    STORY

"No one knows the year. Surely the Dragons keep track of time somehow, but humans do not have that privilege. We are no longer allowed to read or write, or do anything outside what our masters allow. A human with knowledge is a danger to himself, they say. All a man need know is the sun and the season, the name of his master and the tool of his trade. We were the masters once. We had the whole earth to ourselves and, if you believe the old stories, even had some magic of our own. The Dragons claim they intervened to keep us from destroying our world. I don't know what to believe anymore, but I do know that it should not be this way. A man aught not live in fear of the moonless night or the sound of dragon-scales over the grass. A man aught not fear his wife or child being taken without word or warning, simply because they offended a Dragon, or worse, because they caught his eye. They treat us as less than animals, and why? Why do they hate us so? Oh how I wish the old stories were true, of glass towers and metal birds. I wish that the DragonsBane would return and free us. But those are fairy tales. It is beyond hope that the Dragons' magic might be overcome by sheer force of will."

Roughly a hundred years ago, a space-faring race of Dragons took over the earth, enslaved the human race, and destroyed all trace of human technology. The Dragons then adopted a feudal-type system of government, with a king/queen elected by a council of greater and lesser lords, and middle and lower class Dragons below them. Some dragons serve as guards, servants and messengers for their superiors, but all menial labor is relegated to the humans. Almost all dragons own human slaves, even those of the lower classes. They are always quarreling with each other for power, but almost never fight directly.

It is not impossible for a human to be freed, but extremely rare. Either they are considered too worthless to feed, or not suitable for food themselves, or they have done something remarkable for their master warranting freedom. Needless to say, any human found outside his master's boundaries is quite literally considered fair game. If you have read this section and after you finish reading the rules, type everything is awesome to indicate your interest in joining. Tasks assigned to humans are based on their breeding, their looks and their intelligence, but they are not allowed access to the Dragons' technology, their "magic" as they prefer to call it. If the job existed in the medieval or renaissance era, it likely fits into this scenario as a human task.

There are many things that the Dragons often do to degrade the Humans. They often refer to them in animal terms. While two dragons may be "mates", a married man and woman are "breeders". A human child is a "youngling" or a "pup", and an elder is described by the color of his "fur". Also there are separate systems of currency for humans and Dragons. Dragons use precious metals or jewels in trade, but all the humans are given are the shed scales of their master, which as everyone knows are useless.
    ____________

    LOCATIONS

    Name of Area: Wygard Castle
    Type: Castle
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: Northeast of Noscales Village in the Plains of Agmar at the center of the world.
Description: Wygard castle is the estate of the reigning Dragon clan and the fondest of their servants and slaves. It is also the home of the group of winged Halfbloods known collectively as the Champions. The castle is as heavily guarded as it is beautiful, and no one is allowed in or out without the current Dragon king's permission.

    Name of Area: Noscales Village
    Type: Village
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: Southwest of Wygard Castle in the Plains of Agmar, and far south of Whitebreath Mountains.
Description: This is the human camp where the king's slaves are kept, close enough to the castle to keep an eye on them, but far enough away that the monarchs aren't bothered by their sweaty human stench. These humans are favored though, for although they are always under the Champions' watchful eyes, they are left more or less to their own devices as long as they get their work done, which could be anything from hunting to tending fields and flocks to crafting things for their Halfblood and Dragon masters.

Name of Area: Plains of Agmar
    Type: Plains
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: South of the Whitebreath Mountains, said to be the center of the kingdom.
Description: The Plains of Agmar, said to be named for a valiant Dragon that died bravely in a battle, stretch across nearly half the area of the continent. The plains surrounding the castle are carefully tended by servants, while that closer to Noscales Village is used as farm and field land. The rest grows mostly wild, yielding all kinds of plants. All sorts of birds and other kinds of creatures can be found in the plains, including wild horses.

