Two hundred years. It had been almost two hundred years since the island continent of Taiyogen. Taiyogen had been rocked by a series of devastating wars and plagues that nearly brought the land to its knees. With provinces at each others throats the only ones who suffered were their own people. Amidst the ruins of the former governments rose the Mitsugawa Shogunate. Founded by Takeki Mitsugawa, the Shogunate spread its reach across the continent enforcing peace and restoring life to the land. While long ago Takeki died his descendants still to this day fulfill their roles as ruler of Taiyogen, with Yoshitaro Mitsugawa ruling as the current Shogun. Though many question the current state of affairs. Every generation has seen the Mitsugawa Clan's power wane. Once their armies marched in the hundreds of thousands through the countryside. Now, however, it is the local lords who have seen to wield the greatest power. Border skirmishes have broken out as territory disputes grow in number ever year, during which the Mitsugawa Shogunate has been powerless to intervene. Peace has thrived for so long yet any who have studied history know what future is in store for Taiyogen. A war is coming, a war that will rock the very foundation of Taiyogen and see it transformed in ways none within had imagined.

In the midst of the shifting winds sits the fields of Shimakawa. Many Daimyo and Clans claim long heritage lines of warriors, of poets, of travelers and heroes. The Shimakawa on the other hand are recognized not for their deeds in battle but vast rice fields. Some rule through gold, others through spear and horse, the Shimakawa's power comes from their agriculture. No matter who someone is, how great a figure they are, all must eat. Soldiers require provisions, and the people of Taiyogen are not always able to survive solely off their own land. Even the capital, Mitsugawa Palace, has been known to make requests of the Shimakawa during famines. It is on crops they live, and the Shimakawa understand this power so greatly that even their clan mon depicts grains of rice. Recently a tragedy had befallen the Shimakawa as their lord, their Daimyo, had passed on. During a ride to Gifosu land his horse tripped upon a stone and fell atop him killing him instantly. Hayato Shimakawa inherited the clan from his father without much incident from his siblings.

Hayato himself however despite his own wishes would not become the grand figure he wished to be. For Hayato was a part of the old world. A samurai through and through living by the word of the Shogun without proper ambition. No it would be the new generation of Shimakawa that would truly grow to alter the land. they themselves would have to come to terms with a difficult reality. It had been tw hundred years since the last great war, but certainties were found within it. It was possible to live as a Seijin during times of peace but people turned to Oni during with strife. Already some have given into their own wicked desires. To the East the Imadaira have been amassing a grand army, forcing any weaker than they into vassalage. By using the children of their vassals as hostages the Imadaira have ensured loyalty from their samurai and lords. Whispers abound that some day they may march on the capital, and will have to go through the Shimakawa to do so.

Beneath the many looming shadows children are growing. This stry will follow the lives of the young of the Shimakawa as they blossom into leaders, samurai, diplomats, warriors, ministers, Seijin, Oni, or even greater roles. the RP will start two hundred years after the founding f the Mistugawa Shogunate. It is then in which we will see the early lives of the blossoms of war and the events that will shape them into the figures they will some day become. When mortals will become mythical beings in the annals of history, their lives greater in spirit than any could hope. One's personal achievements are important, yet none should forget most of all the survival of their clan, their family, their people.

This RP will has been heavily inspired by the events of the Azuchi-Momoyama period of Japan. While strongly influenced by history this RP takes place within a fictional world with fictional characters. Events in the RP may be similar to those seen in history but will not exactly replicate said events nor will things necessarily play out like they did in history. My maps have been made using the Inkarnate map maker tool which is currently in beta. This is a low fantasy RP. You may have noticed this is actually very little information about the world, that is intentional. Rather than have all of the information up front like being children and teenagers growing up in this world you will be learning about it as you experience it.

