Default [M] A Dark Fantasy (Holey & Elizabeth) IC

In the world of turalisj tonash, humans co-exist alongside elves, dwarves, dragons, and countless other intelligent life forms. Some of these races use magic, others less so, but tensions between them have always been strenuous. One thing that was common for everyone, however, was the worship of higher beings... celestial superbeings who represented various aspects and ideas.

As magic is largely powered by sentiment, Faith has a power of its own. When a society comes together, and develops their own beliefs and religion, these beliefs give birth to very real creatures, who, over time, are revered and worshipped as gods. The collective faith of a people manifests as Divinity, granting these deities godlike powers. Some of them use their divine power for good, and others for evil.

Despite the fact that mortals consider deities to be immortal, they can be killed. By each other, or by one who knows how to kill the normally unkillable. One such man, known as the Godslayer by the various deities of the world, was on a mission.

Using Conjuration magic to visit a higher dimension, he found himself in the dark realm of Daedara, home of Corvus, a goddess of Darkness. Said to descend from the God of Death, Corvus had yet to pick a side in the upcoming war between the gods... but as death and darkness have quite a few hostile implications, most feared she would side with the evil gods of murder, famine, and destruction. This was to be prevented, and so, the Godslayer decided to pay her a visit in person.

Approaching the gates of a shadowy castle, he showed no fear in the fact of the shadowy creatures that made up her army. Instead, he simply approached. "I'm here to see Corvus," he said to the guards. "You can either escort me in to see her, or be knocked aside as I simply walk on in anyway."

She laid there, in a bed of what appeared to be cloudy and black; a smoke-like substance. It trailed off the edge of her blackened bed in slow and careless waves. It was a soothing sight, to watch the darkness roll off like inky mist, while shadows danced at her bedside. The bed was a soft mass. It caressed her edges in a pleasant embrace. Her golden and black colored eyes were set closed as she listened to the gentle hiss of the darkness around her. It soothed her uneasiness.

Corvus's relaxation was cut short by an audible, but quiet whistle. She slowly opened her eyes to find a pair of yellow and bright ones staring at her. A vague form of a man was shaped before her, structured by darkness.

    Basil.

The general bowed before her and with a gravelly and husky voice he uttered, "My Goddess."

Corvus steadily sat up, "I know." Her voice was like that of honey and silk, pleasant with a strange and subtle monotone nature. She looked the other creature in the eyes. Her face void of expression, one might find it difficult to read what her mind may be thinking in that moment. She could feel the other shift uncomfortably. Basil was a good soldier but his obvious feelings for her disrupted their professional relationship.

Corvus floated silently from the bed and touched her bare feet to the wooden flooring. It was cold beneath her feet, and the wood had a Macassar-ebony appearance.

    Spoiler: Corvus's Bedroom

She now stood at the left side of her bed, a simple five feet and seven inches is where she stood before the soul known as Basil, who in turn stood before her at six feet and four inches.

"What would you have me do?" Basil responded.

"Watch him," Corvus spoke without a hint of hesitation.

"Very well, My Goddess." And Basil had vanished in a wisp of black smoke.

Standing alone, Corvus could feel agitation creeping up her spine. She did not take kindly to others trespassing in her territory, especially this one. She was oddly territorial unless of course, the God of Death waltzed into her area. She welcomed him... but he never graced her with his presence. It had been decades since he had. Her eyes shifted to her hand at the thought of him. She loved him. She loved him as a daughter would love her father. She wondered if he had ever felt she was a daughter - someone to protect and love and give guidance to. In the beginning, it had felt that way.

Corvus bit her lower lip lightly and moved to the entrance of her bedroom. She commanded the darkness around her to open the door with a wave of her hand. Outside of her chambers was an empty and gothic hallway. It was quite dull - only red and black seemed to decorate the place with unseemly placed red roses here and there. The castle she resided had many twists and turns that a myriad of visitors deemed confusing and undesirable.

