That could be possible as the process was irreversible to begin with. The "miracle medicine" is a gene-engineered byproduct of a mutation caused in the cells of the extraterrestrial DNA. Essentially, the extraterrestrial symbiont that was synthesized with human DNA caused the DNA to mutate, causing the writhing mass of tentacled flesh we'd see in the story.
