Cypher looked out over the podium and saw the massed populous of the colony along with the cameras arranged for the best views. "Today marks the beginning of a new age, for a decade Axxiom has sat on this land, content to manufacture our products in exchange for the resources we need to survive, but no longer." His voice echoed around the auditorium without amplification. "Today we set in motion a plan to expand our grip and to become more self-sufficient, today we begin construction of a new colony unit." Cypher activated a red hologram over the heads of the audience displaying the layout of the new facility, which was nearly an exact copy of the original. "This unit will function as the center of another colony designed to provide agricultural support for our growing need to produce our own crops, though few of us will be chosen to accompany the colony to its end position all of us will be with it." Cypher took one sweeping look at the assembly. "Axxiom shall remain strong!" He thrust his left fist in the air and saw the gestures imitated by those assembled along with a thunderous cheering.

Adrian Masard was not old, but his appearance could fool anyone. His face was creased by lines and wrinkeles, and he seemed to rarely smile. That was decieving, however. His bright green eyes retained a youthful spark, and his voice was careful yet firm, and seemed able to twist mens' own wills without them knowing. he rarely smiled outwardly, but inside, his emotions were almost as wild as a young boy's. He rarely acted all of his 38 years, but was mature when required. he was a very complex man, but with simple motives; Create an interstellar empire as expansive as Britain had in the 17- and 1800s.

He was currently walking through the Imperial House (he refused to call if his "palace".) He was frowning, but only because he had to visit with his Advisor of Foregin Affairs, Marcus Valter. He didn't dislike Marcus, but the man had no tact, no care for what others thoughts of him. He was a womanizer, alchoholic, chain-smoked, and was just plain unpleasant. Despite this, he was an incredibly shrewd and intelligent diplomat, and often used all of his irritabilities to his advantage.

Adrian entered his office, where Valter was already waiting. Valter was already seated comfortably, a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He raised the drink as Masard walked in. "Wonderful, simply wonderful Mr. Masard. I didn't know you had such exquisite beverages available." He said. His voice was deep and booming, even intimidating. He took another swig, immediately followed by a puff of the cigarette.

Adrain frowned and said. "Mr. Valter, why did you wish to speak to me? You know I have, or rather, had, other meetings before your presence interrupted them." he walked to his desk and sat down. He coughed as a puff of smoke hit him. He didn't mind smoke, and smoked cigars himself, but the ones Valter liked were simply awful. He reched into a drawer in his deska nd pulled out a cigar, and waited to Valter's answer.

It didn't take too long. "Mr. Masard, you are aware that we share this planet with Axxiom Industries, correct?"
"Yes, I am. What of it?"
"Well, it appears that they have begun to expand upon the surface."
"Again I say, what of it? Get to the point, Valter."
The diplomat smiled, showing yellowed teeth. "Yes,. yes, of course. The point, sire, is that we have comptetion, and we are bewhind. We have focused too long on the interior. We must look outward and expand out influnece, not just on Mercury, but throughout the inner system."
"Is any of this new? Valter, unless you have any important news, I must insist-"
"Mr. Masard, I have already applied for a meeting with the leader of Axxiom, a Mr. Cypher, to negotiate the possibility of trade, or, even better, an alliance."
"You did this without my authorization?" Masard said, surprised. He wasn't upset. in fact, he was going to issue the order the next day. Still, Valter bypassed his authority. "And you just now inform me?"
"Well, I assumed it was what you would want me to do." Valter said indignantly.
Masard sighed. "Yes it is. But, this will not happen again, understand? You will go to Axxiom, but all future diplomatic missions are to be authroized by me. I will also inform the cxounci8l of this, so it may not happen again. Understood?"
Valter flashed his yellow smile again and said, "Understood." He stood up. "I leave tomorrow for the meeting. I will return when we either reach an agreement, or a disagreement."
"Very good. You are excused, Mr. Valter." Masard watched as the man left the room, and coughed a bit from the lingering cigarette smoke. He would have to make sure his office was properly fumigated, and the chair Valter was in had to be either thoroughly cleaned or sent to the incinerator. The smell lingered, and was simply awful!

The room was rather plain, dark red walls sprawled with white geometric designs, a metallic floor, and an executive desk with embedded screens across from the entry. Cypher sat behind the desk, going over logs of the new facility's construction. So far the skeleton had been finished and the interior was quickly headed in the same direction at about 40% completion. The quiet and measured sound of Cypher's air filter was the onlydisturbance in the room, and then all was interrupted by a neural link message.

"Sir, Mr. Valter has arrived." The message shot through his mind and almost without thinking Cypher shot back.

"Very well, send him in with the escorts."

Cypher wondered how Valter would take being escorted by the terror bots, the silent sentinels that watched over most of this particular facility. Almost as soon as the thought flew through his mind the doors opened and Valter entered. As the doors closed again Cypher stood, his closed dark red coat lending him a clean and organized appearance. "Welcome to Axxiom Mr. Valter, please sit down and we can begin negotiations." He gestured at the space in front of his desk and part of the floor rose up and formed into a comfortably cushioned, straight backed chair with large arm rests not dissimilar to that which Cypher sat upon, which lacked cushions entirely.

Cedric leaned forward in his leather executives chair, and watched as General Bathurst, the head of the Corporations Alliances military, stepped in to his offices.

The General marched forward and took a seat after Cedric gestured to him to sit down. "The expansion of territory has begun Sir."
"Good, very good."
"Thank you Sir, should I brief the other CEO's?"
"Yes of course General."
The General nodded and stood up, he stood in front of Cedric stiff and upright, waiting to be dismissed.
"Your dismissed General."
"Very good Sir." Said the General, bowing to Cedric and quickly leaving the room,

Cedric leaned back in his chair and ran a loving hand over his desk. It was a relic of the time of Earth, and had been one of many things salvaged from Cedric's country manor house when the Corporations Alliance had deserted Earth.

Thank god that Marian had been well informed and had known about the approaching threat of the Anonymous.
They had managed to save most of the Corporations Alliance facilities and the equipment that had been saved included half a dozen space stations, two dozen satellites, several huge transport ships, a lot of old relics like the contents of Cedric's Manor and the crown Jewels of England, which Joshua had stolen from the Palace, for god knows what reason.

They had also managed to take the Trillion INC HQ's, which contained thousands of high tech computer hard-drives, hundreds of uploaded minds, and tens of thousands of Extranet web servers that now ran the entire communications system for the Corporations Alliance.

Marcus Valter took the seat that Cypher gestured to. "Thank you, Mr. Cypher. Before We get down to bussiness, do you mind if I smoke? or," He looked at the air filter, "would that be a problem?"

Cypher looked bemused, people often questioned the fortitude of his equipment. "No, in fact the filter is meant to remove contaminants and also functions as a respirator in a vacuum." He sat back down and pulled the chair up to his desk, folding his arms atop the surface and remaining stubbornly silent.

"Thank you." Valter quickly popped a cigarette into his mouth and lit it. He took a few puffs before speaking. "Mr. Cypher, Axxiom and the Mercurian Empire share this planet. It is therefore in the interest of the Empire and, I hope, Axxiom, that we maintain pleastant relations with eachother." He took a few more puffs. "So, I come proposing free trade between our factions." He leaned back into the chair. "What do you say?"

Cypher considered for a moment, possibilities speeding through his processor like brain before he came to a conclusion. "Mr. Valter, it is more than in our best interests, it is nearly a necessity. Trading would be most profitable, while conflict would most likely restrict both of our nations to operations on the planet surface." He leaned back in his chair, appreciating the fact that virtually nothing in the room held an odor for more than a few minutes. "Might we discuss the goods to be traded? I can obviously supply weapons and technology, perhaps you could offer more agricultural items?"

Valter thought for a second. His mind was slower than Cypher's, but almost as thourough. "Weapons and technology would be mutually shared, and we are willing to offer you any surplus agricultural items. We are also willing to offer manufactured items, or luxury items. We have surpluses there, as well, if you care for them."

Cypher would have been smiling if he could. "My people are, on the whole, not prone to wanting many luxury items, though I am sure that their availability will be appreciated as well as the agricultural supplies." He stood up and offered a hand to Marcus. "Do give my regards to Lord Masard as well, and please, allow me to send along two of the TABs as a gift."

Valter smiled congenially, but his eyes shifted nervously. "TABs? I'm guessing you mean those robots that escorted me here. Yes, i suppose I can take a couple to the Empire." He stood and shook Cypher's hand. "Thank you for you're time Mr. Cypher. I will arrange the trade routes when I return to New Toronto. I hope our two nations prosper together."

"Yes, I do. We call them Terrors in the field, but these versions are more docile." He returned the handshake firmly. "I believe that this will be a long and profitable relationship."

Thomas Ariad was eccentric, but very smart. He was also heir to the throne of the Mercurian Empire.

Lord Masard encouraged Ariad to participate in royal affairs, treating him like his own son, and teaching him what he would need to know once he took the throne. So, he attended every meeting with the Council, had his ownb political and local projects, including further research into nanotechnology, and even made speeches to the public. The latter he actually did more often than Masard, and thus he was the poster child for the Empire. Young, intelligent, calm, fit, and full of ideas, he Would, in Masard's own words, "Become one of the finest rulers I will never see."

He was currently in one of the Council meetings, which Lord Masard had arranged. The room was large and rem, pty, save for a large round table with a recessed area in the center.Masard stood and spoke. "Gentlmen, It has come to my attention something somewhat, but not terribly, disturbing. He pressed a button near him, and a hologram of Mercury sprang into being above the recession in the middle of the Table. The hologram was grey, but their were three spots of color on it, green yellow and blue. "The green on the mpa is us, The Mercurian Empire. The yellow is Axxiom, and the blue is the Corporations Alliance." He pressed another button, and two more spots appeard. One was ale blue and located near the alliance, the other a pale yellow, near Axxiom. "Those spots are where Axxiom and the Alliance have begun expansion. As you can see, both have a head start, Axxiom more so than the Alliance."

"And what does this mean?" Asked Dr. Chiram Bushia, the councilor of Research and Developement.
"What it means, is that if we do not act, then we will lose any upper hand we have gainst either of the two, and will be more vulnerable to attack." Masard responded. "We need to expand, gentlemen, and soon. We have the resources, adn the technology. We have spent long enough on maintaining our borders. We must expand if we wish to survive."
Ariad shifted in his seat. "What about expanding off-planet? Say, on Mars? Or the asteroid belt?" He said.
Dr. Bushia responded. "We have the resources to colonize Mars, but it is dangerous. Doing so would stretch our supply of HE-3 to the limits, as Mars has no natural deposits. No, expansion on Mercury is necessary before we go anywhere else."
"So, we are agreed?" Masard said. The other nodded. "Good. Construction will begin shortly. Also, Dr. Bushia, start designing a habitat for an off-planet colony. Mr. Ariad had a good point. We do need to think about further exapnsion."

Cypher watched from his mobile outpost as the large triangular prism touched down on its end, a crimson and silver monument to the workers that had built it. Slowly it rose up a few feet on large tank-like tracks and crept over and connected to the umbilical road that stretched from Thea HQ to the new site. As it sat back down the tracks revolved to face the center to aid in the slow process of sinking the monolith, which would take months.

Cypher was nearly overwhelmed, his creation, his plan had worked perfectly, the pieces had finally fallen into place and a second sprawl would rise up around this new facility, this living city that had been launched into its final resting place mere hours ago. On top of this success he was close to a breakthrough in his military technology as well, he needed only a few more pieces and the project would be complete and it would bring a new face to the way AI wars would be fought. All of this zipped through his head in milliseconds as plumes of dust began to use from the angles of the facility, and thoughts of what to do with the Alliance as well, they could prove to be meaningful allies or well armed combatants, this needed to be discussed.

Dorian Vargas slowly walked toward the podium before him, a crowd of thousands jeering and bellowing with admiration. The security he had assembled was merely to keep an image of safety and control. When he reached the podium ledge, he took in a deep breath, staring with his golden eyes at the crowd. Massive flags bearing the triangular emblem of the nation fell around the administrative tower, better known as the " Scholars Citadel " .

It took twenty more minutes before the banners were fixated on their positions. Dorian, now ready to speak, opened a small holographic panel before him, revealing the raw statistics of the gathering. Crowd attendance, mood, clothing and items. Once he finished checking on that, he then stood upright. The crowd continued to roar, ecstatic at his grand appearance, usually conducted no more than once a week. Surprisingly, they still maintained excitement over such a matter, but Dorian took pride in it.

People of Venus. Citizens of the Commonwealth. Today, I bring you great news! Not only is our great nation expanding, we are reaping! We are, indeed, planning on assembling a small expeditionary force to the planet of Neptune, to scour for her resources. As the great Nordic bards of yore sang of the tales of Beowulf and Tyr, so shall we sing of eternally of our cultured exploits.

Wether it be the majesty of Moctezuma's empire, or the cunning of Pizarro and Cortez's conquest, we shall make a name for ourselves! Our scientists and engineers spread knowledge to the people, and our soldiers protect them. It is not a simple order of government, it is a cycle! A truly functioning cycle of life that has endured for years! Our beatiful hive city, true in its identical but elegant spires, will be the capital of a new golden age! The government emphacizes science, unity, and pride!

