PERSONA: THE DARK AGE
It began with a disorder known as Apathy Syndrome, then a series of Grisly murders, followed by other events that no man could ever explain. Then...it happened. In 2015, a hole in the sky was torn open by an unseen force, and unleashed upon the world a flood of unnameable horrors. The world's mightiest countries and armies could do nothing, their weapons were useless against these shadow beasts.
It was then, when all hope was lost, that a man, emanating golden radiance, with a face that was youthful, and yet ages old appeared at the head of an army, an army of children, ranging from teenagers to middle-schoolers. The shadow beasts descended upon them, but were driven back by the strange power the Golden man and his army wielded. A power that was created from the very force of consciousness itself...Persona.
Using their Personas, the Shadow beasts were held at bay while mankind recovered. Much of the planet was lost, and few remained that remembered a time before the war. However, the Golden man was no fool, and he knew many things. Under his guidance, many cities were rebuilt, and given greater technology than they had before the war, and it was thought a new age would begin, with the Golden Man as their leader.
They were partly right, a new age was to begin...an age of Darkness. For, unbeknownst to even their saviour, a group of humans succumbed to the whispers of darkness and were changed. A new breed of humans had been created, the Shade-touched. A rebellion began, as the Shade-touched raged as their new powers boiled through them, a great battle was fought where once Rome stood, and the forces of humanity prevailed...but at high cost. The Golden man was mortally wounded, and, sensing this, the Shadow beasts surged forth once again, and began to consumed the world.
As his last act of defiance, The Golden Man ordered he be brought to the deepest basement of the tower he used as a palace. There, it was found a device, unlike any seen before. The Golden man, under his orders, was hooked to this device. Just as the darkness reached the borders of this city, a pules of light emanated from the apex of the tower, driving it back and forming a shield around the city. The darkness could not pierce this barrier, and being near it, fled. Humanity was saved once again, but their saviour was now forever locked in this machine, not alive, yet unable to die. He writhes invisibly with power, keeping up the barrier that protects the last city.
Now, Hundreds of years later, The age of Darkness is in full swing. it is the dawn of the 3rd millennium, for centuries, the Golden Man, now deified as the God of mankind, has sat, immobile on his throne, keeping up the defenses that protect his people. Guarding these people are the ASDF, the Anti-Shadow Defense Force. They are armed and equipped with the best weapons available, but even with all their power and all their training, all they can do is truly keep the darkness at bay. To live in these times is to be in an overpopulated and crowded hive, where your darkest dreams can become reality. Forget the power of Science and Technology, for so much has been lost, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of this time, there is only death, and unending battle, and the laughter of thirsting horrors.
Spoiler: The Last City
The Last City is all that remains of the once great civilization of Humanity. It is a massive sprawling urban hive, housing, currently, roughly two billion people in an area the size of New York. In the center is the Ivory tower, where the ASDF, as well as the Council of Elders is housed. The closer you are to the tower, the more affluent and beautiful the city is, a reflection of the old world ideals. However, the farther away you are, the poorer and more cramped the city gets, to the point where near the wall, there are massive skyscrapers full of thousands of tight, low-cost tenements. Factories and hydropoic farms are spread throughout the city, and can barely keep up with the needs of the citizenry, which is why everything, meaning everything, is recycled.
That is not to say that there are no humans living outside the city, the world is dotted with small settlements, however the humans living in these are often xenophobic, savage, in-bred, mutants, or rogue shade-born. They are considered extremely dangeous, and should be avoided.
Spoiler: The ASDF
One unbreakable shield against the coming darkness. One last blade, forged in defiance of fate. Let them be my legacy to the world I conquered, and my final gift to the species I failed.
- The Golden Man
The ASDF, or, Anti-Shadow Defense Force, is comprised of those who have awakened to the inner power of Persona. Ever since The Golden Man marched against the darkness, they have been around, comprised mostly of adolescents, as that is when awakening most likely occurs.
To this day, many of the awakened who have active combat duty are between 12-18 years of age, and most do not live beyond that because of the immense danger that is faced. Tests have proved that awakening has nothing to do with genetics, and cannot be passed down. Fighting alongside the awakened humans are two other groups, the Aegis, and the Sanctioned Shade-born.
