Of Shadows and Saviours (OOC) - A Fantasy/Adventure (M)
BY DECLARATION OF THE EMPIRE!
It has come to the attention of the ruling council, that the Castle of Greywall is in need
of assistance. As the Empire and her Kingdoms have been charged with protecting those
of our citizens in these tumultuous times, we cannot afford to send our forces to aid with
such a distant trouble without any further information regarding the loss of our valued
trading posts to the far East of our Great Empire.
Henceforth, we call upon those brave and daring adventurers and mercenaries, to venture
forth on the Grand Councils behalf, and aid Castle Greywall in resolving this matter with
haste and diplomacy. Upon completion of this bounty, and the seal of approval granted by
a Lord of Castle Greywall, each pioneer will receive a ransom of 5000 gold marks,
and up to 100 acres of fertile land in any Kingdom they desire.
Take heed, Adventurers! These are dangerous times!

Spoiler: The SettingThe War of The Ancients nearly split this newborn world apart. Gods and Titans released their untamed potential in flurries of creation and destruction that ran unchecked for centuries, leaving the mortal races in a state of fear and helplessness. Mindless beasts, and twisted monsters ruled the lands, and even united, all the races were beginning to fail. Then, suddenly it all stopped. Gods and Titans that had walked the earth had simply vanished, taking with them the power and leadership of the creatures they commanded. Hope began to shine on this dark, and broken world.
That was many centuries ago, the rapid development of magic and science helping to drive back the hordes of monsters and dark forces, now only passing threats that seem all but vanquished entirely. Alliances between the Prime Races and their Empires have crumbled, and conquest has become the main driving force. This holds especially true for the Human Empire, for they now have castles and outposts on the far edges of the tamed continent. Many of the other races now see the human Empire as a potential threat, as war and feud begin to spread over the lands, and their reach expands ever further.
Now, an unknown threat has awakened on the Eastern borders of the Empire, and the kingdoms are too involved with fighting each other to pay it any serious attention. Two trading outposts on a lake bordering the forest far to the East have been lost. Missing Trade caravans, couriers, and even a small platoon of infantry have traveled to the outpost and never returned. Fort Greywall has sent a request throughout all the kingdoms for help in reclaiming the lost outposts, but for the Empire, two obscure outposts hold very little importance. A bounty has been posted, open to any and all adventurers willing to aid in Fort Greywall's mission, with a surprisingly hefty reward for success. Will you join for fame? fortune? or doom...

Traits and Personality: Orion is a well-known, yet enigmatic figure. While most of his time is spent traveling alone, most people have heard of him, or legends about him. His unnaturally bright hair and eyes make him quite recognizable, so he rarely visits large cities. A usually distant look in his eyes betrays the inner sadness and turmoil, though he usually tries to be cheerful and kind to the people around him. He travels often, and dresses for utility, rather than for battle or show. Simple traveling apparel, a drab cloak, and light leather armor. He is not quick to anger, or any strong emotional reaction. Quiet and reserved, he is content to stay out of the general bustle and interaction of society, until he is needed or called upon. His past has ensured many enemies, and very few friends. To those few that Orion calls "Friend", his loyalty is immeasurable and unwavering. He can be stubborn and practical to a fault, though, his straightforward thinking and razor sharp focus sometimes blinding him to alternative ideas or points of view. He struggles to be open-minded and often misses anything less than obvious.
Weapons and Magic: Orion carries with him a mysterious, shape-shifting sword. The enchantments on the blade and hilt are so numerous and ancient, the Kingdom's Archsage couldn't begin to decipher its potential abilities and dangers. Besides the ability to shape-shift according to the will of its wielder, the most obvious characteristics of this sword are not being able to be sheathed, and taking a heavy toll when wielded.
Bio: Orion doesn't truly know his heritage. He was raised in the southern plains by a peaceful, nomadic tribe, known as the Cloud Chasers. His younger years were spent in the simple life's routine of following the migratory paths of various avian species, and kept a close bond with his surrogate father, Konis the One-Winged, a crippled elder of his tribe. Konis would tell him little about how he found Orion, or how he lost his arm, saving him from a strange beast. Only that he was a special little hatchling from a far away nest.
Misfortune fell around his 14th birthday, as his whole tribe, and many others were forcibly adopted by a kingdom of the ruling Empire for the Human race. Drafted into this kingdoms army, Orion adapted many of his skills of survival into fighting prowess, surpassing all of the other recruits and some of the masters in just a couple years. He was quickly placed in the Kingdoms most advanced and effective scouting units, where he was met with a terrible disaster that changed everything. During routine sweep of a newly discovered tomb, his unit found an ancient, cursed relic. To this day, Orion blames himself for the death of the young men and women that were with him, for he awoke outside the tomb, covered in their blood and a powerful sword clutched tightly in his hand. Strange voices whispering in his mind.
Succumbing to the confusion, guilt, and pain, he gave himself wholly to the fury and rage of battle. Wherever the Empire sent him, the battles were decisive and brutal beyond belief, Orion's sword, cleaving the way to victory. With a growing reputation, and increasing skill with the blade, Orion became a tool that many kingdoms sought to use. While this turned out to be very lucrative, his face-to-face dealings with power-hungry and treacherous royalty, began to make Orion quite resentful of the whole thing. So he left the warpath, and began searching for answers. His heritage, the strange cursed weapon, and the forces that ruled his fate... he is no longer content to battle with enemies, when the greatest struggle he faces is within himself.

