"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,"
-George Santayana
"And so it began, the Age of Fire.
The unsung warriors of the countless wars the world was suffered from,
Returned to the world,
To take the Horsemen back to their lordless thrones,
As they say, fire will always burn,
They have been through the Abyss,
And returned unscathed,
With the heads of demons in their hands,
The Walkers of the Abyss have become our last bastion of hope,
And so they did,
But as the fire flickers away,
A kingdom fell into darkness,
Souls were drifted into the Chasm,
And no one heard their sorrowful plea"
Spoiler: The History of OchlionLong before the Age of Man, the world was shrouded with death and darkness. The smell of the burning lands and the stench of giant corpses filled the air during the ancient times. The gigantic Titans roamed the lands, the monstrous Dragons as well as Wyverns conquered the skies and the collosal Hydras dwell in the seas.
But then, there were the humans. Smaller than the other majestic and dangerous creatures, they hid underneath the ground where no Giants, Dragons, Wyverns nor Hydras could find them. Then, a growing flame illuminates the darkness of the Underground, godlike beings was born. With them, the gods lead humanity to the surface to purge the Eternal Collosals.
Helios, the God of Flames ravaged the nests of the Dragons and Wyverns with his burning flames. Turning all of the winged creatures into ashes. Erebus, the God of Death unleashed an army of undead giants and dragons of his own, eradicating all of the Titans. Mithra, the Goddess of Decay unleashed a plague of disease to the Hydras, the seas turned red with their blood and its corpses remained floating on the sea. And finally, Carindor, the God of War lead his loyal army of humans to purge every single of the Eternal Collosals, equipped with the finest weapons and armor Björn, the God of Smithing had created. While, Hera the Goddess of Creation treated the injured with her powers.
And with the extinction of the Eternal Collosals, the 5 Old Gods recreated the world, turning the grey and dull landscapes into lush green ones. And thus, the Age of Gods began. They renewed the face of the world and named it, Ochlion. Humanity prospered under the rule of the gods, until Erebus turned against them.
With Erebus' betrayal, the Age of Evil began. Erebus created an army of undead creatures, spanning from the dead Collosals to the humans. Erebus, appointed 4 humans worthy of receiving parts of his own power. He choses Grymnar, the Red Horseman, Boretheus, the White Horseman, Caranthir, the Black Horseman and Valdritch, the Dead Horseman. And together with Erebus, they marched upon the final bastion of humanity, Irathyll.
Irathyll, the last bastion of hope during the Age of Evil stood alongside the other 4 deities. Helios, Mithra and Björn lead their armies to confront the Horsemen's personal armies while Carindor himself confronts Erebus. The war lasted for half a century and ended with Erebus' exile into the realm humans called as the Chasm, a realm of the Dark. The Age of Evil, ended.
After the Age of Evil, there was the Age of Prosperity where the 5 Old Gods watches the humans from their own realm, Sanctuary. Humans built countless civilzations, many kingdoms rise and fall across time. Irathyll, the Old City was now known as the Bastion of Hope. Other great kingdoms stood alongside Irathyll, such as Hytlegaard, the Kingdom of Chivalry and Lothron, the Kingdom of Swords. And during this time, the Old Gods; Carindor and Mithra conceived a child, Acerius, the God of Light. And so does Helios and Hera, they had 4 children, Sera, the Goddess of the Night, Sentrium, the God of Valour, Asura, the God of Wrath and Rheanna, the Goddess of Wisdom. And the new generation of gods were known as the Gods of Order.
That age didn't last as much as the age that preceded it. The Age of Embers began as Erebus once again returned to destroy Ochlion. This time, Erebus managed to slay all of the Old Gods, leaving their children to go against the former God of Death who is now known as the God of Darkness. Acerius, appointed 4 of the most bravest humans to capture and conceal Erebus in the Mountain of Dragons and their names remains a mystery as they are referred to as the Dragonslayer, the Devout Knight, the Great King and the Mad Executioner. And with the Gods of Order, they finally restrain Erebus, for the time.
And with it, the Age of Peace began. Humans began to live in harmony for countless centuries as the Gods of Order watches the humans from above. After thousands of centuries, the Age of Fire came. The bodies of Erebus' Horsemen came to life, wrecking havoc across the lands once again. And so does the Oracleof Irathyll say, "As the Four Horsemen returned from the depths of death, warriors who once walked through the depths of the Abyss shall return to take the Horsemen back to their deathly thrones in the Chasm,"
The Walkers subdued the Horsemen, and so they fade away in time. Not one person ever mentioned their name nor their deeds. They thought it was the power of the new gods that banished the Horsemen back to their thrones. And with the Walkers' assistance, the Age of Man begins and prospered for thousands of centuries.
Spoiler: Gods of OrderAcerius

