ts in a paragraph so bear with me. Firstly I'll start with battles, when it comes to a fighting scene or a big battle scene then feel free to role-play killing people, having friends die, capturing an enemy, blah blah blah, pretty much anything really. The only thing you CANNOT role-play is a drastic change of position, such as saying you have broken through the line, or the enemy is retreating. You can push a few yards up, or in city combat possibly push the enemy out of a building or even a block. But when it comes to a large positional change between the armies, like a retreat, offensive strike, broken line, something like that then it is me who will be doing that. That stuff is left up for me. But during battles, when two armies are initially clashing, you are free to role-play the way you fight, how you fight, and what happens while you fight however you want.. But beware, extreme unrealistic behavior like charging a trench line will most likely get you killed. Now let's speak about dying. It is very well possible for your character to die, if so you can re-app and your dead character will go into the dead pile. But don't think I am just going to be killing anybody for any reason. Reasons like, not retreating when a retreat is ordered, charging a trench line, doing unrealistic things, and stuff like that will get you killed. Now regarding the start of the RP and how to post. Well at the start of the RP all the movements done are just so far military movements. Conflict has not yet broken out, so I expect your first post to be about your character preparing their gear, marching out, getting to know other soldiers, yada yada yada. Now it is important you keep an eye on the military maps and where you are stationed and or are moving too. Because that is the scenery and landscape that you will be role-playing in. So as for the Indian border, well as you can see it is mostly a desert with mountains. So role-play yourself according in that area and terrain. Including heat, dry winds, thirst, ect... Along Netherlands you can see its green, river, mountain, woods, stuff like that so role-play your character in that type of terrain. It is not my job to present individual scenes for your character to role-play in, although I might. But instead it is my job to present large scale scenes where multiple characters can take part in with yourself individually and creatively crafting your own scenes of war fare that help develop and build your character. Respect other people, include lots of blood in your scenes for it is war after all. Respect my decisions and what I choose to do, and most of all have fun and enjoy yourselves! LETS GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD!!!
Spoiler: Technology Level. Sky Fleets
Sky Fleets
There are 4 different types of air ships. Each of them can be designed specifically different by players who are ship captains or higher but they must stay within the range of their ship type.
Cruisers
Between 150 - 180 feet long, the smaller it is the faster it goes and the quicker it can maneuver. Air Cruisers have smaller yet faster firing turrets usually towards the rear and the nose of the ships, with machine gun nests all along the sides. Air Cruisers are coal powered with four stocks in the middle of the ship, electrical tanks help keep these ships in the sky longer. Cruisers main goal is to defend the larger warships from plane attacks and destroyers with their ability to move quicker and fire at a faster rate.
Warships
The largest of the sky, they range from 350 to 450 feet long. These are massive beasts, slower than all the other ships, yet they hold an extreme level of fire power. They are both coal and steam powered with four stocks in the middle and steam exhausts towards the base of the ship that power the massive duel propellers that keep this beast in the air. They have multiple cannons and a collection of all sorts of machine gun nests, snipe towers, bunkers, and firing quarters to defend from. Warships are made specifically to destroy any other larger ship, it's size or bigger, with its firepower one direct and accurate hit can send any ship descending to the ground.
Destroyers
Between 200 - 260 feet long, yet very quick and able to close the space in between them and their target at a great speed. Destroyers are slimmer than all the other air ships but have the thickest layer of armor and the most turrets along the sides, base, and nose of the ship. Destroyers have the goal of targeting warships and with their speed and collection of fire power if they get close enough they can rip a warship to shreds.
Sky Carriers
Long floating platforms powered by steam only with large propellers that push these floating barge like ships. There are no turrets on these sky carriers, and they are pretty much defenseless. But they serve one of the biggest purposes in Sky Fleets, they carry the planes into the sky so that when combat occurs pilots can get into the air and can get into action as quick as possible.
Planes
Planes serve the greatest role in Sky Fleets. With their great speed and ability to freely move they can be order to target specific ships, take down certain targets, and unleash hell on any chosen enemy. Although, planes are the deadly position in the Sky Fleet, as they are the first to go out in battle and the last to return. If their carrier is shot down, then they might not even be able to land.
For planes I leave this up to you to fully customize, pick, and choose your selected plane or even your squadron of planes. Just base your models off World War I planes and add your own steampunk design and customization to it. I would like it if players chose planes from their own country, British pilots choosing planes from the list of British WWI planes while Germanic pilots choose from German WWI planes. Don't forget to add a level of steampunk to it during customization.
Spoiler: Technology Level. War Machines and Infantry Firearms
War Machines
The Industrialized War Machines vary, and as well as that I want you all, the players, to freely create and customize your own type of steampunk war machines. The pictures below are to give you an idea on the style, design, and technological level these machines are at. From walkers, to tanks, to larger siege machines I want you to freely express your creativity in your machine. But, like I have said many times before, this is a WWI era steampunk role so please try to stay around that.
Walkers
Tanks
(forget the unicorn lol)
Artillery Tank
Siege Machines
Infantry Firearms
Guns and firearms will be modeled after World War I weapons, nothing further or nothing behind. Weapons used during WWI are free game to use, just add your own steampunk design to them. Feel free to also customize your character to fit the World War I steampunk era style.
End Note
As you can see I have put in a lot of work in trying to kick start this new RP. If you are interested or at least know someone who is interested then please invite others to join. Even if don't like my idea or what I had done here, leave some feed back on how I can improve this RP. I hope I was able to fully explain myself and capture the desire of anyone who read. If there are any questions or comments feel free to post. War has begun, what will you do in your part? Join now!

