In the present day of the Pokémon World, everything is safe, pleasant, and rather peaceful over all. The regions are all full of bustling cities, and pokémon and people get along, working together side by side, whether as a pet, friends, or partners. Buildings were built almost everywhere, Pokémon Centers everywhere you looked, PokéMarts built next door, their shelves stocked with pokéballs and potions, ready for you to purchase and stock your bags. Dexter is in your back pocket, there to tell you the name of the pokémon standing in front of you, along with a detailed description of it and its strengths and weaknesses. There is no fear of attacks, or war, or bloodshed of any kind. It wasn’t always like that, though.

Many years ago, before even Professor Oak himself, the Pokémon World was much different then what we’re used to. There wasn’t a Pokédex to tell you what kind of pokémon you were facing — many walked around with a book filled with sketches of pokémon made a pokémon watcher, and those were extremely hard to come by; all pokéballs were handmade and were extremely unreliable, making catching pokémon terribly difficult; potions weren’t mass produced in factories, and there wasn’t a Pokémon Center everywhere you went — potions were made by hand using berries and leaves and roots, and instead of Pokémon Centers, you had a rest house, and, if you were lucky, there’d be a doctor there ready to help your pokémon.

It was during this time that the Pokémon World found itself in a state of havoc — the roads were unsafe to travel, towns were being raided, pokémon would attack cities and people; all of this was a culture norm for the people of that time. The source of this havoc was thanks to a horrible team called Team Dark Rise — they sought out to capture all pokémon and turn them into fighting machines. They did this by using a secret process that turns the pokémon into a blood thirsty beast, unlocking all its fighting potential, maxing out its stats. In turn, the pokémon is turned permanently black, and its eyes a piercing orange color. They have very little sense, but will listen to the one who wields its pokéball. These pokémon are scary though, and will not hesitate to kill man and pokémon alike.

Team Dark Rise used these pokémon, who were respectably called Dark Pokémon, to start a war as they tried to take over the land we all know and love as the Sinnoh Region. They plot to take over this region, and then move on to the other lands, eventually taking over the whole world. Luckily for the people of the Sinnoh Region, the Dark Pokémon have yet to spread all across the region, but their beginning to spread, reports of wild Dark Pokémon becoming frequent. People are beginning to flee the country in hopes of a better, safer life elsewhere as Team Dark Rise becomes a daunting figure head in the region.

However, the fight isn’t over, for people all over the region are starting to band together and rise up again Team Dark Rise and their Dark Pokémon. These people are hoping to all gather together in alliance with one another to create a force strong enough to defeat Team Dark Rise with the help of pokémon — whether captured or befriended. You see, the humans aren’t the only ones who are afraid. Man and Pokémon alike are concerned of the rising of Team Dark Rise, and the spreading of the Dark Pokémon. So together they stand, and together they fight, united by one common desire — to defeat Team Dark Rise and save the Sinnoh Region. To do this first, they must make it to what we know as Hearthome City, which was nothing back then as it is today. Hearthome City is where it is rumored that the people wanting to stay and fight this inevitable battle are residing, building their team and plotting an attack. This is where the resistance will start.

Spoiler: Rules 

1. The GMs' word is law.
2. No Legendary Pokémon on your teams. However, they may come into the story line at some point, as long as I see fit, but they cannot be captured. Perhaps befriended, but we’ll have to see about that when the time comes.
3. No Dark Pokémon on anyone’s team. There will be chances to catch them.
4. No canon characters. This is long before their time, so they don’t exist. They aren’t the heroes we looked up to as children. However, we plan to be the heroes they look up to as they get older.
5. No god-modding, power-playing, or autoing. We all know what god-modding and power-playing is, and autoing is the same thing — pretty much, don’t control another person’s character. However, if the two of you want to battle, then collaborate a post through PM! I highly recommend it!
6. While I don’t mind romance and language, keep it PG-15. If your characters want to do some hanky panky (where they find the time for it, I wouldn’t know), just do a time skip, please, for the love of it. Also, not everyone is into cussing, so just monitor what you guys say, alright?
7. If you’re going to be away for a while, let us know. We don’t want to hold up the roleplay because you aren’t here.
8. While posting, it would be appreciated if your post would be three decent paragraphs. However, I understand that writer’s block happens (I’m an aspiring author and fanfiction author, so I know), so if you can only give me two paragraphs, just make them the two best damn paragraphs you’ve ever written. Also, post in third person. I know that seems like an odd request, but it just helps the story flow, y’know?
9. Keep OOC chat in the OOC, and IC in the IC. Of course, if there’s an idea or something that you want to discuss with the group involving the IC, please post it! I love this kind of stuff! And I’m completely open to suggestions!

