Bad Moon Rising [OOC] [PG-13]

It was always said hat at the end of the world, the moon would turn to blood. Not only in our Earth culture, but in nearly every other culture that had a moon, was the fear that the rock orbiting a planet would change for the worse. When Earth's moon dulled to a blood-red color in 3812, a set of explorers were sent out into the unknown to see if there was any hope for mankind but were never heard from again. Colonies on other planets in the Milky Way were attempted, but whenever Earth's moon passed near the colonies they failed. It wasn't long before people called the moon “cursed”.
Now, it is becoming more and more urgent that another home for Earth's population is found. The world's scientists agree that the planet is dying quickly, and that within a few years it will be unable to support life. More scouting groups are being put together, their members chosen at random from a lottery supplementing the ships' skeleton crews. Should a trip succeed, the crew will return to Earth to take part in the exodus attempt, if it's not too late, but the others will be left to fend for themselves on whatever planet may be found capable of supporting them. Each member has the option to choose to bring one member of their family with them on the expedition.
Now, these brave pioneers are preparing to embark on the ship. They will be saying farewell to their friends, families, countries, and planets, preparing to go out into the great unknown. Some of them probably didn't think they would be chosen for the lottery; some of them may not be prepared for this potentially dangerous new life. But while onboard the ship, the colonists will have to learn to work with each other to survive.
You may join as a member of the crew or as a colonist. You may have any position on the ship except the captain. If you play a colonist, your character can choose not to bring anyone with them. You may fill out up to three character sheets – a colonist, a colonist's companion, and a crew member.

Crew/Colonist : Colonist
Strengths : Chris is a fair hand at fixing most of the technology he's had to deal with. He can read almost any book in a few hours or less, and is an accomplished nonfiction writer, although he never published any of his fiction. He also has a singing voice that's not bad.
Weaknesses : He tends to be overprotective of those he loves. He also has a knack for getting himself beat up defending his friends and for not learning from aforementioned experiences.
Characteristics : Chris always has a book and weapon somewhere on his person.
Hair and Eye Color : Black, blue
Height : About 6'2"
General Appearance : Chris is always casually dressed, preferably in jeans, a jean jacket, and a plain t-shirt. If he's not barefoot, which isn't unusual, he usually wears sneakers.

Strengths : Rick tends to learn quickly and is even better at working with electronics than his father is. He is also a fantastic artist.
Weaknesses : He tends to get into trouble a lot, has minor dyslexia, and has a rather large fear of spiders.
Characteristics : Rick is usually playing on some sort of electronic device or drawing.
Hair and Eye Color : Black, grey
Height : About 4'3"
General Appearance : Rick is usually dressed in whatever he pulled out of his closet first, which can lead to some interesting color combinations. Usually at least one of his shoes are untied and his shirt is backward.

Name: Mathias Thatcher
Age: 20

Crewman, Engineer
Strengths: Generally easy-going, ready to lend a hand. Really good with machinery, has a knack for fixing things.
Weaknesses: Kleptomaniac. Gets very angry when he feels he's been cheated or lied to. Prone to small seizures and fits of madness.
Characteristics: Not overly muscular, but fit. Slightly scrawny. An even 6 feet tall. Right arm has been replaced with a crude mechanized one which has a rusting bronze sickle attached to the end. The runes on the blade glow faintly green and smell of seawater. The left side of his face has also been replaced with piecemeal machinery. His left eye is now an ocular lens. His voice carries a slightly tinny note with a hint of an Irish accent.
Hair: Dark brown, not very long, and swept to the right. A few strands at the front are light grey.
Eyes: Hazel
General Appearance: Mainly formal clothing. Grey pinstripe pants and vest, white dress-shirt with a deep blue bow-tie. He also occasionally wears a wide-brimmed black hat.

Crew : Pilot
Strengths : Rose has years of experience under her belt and has logged many hours in flight simulators in preparation for this trip. She's always ready for the next adventure and the furthest horizon. She's very professional and used to teamwork.
Weaknesses : She's not very strong or very knowledgeable about parts of the ship beyond the navigation and flight systems. She has very limited skills outside of her flying ability.
Characteristics : When not flying, Rose is either playing chess against a computer (she never wins) or reading. She also enjoys tinkering with computers, though it's much more of a hobby than an actual skill.
Hair and Eye Color : Blond and blue
Height : 5'6"
General Appearance : Rose dresses very casually and can be found in jeans, work boots, and t-shirts most of the time.
