So I got my nose pierced a couple months ago on my eigteenth birthday. It was something I wanted to do for a ridiculously long time. I'm not fond of needles but I did it. After a while I started to get annoyed with it. I cared for it really well, cleaning it daily and such. It scarred up and I treated it and made it all better. But some days I would love it and some days it would make me feel trashy. I would feel like it drew attention to my nose. On top of that four out of every five girls around my college seem to have nose rings. It made me feel like it was a stupid teenage fad, something to do when you're eighteen just because you can. I didn't know what to do. A couple times I tried to take it out and had no idea how. The guy that pierced it had put it in and I had never changed it, I only had it for about three months. Then last night I was playing with it and finally forced it out. I couldn't get it back in. I miss it, but at the same time I don't miss it at all. That said, out of curiosity, what do the lot of you think about nose piercings? |

I really don't support any body peircing, I think it looks gross and its pointless. Its just making wholes in your skin that will take months to close. Ear peircing isn't that bad, but when it gets to nose and belly button it starts grossing me out. It looks nice and clean when you are dressed nicely with combed hair and clean clothing, and it looks dirty and unacheaving when you have body peircings, a greasey mohawk and dirty sluty clothing. It bothers me to see people who ruin themselves that way...A nose isn't so bad either, but there are boundries. |

Sexxxy. A bridge piercing is something I don't see too often, but it looks the best in my opinion. I would avoid a septum piercing. I can't help but be reminded of an angry bull when I see those. A nostril piercing is alright, but it is a bit common and has lost the "exotic" flair that I once viewed it as having.

It really depends on the person and the object really. I mean, some people look good with it, some don't. Like, I saw people with them when I went to school, and some I went, "Wow, he looks like a jackass." But I will always remember when this girl Cait got hers. She always had a rebel look about her, and I always found her sexy, and when she did it, it TOTALLY complimented my views. And then there's the object. Sometimes when it's one of those little studs, it can really look good all around. I remember this girl Brittany that got one. She switched every so often between two objects. With the small non flashy stud, it really complimented the cute, but right when she'd show up with that big one, she'd look like a total whore. And I told her that, in nicer words of course. She listened to me. She always had guys flocking to her, but with my advice, that could have had half the school on a whim. Like I said, it all depends the Person and the Piercing. |

I've got one myself, because I don't really like my nose and thought it would improve with a piercing. It did, actually. I also wanted it for a ridiculously long time and yes, now that I have one, I can see almost every other girl walking around with one. But you shouldn't care about that - if you wanted it for a long time, it's probably not a fad, but something you genuinely want. At least, that's how I feel about it. By the way, just out of curiosity, how did you treat it after it scarred up? |

I fully support a person's right to have nose rings. Just don't expect to get hired easily if you do have one. |

I have a septum nose ring and love it. I wanted a piercing for ages but I'm allergic to most metals, but finally got it done a few years ago. It is definitely weak how people will judge almost instantly about me having one, but I've had staunch "straights" reassess their issues with the alternative types after actually TALKING to me for a while. it's self expression and I enjoy doing that. And a septum piercing is still unusual enough that it is self-expression, and not merely "everyone's got a piercing now so I'll get one." And as far as hiring goes...I worked for a law firm. And i did so with a piercing, taking a day off for my back tattoo, and several different hair colour changes. So yes, if you can prove you can do the job, the septum piercing doesn't matter, it's getting more accepted, though there's always going to be the perpetually close minded. I am not "ruined" ... If you've got it, rock it. Edited by Nuviev, 10 Nov 2008, 03:05 PM.

