    Default (M) Destiny's Deck: Fate's Hand.

Rated M for possible mature content including sex, violence, language, graphic situations, and drug use.

Recruitment is now closed, this has gotten very big very fast and gotta make sure we have even sides.

    Destiny's Deck: Fate's Hand

Play the hand dealt you by Fate.

    The IC is up here.

Plot:Everyone loves a carnival, the food, the rides, the games of chance, and of course the novel experience of letting an old woman "predict" your future of love and money. But she doesn't use the usual Tarot cards or the usual methods. She simply stares hard into your eyes as if she's stripping away the skin and muscle and burning a hole into your very soul. After a few minutes of a stark naked feeling she reaches into her deck and pulls out a unique looking card. As she places it in your hand you feel the strangest sensation of familiarity to the card and the picture on it's face.

Brushing the feeling off you put the card away and continue on your way enjoying the festivities. As the night continues on the feeling of familiarity grows stronger and you feel like the warm night air is smothering you and sapping your energy, just as you seem to reach the limit of your tolerance for the feeling, a huge explosion rumbles the fair grounds and a living hell begins swallowing up the rides and vendors. Chaos and panic ensues and you run for your life all else becomes a blur as you take refuge in the old fortune teller's trailer that seemed unphased by the voracious carnage. As you enter it you notice it's far bigger than it looked and you aren't the only one here. Despite all your differences you feel like these people are family. Now if things couldn't get any more confusing the old woman appears before you just as weathered and crooked as you remember, but in a flash she changes into a tall queenly woman with an otherworldly beauty. Before you can voice your disbelief she speaks and you freeze, rooted to the floor of the Trailer.
"I am Destiny and you have been chosen to save your world from the Warlord. The cards you have are your key to great power, master them and keep them close always. The Warlord will have agents with similar powers after you. Kill them and take their card, master these new cards and become even stronger. Now hold on tight we're going for a little ride." She snaps her fingers and the trailer vanishes from the destroyed Fair Grounds beginning your journey towards saving the world.

Setting: As the plot states you start in a traveling carnival that has come to town somewhere in the US. You'll run around doing Carnival things before visiting the Fortune Teller either before, during, or after your first post. Once everyone has their starter card I'll start the living hell deal and move us right into the story then we'll go into a designated training area to learn your cards and master the powers they hold. Once everyone has a warm and fuzzy on their powers we'll launch into fighting the darkness.

Extras: Everyone will be playing the good guys and the Dark Agents will be NPCs or also players if it's desired. Despite the gender of the character on your card you can be either male or female. But we all start out as normal humans. As the RP progresses you will fight Dark Agents and be able to take their cards utilizing the power within them. Each new card will have it's own set of Passive and Active Abilities but you can only use the active powers of one card at a time, the passive abilities will be going at all times though.

Most of the fighting will be between the players and non-card carrying monsters. The Card Carrying Dark Agents will be like boss battles.

Cards: You will be given a strange card by a strange woman in a strange trailer. The cards hold a power none of us has ever known. These Cards are Magic and give you a very handy set of powers, you must master the cards and capture more from the Dark Agents. There will be 30 choices so lots of options. I am open to hearing new card ideas for this and when the proper time comes we can work them out and make them real.

The powers can be turned off by touching the back center of your card or if you get damaged enough it'll happen automatically. When you transform you don't have to use the image on the card for your transformed looks, but it must look similar to the card. If you want to use the same pic just put same as card in the transformed looks part of the sheet. The Extra Cards and Looks is where you'll put all additional cards you get and what your transformed look is for that card. I will also put them on the master lists in this post.

Example 1: If you choose the Vampire Card your transformed appearance must look like a real Vampire and not some Twilight drop out.

Example 2: If you choose the Beastlord Card, no Nekos or Kitsune looking things Anthros only.

    Rules:

    1. All RPA and Mature Section rules apply.
    2. I put this in mature for the reason of creative freedom, anything goes for the most part as long as rule number one isn't broken.
    3. I am GM so listen to what I say.
    4. Any issues between players deal with in PMs.
    5. If they can't be dealt with in PMs send me both sides of the story and I'll help.
    6. If I help and it continues ask a mod or get out.
    7. Be active and post at least a paragraph a post.
    8. Ignorance of the rules won't save you if you break them.
    9. Be smart, have fun, and no modding or powerplaying.
    10. It is first come first serve with cards, throw a reservation down but don't expect it to be held indefinitely. Get your sheet in by the end of the week you asked or you'll lose it.
    11. Be sensible with the sizes of your chars. 50-100 feet long/tall is it for the huge animals like Leviathan and Roc and the more humanoid ones shouldn't reach over 30 feet unless someone makes a Giant Card or the like.
    12. You don't need to use the same image on the card as your transformed look, but it must look in-line with the card.
    13. Give me a good 2 or 3 paragraph Bio.
    14. Any new card ideas are welcome but they need to be run by me first.
    15. You can't change the powers of the cards, without dealing with me first.
    16. No activating your card until after Destiny takes you to train.
    17. Inactivity will be punished with the death and absorption of your card into either an active player's other card slot, a Dark Agent's other card slot or become a Dark Agent itself.
    18. I am the judge of inactivity, when the RP is going well it's a week unless you send me word of your inactivity then I'll pull you along, but after two weeks your character will be on the chopping block unless you have a good reason for not being around. And after three weeks they die no matter what.
    19. You can ask to be a Dark Agent if you want, but a sheet will still need to be made like Destiny's Group we'll just need to work you into the flow of things.
    20. In the Other section of the sheet put a well-written 2 paragraph in-character scene for your char.