Character Name: Hayato Shimakawa
Appearance: Hayato is a broad shouldered man with a thick belly and sharp face. Normally he keeps his hair long and thick and ties it up behind his head. The current Daimyo of the Shimakawa is taught and strong with large hands and feet that often intimidate those in his presence. On the left side of his jaw he is missing two teeth which were knocked out during a skirmish against the Katokeda. Hayato keeps his facial hair short in a beard and mustache combo though the left side of his face grows little facial hair due to a large spear wound on the lower half of his face. Many would regard the man as a large brute with a wicked grin and intense eyes that nearly bulge from his head when he is moved to anger.
Family: Hayato is the head of the Shimakawa family, having inherited it from his brother. He has sixteen brothers and twenty sisters, not all are from the same mother as him. Hayato is the first born of his siblings and thus is the oldest. Hayato has three wives.

Ambitions: Hayato wishes to to see the Katokeda clan brought to ruin. As well he wishes to bring glory to the Shimakawa in battle and wage war wherever he can for the good of the clan.
History: Hayato was the first brn of his father Katashi Shimakawa. During his childhood he practiced diligently at combat, training whenever he could. While his other siblings focused on studying government or joined temples to become closer to the gods Hayato wanted nothing more than to see battle. It was at age 14 that Hayato fought in his first battle leading troops. During this battle he was struck in the face with a spear and heavily scarred, his forces lost causing him to form a rivalry with the young heir of the Katokeda clan. During another border skirmish he clashed with the Takoda while losing the battle he managed to slay one of their heirs in combat dealing a blow to the pride of the clan which they still remember to this day. At age 19 he married a samurai from the Gifosu clan. During a sparring match in his early 20's Hayato accidentally killed a samurai from the Oza clan and was forced to pay a fee and tribute by the Shogun. In the year 200 Hayato inherited the Shimakawa clan from his father Katashi when his father died during an accident with a horse.

Character Name: Katashi Shimakawa
Appearance: Katashi in most artwork has been depicted as a broad man with a handsome face and outstanding cheek bones. With age he withered, illness constantly befell him towards the end of his life taking the color from his skin making him constantly pale. Despite this his wiry figured still held the remnants of a warrior. No longer could he grow hair atop his head and in turn he grew to shave his head save for his chin which sprouted a long thin white beard.
Family: Katashi was the head of the Shimakawa Clan, his reign was one of the longest they had known. Rather than take many spouses Katashi took one wife and one husband. His first born son was the ever fierce Hayato.

Ambitions: Katashi was known for striving for peace in the land of Shimakawa. In life he was fiercely loyal to the Shogun and despite his love of peace waged war on behalf of the Shogun many times in his life.
History: Katashi became Daimyo at the young age of ten. His father had been assassinated though by whom no one truly knew. After his father's death a tension grew with the Katokeda Clan that eventually petered out. Much of Katashi's life he spent working upon surveys of the land. During his reign there was seen a grand expansion of the rice fields of Shimakawa. Eventually this became necessary for the survival of the nearby clans as a famine rapidly hit. During that trying time Katashi used their extra stores of food to arrange marriages for his children and form alliances. Upon the death of his old rival Shinhe Katokeda it was said that Katashi despite his age rode to their castle. When they expected a Shimakawa invasion they were instead met with Katashi who bore gifts for his widows and children, as Katashi had deeply despected Shinhe. During the last days of his life Katashi had been travelling to Gifosu in the hopes of discussing a trade agreement of food for silver. It was on this trip that he fell from his horse and broke his neck, ending his life.

Character Name: Hanachau Shimakawa(Formerly Shishava)
Appearance: Hanachu stands taller than the average person to the point that some consider her to be one of the tallest people in Shimakawa. A notable aspect of her appearance is a pair of moles to the right of her mouth. What most recognize her by is her thick sharp eyebrows and emerald eyes. Hanachau is quite feared for her stature since not only is she tall but quite strong as well. Her large hands give her quite a powerful grip in combat.
Family: Hanachau was a samurai serving the Gifosu before she was married to Hayato. While not an heir to the Gifosu her family had great power within the clan thus making her eligible to marry above her station.

