To the Portal of Uncertainty Spoiler: click to toggle Just something out of nowhere really... PROLOGUE: You are a veteran sergeant of the Imperial Collective( one of the greatest in all around Imperial- Oligarchies in the known Universe(capital U to show respect)) Your mission is to find a somewhat well guarded portal which has been causing much distress to all of the Universal Union(you get the idea…) by the means of terrorizing it. You have already marched your way through purgatory and found you have made it to your location…almost that is…not to get rid of it and go home…. To the Portal of Uncertainty! "Captain says its time to get in there and clear out the portal gate to make way for more troops. You and your squad should meet up with a couple scouts who have made their way in already. Hope be with you. Sneska out!" The message crackles as the transmission ends. The storm that encompasses your location isn’t helping much with the signal but you could care less knowing more support is on the way. You signal to your men to move up as you approach the closed entry way to the Portal Gate. The long catwalk you and your men are walking on is starting to seem a little unsafe as the storm encloses around the structurally unstable enemy base. Who would build such a thing is beyond your comprehension but none the less you keep to the mission with getting through the tall thick metallic door. You and your men know what to do and with the training you all have received, there is no real need for a squad leader. Your visor indicates that your heavy weapons unit is armed and ready to fire. ’Ahead of the game’ You smirk as the feeling of being unstoppable comes to mind as is the same mindset for almost all Imperial units before they realize they are knee deep in shit. The men do what they can to clear the path as they stand on a catwalk only so wide enough for one soldier. With a clear path, the big fucking gun that the heavy weapons expert is carrying charges up and aims for the center. You look back at him through your visor, complete with breathing apparatus and some shards of armor well crafted to make a well built helm in the shape of a skull only an inch thicker than your own. The numbers that are ciphering do actually have a meaning as they give you the benefit of the doubt during battle. In other times though, it’s usually good for a laugh at reading intoxication signatures. The massive weapon fires and sends a ball of energy at the door. The light from it is filtered in your visor which you watch in amazement at the power of it as it collides with the door. The ball of energy spreads across the face of it and melts a hole large enough for you to walk through. You signal to move up now and get out of the storm...even if it has the slightest chance of affecting the insides of the base. You lead onward with your ICM75 (a smart machinegun and rocket launcher for any alien who doesn’t know what it is). It looks like it will be a dark trip on getting to the Portal Gate which seems to be just ahead, but no matter, your infra red goggles will make do with it. The scanner shows no readings as you view through its many settings. You were hoping to find the scout team waiting for you on your way in...maybe they had more important matters to attend to...? "Alright, here we are..." You reply to the silent question that jumps from mind to mind within your squad. You get a small handheld remote hacker to open the door. Why they are locked is another thing added to your list of questions. With just a few digits added in and some bleeps and bingo! The door opens to reveal what you could have expected; the bodies of the scouts along with some remains from the enemy. "Looks like a grenade laid waist to all of them." One of your squad mates breaks the dead silence. "Search the room for anything useful." You order as you look down at one of the dead scouts who still seem to have their head on. You hold your own as the sight of gore is nothing new to you. Spinal columns and intestines and all the inners are just something else to color this place up and add intrigue. You decide to kneel down and take off the scout’s helmet for use of finding out what just happened here. Crosshairs in your visor collect around the mask and a feed begins to link your helmet with hers so that all information can be gathered. You hope you won’t have to delete any music from your Helmdrive but you are sure you can always find those smooth industrial sounding tracks again... A screen covers up your sight of the surroundings and replaces it with a cleaner view as it is apparent that this recording was created before the massacre. You stand idle and watch… "This is the location. We are to remain here for further orders from another group coming in. We have gathered intel as to what exactly is behind these gates. From the enemies we have captured and questioned, they have replied that due to the storm that has been going on for sometime now has messed with the teleportation systems. ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Readings have changed from what and where the original ID was going to and from. We retrieved what information we could from the computer but couldn’t get it sent back to base due to the storm. We’ll keep trying" "Kahn! Look!" "The portal is opening!" You wish to see more but all you can see is the person trying to shutdown the portal. Gunfire takes up most the sound in the background as nothing else is clear to hear. You try to increase the volume but still you get nothing else. "There!" It seems they managed to hold off whatever was coming through along with closing down the portal. "I’ve never seen or even heard of anything like that before, "Sarge!" One voice was heard. "What the fuck was that?!" Another shrieked. "This has been going on continuously it appears through a set number of intervals. I can’t decode all the symbols though but the next opening will occur in another ten minutes. We’ll just have to sit tight and close it down again when it opens..." Suddenly the sound of screaming makes its way into the video. The visor returns to normal viewing as the video is closed. To your amazement, the portal has opened! What you also take notice of is the carnage before you. These creatures look familiar but aren’t at all. You follow your squad mates in blowing these things into oblivion. You can’t even describe what they look like due to their changing appearances. Some with skeletal figures and others with….something… One by one your men are being killed. ’Watch out!’ ’Shit!’ responses to the dodging of hits run through your mind. You have to plan a response to this now or no hope will come of it. Running outside would be suicide but so would to stay here without any answers of how to shut this place down. Really you are stuck in a shitty situation. You can’t get to your squad mate for he is literally being ripped to shreds. You decide to take your chances with whatever is on the other side of the portal and leave behind a present for these beasties. You toss a grenade and increase the magnitude enough to kill them (or hope to) and keep the computers intact. The portal envelops you and all you make out is a bright light...until a second later you are thrown to the ground with your gun sliding away from you. The sound system in your helmet begins to emit sounds of crackling as your whole body suit system is brought back online. You look around to find several of those monsters from earlier staring down at you with some other weird things flying around. You wonder what place this could represent best in your imagination but nothing fits. You don’t seem to be too worried though as you are pretty confident in blowing these mothers away…too bad your gun is a short distance away. From seeing you wiggle a bit like a big worm, they find their next meal and so one pounces on top of you, screaming intensely at almost ear shattering volume. Not big enough to swallow you whole or rip you in half like the others, it still appears pretty fierce as you grab onto as many arms of it as you can to stop it from clawing at your heavily armored suit. You now suddenly realize what you are in and a rush of adrenaline runs through your body as you pull out your 21" blade and start cutting at its arms. It screams and releases you but you won’t give it the chance to escape. You feel for your side arm, grip it, and fire several rounds into its abdomen and one into what looks to be its head. It falls dead to the ground with the others snarling at you and begin charging. As they are a short distance away, you run for your rifle and immediately turn to face them and jump backwards off a ledge to a landing below. In the mid air, you fire relentlessly and drop some as they come at you like a down pouring wave. You release the trigger as you touch the ground and roll back a bit to let the dead pile up in front of you. The lively ones join up in the pile up as well. Some try to rise up but are crushed under the weight of others. You switch to your rocket launcher on the bottom part of the gun and fire one in their direction. You’ve hit the pile and sent a lot of them flying all over the place. With a moment of free time given, you look in all directions to find an exit strategy. You then come to the conclusion that you should probably venture around for a bit and take as many of them with you on your way out….you hope. Finding you only have a few rounds left in your machinegun, you fire at some more oncoming hordes and then reload as you make your way to another ledge. Hoping to get rid of them for now, you jump off just as they get close. Sadly what they didn’t realize is you are hanging off the edge as they all look back to fall into the abyss below. The targets being tracked by your visor disappear and now it looks there isn’t much activity on the scanner. You pull yourself back up onto the structure to look around some more. What you don’t realize is that a tentacle is making its way up behind you. Your scanner shows a dot on the screen and you immediately go for your knife and cut off the tip of it in a neat spin move. It wiggles and then retreats back into the abyss