The crowd quieted as the bugles disharmoniously blared out, signaling the start of the pre-match ceremonies, only to burst into wild cheering as the figures far below slowly filed into the arena, the same arena which had seen the momentous semi-finals match a few short days ago. Phoenix Games Commissioner Chase Nauss soaked up the adulation, smugly waving, smiling, and protestrating himself to the crowd, erroneously believing he was the cause of the vivacious cheers. The crowd could not care less, not about him, nor his small entourage of bodyguards and Games executives. The packed arena was cheering because this ceremony meant they were one step closer to the bloodbath they all hoped for. Receiving secondary notice were the robed figures entering the arena after Nauss and his companions took their places. The cheers intensified as the Phoenix Games judges strode across the battlegrounds, displaying their unhooded visages proudly, no doubt with much spite for the commissioner. Past champions, all of them; they commanded much more respect from the Games' patrons than the stuffy executive ever could. As they slowly, deliberately, found their places behind the executives, Commissioner Nauss climbed the removable stairs to the display platform that held Serin Windstrike for all to see in the previous match. Still attributing the crowd's reaction to himself, he motioned them to silence as he rose. It was not until several minutes had passed, and the spectators realized that the match would not start until they quieted, that the uproar actually lowered in volume. “Welcome!” Nauss spoke when the crowd quieted, the crier's horn held before his lips projecting his words around the stadium. “The betting tables are closed, and the final match of the Phoenix Games shall commence shortly! Soon, we shall have a new member of the elite group you see below me, the Phoenix Games champions!” The crowd erupted again, although it was more reserved this time, and subsided after a few moments. The champions, for their part, mostly looked bored. In unison, they unsheathed their flaming swords, the trophy of the Games, and raised them up, pointing them at the crowd. For the older champions, these ceremonial weapons showed their age, their flames flickering weakly as the weapon's enchantment struggled to draw enough magic to burn while the newer blades blazed brightly, lighting nearly every edge of the arena. Suited for combat, these weapons were not, but they made a very impressive spectacle. As the champions sheathed their blades, Nauss continued. “I'd like to thank each of you, for your presence here. It is only through your support, your fares, that we are able to bring each of these competitor's dreams to life. However, I think the best way to thank you would be to step back and let the fight commence!” “Therefore, let me introduce the finalists! To my right, we have the tournament favorite, master of the blade of winds, the undefeated Serin Windstrike!” Half the arena burst into cheers as the competitor entered the grounds. “To my left, it's the wandering swordmaster, the exotic man from foreign lands, Kriss Mui!” The other half of the arena cheered just as loudly as this man came into view. “This is a fight the lucky ones of you have seen before, a revisitation of their earlier fight in the second round. Mui lost that match, but it was no easy victory, and he has great momentum coming into this match! No matter your race, craft, or nationality, this shall be a fight for all to enjoy! Save for the competitor on the receiving end of the blade, of course. This match shall be the pride of the Games for years to come!” His speech over, the crowd raised their cheers once more, not over anything he said, but over the fact that the match would be starting momentarily. Quickly, he and his entourage, as well as the champions, left the ring. Only one figure remained in the center, one of the champions. A blonde, aged man, he was one of the game’s earliest champions, and one of its most experienced judges. He swiftly covered his head with the robe’s hood, obscuring his features, and took a few steps forwards. Briefly glancing to each competitor to make sure they were ready, he silently extended his hand, then swiftly brought it down. The match had begun. Match ends Monday, December 8th. Got a good long time for this one, so don't feel rushed, just make good posts. Edited by 2nd Power, 12 Nov 2008, 12:19 AM.