Be sure to fit your characters gear to the country he is fighting for and the branch he is fighting in. Get creative, be free to express your imagination just try to stay Steampunk.

Spoiler: Dominic "Hawk" Hawkins
Forum Name: Vietmyke Character Name: Dominic "Hawk" Hawkins Character Age: 26 Character Country: Great Britain Character Bio:
A dynamic and energetic Flying Ace for the Britain RAF, Dominic Hawkins was born in London, on January 3rd, at the turn of the 20th century. The middle son of a family of five, Hawkins was the son of a Doctor and Nurse. Throughout his childhood, Dominic was ever the adventurous one, with a penchant for reaching high places, much to the dismay of his older brother, who was inversely, terrified of heights. While the three sons of the Hawkins family were all talented in their own ways, it was quickly seen that only the youngest son had the capacity to become a doctor, the oldest son taking up work in a factory, and Dominic, the middle son, doing odd jobs around the city.
As the threat of war loomed closer, all three sons joined the British Army. Albert, the oldest son joined the British Clankers Division as a crew chief and engineer. William, the youngest son, joined the British Army as a field doctor. And Dominic, with his love of the sky, joined the British Royal Air Fleet, as an aspiring pilot. Despite his love for the skies and adventure, Dominic ended up graduating near the bottom of his class, due to insubordination and fighting.
At the outset of the war, Dominic had pulled a rather unlucky assignment, and was one of the first pilots of the RAF to face off against the Germanic Luftflotte. Miraculously, Dominic had survived and made off with almost a dozen confirmed kills. Baptized by fire and proven in battle, Dominic was quickly reassessed and transferred to a different unit, where his training continued alongside regular engagements with the Luftflotte. Now a part of the 24th Squadron, The Raptor Team, Dominic is considered a talented Ace, and has been nicknamed 'The Hawk' by most of the members in the RAF.
Military Service: RAF - London Fleet - Flying Ace Character Appearance:
With a small stature to match his short temper, Dominic stands in at about 5'5" (165cm). This young pilot sports dusty blonde hair as well as a pair of sharp, gray-blue eyes to match his personality. Never seen without his reddish leather jacket, Dominic commonly pairs this with a set of gray parachute pants tucked into a pair of boots. Dominic commonly forgoes a leather flight helmet and instead opts for a pair of flight goggles that he typically wears around his neck.
Character Military Gear:
Aside from his flight gear, Dominic bears a standard issue webby revolver with a mechanized pullback hammer, as well as an 'appropriated' Steam powered Luger P.08. Regarding the P.08 Luger, a steam cartridge can be inserted into the base of a magazine (similar to an aerosol can). The steam can then be 'injected' into the pistol, increasing the velocity of its rounds.
Fighter Plane
The Syde-Martin f.42 Bird of Prey (Based off of the Martinsyde f.4 Buzzard) is the aircraft of choice for the members of the 24th Squadron, better known as the Raptor Squadron. Sleek and aerodynamic, this propeller powered fighter plane also sports a Steam-Jet under the rear portion of its fuselage, allowing for short bursts of extreme speeds. Designed to be extremely responsive and maneuverable, this plane is widely regarded as the plane of choice for RAF Flying Aces. As far as armaments go, the Bird of Prey utilizes a pair of Vickerson Steam-Powered Machine Guns, firing the powerful .303 round, as well as the option to attach a bomb to the bottom of the fuselage.
Hawkins' Bird of Prey has the image of a Hawk emblazoned on its sides, as well as tallies scratched onto the side of the plane for every kill made.

The Villain of The Allied Powers

Forum Name: Juicesir Character Name: Aemilius Johannes Drechner Character Age: 53 Character Country: The Germanic Powers
Character Bio: Born in Dresden on September 28th, 1866, Aemilius Drechner was the son of a wealthy bookstore owner and local headmaster. The second of four children, Aemilius' early life was full of studious book learning and a surprising aptitude for engineering. With his father having previously served in the German military, he received fencing training and other intensive martial educations early on. At the age of 14, Aemilius and a friend built a full-scale glider and were able to fly it short distances. He later purchased a motorcycle, and upon getting home immediately set about taking it apart and putting it back together. He displayed remarkable technical aptitude throughout his life and briefly considered becoming an engineer, but at age 18 he acceded to his father's wishes and joined the local infantry regiment. With his mechanical aptitude, he quickly was reassigned to the burgeoning Flight Academy where he graduated with honors.
Assigned to the zeppelin Hunding, he quickly proved his talents as both a patient strategist and bold innovator. Military Service: Grand Admiral of the Germanic Air Fleet (Die Luftflotte)

With a strong Saxon jawline and somewhat deep set eyes that enhance the charm of his smile, he has been described as a devilish rogue and an old school hard ass. Standing in at 172cm, his one rather offsetting feature is the mechanical hand he fashioned for himself after an mechanical incident during his first tour of duty. An otherwise normal looking and picturesque older gentleman, his one deformity has now been a source of pride for Germanic leaders and has been referred to in propaganda as the Right Hand of the People as a show of what overcoming one's own failures can mean.
Character Military Gear: He keeps a modified Teutonic Knight's sword at his side at all times. The sword has been refitted to interlock with his mechanical right hand and allow for manual control over a pistol that has been mounted at the base of the fuller.

Ok so I think this is really a great idea but as a soldier I kinda also want to have a bit of fun with it.
what about a defector not everyone buys into political doctrine.