She came to an abrupt stop at an enormous set of double doors. With a wave of her hand, shadows crept and opened it slowly. As soon as they were opened just enough, Corvus slipped inside and continued her float onward to the throne at the end of the room. The throne room was vast and aged - musky and strangely refreshing. Her toes barely touched the smooth, obsidian-like rock beneath her.

    Spoiler: The Throne Room

She glanced over one side of the walkway, down below she could see a small portion of the Lake of Solace and Disharmony. The blackness grabbed for her feet as she floated by. The lake itself seemed to have a mind of its own, for it adored its monarch. Corvus smiled warmly and let the lake brush against her as she continued onward. There were various places that the lake seeped in through the castle - the throne room being one of them.

Corvus glided up the steps and took a seat at the throne, a blanket of darkness softening the spot. She was rather delicate.

She rested there for a moment before Basil came before her once again.

"He wishes to see you, My Goddess."

Corvus's expression shifted to that of annoyance as her brows furrowed. She considered for a moment before replying with, "He's dangerous." Her anxiety was beginning to pick up. Although his presence from the very moment he entered Daedera had been immensely unnerving, she hadn't been worried. She assumed he would have moved on... but now he was here, wanting to see her.

Basil did not respond, he knew when and when not to speak. This was not the moment to voice concerns when the Goddess of Shadow and Darkness already knew what they were up against.

"Fine," The Goddess responded, "let him come forth."

The gates of the dark citadel opened before him. It seemed the mistress of this particular castle knew better than to attempt to impede him by force. Though the gates opened, it was difficult to say if it was in a welcoming or foreboding manner. Either way, she hadn't attempted to kill him, and so, he would show the same courtesy to the shadowy soldiers that he passed on the way to the throne room.

Though the way was lit by white flames, it was otherwise quite dark, with tinges of red as well. Not exactly the most homey decor, unless you were a goddess of darkness, he supposed. It was clear that the shadows which served the goddess were intensely anxious of the man's arrival, but he paid them no heed, continuing to head forward until he was before the throne room.

The enormous doors opened before him, and the man approached the dark throne that marked the seat of the mistress of this citadel of darkness. He doubted the goddess received many guests, much less those who didn't show any fear in her presence. Her general stood ready to attack him at a moment's notice, though it would be a rather futile attempt on his part. The only one present who could pose a challenge to the Godslayer was the goddess herself.

"Hello, Corvus," he said eventually as he came to a stop in front of her. "Can I call you Raven, or do you prefer Crow?" He gazed at her face, examining her features closely, as if inspecting her. "Usually you're portrayed as having a rather scary looking cloak conceal your features... but you're actually quite pretty, aren't you?"

Corvus could feel imminent dread fill the pit of her dark heart as the one known as the Godslayer neared. She could also feel Basil tense up. He was exceptionally protective of the goddess, Corvus knew that quite well.

The doors opened and in came the man she had been anticipating for what seemed like hours. However, his immediate words irritated her. He disrespected her without the slightest bit of uncertainty. She felt disgusted and insulted that he even proposed a sort of compliment to her. She found it degrading. The only reason she was not cloaked was due to the fact she felt it would be pointless in the presence of such a man.

Pretty. In her mind, she scoffed at the undignified term.

She ignored his half-gestured remark, "Corvus will do," she said tonelessly, "what is that you want? What is your reason for entering my realm?" Corvus assumed he at least had common courtesy. Surely... he was not a completely impolite being. Although the goddess herself had never essentially met him, she had heard many tales, particularly from the God of Death. The Godslayer was most definitely a force to be reckoned with. She knew she mustn't let her pride get the best of her, she had to bite her tongue and that bothered her greatly.

The Godslayer smirked somewhat at the way the shadow goddess greeted him. He had expected this sort of greeting, so it didn't really come as a surprise, nor did it phase him. Instead, he just shrugged off her words. "It's clear you don't get a whole lot of visitors," he remarked. "Your hospitality really sucks." He took a few steps closer, much to the concern of the shadowy general who stood guard over her, but drew forth nor weapons, and showed no real aggression towards her.