    Name of Area: Whitebreath Mountains
    Type: Mountain
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: North of the Plains of Agmar.
Description: These white-capped mountains seem deceptively small from a distance due to their immense width, but they are so high that even Dragons risk their lives by attempting to fly over them without knowledge of the right ways to do so. The air at their peaks is so thin that it would be suicide for a human to attempt the climb, not to mention the bone-chilling cold that seems to freeze what little breath reaches the lungs. Of course the Dragons have developed ways of going back and forth over them easily and without risk of harming themselves, but they will not easily divulge their secrets.

    Name of Area: Rising City
    Type: City
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: East of the Whitebreath Mountains bordering the sea, far north-northeast of Wygard Castle.
Description: The Rising City, cut off as it is from the rest of the continent, seems a world unto itself. If humans were given the choice of where to live, however, this would not be their choice. The labor is hard and physical, mostly mining and smelting and smithing, and the Dragons and Halfbloods are always watching, waiting for an excuse to punish those humans that give less than everything they have. Among the humans, the city is called Hell's Gate, both for its unpleasantness and the sweltering heat of it, produced by some magical means by the dragons. The sole feature of the massive city that stands out, besides the castle of its Dragon lords, is the Arena. Dragons suffering from bloodlust will even fly the seas or brave the Whitebreaths to see matches of humans dueling unnatural beasts, Halfbloods, and each other. It is used both as entertainment for them as well as a punishment for the humans.

Name of Area: Swamp of Cursed Earth
    Type: Wilderness
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

    Location: South of Rising City
Description: Some say that the Swamp of Cursed Earth was created during the Great War, while others claim that it was made with Dragon magic to keep the humans of Rising City from attempting escape. The bog of the swamp sears the lungs of human and dragon alike. Only Halfbloods seem, somehow, immune to it. Everything growing in Cursed Earth is either poisonous or otherwise a danger. The few who have made it through alive speak of monstrous shadows and dark voices that never come to light. Whether these are creatures morphed by Dragon magic, or simply the maddening effect of the cursed swamp air, no one dares conjecture. Some things, you are better off not knowing.

    Name of Area: Agmar Castle
    Type: Mountain Stronghold
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: North of the Plains of Agmar, in the heart of the Whitebreath Mountains.
Description: The only true stronghold or castle to dominate the mountain range, Agmar Castle is the ancestral home of the Agmar dynasty, and is the current home and seat of power for Masamune Agmar, the lord of this mountain range. All dragons who wish to cross through the mountains must cross here, for it is the safest way to go to reach either side... unless they wish to travel the immeasurable distance around. Famed for both its beauty and strength, this castle is said to be as impenetrable as the mountains themselves during times of war.

    ----------------

    Name of Area: Whitebreath Village
    Type: Human Village
    Picture:
    Spoiler:

Location: Not far south of Agmar Castle, near the foot of the mountains.
Description: The only major human settlement in the Whitebreath Mountains, the village and all of its lands belong to the lords of Agmar Castle. The city is at the end of the road out of the mountains if one were travelling south of the Whitebreath Mountains, and is located near a major river that runs down from the mountains. Between it and the castle runs the only paved highway within the pass, meant for humans to come between the stronghold and the village. This road is easily travelled except during the winter, when the storms render the area completely impassable for humans.

    ____________

    RULES

    1. There will be a maximum of six players. Each player can have two main characters at a time, and if the character dies they can create a new one. NPCs can be made and played by anyone.

    2. If you have to leave for some reason, let us know. If you are gone more than two weeks without warning, you characters could be killed off and your place given to somebody else.

    3. Characters can be either human or dragon. If you have an idea for a third race, let us know and it will be considered.

    4. When making your character, keep in mind that the humans are slaves, so they can only be expected to know what they have been trained. A human would need a very good reason to know how to read or write, for example. During the game characters will come across hidden technology, but don't expect it to be easy or for them to immediately know what to do with it.

    5. No God-modding, and no magic. Dragons refer to their technology as "magic" to confuse the humans and make themselves seem more superior. This is sci-fi, but if a technology can not be reasonably explained, it doesn't belong here. If any other species are introduced to the game, the same rules apply.