During the latter stages of the reformation caused by the Golden Man, he had successfully been able to create a race of androids and gynoids that were able to tap into Persona, although their Personas were much weaker than those of humans. Making up for that, the Aegis' bodies are much stronger and resilient, able to take a much harder beating, and use weapons too massive for Humans, mostly a selection of artillery to support their human teammates.
Shade-born resemble humans, being originally humans, with some key differences. Their skin is a corpse-grey, with either inky black, or stark white hair. The scleras of their eyes are black, and their irises are jade green, and they have white pupils. While it was Shade-born that started the rebellion, many did not wish to rebel, and instead sided with the forces of The Golden Man. However, their power, which utilized both Persona and the Darkness, was much more powerful than a human's, it was also much more unpredictable, and so a process of hypno-conditioning and cranial implantation was inplemented to be able to control them known as 'sanctioning'. This weakens a Shade-born's powers, but gives them much more control over it, and a great resistance to the 'Black Rage' that causes a Shade-born to go out of control and eventually turn into a Shadow. It does not, however, reduce their inherent sever emotional instability, and among the Human and Aegis operatives, there is a standing order to execute any Shade-born that shows signs of the onset of The Black Rage.
This is the standard ASDF combat uniform, it is a sealed environment suit, charged with anti-shadow wards to aid in defense against shadows, and reinforced with titanium-laminated kevlar plates with a carbon fiber weave to protect against everything else. Aegis operatives do not wear this, as their bodies are already armored and warded.
Spoiler: What are Personas? What are Shadows?
The easiest way to describe what Personas and Shadows are, is to say that they are 'other me's' located in out unconscious. a Persona is the me we wish we were, or all the things about us we like. A Shadow, on the other hand, is all that we hate about our selves, all of our negative qualities, and things about us we wish we never had, or would go away. Due to the overpopulation of the earth, and the experiments of several scientists with too few ethics, these beings were able to be given form, and came into existence on another plane. In response, Personas began to awaken in the mnids of individuals, to try and bring balance to the universe, although as of yet, a massive imbalance is what is occurring.

Spoiler: Weapon types
One-handed sword - One of the most common choices among the ASDF, while many different varieties exist, the most common pattern is a 4ft long straight double-sided blade of black, non-reflective carboceramic with a monomolecular blade and a basket hilt. Attacks with Slash.
Two-handed Sword - A heavier and clumsier cousin of the One-handed sword, and made of the same material. While lacking the finesse of their smaller counterparts, with their increased weight, they can overpower and cleave through shadows, and if the wielder is skilled enough, can hit multiple enemies in a wide, reaping swing. Attacks with Slash.
Spear/Polearm - A blade or pointed tip on the end of a long haft. While difficult to used in cramped locations, it can hep to keep an enemy at bay, and prevent them from reaching you. Attacks with Pierce.
Bow - While many would think it odd that, in this day and age, such an archaic weapon wouldn't be used, it does have several advantages over the firearms used to hunt shadows. It is cheam and easy to produce, silent, and unlike bullets, the arrows from a bow can be inscribed with anti-shadow wards, which can make them even more effective than bullets. Attacks with Pierce.
Fist/glove - A weapon designed for fighting up close, this type of weapon is very difficult to use and be unscathed, as it forces you to get in very close with your enemy, but of all the weapon types, this is the lightest, and most effective in cramped locations. Attaks with Bash.
Hammer - A large and heavy weapon with a long handle. These are the heaviest melee weapons, and are very difficult to use because of the weight, but can be some of the most devastating, and can even open doors.
Firearms - A type of weapon that utilizes gunpowder to project a solid slug at an enemy. Unlike the sleek and light weapons of our time, the firearms here are larger, bulkier, and much slower firing, as to effectively injure a shadow, a larger projectile is required. Thus, making an effective firearm for a human or Shadeborn to be able to wield is very difficult. Attacks with Pierce.
Spoiler: Aegis Weapons
These weapons are only available to the Aegis, and these are the only weapons they can wield.