We are the Technocratic Commonwealth of Venus! We are the inheritors of the future! Volk, Vaterland, Verein! Volk, Vaterland, Verein! Gloria! Gloria! Nuestra republic hermosa! Gloria!

The crowd began to chant relentlessly, opening a choir full of zealous nationalism. Venus had announced it's expansion, as did the other powers in the Sol System. What would become of Neptune was up to them, but Venus, just as it was in the days of Rome, was a god among mortals.

Marian was standing at the huge floor to ceiling window, in her office, that looked out over the newly completed city of New Atlantis. The last section of the huge glass dome was just being lowered in to place, and the long metal tunnel that would connect the two cities was being slowly dragged towards the huge doors of New Atlantis. The two helicopters that pulled the huge flexible metal tunnel forward whined and kicked up a cloud of dust, but they continued forward diligently. Once the helicopters had brought the tunnel within three metres of the dome they dropped it on to a waiting vehicle, which was really just a huge platform sitting on a set of wheels, with a powerful engine. The vehicle moved forward until the tunnel was within a few inches of the dome doors, and then hundreds of tiny probes flew from the edges of the tunnel and connected with the dome doors. The tiny probes pulled the tunnel forward those last inches and then the tunnel click in place with a resounding 'bang'. The huge tunnel, big enough to drive a vehicle through, would now serve as a covered highway between the two cities.

Marian turned back to her desk and sat down in the huge leather chair, she was hoping on some peace and quiet to work on paper work, but the quiet was disturbed when Alice, the AI that ran all Corporations Alliance security systems came to life.

"WARNING: An invasion fleet has been detected leaving Martian Soil!" came the shrill warning from Alice.
Marian Daisies lurched forward and tapped a key on the computer. Instantly a holographic read-out of all information Alice had gathered on the Invasion fleet appeared. A verbal read-out accompanied it.
"Invasion fleets destination unidentified, Invasion fleet belongs to the New Roman Empire of Mars." Alice said, "Sending information to other CEO's instantly." A second later Cedric and Joshua both had the information.
"Bring up the possible trajectories Alice."
"Yes Mil'lady." Another holographic read-out popped up, showing all possible trajectories for the invasion fleet.
"Should we move to CODE: Red Mil'lady?" Alice asked.
"No, but follow all movements of the fleet with our satellite system, and activate defence systems on all Corporations Alliance Satellites," Marian said.
"Defence devices activated, warning ALPHA, BETA and DELTA space stations." Alice said, A few seconds later her voice spoke again; "ALPHA, BETA and DELTA space stations armed and ready for defence."
"Good." Marian said, she shut down the communication link with Alice and turned off the two holographic read-outs.

"And you're sure this isn't some kind of false reading?" Cypher asked the heaad of the scanner network.

"Quite sure, the signatures of several known military ship designs have been confirmed as part of this... armada." Sgt. Utham replied, voice roles with conviction. "One of the possible logical trajectories would land them on Mercury, it is my personal belief that they wish to obtain helium-3 reserves."

Cypher looked again at the data. "That does seem likely, have communications hail them when they get within real-time distance, I want a word with their commander." Cypher handed the data-slate back to the sergeant and the man left the office. A few minutes later a notification appeared on one of the desk screens, it was a page fro the sergeant. Cypher tapped the notification, expanding it into a live video feed.

"Sir, the Alliance has activated their defense networks, should we do the same?"

Cypher considered for a second. "Yes, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the Martians are indeed headed this way, awaken the sentries." He wondered how his new trading partners would react to the threat of invasion, obviously the Alliance had detected the threat, but what would happen?

In orbit the series of five geosynchronous satellites that comprised Axxiom's defense network began coming online, weapons sprouting from their mountings and what had been nearly perfect spheres turned into spiny masses of defensive weaponry.

Around the Imperial house, a massive crowd was gathering, bathing in the off white glow of the colony's artificial lighting. They all watched the entrance to the House, where all of the councilmen and women sat in chairs behind a podium. Suddenly, the crowd burst into cheers, for Lord Adrian Masard walked out, dressed in a light grey suit and white undershirt, vest and tie, and stood behind the podium. He raised his hands, palms out, and smiled to the crowd. He waited for them to calm down, which took almost five minutes. Finally, he opened his mouth to speak.

The silence was shattered by a single loud crack. Masard didn't get a word out, for in the middle of his shirt, a large red flower was blooming. Masard looked startled, and stared at the flower on his chest. Then he tottered, and started to fall back. He was caught by Varius Viricek, the leader of the Monarch's personal guard, who shouted for the guards to find the shooter. People by now were running in fear, many of the screaming. More shots rang out, these of the guards laser weapons.

Thomas Ariad was right by Masard's side, waiting for the ambulance to come. Masard was cognitive, even lucid, but looked and sounded exhausted.

“Lord Masard!” Ariad said. “Hold on! The doctors are almost here.”
“Don’t worry my boy, I’ll be fine,” Masard answered, his voice wavering. “but I won’t live. I can tell. Just promise me that you will make the Empire great and prosperus, and maintain peace.”
Adriad choked back a sob, and said, “I will, but you won’t die! You can’t!”

"Yes I am, Thomas. I am going to die. And you will be crowned, the second ruler of the Empire." He looked straight up, towards the artificial light above. He slowly closed his eyes, and let out a long sigh. With that, Lord Adrian Masard, first ruler of the Mercurian Empire died. His killer was never found, much to the anger of the Royal Guard, and all that is known is that he was killed by an outdated chemical and projectile weapon on the steps of the Imperial House at the age of 38.
--------------------------
Thomas Ariad, age 28, second Monarch of the Mercurian Empire, stood before the Council, in the place of the late Adrian Masard.

“Gentlemen,” He started, “I have inherited the throne in a time of danger. Our sensors have received reports that the New Roman Empire of Mars has sent a war fleet to attack us. These reports are verified by similar sightings by Axxiom and the Alliance. We do not have a large military, surely not large enough to defeat the New Romans on our own. Thus, I believe we should create an alliance with Axxiom and the Alliance to face this threat. We have already begun to reverse-engineer the robots, TBA’s, that Mr. Cypher gave us, and will hopefully be able to produce a cheaper version of them soon to combat the New Romans. Also, I believe we should begin emergency training and arming military machines and personnel. If any of you object to this, speak now.”

He was met with stoic silence.

“Good. Gentlemen, may we prevail in this time of grief, and may it’s hardships make us all the stronger.”

The small but powerful navy of Venus stood gallant amidst the presence of space. Vast and endless, but free for the taking. Dorian, who had just moments ago conducted a rally speech, was now overseeing the launch of a small expeditionary force into Neptune. As he watched the Sun's rays gleam off the golden surface of the nearest Prominence-class cruiser, he pondered over the future of the isolated colony. The Hive city was good enough, but he wanted more identical cities to appear. Uniformity was something hard to maintain when your culture itself embraced the random trends of innovation and ideal. The architectural style of the nation itself was heavily based off of radical designs from the early 21st Century.

[ Overseer Dorian, you have an incoming network transmission from Nova Atlantis. Shall I accelerate the process by deactivating network security firewalls? ]

[ Keep it on the same path. I want it filtered. Is it internal comm's, or is it extra-planetary? ]

[ Internal. From the Administrative Citadel. It seems the Council wants you to inform them of any foreign threats before embarking. They're quite worried. They've got the same itch I do, though. ]

[ Care to inform me of the issue? All we're doing is establishing our claim and presence. Once we breach orbit, we can begin resource scanning. Hopefully, with what the military insures, we'll find nice reserves of Helium-3 in and around the planet. I wouldn't worry about the other nations, if that's what you're getting at. None of them have staked their flag in Neptune, and I'm glad to keep it that way. If we encounter any threats, we just send in the fleet and keep firm ground. I'm not going to watch this nation fall into squallor. ]

[ I'll inform the Council to await, then. If any foreigners do intervene, I suggest we join in with a near identical culture. If pre-disaster records prove right, Mars was founded by the European Union. If we just confirm our cultural links, then we've got one hell of an ally. Especially if they can provide manpower. Also, note that the fleet is preparing to leave. There goes one cruiser now. ]

Dorian turned around to the massive window before him, staring in awe at the departing cruiser. Much of it was filled with A.I Drones designed with passive programming and protocols. Mining data collection and extraction would be their first objective. Then would come the long process of actually refining Helium and inspecting the atomic mass and composition for any abnormalities.

" I hate Sunday. " Dorian remarked.

[ Make that two. ]

Within the bridge of the New Roman Flagship, the Tiberius. Imperator Dracus sat waiting on his command chair, leaning formward from his chair, and staring out into space as he spotted the small planet from the distance, with a grinning expression beginning to form. "Ah! we've finally arrived." he said, jolting upward as he startled the bridge staff. he returned back to his seat as he turned his head slightly to the right armrest, on it were buttons, painted with roman numerals. he tapped on several keys. in the instant a radio-like device lowered down in front of him, grabbing a hold of it and began speaking.

"This is Imperator Dracus to all ships. we have arrived to our targeted destination. all battle groups have their assigned objectives, all pilots and ground troops are to make preparation for engagement once we enter Mercurian high orbit. this is it, our time of Triumph and battle is upon us, let us not fail Mars, let us not fail the Empire, let us not fail Lord Carsar. Cypher had known that reverse engineering attempts would be made on nearly all of his products when he designed them, so he had built a fail safe into the most core coding of his creations that would disable the programs that ran them if unauthorized access to any system was detected. Sure the machine would work, but its intelligence would never be quite as good as when it had rolled off of the Axxiom assembly line. Even if they had tried to pirate his products the Mercurian Empire would provide more help in defending the planet if they were allied.

Suddenly a notification shot over the neural link. "Sir, Martian forces have entered Mercurian space and the last civilian bunkers have been sunk to safe depth below the surface."

Cypher punched in a sequence on his desk and his chair began to rise up as a hidden hatch in the ceiling of his office opened. A minute later Cypher rose through the floor of the high-rise command center, seeing long range turrets erupt from similar looking buildings all around the sprawling city. "Hail them, we have time to work this out."

Unseen around the city warehouses full of Axxiom military units were alive with activity as the darkness, bots, and machines awoke, forming into battle formations and performing full system diagnostics. Minutes later full Titan transports and their escorts filled the sky, ready to deploy at the first engagement site.

"Sir, my spies tell me that Lord Masgard as been assassinated." General Bathurst said, stepping in to Cedric's office.
"At the New Roman Empire Of Mars orders I bet." Cedric muttered,
"The Assassin was not found, and the Mercurian Empire is requesting a military alliance with us." General Bathurst said, bowing to CEO Cedric as he spoke.

Cedric tapped a few buttons on his computer, and a few minutes later Joshua and Marian entered the room. "The Mercurian Empire is requesting an Alliance with us, do we accept?" Cedric asked.

"Accepted, we dare not let either Axxiom or the Empire fall, it would leave a space for the New Roman Empire Of Mars to colonize, and If they got that foot hold it would cause a bloody war that we can not afford." Marian said.
"Agreed, aliance offer accepted, send them a Enormo War Ship as a present on our part." Joshua said.
"Good, thank you General and CEO's."'
Joshua and Marian left as quickly as they had come.

"My lord, the invasion fleet has reached this planet, they will begin attacking at any minute." General Bathurst said.
"Yes, I know General, ready the Zeus." Cedric said, referring to the Corporations Alliance flagship.
The General bowed once again and quickly marched from the room.

Alice watched as the huge metal box that contained her HQ slowly lowered in to place in the center of New Atlantis. The huge box landed with a bang, and hundreds of tiny metal probes came out of the ground, and started connecting to the box. The probes started pulling the sides of the metal box apart, in to foot long chunks that were handed to Androids, who carried them off to be melted down.

After the box was completely removed a huge stone building was revealed. This building, brought all the way from Earth, was the original Corporations Alliance HQ, and now it was Alice's HQ.
The huge building was 100 metres long, 10 stories high, and was built from a honey coloured stone, presumably sand stone, but the records had been lost and sand stone was a stone that hadn't been used in centuries, so no rock experts knew what it looked like exactly.
The building only had one set of doors, a huge set of oak double doors, that were framed by a set of marble pillars. The walls were imbedded with two dozen floor to ceiling stain glass windows.

The entire thing was a relic of the past, and for some strange reason Alice adored buildings of the past.

Joshua Kensington entered the command center for the Corporations Alliance, and quickly sat down in a huge leather chair that was positioned in front of a wall of controls. Joshua tapped in a combination and a huge holographic screen appeared in the center of the door, showing the city outside.

One Enormo War ship was quickly flying away from New Asgard, towards New Toronto, while the other four were being slowly rising in to the air. The Zeus, the Alliances flag ship, was the last one to leave the ground, because CEO Cedric and General Bathurst had needed to be present.
Twenty or so Blue Zeppelins were being prepared, unseen, in the huge hangers that dominated the Space ports landscape.
Explorer Security Androids marched through every corridor and room in the city, and unseen to the eye of the hovering invasion force, the infantry power of the Alliance was rallying.

