I sort of work with the groups when they're ready for it, as in when all players in that group have posted. That's how I manage the timeline. Posts vary enough in length that it remains plausible even if one group gets more posts than another for a while, and all groups have had posts exclusive to them, so it remains balanced. I do avoid posting for a group when its members have not all posted though, because there's no plausible way to hold a timeline together under those circumstances.
I've been waiting too, because if a large enough posting discrepancy builds up between groups, then it does become a problem. Though if that's why you joined this RP, you have my thanks. You'll definitely be missed if you choose to go.