Spoiler: The Walkers of the Abyss
The Walkers of the Abyss
The unsung heroes of the wars between men and gods. These are the ones who have the ability to walk through the hellish world known as the Abyss, through the dark world known as the Chasm and returned unscathed. They are unknown to many, known to few. There are countless Walkers throughtout the infinite centuries, and many of them died protecting the world. And on this very day, when the Four Horsemen returned. The Walkers shall return as well.
Brief History
"They are borned with fire, made with fire, feared by the dark,"
The Walkers of the Abyss were first created with the sole purpose of countering Erebus' Horsemen. Once they were many, now they were nothing more than the unsung heroes of the wars humanity had fought. But, they have a unique connection to the Horsemen. Whenever a Horsemen return, the Walkers return as well. The creation of the Walkers is different, Helios chose the bravest men he could find and infused them with his own blood. Thus, the First Walkers were created by a blood of a god.
Possessing great physical strength and mental barrier against the temptations of darkness, the Walkers ventured through the Abyss, thus giving them the name; Walkers of the Abyss or simply Abysswalkers. Some say that they do not live, nor die. They say that these Walkers are walking between the borders of life and death. Whenever a Walker dies, they will resurrect whenever Ochlion was in dire need of an assistance. And so they ventured through the hellish realm and into the Chasm where the Walkers confronted thousands upon thousands of Erebus' horrid creations. Reducing the burden that humanity have to carry.
Abilities
An Abysswalker possesses an immense strength and a strong mental barrier which prevents them from wholly succumbing to the dark temptations in the Chasm. They also have great speed, agility and reflexes as well as keen eyesight. To add all that, the Walkers have the ability to manipulate fire.
Spoiler: LocationsThe world of Ochlion has only one continent, the supercontinent of Djura. To the north we have the Frozen Isles, to the east we have the Sand Forts, the west we have the Iron Kingdoms and to the south we have the Independent States. In the centre of the continent we have 5 different cities, Irathyll, the Bastion of Hope in the middle, surrounded by Mirdana, the Sacred City, Karesh the Trading Capital, Cymdor the Iron Keep and Qush, the City of the Wise.
The northern part of Djura was ruled by Konungr Björgin and his men, the White Wolves of Djura. They resemble the Vikings of medieval ages. To the Sand Forts, it was united under banner of Sultan Haqim III, the Golden King of Aramis. In the South, they have no leader to lead. And to the Iron Kingdoms, it under the supreme rule of Emperor Castus XIII, the Silver Emperor of Hytlegaard.
The Culture
The Frozen Isles resembles the culture of the Scandivanian vikings. Raiding and pillaging villages. Viking houses constantly threatening war against each other. The Sand Forts resembles the medieval culture of the Sultanates, and maybe the Persian Empire. The Independent States have free will on their culture, whether it be a mix of the Iron Kingdoms or the Frozen Isles. Part of the Iron Kingdoms resembles medieval Britain while part of it resembles Rome.

Imperial Control
The Central Cities (Irathyll, Mirdana, Karesh, Crymdor, Qush) are under the direct rule of the Tiberian Empire which puts them under the Imperial command. The Tiberian Empire, ruled by the 20th Tiber, Emperor Augustus Theradeas Tiber ordered his men to be garrisoned at the cities. The Central Cities were part of no kingdoms nor empires, they stand independently and act on their own.
Spoiler: Kingdom of TyreusFar to the north of the Central Cities, and before the Frozen Isles. The Kingdom of Tyreus is no more. Fallen thousands of years ago, the kingdom had succumbed to the control of the darkness. Many knights came and never returned until one succeeded, this knight told the other kingdoms to not enter the kingdom for it will surely destroy one's soul. Demons resided in that kingdom and even the supposed-to-be extinct dragons. As the word spread about the survivor, a prince tried tp enter the kingdom, and as expected, the prince never returned.
Rumours said that whoever enters the gates of Tyreus shall be burnt into ashes or turned into mindless beings.
Spoiler: Current state of the worldNow, the Walkers have returned once again. Not to save us, not to protect us, but to eliminate us all. Unknown by men, unsung by men, the Walkers have come to bring back Men into ashes of the Age of Titans. The Sand Forts were littered with corpses, the Independent States were burnt to the ground, and the Iron Kingdoms fall one by one. The Frozen Isles melted by the Walkers' mindless wrath. The Central Cities now remained as the final refuge for humanity.
In the Temple of Carindor, the Oracle had prophecised their wrathful return, "The once saviors of humanity now became our cause of extinction, many can't stop them, a few could,"
Spoiler: TechnologySet in medieval times, the kingdoms and cities of Ochlion have the same level of technology as our own medieval ages. Swords, axes, bows and such. Siege weapons such as ballistas do exist as well. Oh, and trebuchet. The hygene levels of this world is also similar to those of the medieval times.
Magic do exist here but is shunned by most. Only learned by mages that are capable of adapting magic. Most spells can only be casted with a wand/catalyst. The finest catalysts can be bought at Irathyll, which all mages called them as the Irathyll White Branch Catalysts.
Magic can be learned from the Central Cities. While melee-oriented classes get their supplies at various places but mainly at the Central Cities.