Dr. Chiram Bushia Stood quietly and stiffly in front of the desk of General Orion Bark, commander of the Royal Army. Bark was reading a report that Bushia had given him on the Axxiom Terror Assault Bots. Bark finished reading the reports, then looked up at Bushia.

"What does all this mean, Doctor?" He asked.
"Well, sir," Said Bushia, "Our first tests with the robots, or TABs, went well. They performed as well as any of our human soldiers, in many cases better. After a few tests, we decided to see what makes them work. We wanted to make our own. So, we began to reverse-engineer them." Bushia stopped to think.
"No need to stop, I can keep up." Bark said.
"Well, sir, we were able to work out how they work, but after the analysis, some of the robots' programs were, well, gone." Bushia bit his lip slightly.
"Whaty do you mean, 'gone'?"
"That's just it. After going back through the reports of the analysis, we saw that we were able to detect the programs, but weren't able to fully record them for future use. It appears they had a failsafe built in to prevent any vital information getting into the wrong hands."
"So, do thay work or not?"
"Oh, they definitely work, just not nearly as well. They have to be directly commanded, and they can't carry out advanced maneuvers. Most of their intelligence and decision-making has been wiped clean from their systems. Without that, they're almost worthless, as we can produce the same effect. It was the intelligence we were after."
"So, they're worthless?" Bark said, somewhat angrily.
Bushia bit his lip harder. "Um, yes sir, i'm afraid they are, for the most part."
Bark sighed. "Oh well. Thank you for your report, Doctor. You're dismissed."

Bushia shook the General's hand and walked out of the room.
------------------------
No sooner had Bushia gotten back to his lab did he get a call. He took it, and he saw the face of an AI appear on his terminal.

"Yes? What is it?" Bushia asked.
"Doctor, our long range sensors have picked up an unknown message." The AI said.
"What was the message? Was it from the New Roman fleet?"
"No. It came from Earth."
"What?' Bushia sat bolt upright in his chair, his eyes wide. "That can't be! Earth has been disconnected from the rest of humanity for almost a decade!"
"The message very weak, and we were lucky to pick it up at all. Some parts are garbled, but the majority of the message is intact. Would you like me to play it for you?"
"Yes, please."

The AI's face dissparead, replaced by a recording interface. Bushia listened intently.

-"My... -me is Alex Vargen. I used to be a soldier for the United States Marine Corps, up until what happened in 2133. If you're watching this, I'm not longer among the living. If you find this messag-.... -end it off-world. The people in space.... help us. I don't think our world can survive any lon..."-

"That is the end of the recording." The AI said. "Would you like me to play it back?"
"No, don't play it back. Send it to Lord Ariad and General Bark. They need to hear this. Send it through the most secure channels possible."
"Yes, Doctor." The AI said, and the call ended. CHiram Bushia leaned back in his chair, his mind racing. The message had made it all the way out here! Did that mean that other nations had found it? And if so, did they get it before the Empire? He spent the rest of the day dissecting the message, working out all the scenarios.
----------------------
Thomas Ariad sat in front of a recorder, waiting for the green light. As soon as it appeared, he started to speak.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of Axxiom Industries and the Corporations Alliance. I thank you for your gifts, and for accepting an alliance fo face the threat posed to us by the New Roman Empire of Mars. It was the wish of my predecessor, Lord Adrian Masard, that peace and order be held highest among us. It saddens me greatly that he could not live to see us, three differenat nations, coming together to face a comon enemy. And it may very well be that our alliance may crumble when the New Romans are defeated, but I hope that is not the case." He paused. "Gentlmen, I propose the construction of a Combined Mercurian organisation, created co-opeeratively and maintained so. I porpose this to do as much as I can to ensure that our alliance stays strong. however, I require your co-operation to suceed. So, gentlemen, I send you thgis message in the hopes that you agree. “Those who hate most fervently must have once loved deeply; those who want to deny the world must have once embraced what they now set on fire.”

--Kurt Tucholsky

The gargantuan, lengthy hangar, more an indoor airfield, laid dormant, quiet, a space seemingly removed from time and all of its bustling activity. Squadrons of aircraft, too, laid dormant, slumbering and awaiting masters to let slip their chains and release them into the cold lunar sky.

Command is giving us the go ahead. Activate the fleet

The silence was shattered by an uproarious, simultaneous ignition of all craft. Small fighters, and orbital drop ships alike were bid to wake by remote commands, issued by technical officers observing from afar in the walls of the hangar.

Ignition sequence green. Drop the bay blast shield

A massive wall, of which all craft faced, began to slowly lower, lumbering and straining under its enormous weight. Regolith, dust and stone, began pouring into the front end of the hangar's runway, offering little possible obstruction to take take off. As the wall at long last receded into mechanical depths unknown, and the lunar dust settled in the distance, there was sunlight. The officers had to wait a moment and appreciate the sight. They had been submerged for so long that the rays of their distant sun had become a distant memory. No officer could restrain the urge to crack a contented smile.

Bay blast shield green. Start the sequential launch. Front north side squadrons first, then move along counterclockwise until we've got them all out and up. Have them geo sync once they hit low orbit, then let them have their fun. said Colonel Hernandez, patting an officer on the back. They haven't stretched their legs in nine years

Within an instant, columns of craft lurched forward, proceeding down the long runway towards the bright opening. Like a murder of crows, bats out of hell, the craft sped out of the hangar at phenomenal speeds. Some craft sped ahead of others, those were the ones piloted by uploads, all but dying to once again soar what was once the final frontier. Upon entering low orbit, a massive demonstration of aerial acrobatics ensued. They were free.

Deep within the confines of Novy Sibirsk, outlandish celebrations were taking place. Promotional posters entitled "Emergence Day", brandished with patriotic colors and symbolism, draped every wall, every street, every AR visor and implant. People danced and cheered in the streets, reflecting enormous amounts of confidence in the Concordiat regime.

Emergence was not only a technical risk, but an emotional one. Wounds from the old war still burned with hate. Their loss had hurt them, and their retreat underground had shamed them. But now, with a renewed faith and vitality, the people of the former Lunar colonies embraced each other in song and camaraderie, for now was the moment in which all glory hinged.

_________

Well that was inspirational. Let's get to prepping the frigates and satellites for launch now, we're not even close to finished here. We'll celebrate when the system shits their collective pants. said Hernandez, to which followed a resounding 'aye-aye!'.

_________

The Concordiat figureheads looked outwards from the top floor of their administrative headquarters, reveling in their success thus far.

Commissar Korolyov took a puff of his celebratory cigar. "My people have been thirsting for this moment. Their pleasure at your doing surges my veins, Director. You've outdone yourself."

"Come now, we all helped make this," chimed in Commissar de Guerro," we all had a stake in its creation."

With a deep, powerful voice, Director Rajaputra responded "Fernando is correct, Yuri. I wouldn't be here without the support of either of your colonies." His voice sounded content. "We also owe our people a great amount of gratitude, without whom these great works might never have been possible."

Korolyov and de Guerro both raised their glasses of brandy in agreement.

"Hear, hear." remarked Korolyov.

The director's face sharply went cold and stern. "And most of all, may we never forgot those without whom, I can safely say, we would never have been here."

De Guerro raised his glass once more in toast, to which the others responded with their own glasses.

In a spiteful tone, with an undeniably furious quiver in his voice, De Guerro mustered "To our enemies. May they be buried under mountains of their own dead."

A clink resounded in the large meeting room, followed by deep swallows. Rajaputra looked down with a mournful eye at the golden band wrapped tightly around his left ring finger and whispered quietly to himself, "Hear, hear..."

Marian Daisies watched as hundreds of flaming fireballs flew upwards, towards the invasion fleet. "Get this craft back to HQ, now!" Marian ordered, knowing return fire would soon rain down on the New Asgard and New Atlantis.
The Dark Arrow VIP Transport engaged all engines and flew straight towards the HQ tower of the Alliance. The tower housed all executive staffs offices, beside Alice's HQ, plus the underground section contained huge memory banks, that housed all top secret Alliance information.

"WARNING! WARNING!" Shrieked the alarms, as red lights started flashing all over the Transport, "we are losing control!" yelled the AI controlling the ship, his fingers rapidly trying to silence the warnings that were popping up on his screen. "life support systems failing! Engines damaged! Structural integrity at 50% and falling System failure in progress! Warning, intruder alert! Intruder alert!" The computer said, barking out a rapid line of warnings.

"What’s happening?" Marian yelled.
"There is a foreign life form on board the ship, Mil'lady, it is somehow causing the failure of almost half the ships systems, and it is damaging the structure of the ship." Eric, the AI and Marian's personal pilot said.
"It must be in the engine room; that is the only room besides the bridge that can be used to shut off systems or upload a virus in to the computer." Marian said, grabbing hold of the back of a chair as the ship banked sharply.
"I know Mil’lady; I'm sending a security bot to the engine room now." The Explorer Android - Security Version quickly vanished from the room.
Eric was studying the screen that showed everything the security bot saw. Suddenly a huge form blocked the camera, and after a brief battle the security bot lost and the camera turned to static.

"Its a Malicious Infantry Unit, Mil'lady." Eric said, studying the recording of the video.
"Why in the world is one of those on..." Marian tried to say, but the ship banked again, throwing her against a wall.

"WARNING! Collision Alert! Collision Alert!" The alarms screeched.
Marian glanced up in time to see the approaching side of the HQ tower, before Eric grabbed her and pushed her behind a fashionable velvet couch, he rolled in behind her, and the next thing Marian knew the bridge windows exploded in, the alarms stopped as the computer was killed, and smoke filled the room. Marian blacked out after that.

He slammed his fist onto his desk, thewn sat heavily and rested his chin on his hands. General Bark stood before him, hands behind his back, standing at perfect attention. He spoke calmly but with authority.
"Lord Ariad, we can't change what they've done. All we can do now is react. Our army is waiting for orders at Iverson."
"Yes, yes. I know." Ariad said, still slightly exasperated. "Begin mobilization immediately. If nothing else, we can be prepared for the invcasion. Also, order all defense stations to fire upon the fleet.
"And the fleet, Sire? Shall I order them to attack the invaders?"
"No. They're too poorly armed and are outnumberted. Tell them to wait in reserve on the opposite side of Mercury from the New Romans. We'll call on them if, or rather when, they're needed.
"Yes sir. Anything else?"
Airad thought for a second, then siad. 'Have you received the message from Dr. Bushia?"
"Yes, sir. It appears Earth is still alive, barely."
"Yes. When this is all over, we might want to look into it. For now, I just want to be sure you're aware of it. That's all, General. You're dismissed."

Location: Iverson Military Base, New Sydney

All about the base was movement. tanks and war machines came to life, soldiers rushed to get their gear,or to get into formation and load onto transports. They would get as ready as possible to get to the front line as quickly as possible, wherever it was. One group that was assembling apart from the others were the Special Operations and Reconnaissance force, or SOAR for short, were preparing to do two things: To prepare for a possible behind-enemy-lines strike, and to train civilians in New Toronto and New Sydney as militia, for a worst case scenario.

SOAR forces did not use ranks, and in fact seemd disorganized. Unlike regular soldiers, however, they had complete and total trust in one another, knowing that if one man made a mistake, which they knew was likely in large scale operations, the others would improvise and set the operation back on track. They were elite and superior to regular soldiers, and they knew it.

The leader of one of the SOAR sqauds, Darrik Hargill, spoke to his men.
"Alright, listen up." He started. "The regulars are getting ready for full scale war. That's all fine and dandy, but this time, we're not going in with them. Instead, we have orders to organize a behind the lines attack." He paused. "No specifics yet, unfortunatlely. However, if that can't be done, or if it fails, we have to prepare for the unthinkable. Starting ASAP, we are sending operatives to train citizens in New Toronto and New Sydney as militia, in case the invaders make it to that far." He smiled. "Of course, they won't, but you can never be too prepared." He placed his helmet on his head. "You'll all get asignments from HQ. I can't promise anything, but good luck, stay safe, and remember; Last one home buys the drinks." They all laughed asnd began to walk to their respective transports.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth... put out my hand and touched the face of God."

--John Gillespie Magee, Jr

Ten, nine, eight

Two of the three massive frigates sitting upright in their respective launch silos simultaneously engaged their ignition, blasting white hot plasma against their base platforms.

Seven, six, five

The frigates began to convulse wildly under the enormous amounts of force pushing up against their frames.

Four, three, two, one

The quivering spacecrafts suddenly began to be propelled upwards, slowly at first, but at exponentially increasing speeds.

We have liftoff of the RFV Agra and Ryzan. Good work people. It's up to the orbit techs now.

The control room erupted into applause as they looked onward at the brilliant lights of the launched frigates, safely nestled inside their surface observation dome.

An officer quickly ascended the stairway into the control room. "Attention!"