with your eyes trying to follow. You try to tap into the comms from your helmet to reach anyone else but all there is dead air. You are sure your tracker is still working though due to its connection still being stable. "There must be another way out of here…somewhere…" Your voice is muffled by the helm. A scream then pierces your mind as you kneel in discomfort. It’s another one of those things…but wait! You notice it’s injured and probably one of few that were hit and survived. You realize there is something down there and hopefully the fall doesn’t kill you…or something else will if you are unprepared. The walls of the place are too far away to slide down on and this thing isn’t trustworthy at all to slide down on. You then decide to use your anti-crippling system featured on your heavy duty boots. Sure that you will straight down, you hold your rifle and fire another into the monster as it would only be dead wait to use. You then step off the ledge and in less than fifteen minutes, you land. The weight is supported by the boots and is displaced on the ground below, causing the ground to shatter. Your scanner lights up and your visor fills the screen with targets. Your only chance now is to just run and find that walk way up to wherever that thing jumped from since they don’t appear to be able to crawl up walls. Turning in a 120 degree angle, you find your exit as you plow through several of the creatures and fire blindly upon the others behind you. ’No way should anyone find there way here and so this place should be sent to oblivion.’ You think to yourself as you make your way through the tunnel that leads deeper into darkness. The sounds of screaming echo throughout the tunnel and make a burden on your ears as the sound system doesn’t seem to be able to filter it. ’Don’t look back.’ You tell yourself but decide to look anyways. They are gaining on you! But no surprises to you that you still have four grenades left. You pull one off your belt and set it to your preference and throw it back to clear a group of them. Luckily the shockwave dealt a blow on the ones in the front and gave you more time to get to the portal. You have finally made your way up now to the top of the tunnel. You look to see a walkway heading over to the platform where the portal was. You only hope the time for the next opening is soon as you start to hear something else waking up. The screams have silenced and it doesn’t sound good at all. You question your next move as to either stand ground and see what it is or make for cover. You look back to the tunnel but it’s too late! Something is dropping down from somewhere as you hear the sounds of heavy stomping. Looking up to another platform, you can make out what it is. Some….big…..shit! You roll out of the way as it crumbles the ground of where you once were. You look up at it to see a fifteen foot monster looking right back at you. You switch to your rocket launcher and fire a round but to your surprise it doesn’t seem to deal enough damage to put it down. You fire another rocket and another as you back away. It begins to rush towards you and this time its doubtful if it can be tricked off the edge with how slow moving it is. Another rocket fired and you are out. You look in awe as to what this thing is made out of as all you see is just dark blue flesh. It approaches you and tries to swat at you but you manage to escape it and roll under it to run to the other side of the platform. You start to have a feeling in your gut as you start to wonder if you will make it out or not because three more are now making their way onto the platform as well. In the back of your mind, you know something will happen next…you just aren’t sure. The four now have you in the middle and all you now see is death…for those little ones that are making their way back up from tunnel! You won’t give up that easily. You switch back to your machine gun and open fire on the little minions screaming and charging their way at you. Getting around these big guys is one thing but the question remains…what is that sound? More stomping? It appears the entire hive has awoken and now more creatures have arrived to fight on. You know what time it is and so you quickly enter your play list and have your most favorable fast paced song playing inside your helm. You start to break out into a close combat style as you dodge the big ones and fight off the little ones. You could try and run but it is more than likely they will trap you if you try to go anywhere else…besides? Why not embrace death? You use everything you have and actually manage to bring down one of the big guys with a grenade in the mouth. You toss another at an oncoming crowd and have them fly over your head from the explosion. Your machine gun has only so many clips left so you do what you can and kill all those that appear most dangerous to you. That’s it! Your clip is dry and no time to reload right now as one has managed to get on your back. ’Tiny fucker…’ You think as you throw it off your back at an oncoming horde. Your pistol now will be your third to last