Victory From Behind

[Yesterday morning] “So, why did you want to see me?” asked Kriss “Perhaps I should explain,” said the woman in the kimono. “About a hundred years in your future, there will be a critical battle taking place on earth.” Kriss blinked as the revelation was put into his head. He didn't know what to say to that except... “Sweet! You're from my future? Well, not my future, but from the future that happens after my time? Tell me, did they cure cancer?” “Funny enough, no, though HIV is well on the way to becoming a distant threat in our minds. Which, considering your knowledge of the two respective diseases, seems somewhat illogical. Anyway, I'd like to make a proposal to you. After this tournament, I'd like you to come help us in our battle.” “What's in it for me?” “Well, you get to live knowing that you stopped a terrorist mastermind even after your death.” “Oh really?” “I'm serious. It's not like we can pay you in cash. In the future, we don't even use what you call credit cards.” “Pass. I fail to see why I should even go there.” “Look, it's either you help the Empire willingly, or the Terrorists put a bomb inside you and threaten to blow it unless you help them. It's simple really.” “Hah, like that'll happen...” “It did happen. You participated in the battle on the side of the terrorists in the future I come from.” “... did you perhaps get the wrong guy?” “Nope. We can identify the DNA of any person 100% accurately.” “Damn. Well, alright, but I'd like to win the Phoenix Games before I go. I have a rematch scheduled for tomorrow.” The woman then smiled and turned around to leave Kriss alone to enjoy his time with his escort for the finalists. He had however declined being fed grapes. “By the way, what's your name?” asked Kriss just before she left. “Kaimetsu no Hana.” “... huh?” “In the future, names are different, especially for artificial humans.” --- “Just what did she mean by I'd have a bomb inserted into my body anyway...” muttered Kriss as he entered the arena. Kriss dragged the tip of his sword along the ground as he walked. Everything for the past few days was for this moment. “Well, this is it. A rematch... huh...” Then the battle started, and so did Kriss. Stomping his foot into the ground, he kicked off the arena floor and jumped upwards and backwards. There was no need for variety in this match for Kriss. No need to fool the enemy into leaving himself open to what would have been ultimately a secondary form of offence. The only thing that mattered now was to land hits at critical moments. Kriss was zoning and keeping his distance. Just enough for him to dash in, just enough to stay out of his opponent's sword's reach. And just enough to stop him from trying to escape into the air. |

Most anti-climatic ending ever. Well, I have to give the victory, and championship, to Tensa by default. Serin, I know Tensa still want's your character's head, so if you'd like, I'm sure you'd be able to challenge him to a non-league match. Well, that was fun. Congratulations to Tensa! The last match may have been a no show, but he didn't exactly have an easy time making it up here. And with that, the games are over and done. See ya! |