Name: M’tev (Pronounced MEH-teve)
Age: 210
Race: Nix - Male equivalent of Nymph, races known for their unmatched, tear jerking beauty. Both are hidden and exotic forest Fae that keep to their respective race and populate through large magical flowers that birth them as they bloom, their mother the forests itself. Comingling is rare, sexual reproduction between the two is unheard of. Neither have left the forests.
Their skin and silver colored blood sparkle. They do not age, and Nix’s appearances can vary from handsome to pretty, though they are always beardless and eternally young. Their eyes are unusual colors much more like Elves, showing their innate magical qualities.
The blood of a Nix is a powerful spell component.
Appearance: M’tev is a small and dainty creature, only five feet and three inches and hardly weighing a pound over one hundred. Nixe (Nix plural) are known for their great beauty, as their female counterparts, Nymph are. M’tev shows his heritage in his golden, silk like hair, breathtakingly fair face, and olive skin that softly glitters. His eyes are captivating: two beauty marks under the corner of his right eye, long lashes and sparkling amethyst color. His body shape is androgynous, the curves of a woman at the waist and hip, yet his shoulders still slightly wider with a flat chest.

Traits and Personality: M’tev is a being of intimacy, exploring the things that would make others uncomfortable, unearthing emotional truths people often run from. He is an emotional being but will be charming through light hearted social grace and wit at first. Though long causal conversation bores him.
M’tev has little patience for those who cannot control themselves around him. Those who flatter him from the start quickly bore him, respecting a strong mind and will. There is an air of dignity around him that is simultaneously erotic yet proud: someone to gaze at, but to not touch.
M’tev’s weakness for alcohol can get him into trouble, saying and doing things he shouldn’t or allowing others to do things he wouldn’t normally. Oddly enough, alcohol makes him an angry drunk. He will quickly give the cold shoulder to those who have wronged him, a passionate person who can eventually forgive but never forget.
Magic also tempts M’tev, quickly impressed and even attracted to powerful spell casters. There is a wanderlust that courses through him, always urging him to explore, even into dangerous situations.
Magic: M’tev dabbles into exotic and strange magic. Using the sparkling, spilled, silver blood of his Fey body, it empowers what he can do. M’tev’s craft focuses around enchantments and illusion.
His enchantments are a rare gift, seldom used, even for himself. M’tev has achieved feats such as give weapons and armor magical properties, even living things. This is an extremely taxing form of magic that can give great benefits if used wisely.
The extent of his illusionary ability is strong, able to conjure grand, phantom creatures to terrify, alter the appearance of an area within a fifty foot radius and at his strongest can induce targets into a coma where they endure endless nightmares.
Through sex, M’tev is able to cleanse and heal his partners of aliments and wounds with the use of the powerful energy exchange between lovers.
Equipment & Combat Abilities: M’tev covers himself with a black hooded cloak, often keeping the hood down for his long hair. Under the cover of the cloak he wears a form fitting purple velvet robe that deeply V cuts down his chest to the waist and at the legs parts up at the middle almost to his groin. The sleeves are loose and extend down this his wrists with simple silver embroidery all along the edges. The attire is revealing, yet magically enchanted to protect the wearer from the severity of nature, keeping him clean, dry and comfortably warm. On his feet are gladiator sandals, with black leather straps.
M’tev is nimble and acrobatic and uses a magically enchanted walking staff made of old and smoothed wood. Its appearance mundane but capable of extraordinary feats: unable to be broken by physical means, shape shift into a cloud of ravens that follow M’tev’s will, and can glow a strong white light as strong as any torch. It also dubs as his weapon of choice, gracefully whirling it around, his strikes precise but not very strong.