resort. You plant as many critical shots as possible. Some don’t appear to even have heads and so you fire at the legs, dropping them from where they once stood. Clip dry! You throw your pistol at a charging monster which appears to be just a foot shorter than you. With the pistol doing nothing, you reactivate your anti-crippling system on your boots and do a roundhouse kick on it. The force of the boot crushes the creature’s head in and sends it rolling to the side. You pull out your knife and for better results you active the war blades that emerge from your bracers. You end up throwing the knife at some flying thing which was really pissing you off and so you continue with the others by slashing at them. More and more though gather around. Finally they get an edge on you and so one of the big ones manages to grab you after swatting at it’s own for several minutes. The big beast roars in your face and as it raises you up into the air you begin to the light. A tentacle emerges from the other side of it and wraps around your legs. There is nothing you hate more than tentacles and now it looks like they will be the end of you…until you realize that the light is actually the portal! You try to shake loose but no go. You feel it starting to pull you apart until you see a rock like figure crush its skull. You have no clue what it was until you drop on top of several bodies below you that it is an Imperial Juggernaut who has come to save the day. "Mind if I join in? IC Juggernaut; Mikhail. I was part of the reinforcements sent after your squad. The others are waiting." He said with an irregular accent of your own as he demolished the area with every impressive weapon he had, especially that massive war hammer. You also take note of his armor and how massive it is. He probably stands about almost ten feet tall in that….nice robe that he has on too… You reply happy to see him and after cutting up some more foes, you insist on leaving behind a tracker to rid this place. More gather around as you contemplate what to leave but end up taking out a handheld tracker used for such occasions and stick it inside the eye socket of one. You kick it down and immediately begin running for the portal but look back to see your gun still visible. You run back to grab it whilst Mikhail crushes another monster with his war hammer. You take a clip you had on you and fit it into the gun and lock and load as you spray a few more baddies with some Imperial built bullets. That’s what they get of course for messing with the Imperial Collective…even if the creatures don’t know any better. You both make it into the portal just in time before it closes. Good thing half your body wasn’t caught in it or else your ass would be somewhere else across the universe by now. You and Mikhail have stepped through the portal on the other side to see no one waiting for you. Mikhail seems worried at first but makes his way out onto a small platform on the edge of the base. With you behind, you think home sweet home, even with your entire squad dead and now rotting here in front of you. Looks like that grenade you tossed earlier fixed things though. You decide to follow Mikhail’s path out. You are curious as whether or not the storm is going on so you switch your comms on and come to hear nothing but orders being spread across the Imperial airwaves. "Get some!" "They’re borrowing into the side of the ship and eating away at it! What the?" "This is central command of the Orlarn Galaxy. This area is now the grounds for complete decimation. Prepare for a full fleet to arrive soon." "WAIT AAAAHHHHH!!!" "They’re fucking spreading everywhere! Like multiplying!" "Requesting pickup!" "Negative. It is too dangerous to take the drop ships out." "What the fuck is going on?!" You make your way to a corridor from which you look out to see where Mikhail and his troops are. You also notice that the reinforcements mostly consist of heavy weapons troops as they all appear to be holding massive auto-cannons and laser cannons and firing them into the sky at something you cannot yet see. You approach closer with head up and once that step is taken outside, you see nothing but full blown chaos as every army including yours is at war against each other. What’s worse is you come to realize what appears to be fighter crafts flying around are actually those things you met on the other side of the portal. How they got through, you know not but your first response to that is ’…they need to die.’ "I’ve called in the destruction of that place from where you left that beacon." Mikhail looks down to you as you nod in response. One less thing to worry about… "Here take this!" You look to your left to see another Juggernaut; this one is female which can be seen since her helmet is off like some of the others. These people just get bigger and bigger you think as you look her over in astonishment with how tall she is. You take a hold of the pulse cannon she gave you and load it. "The storm has only gotten worse…" You tell yourself as you prepare to increase your kill count for the day is not yet over. |