Autocannon - autocannons are similar in concept to twentieth century tank guns. They are rapid-firing weapons that utilize large-caliber (usually between 20-40mm) ammunition that can shred soft-to-medium targets. Attacks with pierce.
Assault cannon - Although it lacks the range of the autocannon and many other heavy weapons, the assault cannon is a fearsome weapon when used in the close range role it was designed for. The weapon is prone to overheating and jams due to its high rate of fire - the number of rounds fired per second are counted in the hundreds. The barrels and other firing components are made of a heat-dispersing ceramic/metallic alloy, helping the weapon to withstand the intense heat generated by its high rate of fire. Despite this, the barrels still reach temperatures of over 300°. Due to the high rate of wear on the barrels, the barrels are replaced after every mission. Motor and barrel failure are common problems with the assault cannon, making the weapon prone to jamming during sustained bursts. The weight and complexity of the mechanism, and the heavy recoil generated means that the assault cannon requires a stable firing platform. The weapon is not considered man portable, however the powerful servos, recoil compensators and stabilizers built into the Aegis allow them to be carried into battle. Attacks with pierce.
Bolt Thrower - put simply, this is a massive crossbow which fires a bolt as long as an average human's leg, and wide as their forearm. It has a string of tightly corded titanium, with steel arms, and fires bolts of solid tungsten with enough force to penetrate an M1 Abrams, at supersonic speeds. As such, the draw force is so powerful, that a normal human cannot wield it, and is thus used by Aegis. Attacks with pierce.
Spoiler: Personas
Spoiler: Arcana
The Arcana are the different classes of Tarot Cards. They are a major thematic element of the Persona series. The Arcana are divided into the Major Arcana (21 unique cards). They also represent the different 'families' of persona, and the Arcana of a persona also shows what abilities it has.
Depending on the persona or your weapon, you may use, be weak to, be strog against, be immune to, or be healed by certain elements, of which there are two types
Physical, whic cannot be 'absorb', or, be healed by, only resistant or immune to:
Slash
Bash
Pierce
And magical ones:
Fire
Ice
Wind
Lightning
Dark
Light
Almighty (almighty may not be absorbed, resisted, or be nullified (be immune to) )
Depending on your race, your persona may gain resistances, immunities or absorbs by accepting weaknesses. The exchange rate is:
For humans: 1 weakness for a resistance, 2 weaknesses for an immune, 3 for an absorb
For Shade-touched: 1 free resistance, but every other one costs 1. 1 immune for 1 weakness, then every immune costs another 2. 2 weaknesses for an absorb.
For Aegis: Always weak to lightning, that cannot change. 2 weaknesses for a resistance, 3 weaknesses for an immune, and 4 weaknesses for an absorb.
Spoiler: Skills and abilities
Having a persona grants you access to the special abilities granted by it. This allows you to be more flexible than just what you physically can do. Depending on your race (Human, Aegis, or Shade-touched) you may start out with less or more skills, but you can always gain more. The skills consume either your physical or 'life' energy for physical skills, and your magical or 'mental' energy for magic ones. Using too many will either result in physical or mental exhaustion, and you could also find yourself completely helpless from overuse.
The starting is:
for Humans: 1 Physical and 1 Magical
for Shade-touched: 2 Physical and 2 Magical
for Aegis: 1 physical or 1 magical
Regardless of what you pick, you can only pick the level 1 of the type:
Spoiler: Physical

1. Bash
2. Sonic Punch
3. Hysterical Slap
4. Skull Cracker
5. Gigantic Fist
6. God's Hand

Personality: Jackie is a closet lesbian, scared to come out. Because of this she tries to hide it by forcing herself to get close to boys/men. However, when it gets down to it she can't bring herself to do anything more than hold hands or hug them. Her reputation has taken a hit from this, some males calling her a frigid person. On the contrary, Jackie is a very kind person that is usually willing to help with anything. Her smile may not be something that lights up a room, but it's something to keep hearts warm. In a fight she keeps at a distance with her bow and takes up a supporting role in keeping her allies covered rather than going all in on offence.