Ambitions: Hanachau is quite well known for her desire to learn any and all sword techniques she can. First and foremost her loyalty is to her clan and what she seeks most is union between the Shimakaw and Gifosu.
History: Hanachau grew up undergoing rigorous training so that one day she could live as a samurai and defend her clan's honor. It was at age thirteen that Hanachau claimed her first life in battle, at age fourteen was her first victory in a duel. In Gifosu she was considered a prodegy despite her father's wishes for her to settle and focus on learning more mercantile trades. During a battle as an adult she fought alongside Hayato and the two fell in love. It was then revealed to them that their fathers had arranged their marriage to help keep peace between their two clans. As chance had it everyone was rather pleased with the circumstances. Her and Katashi for a long time did not get along. However both ended up bonding over their love of hunting and her and Katashi grew even closer than the father and son.

Character Name: Akekyo Shimakawa
Appearance: Akekyo Shimakawa is a rather sweet and warm looking woman. She is thin with long slender fingers and loose silken hair. Across her right palm is a scar from a hunting accident in which Hayato accidentally cut her hand with a knife. This has cost her some dexterity in said hand. Normally she wears a great deal of makeup.
Family: Akekyo is the first sister of Hayato and first daughter of Kakashi. After the death of Kakashi she wished to rule the clan but there was not enough support for her despite the claim that Kakashi's will was for her to rule. She is married to a member of the Imadaira clan and has even children.

Ambitions: Kakekyo mostly keeps to herself.
History: Akekyo as a child was deeply religious though became less strict and rigid with age. Her prayers were mostly sent in public to the gods of the harvest. Underneath her others found themselves growing closer to the gods until a hunting accident. Afterwards she was said to be more closed off for up to two years before finally reemerging again. Her and Kakashi were quite close and it was said that he was grooming her to take over the clan. Akekyo's greatest accomplishment was her treaty with the Imadaira which she sealed with her own marriage.

Character Name: Ten-no Akira
Appearance: Akira is a onna-bugeisha, for her family, as well as the resident miko, or priestess, at the local temple. As such when she is at the temple she wears the traditional Shinto priestess outfit and has a traditional fan with very thin blades along the edge, but when she is training or fighting she wears standard samurai armour, a cloth hat and wields a bow and naginata. When you look at her you would see black hair, although there is what looks like purple dye streaks through it, and brown eyes. She is a bit on the short side for her age, as well as a bit bigger around the waist and belly, giving her a flat-chested look, not that she was that big to begin with.

Family: The Ten-no, or Celestial, family has ties back to the first Imperial family, or so the stories say. A very honourable family with a strong presence both in the samurai and monk classes of society. Their family alliances include the Satsuki and Tachitomo clans, as well as being part of the Shimakawa family. The Ten-no family takes their history and reputation seriously.

Ambitions: To help bring her family back from obscurity and back to what the stories say they were. To find the truth behind the rumours of oni stalking the battlefields and help to cleanse them.
History:

Character Name: Usami Nyoko
Appearance: A somber looking woman of fairly short height, with dark black hair, streaked with pale white by choice. Nyoko's face is very defined, more foxlike with sharp eyes and facial features that make her an overall attractive prospect. She wears plain clothing, preferring darker colors as to not draw much attention to herself, and tends to wear her hair long and not done up in any way.
Family: Not mentioned in public, Nyoko was adopted into the clan shortly after her birth, her father's name and her family name have been stricken from all public records, for so great was the shame and dishonor he wrought that he was literally considered to be a demon by nature.

Ambitions: To become a saint, that is to come as close as she can to such a lofty goal. And to please her "Family"

Character Name: Yeyinde Shimakawa(Pronounced - EE-in-Day, Means "The Brave One")
Appearance: Yeyinde, has dark skin and is very slender built child. As an Adult, he is much taller, standing at an even six foot six, and his hair is much longer. His hair is normally just left out and it's very long, but it actually stands up a little more towards the top. As an adult, Yeyin would wield only one sword which is a long Uchigitana. It's a long bladed sword with a square gray guard, and a red colored hilt and sheath. It also has a string with a small ball at the end of it on the bottom of the sword. He'd wear a white headband when he gets older, with the Shimakawa clan emblem on it. It would be a way of keeping his hair out of his face. The back of the headband would come down very far, almost as far as his feet.

Ambitions: Yeyin wants to learn more about where he came from and who he really is. He knows that he isn't truly from these lands, but what he wants to know is why he is here now. Other than that, he'd follow behind Hayato as he wants to be a good son and honor his family just as well.