Victory From Behind

((Worst Episode Ever)) Kriss kicked off the air as Serin's sword moved through the space that once contained his legs. Then as Kriss dashed back, the two swords locked in place as they began to push against each other. Kriss was sent into the air, and Serin found himself staggering backwards. Both fighters were at neutral, with Serin attacking first. An energy blade shot through the air at Kriss, who simply spun to the side the get out of the way. Serin himself followed and managed to force Kriss onto the defensive. Kriss took two steps backwards after Serin tried to kick him in the stomach, before mounting his own offensive. Five spinning slashes later, Serin and Kriss were still even. However, Kriss wasn't going to let him get away, even for a second: if he transformed and fired those feathers, he'd have a hard time dealing with it. --- Kriss Mui. A high speed fighter, who pushes his specialties of Speed, Movement and Close Range so far that his shortcomings seem meaningless in comparison. No wonder that Infiniti tried to make a time machine for him... The cries of the crowd were deafening as Kaimetsu no Hana looked on at the battle. Serin and Kriss were dancing around each other, but Kaimetsu noticed something. "Is it just me, or is Serin using very little magic? No way. Kriss is pressuring so hard that he's getting hardly any openings! He's the ultimate MAGE KILLER!" --- Hell Hurricane!! Like I'll let you use such an attack! Serin's attempt to shoot multiple energy swords was stopped as Kriss clanged his sword against Serin's, resulting in only three energy blades forming, allowing Kriss to get into their blind spot. Serin tried a shoulder tackle, which didn't quite land. Kriss had managed to dodge the attack and land a kick to his shoulder. The kick didn't have enough force behind it, but it did put Serin off balance. PUSH!!! The No Dachi slipped through the air like a needle towards Serin, who then smashed it into the ground with a sword swipe. That gave him enough time to jump back, and grow a set of wings. --- Hooh? Kriss Mui is in trouble now. "He is in some sort of trouble, isn't he?" asked a short blonde girl next to Kaimetsu no Hana. "You're... THE DOLLMAKER!" "Hello, Kaimetsu no Hana." "You Infiniti scum..." "Now now, if we fight here, we'll both die, and we both don't want that." "What are you planning!?" "Me? I'm just enjoying the fight. Is that too much to ask?" "... you and I both know you're going to try and put a bomb in Kriss's body." "..." "What?" "You know, that's a great idea!" I FUCKED UP! Alice's face curled into a grin when Kaimetsu no Hana's eyes betrayed her surprise at her own failure. "Hehe, so you ended up causing my victory huh..." "NOT IF I CAN HELP IT!" "... crap..." --- The fight in the crowd was matched by the battle in the arena. Kriss had been put on the defensive, and he was now dodging feathers that were peppering the floor. His movement speed had increased over the course of the competition, and he was glad for this little bonus. More and more feathers kicked dust off the ground and Kriss decided to try a very risky manoeuver. He rushed in underneath them. The feathers drew streaks of blood down his back, and Kriss found that he was wincing slightly. He ignored the pain as these feathers gouged out small trenches in his flesh, and leapt after Serin when he was in range. Serin's feather fire slowed down and this gave Kriss a chance to attack straight back. He leapt into the air, and met Serin with his sword. Two clangs, and they broke apart. Kriss however, managed to grab onto both his legs before he fell, and then in a display of agility, managed to bring his right foot towards the back of Serin's head. Serin however, moved his wing to block the strike, but tha was enough to throw his balance and send them both towards the ground. Kriss let go and used a two handed sword cut to try and cleave Serin in half. Serin himself committed to a wing slash, and the two met in the air. Kriss however, feinted with the attack. Using the force of Serin's attack as a lever, Kriss brought his foot into Serin's chin. --- Alice couldn't use her puppets openly. Kaimetsu no Hana couldn't use her knife openly. They were just in a fistfight now, with Alice's boxing style being a truly stark contrast to Kaimetsu's Akido esque techniques. Fwip fwip... Alice's two punches were deflected to the side, and they both stumbled as their blows were averted. --- Serin and Kriss were back on the ground again, but now, Serin was stumbling. Kriss moved in for the killing blow but... "RAAAAAAAHHHH!" Serin's body seemed to burst with energy, causing Kriss to abandon his attack and defend. But really, how can you defend against something you can't even focus your eyes on!? A blur was now fighting Kriss. A blur which was physically stronger, and just as fast. The clashing of swords was all that could be seen of the battle, with Kriss getting scratches here and there as he was being beaten back. Crap, at this rate, I'm going to get pinned! --- The Kaimetsu vs Alice fight was now getting a bit of attention from the people around them, some not knowing whether to watch the main event in the arena in front, or the battle that was literally right next to them. Alice bobbed underneath one of Kaimetsu's kicks, before returning a counterjab which caught Kaimetsu's hip. Kaimetsu caught the arm, and applied a bit of pressure at the right place in the elbow. There was a cracking noise as it dislocated and both women opened distance between each other. Kaimetsu was limping slightly. Alice only had one hand up to guard with. The crowd around the two had fenced them in. --- Serin had pressed Kriss to the wall, and was raining attacks through the stone of the arena. Kriss himself was barely deflecting the attacks, and had gained a few new cuts to his arms. Then something lucky happened. Serin suddenly slowed. Kriss took advantage, and kicked him away before chasing him down himself. Kriss then attacked three times with the No Dachi. The first attack came down vertically towards his cranium. Serin stepped to the right to avoid it, but then Kriss used the butt of the sword as a ramming attack as he himself moved to the left to follow. Serin took the hit in his solar plexus, before Kriss put the No Dachi to his neck, drawing a very very thin line. --- "Oho! Our man has won!" "SHUT IT DOLLMAKER! I'M STILL YOUR OPPONENT!" Once the judge raised his hand to show the winner, Alice then tossed three dolls out to attack. Two of the lancer dolls were cut up by Kaimetsu, and the third met the edge of Kuji Kanesada. Kaimetsu no Hana was dressed in a white Kimono, with the katana in her right hand. "Prepare to die... Dollmaker." "Oh I'm ready. I have spare bodies, and I even think I got parts for YOU miss Kaimetsu!!" "HAAAAAA!!" --- The crowning ceremony was stopped before it began by the flash of white light that came from the audience. Kaimetsu no Hana had pushed Alice out of the stands into the arena with her charge, and Alice had two dolls out, spinning around with their swords. "Ohoho! The man of the hour! Kriss Mui!" "DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME DOLLMAKER!" "I have a name you know..." muttered Alice as Serin and Kriss looked in amazement. "It's Alice Margaritifer..." The dolls sliced Kaimetsu's kimono, and pushed her back as the continued to whirr. "Alright, now that that woman is busy..." Kriss was no longer where Alice thought he was. He was in fact thirty meters in the air, and bearing down on Alice. Serin was still too winded to try and move. "KYAA!" "GET OFF MY STAGE!" yelled Kriss as his attack met a shield doll. Alice found herself being sandwiched by two very fierce fighters. So she did the only thing that someone in her situation would do: escape. She summoned two bullet puppets, and had them spray shots at both Kriss and Kaimetsu. Alice then tore up through the stands, where the crowd parted to let this speeding little psychopathic girl out. And the rest was silence. --- [Several Hours Later] "Kaimetsu, I'm ready... you know, I need to call you something other than annihilation. It's not a very good name for a girl." "Eheh... anyway, the time portal is ready. In return for your services in the battle against Infiniti, the Belkan Time Enforcers will grant you clearance to get safe passage back to your own time." "Sounds good. Let's roll." The glowing circle stood in the ground as Kaimetsu and Kriss looked at the portal to the base. "I'll get a chance to rest up and heal right?" "Sure you do." "Let's roll!" |