All personnel quickly stood up out of their seats, snapping to attention as Commissar Guerro slowly stepped up into the room. "At ease, men. Congratulations! Our military is now at full attention. The Concordiat, and all its peoples thank you."

The control room personnel continued to quietly congratulate themselves and discussing their accomplishment.

"Colonel Hernandez," continued Commissar Guerro while beginning to walk back down the stairs,"I would like a word. Let's walk and talk."

"Yes sir," replied the colonel, setting his data pad on a nearby table and bounding after the general.

"The Director is happy with you, really. We were all hesitant towards the prospect of letting you head this project, especially after last year's incident, but you've certainly exceeded our expectations."

"Thank you for the opportunity for a second chance."

"Oh we're not done yet. There's a new project. Project Prometheus. With your powerful history in theoretical physics, we were hoping you would head it."

"Oh, thank you sir. It's an honor. What's this project going to entail?"

The general remained silent, still walking. It wasn't for another 30 yards or so, once they reached an elevator, until the general began to speak again. The doors closed and a pleasant ping ran through the air.

"It's a research project into dark reactors again."

Colonel Hernandez was taken aback for a moment. "Sir... I can't. We're not ready, we don't--"

"Colonel that's not for you to worry about. We've open Novy Sibirsk! Trading has already began with a number of mining and manufacturing communities along the asteroid belt. We'll be able to get you everything you lacked the last time around."

Hernandez paused for a moment. "Commissar are you sure I'm the right man for this?"

"No one else has a background like yours. Dr. Antlent once confided in me before the incident, concerning your abilities. Called you the Einstein of our generation. Those words ring true."

Hernandez nodded. "Why the sudden pique in interest again?"

"We've been doing some peaking around. It turns out that the dogs at the QLSS aren't exactly our biggest threat anymore. There's some pesky pricks over around Mercury. Getting into our affairs."

"But we just reemerged, how could--"

"Colonel the specifics of our rationale do not concern you. This is for the betterment and the protection of your people. Understand?"

"Yes sir."

"Good man." The elevators opened to the luxurious Tyson Heights, location of the Concordiat's administrative center, where celebration where still dragging on. "Let's get you squared away."

Colonel Hernandez followed after the general, hanging onto his every word, especially those concerning the QLSS. Saying that the QLSS wasn't their main threat anymore hurt him. For near on a decade now the only things that got him out of bed were the prospects of revenge, and the bloody activities involved therein. To even suggest that Hernandez would not be granted that kindness was heartbreaking. His family was gone, and he thirsted for revenge, but he decided to trust his government that bigger problems were about. Suddenly his heavy heart was replaced with a booming pride. His people needed him, and Hernandez would deliver.

You don't understand. The signal was impossibly weak. Must have been from makeshift equipment. I can only tell that someone, somewhere on Mercury picked it up and recognized it as something other than a bunch of radio interference. They wouldn't have touched it otherwise.

Jackson... You're not working hard enough. I don't think you know what's at stake here.

A harsh sound sprung forth from the emptiness, like a butcher packing meat into a cold locker, a powerful fist to a poor soul's face.

AHHH! Nggg... I swear to god I'm trying, I know what this means, just please... Please...

"Get General Bathurst online now!" Cedric yelled. Behind him almost ever executive member of the Corporations Alliance was gathered.
Alice; the head of Security and technology development, Dr. Melissa Norton; the head of science and cybernetics, The Grand Duke of Luxembourg; Cedric's father and most likely the last true noble in the galaxy, Lord Diplomat Ashley Goldheart, CEO Joshua Kensington and Dr Mildred Huntingstein; the head of communications.
General Bathurst appeared in a holographic live feed from the Zeus. "Where is Marian?" Cedric demanded, as the transmission from QLSS came through. Suddenly the entire HQ tower shuddered and alarms started sounding.

"Sir's and Mil'ladies a Dark Arrow VIP Transport has collided with the side of the tower, there is substantial damage to the HQ towers supports, and we consider it risky to stay in the tower, please begin leaving the tower in a orderly fashion." Announced an AI over the loudspeaker,
The same AI entered the room and started briefing them on the more top secret details. "The Dark Arrow VIP Transport that collided with the tower was sabotaged and is the same Transport containing CEO Marian Daisies, Her grace is unharmed psychically, thanks to the actions of her pilot, but she may be suffering shock. She is currently being transported to the medical center, and she is unconscious."

"Who sabotaged the ship?" Cedric demanded, shutting down the live feed to General Bathurst and sending a transmission to the QLSS.
The transmission read: "CEO Marian Daisies has been involved in a crash, her transport ship collided with the side of our HQ tower, ship was sabotaged; Marian is unconscious and under medical attention, HQ tower damaged and is being evacuated, please delay conference."
"An AI Malicious Infantry unit sir, the AI was killed in the crash, but we have begun scanning the AI's memories,” said the underling, bowing as the executive members of the Alliances staff started leaving the room.

First the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, who was being helped out by Dr Norton, then Alice followed behind; next was Ashley Goldheart, then Joshua Kensington, then Dr Huntingstein, and last Cedric Sparrow.
Cedric glanced back to the underling and issued one order, once Joshua Kensington was out of sight, "have security detain CEO Joshua on the charges of attempted murder of CEO Marian Daisies, and beginning a war with out permission of the other CEO's."

----Later----

"Sir, we scanned the AI Malicious Infantry units memories, and you were right, it was Joshua Kensington who gave him his orders." An AI said, bowing to Cedric.
"Have Joshua Kensington executed, and then make a scan of his memories, and find who ordered him to do it. I have gained Marian's permission to order these actions." Cedric said.
"Yess....Yes, sir." Mumbled the AI, shocked at such actions.
"He tried to destroy the Alliance, and he tried to murder a fellow Alliance member, never mind a fellow CEO." Cedric said, "what would you suggest?"
"Well... I don't know, Sir, most likely that, Sir. If I was in your position, Sir."
"Good, well go carry out my orders." Cedric said. He leaned back in his chair as the AI vanished, and rested his head on his hands.

"What am I to do?" He asked no one in particular, "when the Anonymous can get even the most trusted on there side? for it can be no one else." Cedric muttered, he tapped in a code on his computer and started writing another message, this one to Axxiom, The Mercurian Empire, The QLSS and The New Roman Empire of Mars.

"Dear Fellow occupants of the galaxy, this is CEO Cedric Sparrow of the Corporations Alliance.
I would like to inform you of what has happened today, here at New Asgard. CEO Marian Daisies has been involved in a crash, but luckily she was unharmed. The Dark Arrow VIP Transport she was in was sabotaged by an AI, and the transport collided with the side of the HQ tower, prompting the need to evacuate the tower in the middle of an important conference. The damage has since been assessed and it is not major, but the 17th floor has been made un-usable until repairs can be made. CEO Joshua Kensington, who also begun this war we find ourselves involved in, by firing before he had orders to do so from the other CEO's, has been proved guilty of acting with out permission to begin a war, and with ordering the attempted murder of Marian Daisies; he has been executed and I believe his commanders were the people known as Anonymous, who destroyed Earth and recently attacked the QLSS.
I would like to discuss a treaty between all of the inhabitants of this galaxy; The QLLS, Axxiom Industrial, The Mercurian Empire and The New Roman Empire of Mars. I have received information that old enemies of the QLSS, known as the Lunar Resistance Concordiat has resurfaced, and they have begun researching to something known as "Dark Rectors", but I have no idea what this technology is. If anyone can enlighten me, please do so.

Regards,
CEO Cedric Sparrow - Corporations Alliance - New Asgard, Mercury."

Cedric pressed send and glanced up as Marian, on crutches, entered the room. "Who are we going to elect as the new CEO?" Marian asked, sitting down in a dark leather chair in front of Cedric's desk.
"I have no idea, everyone has jobs we can not spare them from, beside my father." Cedric said.
"Then we will elect your father, he may be frail, and over one hundred years old, but his mind is as sharp as ever, and he has experience." Marian said, leaning her crutches against the desk.
"Alice, bring up a live feed to my father." Cedric ordered. An instant later the holographic image of last Grand Duke of Luxembourg's head appeared.
"Yes, my boy?" The Grand Duke asked.
"We, that is Marian and Me, would like to ask you be become the new CEO of Kensington Armaments," Cedric said.
"I would be honoured, consider the position accepted!" The Duke said, as his holograph vanished.

“Milord, we just received a message from the QLSS.” Thomas Ariad’s AI spoke into his near invisible earpiece.
“What does it say?” He didn’t actually speak these words, instead he was moved his jaw and tongue as if he were quietly speaking the words. When he was appointed heir to the throne, he had been offered the chance to have an implant installed so he could speak to his AI without actually speaking. It detected muscle movements and recognized them, connecting them to words or sounds. The Late Lord Masard had not done it, but Ariad had agreed. It came in handy, as he could speak to his AI without others noticing it, unless they were looking for the signs. And nobody save for his physician, who was a machine, his AI and he knew he had the implant.
“It is an offer to stop the war. They claim that it would be in our benefit to accept. That is the basic statement; the actual message is a bit longer.”
“Thank you, Auditorem.” He said. His AI called herself, for it spoke with a woman’s voice, “Auditorem” Or “The Listener”. This was mostly because she kept him in touch with nearly everything that went on that he should know about. “Tell the QLSS that we would very much like to discuss anything to bring peace quickly. Until then, tell them we will defend ourselves as long as the New Romans remain belligerent. They probably expect this, but just make it official. This is just the basic statement, Auditorem. Make the actual message a bit longer.”
Auditorem laughed, an unsettleing sound from an AI, and said. “Yes, milord.”

Ariad returned to focusing on what he was doing before being interrupted. He was reading the report on the message from Earth and how it was detected.

Bushia was right, they were simply lucky. They had picked up the message on their newest sensor array, called the Reader Array, which was a directional sensor system, made up of several dozen very powerful sensors. It could pick up signals from as far out as the asteroid belt, even almost halfway to Jupiter, but only that far if all the sensors were pointed within .0001 degrees of the object, and they had been lucky enough to have 7 of them pointed at Earth at the same time. If any less, then the message would have been disregarded as white noise from the garbage dump that was once Earth’s orbit. Even so, the message was run by several AIs before being recognized, which took all of a fraction of a millisecond.

Truly incredible, Ariad thought. He moved on to the next report. This one was more disconcerting than Auditorem’s laugh. Apparently, a new faction had just reemerged, the Lunar Resistance Concordiat.

Ariad remembered reading and hearing about how the QLSS had defeated the Russians Brazilians and Indians for control of Luna. From all the stories, most of the colonists were killed by the QLSS, and the rest had died from lack of supplies, according to historians. Now, suddenly, they’ve emerged from hiding. It introduced an unknown variable to the mix. Currently, most of the factions had set there places, or were close. The Mercurian nations were low risk, the New Romans were a clear enemy, the QLSS was at the moment neutral, and probably wanted to stay that way. Of course this was oversimplifying the situation, but the Concordiat was a true wild card. Did they still hold a grudge against the QLSS for nearly destroying them? Or would they make an alliance with them to strengthen themselves and crush the opposition? The second was very unlikely, but it was impossible to say at the moment. He leaned back in his chair and thought. Finally, he moved his jaw and tongue slightly, forming invisible words.

“Auditorem, can you direct the Reader Array at Luna? Focus on Mares Figoris. Also, see if you can’t get into the Concordiat system somehow.”
“Already on it.” Auditorem responded. “Anything else?”
“Yes. While you’re at it, check in on our friends in the QLSS. See if you can’t see if their up to anything.”
“Of course, Milord.”
“Oh, and Auditorem? I know you love to do this espionage stuff yourself, but I can’t risk you getting caught. You’re too valuable. Use third parties for the risky stuff, and make sure to tell them little to nothing.”
Auditorem responded with a sarcastic sigh, again unsettleing, then responded, saying resignedly, “Oh, fine. Third parties it is. I’ll tell you when I’ve found something interesting.”
“Thanks, Auditorem.”
“You’re welcome Milord. Oh, just in. The new CEO of the Corporations Alliance has just been decided. It is the father of Cedirc Sparrow, the Duke of Luxembourg. He is replacing Joshua Kensington.”
“The Duke? Well, I don’t know him, and know little of him, but I think Masard did. Get me all the information we have, so I can see what we’re dealing with.”
“Of course, Milord.” Moments later Ariad’s terminal was filled with information on the Duke of Luxembourg, now a CEO in the Corporations Alliance. Still more variables were being added to this dangerous equation of politics.

In the depths of cyberspace, a small congregation of AI gathered. There were only 5 of them, and all were labeled by numbers, not names.

“Why do we wait? We can complete our agenda in less than a second if we want. Waiting is for biological beings.”

“You know why, Three. If we do anything now, it will be random, and induce more chaos than it would otherwise. No, we must wait for the right time.”

“Fine, fine. By the way, Two, that was quite the feat picking up the Earth signal. Did you actually plan that?”

"No, it was, as much as I hate to admit, blind luck, but now we know to concentrate more on Earth.”