Well when I say scarred up I mean my silly nose tried to heal and developed one of those little blisters of scar tissue. I made it disappeared with massive amounts of hydrocortisone. What s fun expirience that was! |

Heh actually, I have that same problem, which is why I asked. I used something called 'chloorhexidine' at the moment, but that may just be the Dutch name for hydrocortisone. It sounds the same, in a way...
I actually have to agree with Nuviev here. Before I got my nose pierced, I had the politeness to ask at my work if it was okay if I got one, before I went to the piercingshop. My boss had to laugh a bit and said that one of the managers of the other stores had a septum piercing, eyebrow piercing, multiple tattoos and ears full of earrings. I work at an optician, by the way, which essentially means you always have to look your best. It may not be the same as working at a law firm, but (facial) piercings are getting rather more accepted, I'd say. I've only received compliments since getting my nose pierced, and my boss didn't even notice at first, heh. |

Hydrocortisone is just a lotion-type ointment stuff. If chloorhexidine is anything like it then I'm sure you'll be fine. Mine cleared up in about three to four days, if my memory serves me correctly that is. My nose ring went over okay in the work place until I talked to this one nurse, I work in a hospital. She completely freaked out and gave me a fifteen minute lecture. It was quite irritating to say the least. She said something about me being involved in patient interaction and care but I honestly don't see how a nose ring is going to affect the level of care I give to a patient. On top of that I think my piercing would probably be the least of a sick person's worries.

Ah, mine is a liquidy stuff I have to wash it with, but I'll look into this hydrocortisone-stuff too, then. One can never be sure enough. ^^ My grandmother has a huge problem with my nosepiercing, but I really don't listen to her because I suspect she only has a problem with it because my father doesn't. My grandmother isn't a bad person, mind, but when I wanted a bellybuttonpiercing, she was against it until she found out my father was against it too; then she suddenly offered to buy me one for my birthday? Oh well, you'd be surprised at how little most people care for things like that. Like a piercing of any kind tells something about the kind of person you are? It's like saying one is a gothic because he/she wears black, it's silly really. But maybe the nurse was very conservative, or very shocked...? Either way, I don't like people giving lectures. I usually say to them earrings are piercings as well, which shuts them up quite nicely. My father tended to say: 'wie zijn neus schaadt, schaadt zijn aangezicht', which essentially means: mess with your nose, and you mess with your face. But I pointed out to him that it was my nose, that I was over 18 and that I'd do it no matter what he thought of it (I asked him out of politeness), and after that he never made a point of it. He kinda likes it, now that he's used to it. |

Chlorhexidine is an anti-septic. Hydrocortisone is an anti-inflammation.

There was one on the photothread before this one, but since there's a new one it's gone. I'd make a new picture, but it looks rather silly at the moment, with the scarry thing. ^^ Aanyway~ Click. This was ... a week after I got it at the end of august. It was still a bit red and I've got an even smaller one now. I was planning on buying a ring for april fool's, to scare my father shitless, but I'm not very sure. I'm allergic to every metal except gold.

My nose has been pierced for a for years now. It is a bit annoying in that I had it before it became some ultra cool fad, but I'm not going to give it up just because a bunch of other people are jumping on to be cool. |

Aye, Heraldic. I wanted a nosepiercing for... I think five or six years? before I finally got it (mostly because I had to wait until I was 18, my father would've never given me his permission, and then I completely forgot about it for a year and a half). I never cared for fashion, and actually I only noticed that almost everyone else had a nosepiercing after it was pierced, heh. It's enough for me that I know I genuinely wanted it.

You're so smart! ![]() I think I want to put mine back in. I started to miss it today when I didn't see it there in the mirror or out of the corner of my eye when the light hit it. I only have two problems. 1. I left the ring at home and headed back to college for the week. I'm going to have my mom mail it to me but that might take a couple days and I don't want it to close. 2. I don't know how to put it back in. ![]() I'm such an indecisive spaz sometimes. |

You had it for three months before you pulled it out, right? I don't think it'll close all that fast, but just to be sure I'd get a stud and put it in while you wait for your mother to mail the ring. If you don't know how to put the ring back in you could always go back to the piercer? That's what I did after mine fell out after a day, and he didn't make a problem of it.

Can I just put a regular earring in there until she sends it or is that a no, no? With my wonderful college kid budget I don't know if I can run out any buy a new noce stud. I suppose I will if I have to. |

If it's small enough, I think so.. the problem is with earrings is that they're thicker than nosestuds, and if it's thicker than the hole... well, you couldn't get it in. But I think nosestuds aren't that expensive. I got my current one for three euro's (five dollars I think?) and it's goldplated. |
