Default [PG-13] Dresden Files: No Title Character (IC)

March 13, 2016. Spring will be starting soon, and Saint Patrick's Day is right around the corner. Speaking of St. Patty's Day, the annual meeting of the Leprechauns happens every year on Saint Patrick's Day, just in time for the change over from the Winter to the Summer Court. The date is mostly coincidence. It used to be on the same day as the switch over from the Winter Court to the Summer Court, but human traditions sort of pushed them towards a more...suitable date.

Ronan Mac Murchu, a prominent member of the Leprechaun community, has summoned a small group of beings in the supernatural community for a special job. Some of them owed him a favor (or else he bought their favor from someone else). Others are just curious to see what he has to offer. Still others accepted out of promise of gold and rarities.

Whatever their reasons for accepting, four strangers (or at best mild acquaintances) now sit in a cheap conference room at a Radisson Hotel. The odd collection of a particularly short pharmacist, an entrepreneur, a cash-for-gold shop owner and a collector/dispenser of oddities don't seem particularly qualified for anything, and Ronan hasn't arrived yet, so what could the little trickster have in mind?

Adam McKnight looked around the room at the gathered people. He felt as calm as he always did with memebers of the supernatural community, he was the errand boy for the local esoterica shop called Bottles and Books, a metaphorical Wal-Mart for the Chicago supernatural community. Even so, such a boast most 25 year old, blonde haired, blue eyed, all American Boy type could not make. Of course, most people of any description didn't carry around a Sword at their hip. The sword wasnt that impressive look wise, onlt 7 and a half inches wide and a little over 3 feet long, the hilt was bronze with two Greek symbols carved in the center, on one side Alpha, the other Omega. Wraped lacquered wood cord shapes the handle, pot marks on the cord makes it look like the cord was salavged from thron bushes. Around several of the pot marks are dark stains reminiscent of dried blood. Anyone sensitive to auras might feel a slight pulse emanating from the sword. Mac Murchu asked specifically for Adam to bring the Sword, which meant he wasn't here for the store. But he did owe the Leprechaun something for the blarney stone he was sent to find last year, and Adam liked to repay his debts quickly, well so would any sane person who owed a menber of the fey. What surprised Adam most was he recognized some of the pther people in this room, by reputation if not by name.

Yen Won Yuan (Money, Money, Money) bounces into the room with a pair of golden Beats(TM) pumping some noise that can only be presumed to be bass heavy. His K-pop build has no problem slipping past Mcknight to the far head of the table. His white puffy coat covered in designer logos exhales air as he lands in a chair and proceeds to put his Nikes(Tm) up on the table. He flips his hat onto the edge of his foot with a toss and starts quickly inputting a thousand keystrokes on his gold colored iphone(tm). His dark hair and dark sunglasses make it hard to discern his exact ethinicity until he answers an old Nokia(tm) as it rings. He begins answering quickly with one word answers until finally he says a lot of stuff quickly in Korean. He puts both of his devices in his coat and pulls out an old rotary phone from somewhere in his coat. He flips the numbers around for a bit and then says in English, "Yeah, I'm here." Some rumbling can be heard from the earpiece that Yuan holds to his ear, "I can handle it. If all goes well our 4th quarter should be fantastic. Not housing market 2008 good, but still. Pretty Fly. Haha, you get the joke. I'll call again once I'm done. Stay lucky, player!" Yuan then puts away the device and takes off his coat. He starts spinning a gold ring on his finger (a nervous tick). He stretches his neck revealing a tattoo of a smiling dragon holding an over-sized coin ((MARK OF POWER CHECK IF YOU WANT IT)).

Yuan finally takes note of the people around him. Seeing the giant sword out on display he pulls out a colt .38 chiefs special from his coat and gingerly places it on the table for everyone to see. He then goes back to leaning back spinning his ring.

The Walgreens pharmacist had chosen the seat nearest the window in the conference room, gracefully sat down, and placed her black briefcase-like purse next to the foot of her chair - out of the way, but easily monitored. She'd come to the meeting straight from work and was still in her uniform. Her name-tag read "Polly". Brushing her long black bangs, she surveyed the group through her "prescription" thick-rimmed and rather stylish black Vogue glasses (not that she actually needed them).

Polly wondered exactly what this job would entail. Something she would be useful for, obviously, which followed. Ronan Mac Murchu had somehow bought her favor that she'd owed Lantanys and, though she didn't know him personally, anybody that knew anything in the Seelie community was aware that Ronan was an important Leprechaun. It followed that this job involved helping him obtain more wealth - not surprising, and probably not particularly difficult if approached properly.

The woman turned her attention to the blonde fellow: nothing too exciting, but the sword intrigued her. Wait, wasn't he a cashier somewhere? Oh, yes, Bottles and Books - it must be.

A boisterous wannabe-gangster-type bounced into the room. Lovely. At least he was of the variety that seemed to keep his pants pulled up - there's different sorts of gangsters, you know. The guy sat down and took some phone calls. Korean. Interesting. She had to stifle a laugh as she eavesdropped on the second phone call. Okay, maybe he was an actual gangster. Acceptable - but still not quite her style.

Well-postured and hands folded in her lap, she continued to survey the room, politely smiling and nodding at anyone deciding to make eye contact. Even in uniform, she was by no means unpleasant to look at - and never let on that she knew it.