Spoiler: Catching and Befriending Pokémon  

Catching Pokémon in this world is no easy feat — the pokéballs used in this world are less powerful than a modern day regular ol’ pokéball. This doesn’t mean your character can’t start off with a full team, but it should be reasonable — a fifteen year old walking around with six, fully evolved pokémon on their team is not sensible. However, if your character is thirty-seven years old and has a full team of six, fully evolved, captured pokémon, that is completely understandable.

This doesn’t mean you can’t catch a pokémon though! Throughout the RP, there will be plenty of chances to catch pokémon, but saying your Pidgey tackled a Caterpie and you threw a pokéball and caught it won’t work. It’ll need to be a long, drawn out battle, with preferably three of more pokéballs being used.

There is an alternative to catching pokémon, and that is befriending them. Now, this doesn’t mean you can befriend eight different pokémon at one time whilst having a full team of six — the rules still apply. So, if you have two captured pokémon, you can only have four befriended pokémon. So, if a wild Skitty comes along and you want to befriend it, but you already have six pokémon, you need to either release one or send one of your befriended pokémon back on their merry way. There is no way to store pokémon unless you are in Hearthome City, so pick and choose your team wisely.

2. At the beginning of the roleplay, everyone is trying to make their way to Hearthome City. So, while posting in the IC for now, at the top of your post please put where your character is. I’ll be putting a link somewhere on this page that leads to the Sinnoh page on Bulbapedia in case you need to know what the routes around Sinnoh look like.
3. Guns are very hard to come by in this day and age, and if you were to find one, they’d be extremely expensive. So when asked about weapons, stick to swords, bows and arrows, things of that nature. Your character doesn’t even need to have a weapon if you so choose.

Bio/History: Ty is from a very rich family in the Unova Region. Her father was the owner of a spreading buisness, and her aided her father in the buisness, which supplied them with an extreme amount of money. They lived in a large mansion in Castellia City, and growing up, Ty had everything she ever wanted — she was an only child of two very rich parents, and they spoiled her with gifts and clothes and money. However, it wasn’t what she wanted — while Ty appreciated the spoils of her parents, her true passion was art; she loved to draw, and would often be found in the gardens with a sketchbook in hand, drawing pokémon in their natural habitat. As a hobby aside from drawing, her mother signed her up at a karate dojo — it was the only thing Ty wanted to do, despite her mother’s constant begging to do something else.

When she was twelve, her father gave her Zorua as her first pokémon — he had come across it while on a business trip and sent one of his employees to go catch it for him, seeing as how it would make a great pet for his daughter. At the age of eighteen, Ty grew bored of her laid back lifestyle, so she and Zorua packed up and left Castellia City and the Unova Region, her eyes set on Floaroma Town in the Sinnoh Region. Along the way they would stop frequently, Ty captivated by the sight of pokémon she had never seen — right before they left the Unova Region though, they made a stop, but not to draw. Ty had run into a Rufflet, and the small bird pokémon was a bit of a hot head, and he challenged Ty and Zorua to a battle, not allowing the two to pass. Resentfully, Ty and Zorua accepted, and the long, grueling battle began. However, after an almost hour long battle, Rufflet was defeated. Ty, not wanting to leave the poor pokémon there, captured it, and took it to the nearest rest house. Rufflet, once recovered, was at first resentful towards Ty, but only because he was embarrassed by his defeat. However, he soon got over it and accepted Ty as his trainer, and the three quickly bonded.

Once in Floaroma Town, Ty was almost overwhelmed with all the new pokémon she encountered. After living there for two years, she befriended a Shinx, who insisted on following trainer and her pokémon everywhere. When Team Dark Rise started to build power, Ty and her pokémon, along with Shinx, where all very afraid, but it seemed to be contained at first. However, mere months ago, there were reports of Dark Pokémon beginning to spread through the country. Of course, unsure of what a Dark Pokémon was, Ty and her pokémon decided to go check it out. As they left, Ty tried to get Shinx to stay, but the pokémon was determined to stay, and so the four of them set off towards Eterna City, where the reports of Dark Pokémon had stemmed from.

