    Hmm some interesting choices.

    I think maybe I should give the Forgotten Realms series another try. I think at the time I just didn't get into the writing style.

    Well as I said on the OP my original list was based purely on dwarfs of the fantasy kind that are a different race.

    As I see it personally human dwarfs or humans with dwarfism are really a separate thing.

    I actually prefer Dain to Thorin. In the book Thorin just comes over a bit haughty and not really much of a leader.

    (Actually I think one aspect the Peter Jackson films did a good job with was making Thorin into a much stronger character, helped by excellent casting of Richard Armitage who is perfect at playing brooding characters.)

    Pikel Bouldershoulder, I mean come on - Bruenor may be a great archetypal dwarf, but he still doesn't have the honour of being the only dwarf to ever become a druid, and nor does he fight with a tree trunk as his shillelagh.