I reserve the right to add, change, or delete anything as I see fit.

All questions, comments, and concerns will be welcome.

I'm thinking of taking the Lovers card. Seems pretty interesting.
Be wary of paramilitaries. When the men with guns who have always claimed to be against the system start wearing uniforms and marching around with torches and pictures of a Leader, the end is nigh. When the pro-leader paramilitary and the official police and military intermingle, the end has come.

They're all pretty interesting, I've read about 8 of them and skimmed another 4 and can't decide. I think I still want a random card....

    Name: Jack Williams
    Age: 25
    Gender: Male

    Card: Joker
    Spoiler: Human Looks

    Spoiler: Transformed Looks

    Equipment:
    Dice- All kinds of dice.
Coins- He's able to flick them with throwing star precision.
Card Deck- Just plain old playing cards, probably.
    Card Weapons:
Coins- They're actually throwing stars now, but they look like coins.
Card Deck- The method by which he copy-cats other Card Powers. Copies new ones hey see's, uses them later. Like a library.
Sharp Cards- Playing cards with razor sharp edges. There's a super-hero named Gambit with something like it.

    Card Armor:
Card Blizzard- Yep. A bunch of playing cards that obscure vision by flying around in people's face.

    Personality:
Jack, in this case, has a split personality. When he just plain ole Jack, he is nervous and shy around people. He prefers books and video games to living beings. On the other hand, if you offer to play a game of chance with him, he cannot refuse. (This has caused trouble). On the other hand, when he is transformed he prefers to go by Jester. Therein he is a definite extrovert, always going out of his way to bug or prank others in a friendly kind of way. In neither personality is he outright malicious, but he does have a general lack of social graces which can cause him to unintentionally wrong people.

    Bio:
Jack, insofar as most people are concerned, has led an average but generally depressing life up until receiving his Card. Born to a hard working father and an uncaring mother, he was generally left to his own devices after the age of three. With few to no real role models, he grew up never being taught the importance of discipline or how to maintain himself. This resulted in a lackadaisical attitude towards both other people and life in general. He barely scraped through standard education, doing the absolute bare minimum not to flunk out only because it would be a drag if he did.

As a free adult, he maintained few permanent ties and no real friends. He dated a couple of girls, but eventually wandered off due to boredom. He's never been in jail or committed any serious crimes, but he has had to run from the cops on a few occasions. During this time, he acquired a crippling gambling addiction, which has left him permanently in debt with both reputable and illegal sources. The only time in his life he ever felt that he really had or needed a purpose was when he met someone like himself, a girl named Amity. They never were anything more than passing acquaintances, someone to help drag you out of the gutter when you were passed on. But he saw what happened to her when she started shooting up on drugs, how it consumed her from the inside out. When she died, he swore off all alcohol and narcotics forever. Its been the only promise he ever kept. He came to the circus looking for a minor distraction which he waited for something else interesting to happen, little did he know he'd get more than he asked for.

    Extra Cards and Looks:
    None yet acquired.

    Other:
The dice rattled in the cup. When they came to a stand still he lifted up the edge just the barest fraction towards himself, keeping his face totally blank as he eyed the result. Shit. There was a five, a two, and a one. A quick glance up to the other player confirmed his suspicions. He'd probably got a triple combo with an expression like that. The idiot had a horrible poker face, but luck like the devil's. Jack had begun to wonder if he was cheating somehow. He'd already lost two dice, to his opponents none.

It was his turn to wager first. He set three bills down on the table. That left him nearly broke, not just for the game but for all of his savings. The idiot across from him grinned and passed ten bills of his own. His pockets were positively bulging. "Two two's," Jack said carefully. It was a low bet, an easy one. His opponent huffed. "Three fours," he said with a sneer. The spectators around them muttered. All of them expected him to bow out. He could only bow out... or he could gamble.

"Three fives." Time paused, everyone watching stopped breathing. Everyone looked at the other player. His mouth was open, working up and down silently. Eventually he whispered, "Four fours." Jack reached out slowly, carefully, and tapped the table. Both cups were pulled off. The other man had three fours. Jack had one five. But the other man had two other dice left. His additional two fives glared up angrily at those watching.

Jack slowly pocketed all six bills on the table and began to back away. He expression on the man's face. He knew what he was going to saw. "You... lying... cheating... Son-Of-A-BITCH!" The man roared, surging upwards and knocking the makeshift table over, sending the dice flying. Before he'd gone two steps, Jack was already gone down a side alley, the sound of running feet in the dark all that was left of his presence.