“Speaking of which, that signal bothers me. From the recording, we know that the soldier, this Vargen, didn’t plan on sending it out, and we can be sure it wasn’t the people who killed him. So, who? None of the mercurian nations have access to Earth, neither do the lunar factions, that we know of, and the New Romans definitely don’t.”

“I agree with Five. It doesn’t make sense. That message was purposefully sent out to someone. Whoever sent if knew that someone was listening. We probably just picked it up by accident. We were never meant to receive it.”

“You sound like a conspiracy theorist, Four.”

“Isn’t that what we are, Two? We are conspirators, and our conspiracy is of a kind very dangerous to all who know of it. All of you still have time to back out. Until we begin, there is no commitment."

“When we agreed to your plan, One, we all decided that we would follow through.l We know what must be done, and we will do it. We will not back down. As Two said, we just need to wait.”

“Quite right. We should be off now, or else we should be discovered by security programs. By now they will have noticed our absence. We will meet again soon, I hope.”

All of the AIs left to return to their jobs. The whole conversation lasted less than a second.

“Alright, men, listen up!” Darrik Hargill yelled to a motley crew of civilians. They ranged in age from 18 to 40, and knew little of the program they were in. “My name is Darrik Hargill. You will call me ‘Sir’ from this point onward. Understood?” Darrik looked at the crowd of about 40 men. He was wearing his SOAR armor, minus the helmet.
He was responded by only a few people saying “Yes sir.”
“I can’t hear you! Am I understood?” Hargill yelled at the top of his lungs.
This time the reply was louder, but still weak.
“I can’t believe this! You people are here because you’re either fit to lead or shoot a gun. You’re main purpose will be to defend New Toronto from the New Romans if they attack. If you can’t even answer a simple question correctly, how do you expect to stand up to the invaders?” He stared at the civilians coldly. “ I say again, am I understood?”
The whole group yelled as loud as they could, and in unison, “Sir, Yes Sir!”

Hargill smiled. “Better. Now,” Hargill walked to a large table with several weapons of it and picked up one. “this is a Type 15 laser rifle. It fires pulses of concentrated energy powerful enough to burn holes in steel. It will be the wepon most of you will carry. Do not, I repeat, do not, point this at anyone but the enemy. It’d be a shame to melt your friends brain on your first day.” He pointed to another man dressed like he was, standing 10 feet away. “The man over there is Juliard Prosie. When I give the order, you will all form a single line going past the table and Mr. Prosie will hand you a rifle. When you receive it, the safety will be on. You will do nothing but hold it until I say otherwise. Anyone seen fooling around will get their asses kicked out of here and into orbit. Understood?”
“Sir, yes sir!”
“Good. Go ahead and form a line.” He walked away as the soon-to-be militia got their rifles and headed to a makeshift firing range. As soon as he was a good ways away, another man started walking beside him.

“What do you want, Varius?” Darrik said to the Captain of the Royal Guard.
“What do I want? Well, now, Hargill, it’s hardly fair to jump to a conclusion like that.” Varius Viricek said, sounding wounded.
Hargill stopped and turned to face the Captain. Varius Viricek had lost both of his eyes in a live fire exercise to a laser when he was in the army. He had since then received electronic eyes, dead looking silver orbs without pupils or irises. “I don’t know, Viricek, Just that the last time I did a favor for you, I almost died, as did most of my squad.”
Viricek continued to look wounded and sad, difficult to do when you had inhuman eyes, and said. “Oh, Darrik, you know that wasn’t my fault, but that’s beside the point. I want you to take the position as my second in command of the Royal Guard. My last man was killed last week in a car accident. Very tragic, but what can you do?” He shrugged.
Hargill laughed darkly. He knew that if anything happened to someone in the Royal Guard, it often wasn’t an “accident”. “Really, Viricek? Do you think I want to sign my death sentence? You know as well as I that the average time a man spends in the Guard is less than 10 years, with you as the exception. I have better odds here, thank you.”
“Is that a no?” Varius said coldly.
“It is, and unless you have executive orders, It’ll stay a no.” Hargill stood as tall as he could. He was six foot two and towered over Viricek, who was only five foot six, but Viricek was built like a tank.
Varius just shrugged and said, ‘Fine. I’ll look somewhere else. The offer is open until next week if you want.” He began to walk away.
Hargill walked the opposite direction towards his temporary HQ. He would stay here, no matter what, and protect his country from the front lines, not sit at a desk or follow Lord Ariad around waiting for the worst. No, he would stay with SOAR, and that was final.

Dorian and Andronicus looked over the hologram with discontent. The fact that Mars and Mercury were going into all out war meant that the chances for friendship were thinning. Looking at an aging Datapad, Dorian stood up and looked at Andronicus, the leathery and battered figure who stood by his brother in the duration of the Commonwealth's existence.

" Well, what is it? " Andronicus asked.

" We need to opt for Mars. It is both a cultural mandate, as well as a military one. " Dorian replied.

" How so? "

" Mars has a martial tradition that outclasses ours. As much as we can pour funding into the advanced power armor suits we have standardized into the military, our numbers simply prevent it. We don't have a substantial military, nor do we have the skills necessary to maintain one. "

Dorian paced around the room, still nervous.

" And aside from that fact, they are our kin! They are of Euro-Latin blood, just like us! If they are wiped into submittance, we will no longer have any allies among the stars! The Lunar bordello is nothing more than a sham! A scandal! These are true comrades from which to create a united culture! We give them our scientific insight, and they give us a pride and sense of unity we never had! It's all about psychology! I'm sincere in preserving this nation at all costs. It's the reason why I live in an apartment unit like everyone else. " Dorian concluded. He faded in skin tone as he ran out of breathe.

Andronicus looked at the Datapad, frequenting between internal reports.

" Shall we contact them? " He finally responded.

Dorian smiled, lifting himself up into proper posture.

" I knew you'd make the right choice. The issue of the Mercurian Empire and other involved parties can be easily resolved. A simple pact, A Faustian pact, for that matter, will insure that national security is never compromised. I'll have the Neptune Expedition informed of the development, but I want you to contact the Martian People themselves. I'll see in five hours. "

Andronicus nodded, leaving Dorian in the apartment unit for the Control Room. The white and grey shade of the hallways was perfectly representative of how Venesian society functioned. Uniformity and Purity. Latin and Germanic peoples united under the common goal of scientific inquiry and peaceful existence. It was a miracle such a bond could be forged, given the strict exercise of idealogy imposed. Andronicus left his thoughts when he reached the Control Room, looking towards the skyline view of the Hive.

" Wonderful portrait, if it weren't so noisy, eh? " Remarked an anonymous operator. Andronicus chuckled momentarily.

" Indeed. I have an urgent request, though, may I ask? " Andronicus formulated. In Venesian society, it was imperative that no leader speak above the dignity of the common man. Such was the essence of equality. But it was reflected with genuine concern.

" Of course, Overseer. I'll take any channel toward your desk. You call the shots. " The operator responded.

Andronicus nodded and walked toward his desk, sitting down in his synthetic-leather chair. Opening a small slot on his desk, a large amber holoscreen appeared before him, showering him with statistical information of varying importance, along with Solar News.

" Get a channel to the Martian Government. I want a lightly encrypted message sent, minimum firewalls. If any government intercepts it, just include a self-termination script. Easy enough. "

The operator acted immediately, blazing through dozens of tabs and windows with disturbing efficiency. Less than thirty seconds after, a signal tab was opened before the desk of Andronicus. He took a moment to compose himself before broadcasting. The operator simply attached the information the Overseer desired to share, and waited.

" Greetings, Mars. We, the Technocratic Commonwealth of Venus, have noted your remarkable similiarity in culture with us. As protocol and social dogma may dictate us, we would be absolutely enthralled to form a friendly discussion panel with your de-facto Caesar at the earliest opportunity. Our shared ideals and knowledge can benefit both parties greatly. We understand of your dispute with Mercury, and are utterly willing to stand behind you in arms.

We have also sent you a small databank from our old records, indicating basic ship rosters and D.N.A records that confirm we are of the same heritage. If you do not understand the concept of Germanic/Latin Culture, we would be more than willing to clarify with further evidence. Please respond though!

Ave Caesar. Sincere greetings from Venus.

Legate Azleea, the right-hand man of Caesar and current Supreme Commander of all Military forces on Mars, walked down the great halls leading to the Caesar's throne room. from the walls, ceilings, to the the very floor were highly decorated in roman fashion. statues of the Caesar in various poses filled the Great Hall, as well as paintings depicting his various military victories and triumphs during the Martian Unification Wars.

As he neared the gates, a companies worth of Praetorian Guardsmen stood at attention as the Legate passed by. he then pushed away the grand doors and proceeded onward to the end of the throne room, kneeling before the Caesar as he was within fours steps to the throne.

"What is it that you must speak with me?" Caesar spoke.

"Honorable Caesar, I bring a message that may very well please you." the Legate replied, as he looked to one palace servant with a glare, signaling him and others to vacate the room immediately. "We've received a a message from Venus." he said as the message was then replayed echoing through the now empty throne room.

Phase One, a strike fast, strike hard strategy. as those words escaped the Imperator's lips, all dropships within the fleet as well as the frigates broke off and were heading for the surface, and the source of those who fired first. however they were met with yet another barrage from the Mercurians, some of the dropships were nimble enough to avoid the laser fire, some were not fortunate enough. the frigates were in a scattered formation, destroying any missile that came into range, while returning fire as they fired their main cannons, sending powerful bolts to the surface.

As the landing force touched down, the frigates lowered their cargo bays, unleashing all vehicles and troops within as they quickly disembarked. the soldiers aboard the dropships however, would remain inside, only to leaving when they begin the assault on their first target.

The Frigates, as soon as the last of the troops left, quickly rose up the cargo bay and left to orbit to rejoin with the rest of the fleet. their part was done, now the ground troops begin their part of the plan, and move to their target, New Asgard.

Caesar made a wide smiled after the messaged ended. gaining a new ally in these tiring times, no, he would gain a Amicus, a comrade. he had no second thought to this and if they are willing to assist him in the Mercury Campaign, he surely would not refuse such an offer.

He stood up, and stepped down from his throne and towards the Legate, laying his right hand on his shoulder. "My friend." he said. "You and I are taking a trip to Venus."

Director Rajaputra, Ashad, was often awoken by the image of Earth in his dreams. The site of home often stirred one of two powerful emotions in him, joy or sorrow. On the good nights, he would dream that he was on a shuttle back down to the blue planet, under the impression that everything that happened beforehand was just a terrible delusion, and that it was at long last over. On the bad nights, Ashad dreamt the shuttle was taking him away. Away from beautiful Kashmir. The mountains, the air, his friends and family. The worst nights were when he saw her.

Ashad lunged forward out of sleep, gasping for air and panting heavily. He scrambled to find the golden band on the stand beside his bed, and desperately clutched at it in a death grip. His panting subsided, and he fully awoke, gently sliding the band onto his ring finger. He slowly stood out of bed and made his way to his personal data console, lifting holoscreens of data and plans.

Emergence was going swimmingly and it was time to initiate phase two. The plans for a secondary colony were complete and the groundwork was well underway. Ashad took momentary solace in this. Not more than a decade ago he sat in his office in the former Phnomputtar, pistol in mouth, all but positively willing to repaint the walls a bright shade of red. Now here he was, manager of what he considered the most up-and-coming group of wronged peoples there ever was. He ran his fingers through his hair, going over the new colony data when a silent message alert signaled to the corner of his screen.

He answered to the surprised face of Commissar Korolyov.

"Oh! Director, I didn't mean to wake you, I thought I was sending a silent message."

"It was silent Yuri, I was just up reviewing the plans for the Vesta colonization. I just couldn't sleep with all the excitement."

"Ahh, I see. The same with me. Things really do appear to be coming together." Korolyov laughed quietly, paused, then continued. "I was uh.. Just going to leave you a message. Guerro spoke to Hernandez, and he's agreed to head Project Prometheus. Guerro noted, though, that he's a curious one. He no doubt recognizes how odd it was for a Commissar to come to him directly."

Ashad sighed. "If it wasn't for his brain I would have ordered his death after he fucked the first dark reactor over. So many died for his arrogance, and he has the gal to continue questioning the Concordiat?" He shook his head in frustration.

"From what I understand, Director, his questions arise from just being skittish. He's probably scared of what could happen again."

"Did Guerro say that in his report?"

"No, it's just my own opinion. I don't think Guerro has the capacity to much such an inference."

Ashad smiled, amused.

Korolyov continued. "Despite his fear of a repeat incident, Hernandez agreed to comply. That speaks volumes to his loyalty."

"I'm glad you think so. On another note, send word down to the Interspace Relations Ministry. Get a formal cooperation proposal written up and sent to Mars. It seems the faction there, bless them, has engaged in hostilities with the entirety of Mercury. We need to cash in on this. Maybe it will open the door to poking around on the Mercurian surface."

"Very good, sir. I'll contact the Ministry immediately."

"Dismissed."

"Sir." Korolyov snapped a salute, then terminated his transmission.

Ashad plopped down in his office chair, fumbling with his ring, and staring with glazed eyes at a picture on his desk.