Upon arriving, Ty and her pokémon were greeted by a Dark Buneary, and Ty, not sure how to handle the pokémon, sent Zorua out to fight it. However, when the Dark Buneary reared its razor sharp teeth and turned to attack Ty instead of Zorua, that’s when Ty realized she was in trouble. Lucky for her, Shinx was able to shock the Buneary, stopping it in its tracks. They ran for it, hoping to find safety in the city, but where met by Team Dark Rise and their army of Dark Pokémon. Ty was soon under their fire, and found herself in an impossible situation against a Dark Rapidash and Dark Skarmony. Her three pokémon where out powered, and Ty figured she was done for. However, her saving grace was a young man named Seth, who used an Absol and Mightyena to save Ty and fight off the Dark Pokémon. The two trainers and their pokémon made a quick getaway to Seth’s hideout, where proper introductions were made. After sharing their stories, Seth explained to Ty who she had just encountered and what their pokémon were. He then told her about the alliance of trainers and pokémon building in Hearthome City, and asked if she would like to accompany him to the city. She agreed, seeing as how the man had just saved her life, and the two began their journey towards Heathome City. Seth understood that stops would be necessary so Ty could draw the pokémon she saw along the way, and the two got along very well, even despite the extreme age gap.

Personality: Ty is a young, out spoken girl, who enjoys being surrounded by pokémon immensely. She’s smart and easily liked, but she shies away from battling, trying her best to talk herself out of many situations. She will fight if there is no other option, however, and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. Her pokémon battling skills, however, could use some much needed improvement, but she and Seth work on it daily. She puts her pokémon first, and would put her life on the line for them. Ty doesn’t like people looking at her drawings, and trusts very few people with her sketchbook. Seth is one of those people, though she has only known him for a few weeks.

Hometown: Originally from Cinnabar Island, moved to Azalea Town, then to Lavaridge Town, and finally to Eterna City

Bio/History: Seth was born in Cinnabar Island to a poor family with five other brothers and four sisters. Life in the family was very hard — his father was a mine worker, and his mother would do odd jobs to scrape up some money here and there. Seth was the sixth born child, so he was right around the middle of all the chaos. He wasn’t a fan of the life style, so at the age of ten, he ran away from home and stowed away on a supply ship that had come into port to unload the goods. Seth was only able to stay hidden for three days until a crew member found him and reported him to the captain. When the captain asked Seth why he had stowed away on the boat, Seth lied and said that he was an orphan, his parents abandoning him at a young age, leaving him to stay with his grandfather, who was an abusive drunk. The captain felt bad for the poor boy and announced to the crew that he would be taking Seth under his wing and showing him the ropes.

At the age of thirteen, Captain Reeds presented Seth with a Vulpix — even though most sailors used water pokémon, Captain Reeds noticed that Seth took a particular liking to fire-types, and so he managed to get him a young Vulpix as his first pokémon. At the age of seventeen, Seth told Captain Reeds that, after seven years of roaming the high seas and the region of Kanto with the honorable captain and crew, he wished to leave, and go to the Johto Region to learn how to make pokéballs from a man named Wesley. Captain Reeds, though sad that his adopted son was leaving, understood, and, as a going away present, the crew pulled together their earning and gave Seth his second pokémon — Growlithe. So, with a new pokémon to add to his team, Seth, Vulpix, and Growlithe made their way to Azalea Town.

Once they made it to Azalea Town, the three of them went to Wesley, a very old, very wise man, who lived with his son and wife, and their new born son, Kurt. Wesley, who was surprised and honored that Seth had made such a long journey to meet him, agreed to help Seth learn to make pokéballs, and took Seth on as an apprentice. Seth spent three years with Wesley, and was soon making pokéballs just as well as the old man himself. So, at the age of twenty, Seth took all the knowledge he earned from Wesley, and began his journey through the Johto Region. It was then that Seth met a young Houndoom, who was strong and powerful — just the kind of pokémon Seth so desperately wanted. So, he challenged Houndoom to a battle, and the pokémon accepted, and the two were soon battling until the end. Seth first used Growlithe, but the small pokémon didn’t stand a chance against the Houndoom. Next he sent out Vulpix, who put up quite the fight. However, Houndoom was stronger, and just when it seemed like all hope was lost and Seth would have to withdraw, Vulpix began glowing, and she evolved into a Ninetales! With a newfound strength, Ninetales was able to defeat Houndoom, and with his hope riding on his last pokéball, Seth threw yet another pokéball and captured Houndoom, adding another pokémon to his team.

