May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental health is a sensitive topic. Those that suffer often do so alone, as a large part of society doesn’t understand what it is to have a mental illness. It’s often seen as the fault of the sufferer that they are affected in the first place. As if they have complete control over what is happening and can just turn it off.
Mental health is just like any health. It must be coped with and treated, just as one would go to the doctor for an infection. Some of them can be treated with medications, others with therapy. However, all who are affected need the care and support of those around them. They need to know that they do not have to suffer alone.
For this month of May, please consider supporting those who are daily coping with a mental illness. Join our discussion, wear a sig set supporting one of just many mental illnesses (switch sets often if you wish), or just take the time to remind people that they are cared for. A little love can go a long way.
Anyone can wear any sig they wish.
The above sets are based off (and limited by) the work by artist Toby Allen (https://www.zestydoesthings.com/realmonsters#_=_) started a project aimed to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and aims to educate about lesser well known conditions. It is an ongoing project set about exploring mental health through character design.
If there is another illness that you’d like to support that is not above, feel free to request a set made. It would be helpful if you had an image selected.
Thank you to Hayabusa for helping to make the sets.
