Personality: Griffin is observant, perceptive and curious. Since he became Tal-Vasoth he has worked to make up for lost time. He enjoys trying new meals and seeing new places. Though he is still suspicious of new people. Some aspects of ones life and training are hard to leave behind.
Background: This one was a portly child. This caused no end of problems for his Tamassrans. They kept a close eye on his diet, he ate no more then his 'brothers and sisters.' They did not understand, how a child who was given the same treatment as the others was consistantly heavier then his 'siblings.' They tried adjustinghis portions so he would recieve less then the others. And instead of losing weight it seemed instead he gained it. At wits end and with no other options the Tamassrans turned to the Ben-Hassrath.
Believing someone had decided the child was theirs the Ban-Hassrath placed watchers around the childs home. It was a few nights after the intial placement of the Ben-Hassrath watchers that one of them spotted movement in the kitchen of a nearby household, one of several that had reported problems of vermin. The watcher, slipped from her perch to investigate.
She discovered a portly child in the kitchen. Upon Seeing an unfamilar woman the child told her he had been sleeping and was awoken by a noise in the kitchen. Had she not have been placed to watch the house because of this child, and had he not had crumbs upon his lip it would have been a convincing lie.
The child was removed from the home he was currently residing in, and transferred to a house filled with Viddathari children. This forced the child to learn the common language to better communicate with his new 'brothers and sisters.' Here a closer eye was kept upon the child.
Unable to sneak into the kitchens to get the extra food he habitually snuck, and participating in the more rigorous physical training regimen used to help distract the children new to the Qun, the child lost his extra weight and replaced it with muscle mass. Muscle mass he used to stop fellow children from bullying his 'siblings.'
When the child turned twelve and he was to be assigned his role the Tamassrans had much to consider. The boys skill with the common tongue; his ability to lie; his skill in stealth; and his willingness to fight; made him a perfect canidate to join the Ben-Hassrath. At the age of 17 his training complete his skill proven he was reassigned to Kont-Aar in norther Rivain.
Here he was known to the locals as a trapper and herb collector, the alchemist who bought his herbs was his handler. In truth the youth was a scout and spy, slipping through the countryside seeking information on those who ruled the lands surrounding Kont-Aar. Occasionally he was tasked to kill an individual that resided in his area of operation and was a threat to the settlement, or the Qun.
Three years into his life behind the mask of a trapper, the youth was sent to the free marches to meet with other Ben-Hassrath. They were gathered because of rumors surrounding a group of Carta dwarves who had discovered how to make and sell Gaatlok. Further rumors claimed the dwarves had already contacted a Tevinter Magister to provide him with the explosive black powder. The Ben-Hassrath needed to know the truth of the rumors and expected a fight.
A guide was hired to lead the strike team to the carta's hidden base in the deep roads. The Ben-Hassrath, as well as the guide, were unaware when the picked up a trail of darkspawn. They spotted the Carta ambush in time to avoid being overwhelmed, yet the clash of steel on steel and the scent of fresh blood pulled the darkspawn into the battle.
The untainted were routed, and the youth seperated from his fellows. He wandered the underdarkbarely avoiding the darkspawn as the taint burned in his blood. The youth some how found his was back to the surface. His emergence was seen by a few children from a nearby village. As they fled from the horned monster from under the ground the qunari youth found a place to rest.
As he lay dying the youth considered his life, remembering the only time he experianced real happiness was as a child. Sneaking out of his home and taking food, not because he was hungry but because it was fun. He thought about the meals he would take at the various taverns and inns he would eavesdrop in. And he realized how empty his life had been. His eyes opened as he heard a body rush into the small clearing. Silver eyes met brown as a Grey Warden recruiter eyed the dying Qunari.
The recruiter expecting an ogre was pleasantly surprised to instead find himself facing a Qunari. Recognizing the others ailment the recruiter explained the possibilities. Either the young man would die a painful death, or go mad and end up working alongside the darkspawn. The recruiter then explained that as a Grey Warden the young man could survive, but would be unable to return to his past life. Leaving the youth with two choices. Become a Grey Warden, or recieve a quick merciful death.
Again the Youth considered his life, or lack of one. He then considered everything he had heard about the grey wardens, their tales of heroism and legend. The youth knows that when no Gaatlok is used by tevinter and none of his companions return they will all be thought dead. And so the youth made his decision.
That day the youth died, and someone new was born. Someone who could hope to experiance happiness, someone who could hope to try delicaies from far lands. Someone who could create a legend of his own. When the Warden asked his Tal-Vasoth Recruit his name the larger man pointed at the symbol of the Wardens and asked what it was. Upon hearing the name the Tal-Vasoth nodded and said, "My name is Griffin."
In the intervening 11 years Griffin picked up the nickname Grif, gave himself a last name and proved his skill in stealth and with his preferred blades against Bandits, mercenaries hired to chase off a troublesome warden, and Darkspawn. When the call came three years ago that Warden-Commander Raziel Cousland needed Wardens with experiance Grif volunteered to join those being sent to fill the Commanders ranks.