M’tev carries a dagger with a silver snake head hilt, sheathed in the folds of his robes at the waist. It has been enchanted to heal once it cuts. This is the instrument he uses to wound himself for blood magic and is a terrible offensive weapon for obvious reasons.
Bio: M’tev was born in the forest, as is the fate of all Nixe. He spent years growing among his people, the rivers, waterfalls, trees and animals. The decades of tranquility passed, but something compelled M’tev to look to the forest’s borders and wonder what was beyond. He never found another who shared his interest in what was beyond, all each enveloped in the peace they had now. And in a way, his own people became a bore, never wanting to know what was beyond their daily lives.
Fleeing his own people, M’tev encountered races he never could have dreamed of. In his adventures he found many lovers, plenty of which were academics who each sprinkled knowledge of magic to him. It was the darker, more taboo crafts that appealed to him, and he was easily able to find a lover who delved into the darkness behind closed doors. His life became a pattern of sex and blood as he enveloped himself into the world the sorcerer showed him. As they explored their bodies, they explored their powers and a reality none would face.
It was this dark magician that was able to hold M’tev’s attention, and his heart for thirty years before another apprentice and fellow bedmate was caught practicing and ratted out his master. The sorcerer was chased off, M’tev feigning innocence to escape.
Since then the Nix continued to practice on his own, unable to find someone who could compel him to stay to any one place…

Name: Mathias Flint
20 years old, 6ft. 2, 160 lbs.
Human, male
General Appearance: Not incredibly muscular, but fit. Dark brown hair, not very long. Amber eyes. His right arm and the left side of his face have been replaces with crude machinery of his own design, powered by magic.
Personality: Mathias is very easy to get along with. He's always ready to help out and lend a hand where he can. Although, if he feels as though he's been cheated or lied to, he will almost always seek vengeance. Mathias can be very blunt at times, speaking what is on his mind without perception of the consequences. He is light-hearted, can take a joke, and is a tad bizzare.
Weapons and Magic: Mathias is usually wearing a set of light leather armor, which includes a cuirass, a spaulder over his left shoulder, a bracer on his left arm, and greaves on his legs. He is also fond of his long brown travel coat and his black, wide-brimmed hat.
Mathias likes to use a combination of both melee combat and magic while he fights. He carries with him an obsidian-bladed glaive, and ornate obsidian mace, and an old bronze sickle which is attached to his right arm.
As a fairly new warlock, Mathias does not know many spells, and he prefers to use offensive spells, the more destructive the better. His favourite spell is a discharge of green lightning from his right arm. Another is casting a flurry of either acidic or poisonous quills, depending on the situation.
Bio: Mathias lived in a small coastal town, and comes from a long line of blacksmiths and tinkerers. Naturally, the urge to build and create is strong within him. When he lost his arm and half of his face in an accident that involved a donkey, a loaded crossbow, a lit match and some old silverware, replacing the lost body parts was a simple matter. One day, as he was walking by the shore, he came across a bronze sickle, the blade etched with runes that glowed a pale green. He kept it, then went about his duties for the day. That night, Mathias was visited in a dream by a powerful entity, offering him knowledge and power. In return, the being only demanded that Mathias bring it new knowledge, should he find any in his travels. Mathias readily agreed, and that morning he attached the pact-blade to his right arm and set off in search of knowledge and adventure!

