[OOC/Recruiting] Hotel For Homeless Haunts [PG-13]

This RP is rated PG-13 and will operate to the exact allowable limit of such rating

My computer isn't that good, so I would need a lot of self-regulation when it comes to enforcing the policies of this specific RP. It is currently a working title (the most descriptive possible for recruiting purposes) I am open to suggestions for a better title, once we get the plot rolling.

With the passing of All Hallow's Eve and All Souls Day, I thought it was fit to do a ghost themed RP. I wish to put a realistic spin on it, therefore it only fits barely within the genre of fantasy. The setting is a hostel which is operated by my PC to care for the down and out. Unknown to her, or many others there, they are no longer part of the world of the living. The homeless haunts have all been exercised (or "evicted", according to them).

Spoiler: The Code Of The Spirits 

• Spirits are unaware of their own death, unless otherwise told
• As they were in life, they are in death
• As they are familiar with or wish, they see
• A spirit may not enter a place or person unless otherwise invited
• Just as the veil into the world of the dead rarely lifts, so does the veil into the world of the living
• Cats and dogs are extremely sensitive to the spirit world and would act with abounding affection towards any spirit they are (or were in their lifetime) familiar with, and fear and avoidance towards those who are strangers to them.
• A spirit may depart Earth once sins are atoned for and/or their last dying wish has been fulfilled
• A ghost is a spirit without a body and a zombie is a body without a spirit. To combine the two shall bring air back into one's lungs.

Since the point of this RP is "never to discount the supernatural", I will allow for the existence of other beings, however there are limits. Please note that these beings are not the focus of this RP and since the ghosts see themselves as

Spoiler: Other Beings 

Vampires -- These are based on Serbian folktale rather than popular culture. The most famous vampires are only works of fiction meant to be propaganda against the Romanians in a time of political strife between Serbia and Romania.

Werewolves (and other were creatures) -- Are solitary and are usually in deep hiding. It is rare to come across one as humans have intentionally tried to drive them into extinction. They are of two natures with both the spirit of a human and the spirit of their animal sharing a body, therefore they have a constant conflict of identity. The few that remain stay far away from established society and live as hermits and bushmen. Werewolves, being part dog, are very sensitive to the world of spirits and would act with either great familiarity/friendship with those they know (as they have the spirit and behavior of a wolf), even if they are wronged, and they would act with greater terror than a typical human around unfamiliar spirits.

Demons -- Malevolent spirits without a corresponding body. They seek to wreck havoc and pull people away from Christendom. They are masters of lies and deception and often take the form of physically attractive humans.

Incubus/Succubus -- There are two classes here. Incubus (to lie on top) seek to spread their own seed, children who they seed come out deformed and mentally incapable. Succubus (to lie beneath) are hermaphroditic, they appear as attractive females to collect the seed of a man and then become a male to spread that particular seed to a woman.

Thanatos -- The angel of death, many see him as a dark shadowy figure, but in fact he is a simple old farmer who collects the souls sewn by man. He an angle and an agent of the Christian God, acting as Heaven's version of Charon.

Zombies -- Bodies without spirits, it is rare for them to be aroused from the dead. As they do not have a spirit, they do not have to abide by the code of the spirits. If a ghost is able to reunite with their corresponding zombie, they shall be restored to life. Or so the old untested myth goes.

Nymphs -- There are two major types of nymphs, nyrads and dryads. Nyrads are the spirits of the trees, not every tree has one but many do, they love to dance and sing. Many humans have felt them but have passed them off as a gust of wind. There are also the Dryads who are the water nymphs, they are the spirits of the river, ponds and lakes, they love to bathe, sing and hang out with other dryads. As goes their tree or stream as goes the nymph, once the tree is cut down, river dammed or lake dried, the spirit of them will die.

Deities -- All gods are real, but only one is true. Many of these are demons with elevated roles, others are merely spirits who were revered by some small tribe and never left. The only power they have is what is given to them. Whether they are the gods of Hellenism or some small niche sect, they exist on this earth, whether at large or imprisoned.

There are three types of hauntings:

1. Attached to a person -- this ghost lingers around someone in particular, most likely thier killer or a business successor. They are their personal pest.
2. Attached to a place -- this ghost remains (or was supposed to remain) in a certain location of significance to them. Possibly as a caretaker or guardian.
3. Attached to an item -- this ghost enchants an item of particular importance to them in their lifetime.

There is one more thing to be aware with. Once a spirit reaches awareness of their condition, they can participate in an act more intimate than sexuality called "the communion of the spirits". Whereas sex is body within body, this communion is soul within soul. It is treated with an even higher reverence than sexuality itself. It can happen between two spirits or a spirit and a willing living human. If a spirit manages to reenter the world of the living after experiencing this connection, their view of sexuality will be guaranteed to change:

Spoiler: Responses to The Communion of the Spirits 

1. Because they see sexuality as meaningless, they no longer see it as a worthy goal to achieve, thus becoming apathetic towards it (move towards chastity) OR
2. because they see sexuality as meaningless, they feel free to engage in the act because it has lost all value (move towards promiscuity) OR
3. They see sexuality as the next closest thing to this previous connection that they have had and treat it with extreme care and reverence (move towards chastity)

Character Sheet, player character, greater setting detail and plot elements to follow in my next post. Expect a very detailed character sheet (as one's life dictates one's after life). Human and ghost characters are both allowed, but remember that the veil between the two worlds do not lift too high or too often.