Adam glanced at the pistol then locked eyes for a brief moment with the wanna be gangster, as soon as he felt some force pulling at his stomach he averted his eyes to the man's forehead as soon . Reflexively he flex that inner part of his mind that was connected to the sword. Just briefly the arm closest to the sword shimmered with golden light that formed a gauntlet.
Calm your self. You will find more power in tranquility then passionate displays The voice, as always, spoke with Shiro's voice. It was the voice of reason that flared when he was about to do something stupid.
You're right. This isn't the time or place for that. Adam took a deep breath and ceased the flow of power that made his protections visible.
Glancing at the woman, Polly her name tag read, he couldn't help but notice how short she was. Nor how beautiful, not may people with her looks working at Walgreen's, she didn't seem quite normal to Adam, but he couldn't put a finger on it.

"Looks like whatever the old codger has planned is big. He normally doesn't like to call in so many favors at once unless he has more to replace them." Adam spoke this allowed to break the tension in the room. No point in sitting her boding, that was for old wizards.

The cashier with the sword spoke. Either he was uncomfortable with the silence - as mortals often were - or fishing for information. Perhaps it was both, but a little polite conversation would not hurt anyone - at least not Polly.

"So you've worked with Mr. Mac Murchu before?" she asked the young man pleasantly.

    Adam looked at Polly

"Once, i was looking for a Blarney stone. For my boss at Bottles and Books. A white council wizard wanted it for something but they aren't easy to find, supposedly only leprechauns know where they are. He pointed me in the right direction and i gave him a favor in return. You know how the Fairy Folk are."

Morgan Lloyd sat surveying them unobtrusively, as someone who had been around the supernatural world for as many years as he had always did. He wondered if the Knight knew the pharmacists true nature. He of course knew all three of them because they worked in stores that he leased, and he always made it a point to know the supernaturally inclined that he did business with, even if through a third party.

To call Morgan Lloyd unattractive would be to lie. However, you might call him plain. Though he was the picture of tall, dark and handsome, his features were so cliché as to be easily ignored. It was the way Morgan held himself that drew a person in. Something in his eyes, perhaps, those eyes that seemed to hold so many memories.

Morgan had only accepted Ronan's offer out of curiosity, but none of the room's occupants set off alarm bells that this would be more trouble than it was worth, and the presence of a Knight of the Cross meant it couldn't be too immoral. He supposed this one might be merely a carrier of the sword and not a devout believer, such things were known to have happened.

There was that one guy who was friends with a dragon. That guy made Morgan a bit nervous. A mortal with influence over a being of that power was a wild card. You never knew how stable they might be...

As Morgan contemplated his soon-to-be associates, the door opened and man in an Italian suit richer even than Morgan's own walked through. He couldn't have been 4 ft tall, but he held his head up so high that he must've thought himself a giant.

He sauntered haughtily up to the chair at the foot of the table, as if declaring that it was in fact the head, and hopped up on the chair in a way that reminded Morgan more of a cartoon character than a businessman. He stood on the chair and planted his palms on the table, Morgan would have laughed at the picture if he didn't think their host would be offended.

If anyone snickered or made a comment, the little man, who Morgan assumed was Ronan, didn't seem to notice as he appraised the room before saying, "I'm sure you're wondering why I've gathered you all here today?"

He frowned, "Wait, where's the elf?"

Morgan replied calmly, "These three and myself are all who have arrived as yet. We are, of course, wondering why we are here. Your invitation was vague, or mine was at least."

The leprechaun grumbled something under his breath about elves and how unreliable they are that wouldn't be safe for children's ears, before pressing on undaunted, "As well you should all know, the annual Council of Leprechauns is meeting in a few days. What you probably don't know is that this year marks the crowning of a new Lord of the Leprechauns."

He paused for effect. There was none. He coughed and went on, "Niall Mac an t-Saoir is as embarrassing to leprechauns as Lucky Charms, and I want to humiliate him for decades to come.

"Niall has shown up so late so often that we don't even wait for him to show up before we start the meetings anymore." He looked at the door as if expecting someone to enter on cue. "However, it would be a grave insult to the new Lord if he didn't show up at all.

"That's where you come in. I want you to...discourage him from attending."

He looked around to drive his intent home, "As payment, and to further destroy his reputation, I will vouch for your right to keep his Pot of Gold. You'll have to steal that yourselves, of course, but I'm sure I can convince the council to let you keep it if he is so disrespectful as to miss the entire meeting."

He laughs at a joke only he seems to get before asking, "So, any questions?"

He gets a bright smile as he finishes and looks around at everyone expectantly.

Sturring in his seat Adam stared hard at the leprechaun.

"If this Naill is so unimportant l, why tap so many favors just to keep him from showing up? "

"Hearts, stars, horseshoes, and bullshit. You call me out here to throw little guy in van for a few hours, then do yakuza bullshit to find a 24 karrot buckets worth. Expenses plus the backlash if we have to let him live does not equal out. Especially if the UK worth of gold drops next week for some reason i know nothing about..."

Yuan looks over at Polly. He looks like he might be just reading the name tag really closely or he could be looking at something else. He smiles and snaps a picture of her with the flash on. A smile flashes across his face.
    "hwangag. neo mwo sum-eoiss-eo?"

The funny thing about supernaturals and people using veils is that sometimes they forget to make the pupils dilate just right.