Character Name: Nishimura Takuya

Appearance

Takuya, other than the features above, stands at a healthy height of 5'9. His body, though it is not prepared for war, is slim─but tender all the same. His facial features do not preside any sort of combat or thrilled action. In fact, his body is quite toned, even though it may not seem like it. He tends to hide his muscular features behind the clothing he wears, and it would also hide the faint scars upon his skin─something that he rarely speaks of. These scars, stretching in a few inches in length, litter up and down his back─assuming he had been whipped constantly.

Family

The Nishimura Family (西村 | means "western village", from nishi "west" and mura "village"), has been credited with having unfortified connections with the Shimakawa Clan. However the Nishimura Family has been seen as a vital asset on the political battlefield and the head of the family is constantly present at meetings concerning the affairs of opposing clans.

• He merely wants peace throughout the land, even if it means breaking that code of pacifism to enact the peace.

Character Name: Nimaru Fukushibo
Appearance: Fuku isn't extremely muscular. Or handsome. He's pretty ordinary looking, truly, and has unusually thin, green eyes due to near-sightedness. His third molar is missing, and his 'beard,' if you'd truly call the scraggly hairs upon his chin such, is limited to the cleft of his--yes, cleft--chin. Years of worry over the family has left him with early grey hairs.
He is, however, rather tall and surprisingly graceful--Two features that work well in conjunction with his duties as head of one of the countless retainer families of the Shimakawa clan. More often than not, he wears simple peasants garb, dyed a darker color and sporting a black trout upon it.
Family: The Nimaru family is rather old, but has fallen upon harder years upon joining the Shimakawa Clan. For the past fifty years, the primary bloodline has been slowly declining, with male heirs becoming fewer. As such, Fukushibo is the only direct male heir of the bloodline, though he has two uncles, Tamakuru and Kensuribu, and many aunts. In addition, he has three sisters, though they have been married off, named Nanisama, Yisu, and Shisadokama.

Fuyuki will grow to be an onna bugeisha for the sake of her family. When her parents die, she will live with a lover at a local shrine. A sea of black tendrils will roll to her upper thighs. Brown, radiant eyes will shine like dark coffee. She also shares her father's nose, which is high arched, but not grossly so. Fuyuki prefers to wear her hair down or in an intricate looking bun. She is often seen wearing a bright kimono with gold ribbons. The girl stands at a lithe 5 ft 4 in, but she appears shorter due to wearing flats. She has an hourglass body, albeit rather husky for her size. She wears bulky looking armor as well as a golden trinket atop of her head to signal her status as a warrior. She likes to carry a naginata, which her edlest brother gave up.
Family: The Murakami family
("upper village; derived from 邨 (mura) "village" and 上 (kami, kan or ue) "upper,") is a family bound to the Shirakawa clan. The Murakami family shares bloodlines from the Satsuki and Wakikabe clan. In this case, Fuyuki is the youngest daughter of the Murakami family. Her mother, Shiragiku Murakami (formerly Etō) married someone from the Shirakawa clan. The Murakami family lives next to an abundant mikan (orange) tree. Seimei Murakami (Fuyuki's father) is the cousin of Akekyo Shirakawa. She has an older sister and three older brothers.

To understand more about her grandmother; apparently, she didn't leave much of a mark... and she died pretty early.She also wants to establish peace between her family. She is also fond of her [deceased] cousin, Yagokoro Tsumiki, who was Shiragiku's younger sister.

Character Name: Kumiko Asahina (technically, it should be written the other way around. I know! Sorry, had to say it...)

Appearance: Adult Kumiko
Kumiko is of middling height, at five feet and four inches, and weighs only as much as newborn foal. Her height and weight are quickly reached as she grows up and would remain constant for the remainder of her years. She bears rare amber-colored eyes that strike out amidst fair, but average, facial features. Her waist-length naturally black hair is dyed white at all times and meshes well with the mostly white clothing adorned by the family. Women of her age and status wear plain attire, there are no adornments or accessories to be seen on Kumiko's person. Slender of figure and proportions, Kumiko will never have well defined muscles, a large chest or other bodily distinction, so much so that should her hair not be dyed she would blend into crowds easily and become non-distinct. When duty calls, Kumiko dons her black and amber lacquered family armor, bringing her yumi, arrows and wakizashi into the fight.