Barbarian
A brute, possessing an immense strength and prone to charge head on without thought. Most barbarians wield two-handed weapons such as axes and/or hammers, they can crush most enemies and break their korales. Possesses low Faith. Can easily be tempted by darkness if they do not resist
Hunter
Low armor but possessing great agility, the Hunters mostly hailed from the Southern Hold where dense forests can be found. Most hunters can be seen equipped with bows, daggers and a few traps. Possessing low Faith makes them prove to be tempted by darkness.
Spoiler: Extra infoWhat is Faith?
Faith is what the RP got its name. Faith is the 'mental barrier' between a human and the darkness. The higher the Faith is, the less susceptible you are to fall to darkness. Faith also serves as a character's immunity to curses. The only way to increase your Faith is to defeat several High Demons or an Abysswalker. The higher, the better.
What is the darkness?
The darkness comes from the Chasm, a realm which is outside of Ochlion; space. Within the Chasm, powerful entities known simply as the Dark Gods reside there and constantly whispering into the ears of humanity. The cause of kings becoming mad with power is caused by the Dark Gods, who wants nothing more than bringing humanity into an eternal age of chaos.
Whoa. Finished all that. Typed with my fingers aching right now . I'm sorry if I made you to read that large wall of words. Below are a few spoilers about the development of the RP.
Spoiler: NotesShield Without Faith drew many inspirations from many forms of entertainment, mostly video games. Most notably from the video game: Demon Souls as well as its successors, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, and Dark Souls III
The first draft of the RP is literally similar to Dark Souls and I'm glad I scrapped and made a new one. This time, I tried to instill the same element plots from King's Field III, where players venture into a city/kingdom to find out the cause of your character's father went insane.
As you can see, it's not present. So, I tweaked some stuffs and finally made it to the final goal. Where the Walkers return and normal humans shall bring them back to their graves.
And from there I went on to build the world, adding gods and goddesses to the Ochlion mythos, kingdoms, cities, and other stuff. But some of the stuff I'll reveal in the IC. I plan to put in items for characters to use but in my mind I though, "What do you think this is? A video game?"
And some of the names are direct references to video game characters.
Obvious references are the Walkers which are the reference to DS3's Abyss Watchers.
I've also put some references to my other RPs. Ochlion, the world where this RP is set in is once the setting for my Legends of Ochlion RPs. The Bane of the Beasts, is different than the ones found in Hellbound: Ultimate and War respectively.

Dragons
The dragons of the ancient times are no more. Or so they say. There are still some speculations that dragons still exist. These towering dragons once flew across the skies of Ochlion during the Age of Titans until most of them were declared dead during the long war. Larger dragons were named as Titan Dragons, medium ones were called as Dracons and smaller ones were called Drakes.
Titans
Titans are large humongous creatures that once conquered the lands of Ochlion. Towering humans, these gigantic monstrosities posed a great threat to humanity. But many thought that they were extinct at the end of the Age of Titans but some were slumbering in the depths.

Resurrected bodies. These Undead are once the vessels of souls, now resurrected without one. Remained as a husk of their former selves, the Undead wanders the streets of Tyreus, forever threatening those who enters the kingdom's cursed gates.

Once known as the executioners of the sinners, the Butchers are now the living dead. The Butchers wield heavy greataxes and attacks anyone on sight. They are blind but they can 'see' with their great sense of smell. Its the stench of blood which drives them mad.