"You're supposed to say something like... 'Welcome to Daedara, my name is Corvus, and I'll be your hostess in this dark realm. Can I get you some tea? Would you care to stay for dinner?' You know.. that sort of thing. You should give it a try sometime." While it was clear that the goddess didn't welcome his presence, nor did she say or do anything to openly insult or show hostility towards him, though it was quite clear that she seemed to want to.

"Anyway, I'm guessing you've heard of me," he remarked. "To answer your question... I wanted to meet you. Get to know you a bit. I haven't decided what sort of relationship we're going to have... at least not yet... but with you on that throne, it sort of messes up the effect, you know? Isn't there some place we can go for a more... relaxed type of dialogue? Throne rooms are way too formal, for my taste."

Corvus glared at the Godslayer. His words itching at her nerves, she did not want him here. She shifted to a more relaxed position, mulling over his aggravating comments. His way of speaking and how he portrayed himself bothered her. He appeared to be too arrogant. However, he had every right to be. He was powerful and capable of utterly destroying the most dominating of gods. Although Corvus's abilities were not to be underestimated, she was useless without her shadows and darkness - without her army. And this man before her could nullify all that, leaving her stripped of defenses. The thought sent a chill down her spine as she continued to glare at the Godslayer.

She wasn't sure what he meant by what kind of relationship they may have but she acknowledged it nonetheless in her mind. In addition, she acknowledged her lack of hospitality. Corvus was a naturally hostile and feral being; trying to stay tame and wholly polite was a strain. Albeit she was usually passive about her behavior, there have been some occurrences where she had shown her ferocity - it is simply not something she does often... only on unusual occasions.

Corvus delicately allowed the darkness around her to stand her up, and she floated down to the Godslayer. Her pride granting the better of her for just a moment, she enabled herself to float just an inch higher of him. Unfortunately, his aura caused her to tense up and she looked down at him with a hint of what might have been helplessness and dismay in her eyes.

She finally tore her eyes from him and slowed back down to her own level, sliding away from him and towards the end of the throne room, "If you want hospitality, fine. I will give you that."

    "Thank you, Master."

The Godslayer did indeed have a tendency to be incredibly direct and straightforward. Though he attempted to include some degree of politeness in his dialogue when greeting the goddess, he could easily shift into not-nice mode at a moment's notice, should he become annoyed. It seemed his reputation had indeed preceded him in attending this meeting, so he didn't need to talk about himself or what he could do. The goddess clearly knew who and what he was.

Watching as the woman floated off her throne, the man noted the way she hovered just high enough above the ground to be taller than him. Though it seemed she was glaring at him, he thought he sensed fear and anxiety in her eyes, rather than a resolve to punish the man who dared intrude in her dark realm. However, she wasn't foolish enough as to provoke his wrath, as her next words indicated some sort of deference to his abilities.

Smiling slightly at her words, the man gave a nod. "Now that's better," he said. "Shall we go somewhere more... comfortable, then?" He offered the goddess his elbow, a gesture which indicated that he expected her to take hold of it so that he could escort her through her own castle. Perhaps it was a bit much, but it was at least an attempt at civility on his part, even though it might very well come across the wrong way.

"I want to know more about you, Corvus," he said to the goddess. "What do you desire? What makes you tick? And what do you plan on doing about this war that's likely to cost the lives of many deities such as yourself?" She hadn't picked sides yet, but no doubt she had received a great deal of pressure to do so. Had she actually chosen a side, there was a high chance that the Godslayer's visit would have been... significantly less civil.

Corvus tensed up again. She glanced at his extended elbow before reluctantly sliding her arm through to hook around his. However, his words after she had tucked herself close to him set her nerves even further over the edge. The shadows around them flickered with annoyance and the darkness that kept her afloat danced as if provoked, ready to attack. She could sense Basil shift positions as he felt his goddess's unease and hostility towards the Godslayer grow. The Lake of Solace and Disharmony lapped angrily over the walkway.