Hair: Dark auburn

Race: Half-elf
Traits and Personality: Sagara grew up an orphan for the most part. She is distrustful of most and strongly believes that people, humans especially, make choices based on what they can gain. Deep down she has a soft heart despite a prickly personality. She doesn't venture to make friends unless she can make some coin. On the other hand she does like a rowdy tavern from time to time. She knows all the drinking songs and can keep up with men twice her size. She, stupidly, never backs down from fights or conflict, even if she's about to get beat. The only time she'll go out of her way to help someone is if they can't help themselves.
Weapons and Magic: Sagara, despite her heritage doesn't have any magic that she knows of. She can feel it in others from time to time, but even that is unreliable. She uses a sword and recently purchased a leather breast plate. She is adaptable and usually her weapon is anything that is handy to the point of out of the box. Her adaptability is her greatest asset.
Bio: Sagara was four when her mother died of disease in an already poor part of the city. She never knew her elf father and was never told about him. Her grandfather attempted to force her into child labor within the same year. She doesn't remember much about that, she was too young, but whatever happened she carries burn scars on her shoulders she keeps hidden. She was kicked out at six, or maybe she ran, either way she only half remembers it.
What she does remember is the street and other street kids. She was smaller than the others and her heritage hurt her when it came to ever finding friends. Friends wanted something anyway, so she thieved, fought, and clawed her way into puberty where she covered her hair in dirt to hide the bright color. She worked a few odd and end jobs, most of the time being mistaken for a thin boy, who hauled wood, shoveled coal, and turned dye vats.
As she got older work was harder and harder to come by unless she wanted to turn herself out, a fate that was worse than death in her eyes. So instead she has been working with pawn brokers in less than legal work. She has an eye for what is worth what, that is until she comes across the invitation to put her skills to the test for a true fortune

Name: Robyn Tel’Doltelme
Age: 286 (looks around 24)