A year later, Seth grew rather bored of his life in the Johto Region, and he decided to once again move on to yet another region — the Hoenn Region. He wasn’t sure what would be in store for him there, but he decided it would be part of the great adventure he was making out of his life. So he and his three pokémon left and went to the Hoenn Region. Once there, they decided to head straight for Lavaridge Town. Along the way though, they ran into a couple a teens messing with a Mightyena. Seth, who wasn’t one to tolerate the mistreating of pokémon, quickly stood up for the pokémon, using Ninetales to fight the four kids off. Once they were gone, Seth checked on Mightyena, only to find that the pokémon was perfectly unharmed, though seriously frightened. Considering that the kids could come back, Seth offered to the Mightyena that he join the group as nothing more than a friend, allowed to leave whenever it pleased. The pokémon agreed, and, after befriending it, the group was well on its way to Lavaridge Town.

The group settled down in Lavaridge Town, and it was there that the five of them lived in peace for many years. However, at the age of thirty, after living in peace for nine years, making a living by making quality pokéballs for trainers, a customer came to Seth, asking him to make pokéballs. It was then that the man told Seth how he came from the Sinnoh Region, how people were fleeing the land because of an organization called Team Dark Rise, and their pokémon called Dark Pokémon. Seth wanted to see what all the commotion was about, and wanted to see if what the man said was true. So, he closed down his shop, and he and his pokémon, along with Mightyena went to the Sinnoh Region, heading straight for Eterna City, which, according to the man, is where the Dark Pokémon were most often spotted. However, along the way, Seth and his pokémon found themselves being stalked by a pokémon — Absol. The pokémon didn’t try to fight them, nor did he want to be friends, as he kept a large distance between himself and the group. Even though Seth found this odd, he allowed Absol to follow him.

The group, with Absol trailing them, made their way to Eterna City just a matter of months ago. At first, things seemed rather peaceful, and Seth figured the man had been telling nothing but lies. However, he didn’t mind, as he thoroughly enjoyed traveling. He settled down with his pokémon, and started up another business of making pokéballs for people. It was a booming business, and it did very well. Every day when Seth would go out to the bank and deposit his earnings, he would spot Absol, lurking in the distance, just watching him. One evening though, Seth found himself in a rush to get to the bank before it closed, and he left his house without any of him pokémon. He made it to the bank, and by the time he started to head home, night had befallen him. This didn’t alert him though, as Eterna City had proven to be a rather safe town. However, as he turned the corner, a block away from his house, he found himself face to face with a Skuntank, but it wasn’t a normal one — its fur was jet black, and its eyes were an eerie orange color. The pokémon lunged at Seth, and he managed to dodge it, but just barely. He took off at a full sprint towards him house, but he soon found himself facing Drapion, jet black with orange eyes. With the two seemingly blood thirsty pokémon closing in and no way to defend himself, Seth admitted defeat. However, Absol came out of nowhere, managing to fight off the rabid pokémon long enough for Seth and Absol to make a getaway.

Once back in the safety of his house, Seth thanked Absol, offering him to take shelter with him and his pokémon. Absol accepted, and it seemed as though the two had managed to befriend one another.

Since that night, the Dark Pokémon have become more frequent, and Seth and his pokémon had to go into hiding. Up until a few weeks ago, they could manage the Dark Pokémon, until Team Dark Rise came to town. They began to attack everyone, and so Seth, his pokémon, Mightyena, and Absol decided to run for it. As they attempted to make it out of town, they ran into Ty. After saving her and forming a small group, they all left town together, their eyes set for Hearthome City.

Personality: Seth comes off very cold and uncompassionate when he first meets someone. However, he is strong and very kind, and will help anyone who needs it. He is extremely smart and tactful, and he knows how to create and carry out plans. Seth is a strong leader, and very protective of his pokémon, especially his Ninetales and Growlithe. He enjoys peace and quiet, especially when he is off making his pokéballs, but he doesn’t mind the company of others.