She closed her eyes for a split moment and put up her free hand to calm Basil and the lake, "I have not decided on what I am going to do." She could sense her other soldiers at the ready, all of them tense and ready to protect her at a moment's notice. They calmed slightly at the raise of her hand. She let down her arm and continued, "Now, Basil. Lead the way." She wanted her general in front, it would ease her discomfort to see him, and it would probably help to give him some sort of command.

The hallways stayed gloomy and gothic as they made their way to a smaller dining area. This particular dining room was built for a small number of guests. Corvus figured it to be adequate.

    Spoiler: Sub-Dining Area

Soldiers had already been ordered to pour two glasses of rich, red wine for the Godslayer and the goddess, while a meal was being prepped. Corvus had a wide range of foods from all over the universe. It was an odd quirk of hers - she adored food and drink. She liked trying new types of food and acquiring tastes. If there was one thing Corvus was impeccable at for hospitality, it was providing fantastic food and drink.

The white flames licking up the fireplace allowed her shadows to dance freely. It gave the dining room an ominous and uneasy appearance. Corvus found it comforting, however.

As the goddess gripped his arm in her own, the Godslayer could sense how incredibly light she was. Well, as a woman composed of shadows, it made sense that she wouldn't be incredibly massive, even if she assumed a humanoid shape. She seemed annoyed and nervous at his question, but he didn't push it further, simply listening and waiting for her answer as he made his way down the walkway full of discontent waters.

"I see..." he remarked, listening to her words as he followed the general. It was clear that this particular shadow's feelings for the goddess extended beyond mere loyalty, but that sort of thing was likely to do more harm than good, in this particular case. As the goddess floated alongside him, the Godslayer himself walked towards wherever it was that the general was leading them.

Eventually making his way to the dining room, he gave a nod of approval. "This is much better," he said, pulling out a chair for Corvus before sitting down next to him. The table was a bit too long for them to sit on opposite sides as was usual for formal dinners, and it would be too difficult to talk to her in such a situation. Accepting the wine that the general had poured, he didn't even bother to think that it could possibly be poisoned, and simply began to sip at it. "This is pretty good wine," he said, nodding with approval. "Who knew a goddess of darkness would have such good taste?"

Ominous though the lighting was, it was somewhat to be expected given who and what the hostess was, so the Godslayer paid it no mind. "Now then..." he said to Corvus, "Relax. Think of this as a date, and try to enjoy yourself. You can at least pretend to show some sort of interest in me," he said somewhat teasingly, gazing over to the woman to gauge her reactions.

Corvus sat the end of the table with the Godslayer diagonal from her. Basil stood to the side, little ways off but just close to enough to enable himself to protect the goddess if need be. It pleased her greatly to hear the man beside her appreciated the wine. She smiled uncharacteristically and took a sip from her own glass - a smile that just so happened to escape her without realization.

Yet, the Godslayer's next words irked her. A date - interest. Corvus cringed mentally. She could feel Basil begin ruffling with agitation and a sense of overprotectiveness washed over her. His overprotective nature did bother her to some extent, mostly because Basil's current behavior was fueled by clear jealousy by the Godslayer's simple jest.

She ignored Basil and took another sip of wine. Corvus was never one to drink more than a quarter glass of wine - she needed to be careful. Deity or not, she could still become drunk. And due to her nature and weight, it is an odd thing, she is easily able to become intoxicated.

She tried to bring a smile to her dark lips but fell a bit short of trying to make it appear voluntary, "Well I am glad you enjoy the wine." Corvus hesitated. She was not sure what more to say after his tease, especially with Basil looming like a hawk staring down at a male trying to steal his mate. Though in this case, Corvus was in no way interested in either entity. And she was in no way either ones mate.