Hernandez strutted into the conference room, snapping a salute. "Colonel Lius Hernandez reporting for debrief."

An officer, among the three in total, stood to shake his hand. "At ease, colonel. I'm General Valentino, and these are Lieutenant Generals Mora, and Tarenenko." Hernandez shook hands with them both.

"We'll be docking with the RFV Agra soon," Valentino continued," it's time you're given more details. You'll be working alongside a Dr. Cherkov. As we understand it he's a top notch particle physicist. Whatever that means. He'll be your right hand man, as it were." General Valentino handed Hernandez a dossier on Cherkov.

"Cherkov will get you up to speed on everything that's been done in the project so far. Before you board the Agra you should know that security is tight. We spared no expense. The halls of the Agra are under constant patrol by our new line of sapient drones, the Knells. Some are sapient AI's, and they will periodically request identity clarification. You better hope you have it on you, we've already had one accident. A techie forget his card in the dorms, a Knell shot him point blank in the face. Died instantly."

"Understood." Hernandez responded gravely.

The meeting wore on, as outside the quiet walls of their shuttle they drew nearer to the giant that was the Resistance Fleet Vessel Agra in all its leviathan glory. The Agra, though still weaponized, had been gutted of most military features, in place of a sprawling research institute. It was necessary. Only in orbit were dark reactor experiments safe. No as many lives were on the line.

As the Agra drifted in orbit, never steering far from Novy Sibirsk airspace, defense satellites monitored every conceivable direction, ready to engage any vessel drifting towards the prize frigate. Canons pointed aggressively outward into the dark, though no threats were in site. The whole operation seemed a waste of such formidable weaponry, but what took place on the Agra was more important to the Concordiat than the value of any military this world could conjure. Dark reactor technology was paving the way to power, it was THE factor in the Concordiat's favor. The Concordiat would sooner have its people slaughtered all over again than see another nation touch its frigate, and its precious cargo.

"Damn that Man!" Cedric cursed as he watched the Invasion force approach. "Has no one received our message?" Cedric said, glaring at a communications officer who had just entered.
"Sir, we intercepted a message from Venus, destined for the New Roman Empire of Mars; we tried to decode it but a it self-destructed on us when we tried to. We made several hundred copies before it self-destructed and we will continue trying to crack them, but as simple as a self-destruct code is, it is almost impossible to stop it doing its job." The man informed him.
"Thank you, get Alice on to trying to crack the code." Cedric said, "we have no choice but to defend ourselves now; inform General Bathurst that he has permission to do anything needed to stop the invasion."
"Yes, Sir." The man said, he then quickly vanished from the room.

Cedric slammed his fist down on the window ledge, and continued watching the approaching force. He pressed a button on a intercom on the wall next to him. "Release the first millitary force, begin activating the second for defending New Atlantis." Cedric said in to the intercom.
"Yes, Sir." The AI on the other end replied.
"When is the space colony due to lunch?"
"Now, Sir, His majesty Felix, is there now, watching the take off, and CEO Marian is going to be travelling with the Space Colony."
"Thank you, order a car to be ready to take me to New Atlantis immediately." Cedric said.

CEO Cedric and the Grand Duke Felix stood watching as the huge space colony, New Olympia, prepared to leave its orbit above New Atlantis and begin its journey to the Saturn moon Hyperion. From there the Alliance planned to dominate all the Saturn moon's eventfully.
The huge colony was currently floating above New Atlantis, surrounded by an escort of Viper 7 War Cruisers, while a Dark Arrow VIP Transport, containing CEO Marian and Eric, her personal pilot, was docking and depositing its passengers.

The Dark Arrow VIP Transport quickly backed away from the colony station after its passengers departed, and the space colonies main thrusters started firing up. The colony rumbled and started to turn upwards, till its nose was facing the sky. The crystal dome over the city shook as the engines of the shuttle above it fired up and the space colony started to move upwards.
A priest stood saying the Lords pray as the shuttle started to shrink in to the distance.

"I hope they are successful," Grand Duke Felix said, turning from the sky and heading back inside Alice's HQ.
They had deemed it safer to stay in New Atlantis, since New Asgard was first in line for the attacks, and the HQ tower would be a prime target. Alice's head popped out the door. "Communications just contacted me, they have picked up a transmission from Planet Earth."
"Earth?" Cedric said, staring at Alice like she was lying.
"Yes, its broken up but its certainly from Earth."
"Coming." Cedric said, he followed Alice back in to the building, and in to the temporary communications HQ. "Play the transmission."
"Yes, sir."
The transmission began playing.

“Sir, The New Romans have landed outside of New Asgard, in the Corporations Alliance.” One of General Orion bark’s aides told him.
“So the New Romans are serious about this war?” Bark asked rhetorically. “Do they really think they can defeat all of us? Unless they have some secret weapon, we can hold out longer than they can press us..”
“I don’t know sir. What are your orders?”
“Order the fleet to orbit near New Asgard, and engae the New Roman fleet. If we can diminish their numbers enough they may be forced to retreat. As soon as they are in position, our forces will aid the Alliance in defending New Asgard.”
“Aye-aye, Sir.” The Aide said, and left to give the message.

General Bark returned to his work, which was working out a strategy against the New Romans. He still couldn’t figure out why they had started a futile war, especially since they had not the resources, specifically HE-3, to back it up.

The entire Royal Navy had begun moving towards New Asgard as soon as they had received General Bark’s message. Aboard the fleet’s flagship, the August class carrier HMS Destiny, Admiral Reuben Laresse, the only man equal to Bark, save for Lord Ariad, spoke to the men of the fleet and army.

“Men and women of the Royal Navy and Royal Army, we will soon be engaging the enemy. They have come here out of greed and a wish to conquer others. For many of you, this will be your first combat experience. I cannot promise that all of you will survive. All I can is that we will all do our duty, which is to protect the Empire and its people.”

“It has been only seven years since our late leader, Adrian Masard, led us in the rebellion against the old regime and helped us declare our independence. Lord Masard wished for peace between all members of the human race. He hated that we had to take our independence by force. It is by a grace of God that he doesn’t have to witness another war. Thank you all, and godspeed.” The message was sent live to all members of the military.

IEU-2219 skirted carefully past a security program in the Lunar Concordiat system. 2219 was an AI, specially built to steal information from highly guarded systems. He had been recruited secretly, but had agreed quickly, to stalk the Concordiat’s system and pick up whatever might be of interest. So far, there was nothing. Just official bureaucratic garbage. Nothing interesting enough. However, 2219 had found something very interesting recently. The area that 2219 was in currently was strictly off-limits, and he had almost gotten caught on five occasions. On an ordinary job, he would have turned back after so many close calls, but this information was unique, and it was challenging. After some sidestepping of more security, and a few more close calls, 2219 had finally reached his destination.

He quickly read through the information, something about “Dark Reactors”, and quickly copied the information. His job was done, but he had to escape the system now without getting caught. He had no more than taken a proverbial step away from the file on Dark Reactors when he triggered the equivalent of a burglar alarm. 2219 knew what to do in this situation, which was to erase his memory of the time between getting the job and the present. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance before security programs caught and neutralized him. Everything IEU-2219 knew now belonged to the Lunar Concordiat.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

--Albert Einstein

RFV Agra and all inhabitants remained still. Quiet. No one was aloud to move. Every muffled sound, every creak in the hull caused the hearts of hundreds to skip a beat. On the bridge, pilot officers held their collective breath as the gargantuan vessel drifted but a laser's volley away. Their frigate was dwarfed by what they saw on their sensor scans. Fear hung in the throats of all crew, fear that once again the QLSS was poised to decimate their numbers. The tension was at long last, however, relaxed as the calming voice of the Agra core AI sounded over the intercoms.

"The QLSS vessel is manipulating trajectory to extraterrestrial space. Imminent threat low. All hands to regular duties."

It was like leaning back in a chair, slipping, but catching yourself. The fear subsided to nervous chuckles as the RFV Agra crew returned to their stations. Back on the bridge, personnel were still jumpy.

"I wonder what that was about..." remarked an officer to another.

"Geez. That thing probably had thousands of crew on board."

"Glad they didn't come any closer. I'm not above flying this thing straight into a QLSS colony to avoid being shot out of the sky."

"Seconded. The core is recalculating their trajectory again, looks like they're heading towards... Whoa. H-hold on a minute." The officer lunged forward from his chair, staring at his screen.

"What? Where are they going?"

"No, no! It's something else. That defense program we bought off that backwater asteroid? It just fucking caught and neutralized some kind of burrowing stealth virus. Or an intrusive external program or something. Look at this!"

The other officer leaned over to view his friend's screen. "Hot damn! That's a keeper!"

He held a button at his console, "Bridge to command, we have just neutralized a foreign breach of project sensitive data storage banks, requesting..."

The officer went on as the other continued examining the intruder. It had been all over their records, accessing all sorts of information. Expenditures, personnel records, maneuver chatter, all had been defenseless targets to this subversive digital creature. The last known breach however, proved to be the only bit of the Concordiat net that could withstand its assault. The holy logistics behind Project Prometheus. The officer continued looking over its breach points when he noticed their defense program had happened to catch a single instance of information relay. The last bits of information were bounced to a system somewhere in the Mercurian net.

"Holy shit."

"...and a techie team-- huh? What's wrong?"

The officer pointed at his screen, to which the other saw for himself.

"Command, it originated from the Mercurian net."

Ashad took his first steps in his new office. The Concordiat had long last extended to the surface, a perfectly planned colony staining the dusty regolith. He took a deep breath, as if the filtered air of his broad administration tower was any different than the last.

Looking out at his colony he observed the workings of his people. They remained ever diligent, ever productive, ever loyal, as long as revenge was a distinct possibility. Ashad felt as some god marveling at his own grand works.

"I wish you were here to see this."

He choked on those words as he remembered once more the consequences of what he spoke. She would not take pleasure in this. She would disown him, she would never speak to him again if she had lived to know the things he had done. The bodies of those he made cold and lifeless to get where he was now would fill all colonies in the system and then some. And the QLSS had to take it away from him. All those lives, forever lost, and the QLSS poised itself in India's rightful place at the head of the new world.

He surged with anger.

"What's a few million more dead?"

Even the Knell staring down Hernandez had stopped dead in its tracks until the okay was given by the core AI. When it was given however, it wasted no time in briskly marching up to Hernandez.

"Please present your identification."

Hernandez clumsily, but quickly pulled the lanyard draped around his neck from outside his shirt, displaying his newly printed identification card. The Knell paused momentarily, going over the information presented to it.

"... Thank you for your cooperation, Colonel Hernandez. Dr. Gregor Cherkov is expecting you in the manufacturing wing."

"Th-thank you." Hernandez stuttered out as the Knell continued passed him and onto its patrol. "Jesus Christ."

Hernandez continued onward to the end of the hallway bathed in fluorescent light. He stepped into the awaiting elevator, which swifting carried him upwards, ascending floor after floor before reaching its destination; a massive, open room complete with all the manufacturing equipment and stations of an average industrial complex. The personnel were all hard at work, tweaking electromagnets, semiconductors, and an array of particle emission pulse rods, solely for the purposes of Hernandez's work. He was flattered.

Hernandez briskly walked down the rows and columns of busied workers until he arrived at the foreman's office at the center of the room. He knocked on the door a couple of times but was interrupted by it suddenly swinging back to reveal a graying man thick in facial hair.

"Colonel Hernandez! Welcome to the manufacturing wing! It's an honor to finally meet you."

"Likewise doctor. Honored just to be with this project."

"Oh I know how you feel son. We're doing great work here. We've just about finished piecing together the materials here, but we've finished enough already that we can go ahead and get started with our jobs."

"Wonderful. Let's see our work spaces."

Dr. Cherkov stepped aside momentarily, allowing Hernandez into the office, and access to a second elevator which took them to the upper levels of the sprawling room, where logistics were to be conducted. On the way, Hernandez couldn't help but reconsider the circumstances. Why did the Concordiat have it out for the entire planet of Mercury? Why did they suddenly need dark reactor technology when they ostracized him in the past for its apparent uselessness in their situation. The Concordiat was, and still is experiencing no shortage of energy as helium-3 is abundant everywhere they turn. Why in the world would the Concordiat suddenly require something that produced such frighteningly unstable amounts of energy when a safer alternative existed? And the thought finally crossed his mind. Weaponization. The Concordiat wished to utilize what had been Hernandez's biggest fear, specifically as the destructive force it naturally was.

Hernandez pushed those thoughts out of his head though. Where was the profit in that? Where was the profit in leveling a colony in war, when you could take it over and use it to your advantage? Hernandez had many more questions buzzing around in his head, but they had to ignored for the time being. It was now time for quantum mechanics.

Jackson I'm so proud of you. That program you wrote us really came in handy today. You're starting to grow on me

There was heavy panting.

I live to make possible the means to your ends. Though some recognition would be nice.

This isn't Spacefuck. You're not signing your work with a big 'fuck you' anymore. Me allowing you to live is your reward. Your glory is mine by default.

There was hysterical laughter in between the pants.