Thank you, it is my first big RP in about 6 months (I am still semi on hiatus)

The setting is Kingston, Ontario -- Present Day (or whatever era your character sees). I chose this because it has the most to be haunted. The Jail, the School, the Mental Hospital, the Fort... there is such a rich history there that I cannot pass it up.

Plot is open ended to start, conflict will rise based on the cast. I will start nudging the plot as soon as character and setting has been established in the IC thread.

The majority of the character sheet applies to ghosts, most can be omitted if you are not playing a spiritual being.

Appearance: She is an average built blonde curly hair that is ever so slightly frizzed. She wears a navy dress and is commonly seen with her blanket draped over her shoulders as a shawl.
Birth date/Death date: 1832-1852
Current age or age at death: 20
Religion: Roman Catholic
Biography when alive: Bridget was born in 1832 in Sligo, Ireland. She had a rough childhood, eventually her family became famine emigrants, and in 1840 she left for British North America with her parents and younger brother. However things did not get any easier on the other side of the ocean. Her brother, William contracted pox on the trip over and the family was quarantined. William soon surname to the disease, several months the family spent cooped up in a little sick shack in Bytown, not even capable of giving William a proper burial, he instead went into an unmarked plot in a potter's field. Eventually they got out and went down to the lawless abode of King's Town where they were met with great prejudice by the United Empire Loyalists who were already there. There, the family set up a hotel and inn. Bridget worked the front counter while her parents managed the establishment. She loved to dance and played cards while socializing with patrons, much to the dismay of her parents. In 1847 a fire broke out, presumably arson which claimed the life of both parents, leaving Bridget on the streets. The only thing she managed to grab was a blanket. She tried as hard as possible not to become a lady of the streets, although propositioned constantly she would not lower herself to those standards. She never lost her love of dance. Eventually she was picked up and imprisoned, her only crime was being poor. In those days record keeping was poor, and with no family to cry outrage, she was summarily hung in order to prevent overcrowding. The other inmates would assume that she was free, and no one on the outside cared.
Cause of death: Execution by hanging
Biography once dead: She returned to the hotel, now restored. She vowed to continue the business and atone for her sins (in her parents' mind at least) of card playing and moderate alcohol use. She opened a hostel for those less fortunate and without a home.

I have found that Anime fans have tried to hijack role-plays before. It is possible to add your fandom into this RP but it has to be done in a specific way. First off, if you want a character of Asian origin, they have to have a reason for being in North America. Was it a Japanese girl who died of an infection in a WWII internment camp? Was it a Chinese laborer who lost his life in an explosion while working on building the railway?

Also you may incorporate elements of Japanese folklore in this RP as long as they are not too invasive. Is the hare in the garden actually a Moon Rabbit? Is the fox in the forest really a Kitsune? Is the demon actually an Oni?

Appearance: Quite attractive, with long auburn hair tied into a bun at the nape of her neck. She has small shoulders, her bosom a bit on the small side, with a narrow waist and large hips. Her eyes still sparkle their green hue, and her alabaster skin is dotted with small freckles, covering her nose and cheeks in the highest concentrations. She wears a modest black dress, the sleeves pushed up, so you can see her strong, muscular forearms. She has a very faint smile, though her eyes look simple melancholy.
Birth date/Death date: January 13th, 1610 - August 3rd, 1629.
Current age or age at death: 19.
Religion: Formerly Protestant.
Biography when alive: "A week ago a maiden of nineteen was executed, of whom it is everywhere said that she was the fairest in the whole city, and was held by everybody a girl of singular modesty and purity. " Amelie was a young women, who was pious and chaste, her devotion to her religion well known throughout her town of Würzburg. She was a protestant, And when the young suitors of the village would fawn over her she'd simply walk on her way. She was devoted to her dying father, saying she would not marry until he had passed on. She took care of the farm, did the daily chores, and even went to go do her father's business in town. It was then when she was accused by one of the "witches" that were burned, and while walking to the well she was seized and thrown into a cellar to await "trial".. Not surprisingly, she was found guilty of witchcraft like all the rest before her and sentenced to be burned at the stake. When led to her pyre, she did not accuse any others like many of her fellow "witches".. instead, she started to recite the 23d Psalm, and as she was burned she kept repeating it until she was too burnt to speak, dying in a most horrific and undeserved way.
Cause of death: (Sorry, kinda explained this in her biography :P)
Biography once dead: Following her death, she suddenly noticed her floating out of her body. She thought she was being raptured, that her life of devotion to God and her father was finally realized. Instead, she found herself stuck in place, unable to float any further from the Marienkapelle church, in front of which the burning had took place. Angry, she stormed into the church and in her first real moment of wickedness, started to rip up the many bibles found in the church. She threw paint onto the pews, lobbed rocks at the windows. She continued to haunt the Church for 6 years, until she was exorcised by a Priest who wished rest for her soul. But there was no rest for her spirit now.. She slowly floated the next few days, unaware of where her body was taking her. She half-wished she was on her way to heaven, but she had little faith in her religion now. She found herself in this Hostel, and rang the bell on the register. "Where am I?" She asked. "Home." replied a gentle, warm voice.
Type of haunt: (Person, place, thing): Previously Place, now confined to the property of the Hostel.
Who/where/what?: The Church Of Our Lady, a church in Würzburg, Germany.

When I get my full powers, I will send you a message as far as if I will be unable to post for any period of time; I used to go on a site called Chatango so it was more instant than forum chats but I've been role playing my entire life, and there's never been anything in my life more constant. Besides, I want to be able to customize my profile so I want to post as much as possible :P Is there a way to pin this thread to my account so I don't have to hunt for it everytime?