Hair: Light Blonde and shoulder length
Eyes: Deep blue (the one she has)
Race: Elf (high-wood elf mix)
Traits and Personality: Robyn’s general manner is reserved and stand-offish, as she doesn’t give her trust easy, and she believes actions are stronger than words. Though she understands that talking and an exchange of words is all that some situations need, she judges people by how they act and what they do than what words they say. If one can earn her trust, they will find her friendly and even humorous at times, plus she becomes very loyal and will defeat and protect her friends no matter what….. so may the gods help anyone who hurts a friend of hers!
Though she comes across as a seriously careful warrior, she seems to contradict that feeling by plunging headlong in the most dangerous and dark situations without much of a pause, and quite often during those times she becomes nearly grimly determined and her most unpredictable.
With those she trusts and respects, she can be fairly open and will answer most questions directly…. except those about her eye and how she lost it….. those make her grow silent or she answers them short and vaguely.
Weapons and Magic: Her main weapon is an elven longbow (all the power and distance of a regular one but fitted to the shorter stature of elves) but hers is of high quality make and has an enchanted gem in it that restores her depth-perception and such that her lost eye would normally hamper.
She also possesses a magic quiver that holds around a hundred arrows, in which she has store arrows of different makes, featherings and head types, and all it takes is a mere whisper of what she wants for those arrows to be the ones ready for drawing.
The last magic item she carries for a reminder of the carelessness that caused her to lose an eye, of her vow, and as a last resort weapon……. A strange black arrow with even darker feathering and a wickedly barbed head, engraved with a fanged serpents head. The arrow seems indestructible, it never seems to break or show any sign of damage when used, and appears to be permanently infused with a fast and highly deadly poison. She rarely uses it, only when no other option is possible and/or a life/lives hang in the balance, as it not only means certain death for the target, but also, while short, a greatly painful death from the poison.
Her last weapon is a dagger, which she normal uses to carve shafts to make arrows with, but can use to fight with if she can use her bow…. Rare as her agility and skill make her able to use her bow in pretty close quarters.
Outside of the normal abilities of elves, infavision and high immunity to sleep and charm magic, she possesses no innate magical skills, though her skill at stealth makes a few think she uses magic.
Bio: Robyn was born into a family in high standing of elven society and was destine for a life of an elven high lady, but though her family’s position put them mostly above the hardships, she grew up during much of the world’s recovery from the War of Ancients. It bothered and upset her that those in charge spent their time discussing and debating things while the creatures left behind by the war ravaged the elf lands and killed many elves and others. When she was old enough (80 years being the equalling of turning 16) she grabbed her favourite bow and some supplies, headed out in the land to do her part to protect the elven kingdom.
She proved herself skilled as an archer and so joined the Vaninrim-Dae, the infamous elven scouts and foresters who had become well known for their efforts to settle and secure the borders of the elven lands, even reputed to be responsible for making many of the dangerous creatures from the war into nothing more than legends. Though much of her time was just patrolling and checking the woods and borders, she saw enough action and was involved in a number of skirmishes to hone her skills with her bow as well as in woodcraft. She loved it, for she felt she was doing something to make things better, and enjoy the high praise the Vaninrim-Dae got; in fact she saw it almost as a fun game.
Two things forced some reality on her world of glory, one being the sudden expanding and intrusions of the human kingdoms, which started to invade and take over some of the elven lands, making the borders very hot and contested places. And again she watched as the diplomats on both sides talked and discussed events but did nothing to stop or even slow the invasion of their lands, making her even more believe that actions were truer that words….. seeing the humans as liars who promised much but still attempted to steal their lands.
The second thing was an incident that charged her ‘view’ greatly. Robyn was on a solo patrol in an enchanted forest when she heard a frightening cry and went to investigate, following the echoing cry to a small clearing. What she saw shocked her, for lying in the middle of the clearing was a Yaara Nimras (an elder unicorn), dead, its side swollen and discoloured where it was pierced by a great black arrow….. meaning someone had deliberately killed it, an unheard of act of the most evil and vile nature. As she moved towards it, she heard a sound of something in the nearby bushes, and figuring it might be the killer, loosed two arrows in the direction even as she turned that way. She was sure she hit the target as there was a sound like something getting hurt, followed by sounds of movement quickly disappearing into the trees and underbrush, so she took off in pursuit. In a heated rush, she followed a dark blood trail and the occasional sounds of crashing through underbrush, till suddenly both ended, making her think she’d lost the trail somehow and with it the killer. Trumping about desperately trying to find the trail again, she too late realized that who or whatever it was had stopped to hide, for as she turned catching movement behind her, the last thing her left eye ever saw was a sharp curved blade coming right at it. Blood and pain blinding her, see luckily stumbled down the side of a ravine, likely saving her from a killing blow but letting the killer escape.
Robyn’s carelessness and stupidity had cost her an eye, and left her with a long scar on her face, something she learned well from, and having pulled the strange arrow from the unicorn, she swore a Vesta En’Qualmuva(vow of vengeance). The playful and bright young elf was gone, all about her noting the hard and serious warrior she’d become, and how at times she would show a grim and dark determination on some missions.
With the human kingdoms now on a shaky peace, and the invading of their lands mostly stopped, Robyn decided to wander some and has been on a lone path for the last few years……

Full name: Liaskar Fea'rishaka Siagnisa Se Synea (translated more or less as "He that slinks, of the dark elder race, of the family of Liaskar)