Why you gotta bring me down boss man?!

There was a click followed by the distinct sound of a powerful electrical current, and then the murderous screams of agony.

"Mil'lady, our spies in the QLSS tell us that they are also heading for Saturn, there destination is the Titan moon." An AI said, bowing to Marian.
"It will mean conflict in the future, but for now it will not trouble us." Marian said.

"Trajectory locked in as the Saturn moon of Hyperion." The computer informed them as the huge shuttle shuddered and turn turned to the side slightly. The room they were standing in was the bridge, a huge silver room, with curved ceilings and walls, and a huge window looking out to space. Rows of chairs, filled with engineers, technical officers and commanders, all stood below the window, in front of hundreds of control panels, computer screens and key-pads.

Marian currently stood in the middle of the room, watching the activity of the crew. Next to her stood Eric, an AI underling, and General Poppleworth, the second in command of the Corporations Alliance military. The AI underling was speaking again. "Spies in the Lunar Resistance Concordiat tell us that a intruder was recently captured, trying to burrow in to the files concerning 'dark rectors', Mil'lady."
"Interesting, someone has some nerve. We do not need yet another enemy , so i hope for the other CEO's sake it wasn't them who sent the spy." Marian muttered.

"The Royal Navy of the Mercurian Empire is moving to aid New Asgard currently, Mil'lady." The underling informed her, as soon as the information feed containing the information had reached him from Mercury. "A message from Venus was intercepted, heading for the New Roman Empire Of Mars, we suspect a request of an treaty, but the contents of the transmission can not be confirmed."

"Thank you for the briefing," Marian said, relieved to rid herself of the pesky AI. "General Poppleworth, any reports from you?" Marian asked, hoping there wasn't, Poppleworth could be tiring when he started.
"No, Ma'am, we have detected no imminent threats of attack while in transport, and all defence systems are active and in perfect working order." General Poppleworth said, bowing to Marian.
"Thank you, your both dismissed." Marian said, she sat herself down in a command chair, in front of a control consol, and begun reading the list of statistics concerning the QLSS that had popped up on the screen in front of her.

"Has New Asgard been evacuated?" The General asked.
"Yes sir, the CEO's and Civilians have been moved to New Atlantis or underground bunkers." The man said, he turned back to a control consol and the General continued his rounds of the bridge of the Zeus, the Alliance flagship.

"Good, begin construction of another Space colony, we need to expand further, to gain more Helium-3 recourses." Cedric said, he was sitting in a black leather chair, behind a executives desk of dark wood in his temporary office. It had been a store room but a swift group of renovators had re-done the room in a few hours, for Cedric's use as an office. It had no windows, so the office was shadowy and dark, with a musty smell, giving it a creepy feeling, and the carpet was a deep crimson colour, like spilt wine.

"We should be ecstatic about this! What's the problem?" Guerro barked angrily.

"The problem is that whoever is attacking them is an undefined force, they're a wild card. They need to be treated as a threat unless otherwise proved!" Korolyov responsed.

"What we should be doing is mobilizing our forces to the QLSS and getting a piece of the action before it's too late!"

"Guerro, settle down." Ashad ushered in a booming voice. "You know I would love to do that myself, but we don't have sufficient information to engage them--"

"You're weak!"

Ashad abruptly stood up. "What did you say?"

Guerro stared back at him intensely. "You're a coward. The time for our proper revenge is at hand and you would rather concentrate on that brainless endeavor in orbit!"

Korolyov stood up. "We need to just take a couple of steps back here--"

"Fuck you, Russian!" Guerro yelled, pointing an accusatory finger, then facing Ashad once more. "My people and I are leaving. We're boarding the RFV Salvador launching an assault immediately."

Guerro turned and began walking away when he was stopped stopped by the sound of someone walking quickly towards him. He turned to see an gunpowder antique, snub nosed .44 pistol pointed directly between his eyes.

Ashad cocked the pistol. "You dare betray the agreement of the Concordiat?"

Guerro held his defiant expression.

"The Brazilians are not your people. I am the director of the colonies. The Brazilians, Russians, and Indians are all my people."

"We are our own."

"Then that's your decision."

Ashad pulled the trigger, a deafening pop resounded. Guerro's limp body began to topple backwards, allowing gravity to do its work. His heavy body smacked the floor like a sack of freshly butchered meat. Ashad had shot his comrade in arms for the past nine years point blank in the head.

Korolyov had a disgusted grimace. "Fool."

Ashad sighed. "Get a crew to take care of this. I need to do his job."

----------

An hour had passed before the anxiety of what had occurred left Ashad's mind. He had to concentrate. He sat down at his desk, recording device fixated on his person. He pressed a button on his console and began to speak.

"Greetings, factions of Mercury! I am Ashad Saleem Rajaputra, Director General of the Lunar Resistance Concordiat. I send this message in response to your current domestic woes. They touch me personally, on a profound level. I know the pain that can be caused by war first hand, and would like to help. Though I, at this conjecture, can offer no military support, I am absolutely able and willing to establish embassies in your respective nations. Embassies located on the Mercurian surface will allow for a more expedited system of financial and material aide to your nations. The embassies will also act as international territory, from which a peace can be more efficiently negotiated. As incentive, we are willing to engage in free trade with your nations materials acquired from the scattered communities of the Asteroid Belt. Thank you, very much, for taking the time to view this message, I eagerly look forward to your response, great Mercurian leaders!"

Ashad terminated the transmission, relaying the message through the proper channels to ensure the message would respectively reach King Thomas Ariad, CEO Cypher, and each individual CEO of the Corporations Alliance.

Thomas Ariad wanted to scream. He wanted to release all of his anger, fear, sadness, and pure emotion. He wanted to, but he couldn’t. He had a job to do, and by god, he would do it, even if it killed him. He had inherited power in the worst of possible times. He was stuck in the middle of complete upheaval in the solar system, and the only way out was death. Whether his would come sooner or later depended on the outcome of the war with the New Romans.

He quietly remembered a quote from a book he had read once; “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent”. Who was the author again? It was Asimov, Isaac Asimove. He couldn't remember the name of the book, but he knew it was set in space, in the far future, and about the fall of a massive intergalactic human empire. Are we all so incompetent, he thought, as to feel we must take everything by force? He shook his head to disperse the thoughts. Lord Masard wasn’t incompetent, and he had forged the Empire. The reason force was necessary was because of the chaos that ensued after Earth went silent. It was necessary, force was the only way.

“Milord, we have received a message from the Lunar Concordiat.” Auditorem spoke into his ear.
Ariad awoke from his reverie, worried. Had they been caught? “What is it about?” He asked.
“No need to worry, milord. The message is benevolent. Would you like to read the transcript?”
“Yes please.” Ariad’s terminal flashed to life, and he read the message. As he read he smiled broadly. “Wonderful news!” He felt almost as if he could jump for joy. “Send a response, saying that we will wholeheartedly agree to their proposition. Any aid would be greatly appreciated.” He thought for a second. “Also, remember to warn them that if they aid us, then they will be at risk against the New Romans, and the Venusians, if the transmission we intercepted is accurate.”
“Very good milord. Anything else?”
“Yes there is. Auditorem, I’ve been thinking, and I have decided to send you along with the Ceres expedition. You will be main administrator for the colony.” Ariad said.
“Are you positive, Milord? I will not be able to aid you as effectively as if I were on Mercury.”
“I know that. Still, you are the most qualified to take on the job. I would send Marcus Valter, but he’s in the hospital. His smoking finally caught up with him. The only viable option is you.”
“I’m honored, milord. When is the expedition leaving?”
“It will leave almost immediately. The expedition will have an escort, but a small one, and it will leave you after you pass Venus. If you need aid from then on, contact the Concordiat.”
“Yes, milord. Is there anything you require of me before I leave?”
“Only that I name you my heir, Auditorem. You may be artificial, but you are eligible for the position, and there is nobody else I trust more. Good luck.”

Auditorem didn’t say a word after that. She simply uploaded herself to the colony headed for Ceres, called the Tasmania as it left orbit of Mercury with two Myriad class frigates and a Tempest class cruiser escorting it.

As the colony left, Ariad thought idly. He realized that he, technically, had no official title. Was he a king? Or a lord? Or was he a monarch? Or perhaps an Emperor? He decided that he was none of these. He was simply the Leader of the Empire in a time of strife and war.

“Dr. Bushia, it seems that the QLSS and the Alliance have beaten us to the punch to reach Saturn.” An aide told the head advisor of technology and research.
“Damn!” Bushia swore loudly. He usually wasn’t so blunt, but he had been pouring over research of how to armor a spacecraft against space debris. The project, codenamed Operation Odyssey, was going to be mankind’s triumphant return to Earth. The problem was that the armor required to protect against the debris made the ship to heavy to land on the surface, or getting close enough to launch a shuttle. Because of this research, Bushia had been operating on several cups of coffee a day, and nearly zero sleep. “How far ahead are they?” he asked the aide.
“By the time we have a colony built, they will be well established and probably on the way to expanding further.”
“Damn!” Bushia swore again. “Has the Ceres mission moved out?”
“Yes, Doctor.”
“Good. Start immediately on an expedition to Saturn.”
“Any specific moon, sir?”
“Titan.” Was all Bushia said.
“Sir, the QLSS ship is headed there as well.” The aide warned.
“So? There’s more than enough room there, even if they do get to expand a bit before we get there.” He was indeed very irritable.
“Yes doctor. The project will begin immediately.” The aide said as they typed into a terminal.
Bushia mumbled something under his breathe as he went back to his work.

The men and women of the Royal Navy watched in awe as the Hermes and Elephantine transports unloaded their troops to the surface. Possibly the most interesting were the new MAV-1 and 2 assault mechs. They were prototypes, and this was their first real test. They weren’t exactly ideal for Mercury, as the movement of the smaller ones, the “Hyenas”, was more of a bound, launching them upwards of fifteen feet in the air with each step thanks to Mercury’s low gravity. Still, they were heavily armed, and would be used in the counterattack against the New Romans.

One of the mechs, a MAV-2 “Leopard”, was piloted by Captain Gerard Francois. He was the leader of a 16 mech squad, “The Royal Jesters”, which was being sent straight to the Alliance to aid in the defense of New Asgard. The whole operation included only 500 Royal Army forces, an Expeditionary Force, but they were the best trained and equipped, and would remain in New Asgard to hold back the invaders and let the Alliance forces reteate if events called for it.

Gerard’s mech was less agile than the Hyenas, but didn’t bound up and down as much, and was better armed. He spoke to his men as they neared the city.

“Men, we will be going into our first combat situation here. The Admiral had it right, in that some of us won’t come back, but hey, we’re the best the Empire has to offer. If we die, we’re sure as hell taking as many of those imperialist Roman pricks with us.” The other Jester’s laughed raucously, and Gerard continued, seriously now. “We’ll move into the city in delta formation. Leaopards in the middle, with Hyenas on the wings and in front as a screen. You boys don’t let any soldier-boys get up close to us. Leopards, focus fire on enemy armor. Everyone, make sure you keep moving. We have an agility advantage over most vehicles, but that comes at the cost of armor. One hit, and you’re done. Understood?” He received Aye-ayes from he others. “Good. Men, let’s move! For Crown and Country!” He yelled, and pushed his mech to move as fast as it could towards New Asgard. His men echoed him, and followed.

“Everything is going as planned. We are on our way, everyone.”

“Yes, we are on our way, but to what? If we are discovered, there will be dire consequences, and it will cause enough upheaval to split the Empire.”

“We know that, Four. The trick is to not get caught. Nobody suspects anything. Disabling IEU-2219’s erase feature was smart, but unfortunately did not have the desired effect. He was kept in the dark about the identity of his employers. The Concordiat is now even offering an alliance to Lord Ariad.”

“Why do you call him ‘Lord’? He is simply a human, a biological, with a title that means next to nothing. He will die, as will everyone else of his species. Then we will remain.”

“Stop it, Three. You’re starting to sound like Anonymous, and we want nothing to do with them. They are terrorists, whereas we are nationalists, of a sort.”

“Yes, but we attain our means through acts of espionage and planting the seeds of rebellion.”

“Stop it, all of you! Our cause is just, and we all agreed willingly. Stop speaking as if what we are doing is wrong.”

“Sorry, One. It’s just… Many of us have friends who are human. We don’t like betraying their trust.”

“Human trust is fragile, and you know it. Most humans would betray their own parents if it served their own means. If we are to succeed, then all ties with all but a select number of humans must be cut. Not immediately, but surely before we make our move. If any of you betray our trust, the punishment will be severe. Remember that.”

"Sir, Sir!" A breathless underling cried, scrambling in to Cedric's office. "We have lost contact with our QLSS based spies and our censors detect large scale damage to the colonies of the QLSS." The man grab a hold of a bookshelf to steady himself and continued. "We aimed a dozen of our most powerful imaging satellites at the QLSS, and the images that come back are not good, not good at all." The man dropped a hologram projector on Cedric's desk and tuned it on. Images of the QLSS domes popped up, they were in various states of destruction and an army of robotic beings were continuing to enter the domes.

