The Gifted: 1875
The world is rapidly changing. New advances mean that new and faster means of communcation, more efficient transportatation and other conveniences are transforming the world. The nation is still recovering from a brutal war that split it in two. In the wake of this something is happening to humanity itself. Reports have begun coming in, first only one or two here and there in isolated areas, but soon more frequently until the accounts fill towering stacks. And they're all the same. People have begun exhibiting extraordinary powers. And these are not merely the flights of fancy of some author with pen and paper or the sparkle and glam of fraud showmen, but truly, scientifically documented cases. Flight, extraordinary strength, the ability to shoot an intense beam of light from the tip of the pinky finger are among the ever growing list of scientifically documented 'super-powers'
At first, the government tried it's best to hide the cases. Even trundled a number off to 'reservations' in the Western Frontier, but to no avail. Sensatrionalist or 'Yellow' Journalists soon outed the stories of these men and women and splashed them across the newspapers of the entire nation. This understandably caused a...slight panic...that allegedly flattened the city of Omaha. Once the Army settled the people down to some degree, most began to accept the fact that there were now people with strange new powers and abilities that just may be their neighbors.
These new people, mostly living out West, where there was less to be destroyed. (other than Omaha of course. But that was a paniced mob.) began to settle into life with their abilities. Some decided to use their powers to help others in need. Some decided to hide the fact that they had powers at all, and others chose to use these powers for their own gain. Rumor has it there are gangs of powered Outlaws roaming the west, all reporting to one they only call Black Rider. Legend goes that the Black Rider has the power to control darkness itself and can fashion anything from pieces of the night. Of course, these are only legends. But all the same, a Gifted man that has been recently elected US Marshal that goes by Silverskin (reports say that he has the ability to turn himself into living metal)has begun to form a group of heroic Gifted to combat the outlaw threat.
Will you join the Outlaws and fight for your own gain?
