My Grandmother
I miss you, no one knows how much,
everyone says to move on, I can't, I won't,
to move on like a child receiving a new toy on Christmas is not possible,
I want to remember you, I need to.
you were the one I could always talk to, run to,
you were the one that made the holidays worth having,
your smile was as bright as the Christmas star,
your warmth like a constant hug engulfing me,
you always smelt of banana bread and cherries.
you rocked me to sleep,
you taught me to read,
so for all that you did, I will pass onto my son
your great-grandson.
the one you will watch over from heaven,
the one you will laugh at when he pushes my buttons, like I did with you,
and smile down dear grandmother,
as I read him your stories, and sing to him our lullaby:

When you think of pink,
you see pink fluffy clouds,
a pink baby's butt just wanting to be powdered,
a calico kitten with a pink button nose,
a pink easter bunny holding a carrot,
happiness I wish it was that easy,
to think of these things and be happy,
I look out my window and see them, the raindrops,
the sound they make on the road is like my heart shattering,
into pieces on the cold, hard floor, like thousands of pins,
"Breast cancer" my mom had said,
suddenly that pink ribbon was like a noose around my neck,
pulling tighter by the minute,
dragging me down into the dark abyss of nothingness,
I try to scream, nothing
I try to cry, nothing
this nothingness has stopped me from feeling.

the one who held your hand when you were sick,
dried your tears when you cried,
watched you sleep, just to kiss you awake.

The one who made your favorite dinners,