Bio: The dark elves are the race that predated even the more commonly known fae folk such as elves, fairies, etc. They come from the birth of the world, before the rains cooled the earth and there was growth. Despised by all, and despising in turn, they are the prototype of every nightmare, every story told to bring children into line, every dark legend. Yet, in practice, their default situation is to hide, and not to harm. Their only desire is to be left alone. As, until the world became populated with other sentient beings, and history began, they were.
Yet the High Queen, Harik'essa knows that now there is a threat to the world. And hated and reviled as they are, only the dark ones might, she feels, save it. So she sends as an ambassador the unwilling and resentful scion of the Liaskers. They are a clan so steeped in fearful magic even other dark elves do not trust them. And Fea'rishaka is an outcast even from his own. He can control all dark, unpleasant things. Bats, rats, mold, slime, the dead leaves and barks of trees, rust, worms and grubs. And his eyes are so hypnotic that he can freeze into fear anyone who might wish him harm. His choice was simple. Redeem himself by doing the Queen's bidding, or face a light sentence of imprisonment, for the various sleazy things he has done (which he will never talk about - but if the dark elves think they are repulsive, you don't want to even guess!) By the way, a light sentence of imprisonment is a mere 100 years, with perhaps a month off for good behavior. A meaningless phrase for him, since the concept of good behavior is unknown to him.
Good qualities: None.
Redeeming features: A refreshing lack of hypocrisy, and the ability to think on his feet.
Magical abilities: Controlling as he does all "unpleasant" things, he is very hard to hurt. Anything nearby is grist to his mill. He can call upon a swarm of bats, or insects, to mob you. Order every rat within a hundred yards to attack you. If your sword has the slightest element of rust in it, he can cause that to swell and engulf the entire sword almost instantaneously. Got a lock with a single point of rust? He can turn it to powder in a second.
Magical weaknesses: Distance is a big one. His control of the meaner things like rust, mold, insects, rats, etc is limited to the reach of his mind. Say, practically, about 100 yards or so. And use of his power weakens him, so he will use it only when he has to. Really strong sunlight weakens him further. A couple of day's hard marching across a shadeless desert will see him reduced to the strength of a not especially tough human.
Finally, there is the compulsion of lust. If he conceives any kind of attraction to a member of a species not his own, he is unable to avoid protecting them, whether they need it or not. Even if this contradicts his own survival chances. And even if he doesn't want to! This curse/trait was originally placed on his race to ensure that beauty as well as strength features in natural selection... a dark one is less likely to make a tree wither if it's beautiful. Over the generations, this has evolved in ways that were not originally planned. In a sense, a dark elf is twisted kind of romantic...
Bad qualities (amongst many others): Dabbles in dark sorcery, steals anything not tied down. It is said he will have sex with anything with a pulse, but this is an evil lie. He refuses to limit himself in this way.

Just gonna use this image. It is important to note that her only notable physical feature that may indicate any "fiendish" or "impish" origin about her, is her lizard like big tail, which swoops about, depending on her mood.

Traits and Personality:
She acts very much like a street cat. She doesn't trust easily and she doesn't get too close. She is wise, and has some very good instincts and quick reflexes, but she is not very intelligent... She can be somewhat even naive.
That of course would explain her fear of the unknown and of her silly faith in superstitions.
She likes to travel light, and cares about the near future. She never plans too much, and relay mostly in herself.
She is easy to get angry or upset, Her tail will flip like crazy, her body will actually boil and grow hotter, but, if stopped soon enough, she can cool herself down just as quickly too.
Skills/Abilities:
Shanni is a master of the thievery art and her blood heritage gives her access to abilities reserves only to the shadows and demons.
Her body is immune to many diseases and ailment, and has has a high tolerance to toxin, which includes but not limited to alcohol.
Because her body temperature is usually higher than normal humans, she can bear up with a strong cold.
Comes dark, she is able to melt away and hide in the shadows, her eyes enable her to see better at night, and her nails and fangs are strong enough to actually wreck wood and stone.
Picking a lock is an easy job to her, and she is a master of stalking and can backstab people like a true assassin.
She is an agile fighter, who can climb and out run some small animals.
Equipment & Combat Abilities:
She is a powerful combatant. Being able to swiftly stab and kick, she makes use of her body and makes each hit count. Her fighting style is like a dance of wind. Her dexterity is amazing, and her attacks almost always hit home.
However, she is not physically strong, and may wear herself in a long, dragged out battle. Because of this, she prefers to finish her quarrels fast.
She doesn't like to deal with heavy weapons, so she usually carries with her many small knives and her two twins katar, which she sheath in pods over her belts.
She always have potions and herbs in the ready, and she knows how to make snares and poisons.
She doesn't like to equip herself with much armor (and usually just carry small gear, as appeared in the image above).
Bio:
Shanni is a tiefling, but, as much as many likes to speculate, her parents were pretty much normal humans. They say someone in her far forgotten tree of the family was of demonish origin, but the genes and traits of it hardly appeared in all of her family members (last known case was her grandmother from the side of the father).
Her name means "Crimson", and probably was been given to her because of her hair color, which is so red it almost resembles blood.
Both her parents died from a terrible plague to which she appeared to be immune, when she was very little.
No one really bothered to find a close blood relative of her and she ended up being picked by a local noble man, who ran a guild, that secretly been dealing with smuggling. As her abilities manifest and her innate potential was growing, she was giving most of the jobs that were reserves for the man's top agent.
At this point in her life she decided to go solo and joined guilds left and right, taking on jobs as a freelancer and yet receiving some protection in return