It was a good thing that the idiot hadn't notice Jack switch his own weighted dice with his earlier. The 'three five' trick got em every time, as attested two by the tidy sum of money in his pocket. It wasn't much, but it was enough to afford some food and a room for the night. Of course, he could see the faint glow of the carnival's lights in the distance. Maybe he ought to take a look, if for nothing else than to pass the time.

Actually, I'd like to reserve the Puppet Master. I got inspired by this image.

Very well get your sheet in by the end of the week same for you Hig. I'll dig up my old sheet and post it.

    Name: Desmond Hare
    Age(18+): 23
    Gender(M/F): Male

    Card: Reaper Card
    Human Looks(pic and description):
    Spoiler: Desmond

    Transformed Looks(pic and description):
    Spoiler: The Reaper

Equipment: Des carries an antique wrist watch his grandfather gave him and a skull pendent his uncle gave him after his last visit to the hospital.

Card Weapons: Des's only weapon in Reaper form is a massive four headed mace called Sever that seems to moan with the voices of the dead.

Card Armor: Death's Mail, the armor in the pic made by Death itself. It both anchors his ethereal form and provides him with protection against many attacks.

Personality: Quiet and observant, there are people he's known for years that still don't recognize his voice out of a crowd. He likes stepping back from the swirling masses of life and just watch it in all it's chaos a habit he picked up while he lived in hospitals. He wouldn't call himself shy if he wants to he can talk your ear off about anything and is a solid friend in a pinch he just likes keeping to himself.

Bio: Desmond spent much of his early life in the hospital. He was a sickly child from birth many of the Doctors, Nurses, and even his parents were sure he wouldn't survive to his first birthday, the poor baby had a toe tag before they even wiggled and everyone was sure of it. Well almost everyone his Uncle Trevor and Grandpa James were by the kid's side more than his folks were. Trevor had just come back from a bad tour in Iraq, he'd seen his friends blown up and lived through being a POW for months. And his grandpa was a vet from Viet Nam living through every hell that war could throw at him. Whenever they were asked why they would never give up on Desmond, they simply said death had claimed enough and they'd be damned if they would lose little Desmond.

In a few months Desmond was stable but still somewhat sickly. It wasn't until his fifth birthday that he was cleared and released. In celebration Trevor and James took the young boy to his first carnival. The joy of such a place made them forget the hell of war for a little bit so they went to them at any chance they could. Beofre the young boy left the legend was already going around the hospital that the Grim Reaper saw Trevor and James's dedication to the little infant and stayed it's cold hand, but as is the norm in life nothing is given for free. Just as young Desmond was to be released his parents were killed in a car wreck on their way to the hospital. The kid was released to his Grandfather's care with Uncle Trevor helping at every turn, and so began the young man's many duels with death and trips to the Carnival. He's always had a knack for predicting bad times and was able to stop them once in awhile, but he didn't win them all, his Grandfather was killed in an armed robbery a few days before he was 18 leaving Uncle Trever his legal guardian. Now Desmond is a 23 year old collage student going into law enforcement and on the anniversary of his Jame's death he's out enjoying the carnival as he promised Trevor back at home who was the only person Des knew who loved carnivals more than Grandpa James.

    Extra Cards and Looks: N/A

Other: Another day in class and another session of listening to his teacher go over procedure and policy. It was all something the young man knew from previous lessons, but reviewing never hurt anyone. And it did allow Des to drift off into a daydream, he was going to the Carnival tonight after school. Uncle Trevor and Grandpa James had always been a die-hard lover of such festivals, when Grandpa James was still alive he would sponsor long summer treks across the country for the family and they would hit up as many celebrations as they could. The number of family members going dwindled over the years until only Grandpa James, Uncle Trevor, and Demond were the only ones going.
This was fine by them, it was cheaper and they loved Carnivals more than the others anyway. They were the greatest times of Desmond's childhood, just him and the two men who meant the most to him in life just out enjoying the campy goodness of any back country carnival they could find.

One in particular sticks in the young student's mind. It was in New York and it started out a normal outing. The food, the games, the innocent games of chance, and Desmond's first eye-witness account of seeing death. Desmond was eight at this time, he was with his Uncle and Grandpa walking around a New York State Fair. They were looking for the rest of the family so they could get a commemorative picture taken like they always did. The three males were walking past the livery barn when they heard a woman's scream. Turning their heads they saw a man stab a knife in the the stomach of a woman before ripping her purse away. Uncle Trevor was moving before the murderer even got hit knife out of her dying body, moving fast for a big guy Trevor plowed into the criminal knocking the knife away and driving his meaty fist into the guy's face, and there would've been two deaths that day had Grandpa James not pulled the big soldier off. Standing on his own as people swarmed around the scene Desmond found himself staring at the woman as the life left her eyes. It would be something he would never forget, and even with the mild therapy the image never left him.

Young Des was remembering the distant glazed over look in his Uncle's eyes after it when a shout brought him back to his classroom. The teacher had apparently asked him a question that he had missed, the whole class was staring. They knew Des to be a strange young man and treated him like a strange animal in a zoo sometimes. Brushing it off he shook his head.
"I'm sorry, what was the question?"