Her horse, Yuki, is as white as her namesake. Her back reaches an inch above Kumiko's height at full growth, with her head well above her little rider's when both stand next to each other. At a healthy weight of nearly a thousand pounds, Yuki is strong and swift of stride. Intelligent as much as a horse can be, Yuki has formed a strong bond with the smaller rider, responding well to commands and the emotions of the other.

Family: The Asahina family prides itself in being masters of the horse within the Shimakawa clan. They have always bred the strongest and fastest horses and are known for their ancestral mastery of riding them whether as scouts, messengers or into battle. While learning how to master horsemanship, archery and mounted combat, children are also tasked with tending to a new foal as they themselves approach genpuku age, so that their horse knows and understands them like none other by the time they are adults. All members of the family dye their hair white as symbol of their purity of goal and to emulate the family founder. Asahina, who was white-haired with age, was allowed to form the Asahina family when his mastery of horse and bow was praised by the Shimakawa's Daimyo of the time, who desired Asahina's talents to be passed down as they were then. The family colors are white and red. It's mon is a red outline horse head on top of a white circle.

Character Name: Mariko Takoda (Hostage)

Appearance: Mariko will never be a tall woman, probably no taller than five feet, at 14 she's already that tall. Her face may loose some of the baby fat that forms its roundness but she will always look much younger than she is. Her hair is traditionally black and long with a thickness that lends to his volume. Her eyes are dark brown and not as severe as her father's but still viciously intelligent. Her body is petite but proportional and more athletic than sexual.

Family: Mariko's mother is the great Lord Natsumi and her father is her second husband, Omi who replaced Lord Natsumi first husband who died protecting villages from mountain raiders. She is Lord Natsumi's third daughter, but the only one that is not married and her personal favorite. When Hotaka asked for Hostages Mariko quickly volunteered so that her brothers would not leave their parent's side. Mariko is the youngest of Lord Natsumi's children.

Ambitions: At the moment, Mariko's ambitions is to make it back home alive. She is more than proud to serve her family with honor, even if that means death. She always has, in the back of her mind, the goal of honoring her father and making certain that her family is protected. She is very intelligent, cunning, resourceful but can be very sweet. Like most of her rank, she knows her place and expects everyone else to know theirs as well. She does not tolerate rudeness, especially from her servants who always serve a double purpose.

Fox I am planning on players only having one character each so things don't get too hectic. But warrior priestesses are fine. Remember it can be a good idea to talk about character plans and work with me and others on things like family ties, relationships, etc.

Player Name: Fox Xalian
Character Name: Ten-no Akira
Appearance: Akira is a onna-bugeisha, for her family, as well as the resident miko, or priestess, at the local temple. As such when she is at the temple she wears the traditional Shinto priestess outfit and has a traditional fan with very thin blades along the edge, but when she is training or fighting she wears standard samurai armour, a cloth hat and wields a bow and naginata. When you look at her you would see black hair, although there is what looks like purple dye streaks through it, and brown eyes. She is a bit on the short side for her age, as well as a bit bigger around the waist and belly, giving her a flat-chested look, not that she was that big to begin with.

Family: The Ten-no, or Celestial, family has ties back to the first Imperial family, or so the stories say. A very honourable family with a strong presence both in the samurai and monk classes of society. Their family alliances include the Satsuki and Tachitomo clans, as well as being part of the Shimakawa family. The Ten-no family takes their history and reputation seriously.

Ambitions: To help bring her family back from obscurity and back to what the stories say they were. To find the truth behind the rumours of oni stalking the battlefields and help to cleanse them.

A part of me wonders if anyone will actually have their character be born in the year 200 so at the start ofthe RP, "Okay, describe what you are doing as a baby while being held by a parent. Hmm, I dunno if that's believable for a baby, you should probably be causing more of a scene." Or just be like "Suddenly you notice, a ringing in your ear, and people around you are being loud. It's pretty frightening."
