As far back as anyone can remember about the island, the Land of Tides, it was little more than a home for several tribes of makeshift shinobi, warring constantly with each other with jutsu, and later on with weapons like swords, for dominance of the island. No, there was nothing that spectacular with the island that drew the eyes of invaders. In fact that the island was quite far away from the other lands, most of which also warring with themselves using shinobi and not focusing on exploration. The land stayed obscure, becoming mere legend as the other nations soon forgot of its existence.
About four centuries ago, a single leader came to take charge and rule over the entirety of the ninja island. A miniscule man, one standing at only 3'11 feet, managed to defeat all enemies who opposed him. Han Tsai, a powerful shinobi whose immense chakra betrayed his docile looks, utilized powerful techniques and Kekkei Genkai to achieve his rule. When he finally took over the island, he established a village that would be in the center of the island underneath an enormous tree. This would later grow to be the main village of the island as well as the hidden village.
In the village, shinobi trained and fought with each other, all seeking to better themselves and fight if need be. Han Tsai took a role as chieftain of the village, calling himself the Okanki, merging the words "great" and "wood" in honor of the revered tree that the village peacefully lived underneath.
A century later, another revolutionary leader came into power. Lady Oba, a beautiful noblewoman in the village, seized power using her looks as well as her strength in Genjutsu. Once in power, she cast away the title of Okanki, finding the old and traditional ideas such as worshipping a tree to be beneath her and her people. Afterwards, she worked to increase the literacy and intelligence of her somewhat slower people. Though strong in battle, her people needed strengths in places out of combat now. Her efforts were successful as the people began to become cultured, modernized, and started to develop as not just a village but as a society.
A little more than a hundred years ago, the Fourth Great Shinobi War erupted in the land of the five great nations, doing battle against the White Zetsu army as well as reanimated foes such as Madara Uchiha. Ultimately, it culminated in a final battle that ravaged the Hidden Leaf Village. However, the foe was defeated and most of the Allied Forces who had participated in the final battle had escaped with their lives. What happened next was a period of rebuilding that lasted twenty-five years, picking up the pieces from the great war and working together to create a better future. Fifty years after the war ended, the shinobi of the five great nations began to expand due to an extended time of peace and prosperity. One of the final lands they discovered was the Land of Tides, the island protected by a Genjutsu cast that made it look like it was unreachable due to high tides. Due to this, the land was named the Land of Tides, its hidden village called the Hidden Wave Village.
Over the next fifty years, the village has grown exponentially. With the help of foreign countries, shinobi on the island are officially ninja. Much of the regular shinobi customs have successfully made their way onto the island from Ninja Academies to train students into Genin to having a Jonin teach three Genin to even the Chunin and Jonin exams. One notable difference is that the people of the Hidden Wave Village have not accepted a Kage to rule over them, rather, using their own system of ruling over themselves. The foreign nations, mainly the Hidden Mist and Hidden Sand, do not support this little nation being completely autonomous. Tensions have been rising between the main ninja nations and the small island. What does not help is that the island has become somewhat of a haven for criminals and deserters, people coming in do to the lousy security as well as low amount of hunter-nin among the island dwellers.
However, one thing that the current leader, Lord Ani, is looking forward to is the yearly tournament that has been held annually for almost three centuries. Genin, Chunin, and Jonin of all ages are encouraged to join in on the fighting to show off their power and capabilities not only as shinobi but as defenders of the Land of Tides.