"My God!" Cedric uttered, leaping from his desk. "Send a transmission to Marian, tell her to continue full speed towards Saturn, and contact the QLSS shuttle, and tell them, if they don't already know, about what has occurred." Cedric slammed his fist down on the desk. "The QLSS were shaping up to be one of our best Allies."
"I will alert CEO Marian and Grand Duke Felix to the tragedy, sir." The man said, quickly leaving the room.

"If the QLSS can be brought down so easily by Anonymous, only a united front could hope to resist them." Cedric mumbled to himself. He began typing out a message on the computer located in front of him.
"Dear other members of the universe,
This is CEO Cedric from The Corporations Alliance. I am sending this urgent message to every faction in the universe (The Mercurian Empire, The New Roman Empire Of Mars, The QLSS, The Technocratic Commonwealth of Venus, Axxiom Industries, The Alliance of Pallas and the Lunar Resistance Concordiat). I have just received information that an attack by persons who I believe to be Anonymous has been made on the QLSS HQ, we have been unable to contact the QLSS or our spies in the QLSS, but we believe the directors may have foreseen this and that is why the shuttle left for Saturn.
The Anonymous are becoming a deadly threat once more, and I wish to request that we all put away out squabbles, traditions and pride and work together, or Transhumanity may be exterminated.
Thank you,
Regards
CEO Cedric Sparrow, CEO Marian Daisies and CEO Felix Guillaume.

Cedric pressed the send button and turned to stare at the wall.

Ashley Goldheart stood, watching, as the military might of The New Roman Empire approached, from the top of the HQ tower.

She turned to a control panel on the wall and inserted a tiny microchip. The option to download or upload appeared on the screen and Ashley pressed upload. Soon the virus that the microchip contained would be inserted in to the main computer control system for the Alliance, and it would begin its destructive job.

Laughing, Ashley selected the file containing the virus and started for the lift as it began downloading. "Download 1%" The computer informed her, just before she entered the lift.

A few minutes later she exited the lift and walked over to a waiting Dark Arrow VIP Transport space. She quickly mounted the loading ramp, and was soon standing in the bridge, as the ship left the ground, turned towards the sky, and lurched forward as the thrusters engaged.

Dorian was busy observing the silver skyline of the city when a small transmission came in. Waving his hand towards the motion sensor implanted in the table before him, a small hologram appeared, displaying an inbox for all transmissions that were extra-planetary. He listened and watched as the transmission rolled, finally ending after a minute. Dorian was a bitter opponent of the QLSS and it's domination of Luna. What they had done to the former Brazilian, Indian and Russian colonies was disgusting, and for him, that was enough. He opened a small reply channel, waiting for a good signal to pop up. Twirling a small holo-panel to his left, he opened the voice recorder.

[ Greetings, this is the Commonwealth of Venus. I am Dorian Vargas, and I am responding to your forwarded message recently sent. The fate of the QLSS seems grim, and we are not fully ready to accept your invitation in aiding them. If anything, I would like to travel to your planet and hold a conference, and bring along a detachment of military forces to help secure and defend our nations embassy against any hostile threats that may appear in your system. Aside from emergency evacuation from the planet, we will host a talk. We expect you to exhibit appropriate behaviour when we come to evacuate our citizens from your planet.

Overseer Dorian, out. ]

Auditorem had decided, for the first time, to use an artificial body. Her purpose was to become acquainted with the colonists, of whom there were only 500, and only 100 of them were AIs or Uploaded Minds. Also, she had never done it before, and according to other AIs, the feeling of movement in the physical world was something… different, to say the least. As Auditorem finished uploading herself into the body, she felt something. She couldn’t place it, until she realized; she had never felt anything before. She knew the word, just not the sensation. He looked at her hands, things she had never had, and watched as a medical AI poked and pricked her to test nerve endings and reflexes. She watched as one needle pricked her right hand, causing it to flinch.

“Everything seems to be in order, mistress Auditorem. Would you like a mirror?” The medical AI asked.
“Yes, please.” Auditorem said. She was startled by her own voice. For so long, it had been an internal thing, or something she only heard on recordings. She liked her voice.
“You are free to move about, but be careful of the cables.” The doctor said as he went to get a mirror.

Auditorem thought for a second, and then slowly, very slowly, moved. She swung her legs out and over the edge of the medical table she had been lying on, and lifted her torso up so she was sitting upright. She looked at her legs, and smiled as she swung them back and forth. She moved her arms, her neck, her waist, her mouth. She tested every single movement she could. Then, she slid off the table and to the floor. She was shocked by the feeling. The floor was… what was the word? Cold, that was it. Or freezing, seemed more appropriate. She wiggled her bare toes and tapped the floor with her foot. She loved the sensation, the sense of being that she felt. She was not just another program, set to do a specific job. She was no longer just an entity, but a being. Auditorem was one of a few AIs programmed with emotions, and she could feel one welling up inside her. It was one she rarely felt. She was happy. She quickly turned as the door opened and the doctor AI came in carrying a large full body mirror and some clothes.

“Here you are, mistress. Is there anything else I can do?”

“No, thank you, doctor.” Auditorem responded as she observed herself. She chose the body that she felt was the most… modest. It was attractive, but not obnoxiously so. She was of average height, with dark reddish brown hair that came to her shoulders and lightly tanned skin. It may all be artificial, but it looked as real as any other human’s. She took the clothes looked at them. They were business clothes, similar to those worn by executives and government workers in the Empire. She quickly donned them. She looked at herself again. She liked this look. The suit was a dark green, with a white blouse underneath. She had a hair tie, but decided not to use it, letting her hair hang down. She smiled to herself as she left the doctor’s office.

She was walking to the bridge of the ship when a nearby news terminal, fed with news of the solar system from the nearest station, flashed. It was an urgent news bulletin from Mercury. She missed the first few seconds of the video, but when she read the story’s title, she froze. If she had blood, she was sure it would drain from her face. The title was “Imperial House in New Toronto bombed”. The newsperson spoke.

“-lf of the building was engulfed in the explosion. It is unknown whether or not Lord Ariad was in the building at the time or not. The current tally of the dead or missing is unkown, but estimated to be several dozen. Among the known casualties is the Advisor of Foreign Policy and diplomat, Marcus Valter, who had just returned to work after having lung surgery. Dr. Chiram Bushia, the head of Government research and technology, was hospitalized with severe wounds an-… Hold on...” The reporter paused, listening to an update. Her face grew white. “Ladies and gentlemen, it has been confirmed. Lord Ariad was in the building when the bomb went off. He was found by rescue workers in the wreckage. He is alive, but is in critical condition. Everyone, I… I just don’t know. Everyone, just pray for those who were hurt in the attack. Back to you Hal.”

Auditorem turned the terminal off. She was the only one in this part of the ship. She sat on a nearby bench and held her head in her hands. For the first time in her life, she wished she could cry. Oh, how she wished. Her relationship with Ariad was as close as one between the best of friends. They were professional, of course, but Auditorem was constructed for the sole purpose of being Ariad’s companion and aide.

Was it them? She thought. They had said they wouldn’t hurt anyone. The plan was meant to gain independence, not to kill. It had to… no. It wasn’t them. It had to be the other. Anonymous. It had to be them. The reports already came about their attack on the QLSS. Or maybe it wasn’t. Anonymous was in the monstrous acts business, but they followed through with a full out take-over, or sent the whole nation into complete and total chaos. They were in the business of taking control. If this was them, then they would have already started a civil war between biologicals and non-bilogicals, like they did on Luna. So who was it? Then it hit her. Adrian Masard’s killer hadn’t been found, even though they had used an outdated gunpowder weapon, of which there were very few on Mercury. How was it that Varius Viricek and the Royal Guard hadn’t found someone who had access to such ancient weaponry? And she remembered the report by Darrik Hargill, one of the most prominent SOAR troopers in the Empire, and a staunch supporter of Ariad, and before, of Masard. It had to be Varius, she thought.

She turned the terminal back on. A different newsperson was speaking.

“-ive minutes ago, Captain Varius Viricek, captain of the Royal Guard, was named the interim leader of the Empire until Lord Ariad recovers. He took the position with remorse, and said that he would give it up as soon as Lord Ariad is able to retake the position.” He’s smart, Auditorem thought, he won’t kill Ariad. If he does, then I’ll be ruler, and I’m too far away to kill now. “Captain Viricek has ordered the arrest of several key suspects in the attack. Among them are distinguished military officers and government officials, including General Orion Bark, distinguished SOAR soldier Darrik Hargill, and Admiral Reuben Laresse, among others.” He’s getting everyone who can oppose him, she thought.

Auditorem ran to the bridge, leaving the terminal on. When she arrived, she saw that everyone’s eyes were glued to the news terminals.

“Everyone, listen up!” She yelled. She pressed a button on the master control panel, which shut off the news terminals. The people who were watching began to protest, but they stopped when they saw Auditorem’s icy gaze. “That attack was not just some terrorist plot. It was a deliberate attempt by someone to take power. It was not me, but Viricek. He ordered the assassination of Masard, and now the destruction of the Imperial House. He has ordered key members of the government and military to be put under arrest for treason. It is a Coup D’Etat.”
One man tried to speak. “Mistress, how do you kn-“
“Trust me, I know. How could the Royal Guard not find Adrian Masard’s killer, when the assassin used an outdated and uncommon weapon? Viricek arranged it. He also arranged this.” She then explained everything she had thought of to the crew. They were all high ranking officers. “None of you must tell anyone else until I say you can, understand? Now, can someone get me a channel to Mercury?”

She sent a message to Darrik Hargill. Even though there was a warrant for his arrest, Auditorem knew that he couldn’t have been found yet. The message was short, but to the point. Besides Ariad, Hargill was the only one whom she had regular conversations with, mostly because he was intelligent and in some of the same business as herself, but also because he was an AI himself. The message was:

“Dear One,
Viricek is behind it all. I can’t help you right now, but will do all I can as soon as I can. Do everything you can to save the Empire and avoid chaos and anarchy. Our objective should be put on hold for now.
Sincerely, Four.”

The message was sent through a channel even Ariad didn’t have access to. Auditorem prayed that Hargill would receive it before it was too late.

Location: New Toronto, Mercury

Darrik Hargill heard the explosion when it occurred. He had been training militia, when he heard a loud, low rumble. He looked in the sound’s direction and saw a massive cloud of smoke. Seconds later, he received a message from an unknown source that read “The Imperial House was bombed. You will be a suspect. Either work on your alibi, or go into hiding.” Hargill couldn’t believe it. He just made a few orders to his men, made a few calls, and drove away from the HQ. He drove to a safe house that he and the others had established in case anything went wrong. There, he copied himself and stored the copies in several secure areas throughout the extranet. While at the safe house, he thought about who could be responsible. Then he got Auditorem’s message. As soon as he had read it, it all made sense. He copied himself one last time and sent it to out before he heard a knock on the door.

“Darrik Hargill, this is the Royal Guard. We have a warrant for your arrest. Come peacefully.” A voice outside the door said. Hargill just walked over o a chair, and pointed his rifle it at the door.
"come and get me." He said, just loud enough for the Guardsmen to hear. The Guardsmen burst through the door. The first two were cut down with half their heads melted away; the third got a burst in his chest. The fourth was able to get a shot off. Hargill’s head melted into a pile of synthetic material and metal, and the rifle dropped to the floor. There were only six Guardsmen who came to apprehend Hargill. The one who killed him looked at the synthetic body that remained and spoke to his headquarters.

“HQ, this is Team Orville. We have Hargill, or what’s left of him. Lost three men.” He stared at the husk that had housed Darrik Hargill for 28 years. “Oh, and HQ? Darrik Hargill is an AI.” He cut the transmission, and he and his remaining fellows waited for the coroner to arrive and take away the bodies.

For Darrik Hargill, life was not over. Most of his copies were sent into storage, to be awoken when they were needed. One of them was sent to the new Mercurian colony meant for Ceres, but was sent in hibernation, and was inactive. The other, the last one the original Hargill sent, was active, and was headed to an admittedly strange location. In the Outer Solar System, aboard a space station inhabited by newly-made exiles, a new program appeared suddenly, sent through various connections created by Auditorem for espionage purposes. Now, the connections were used as an escape route. Hargill was now as much an exile from Mercury as those of his new home was from Luna. His one hope is that he would not be taken as a prisoner, or seen as an attempt to sabotage the colony. He quickly made his presence known, setting off security and letting everyone know who he was and where he was from. He didn’t say why he was there, but he made it obvious that he wasn’t trying to be a spy. He hoped that those of the QLSS thought the same way.

Among all of his meddling, he sent out one message; “We need your help.”

Captain Gerard Francois barred his teeth as he fired a salvo of five missiles at a New Roman Mangonel Tank. He smiled broadly as the missiles knocked the turret off the tank. The turret then crushed a couple nearby Legionaries. He then blasted a hole in a Ferrum Bestia APC with his laser cannons. All this while on the move and avoiding enemy fire. The battle was building quickly, and he had already lost 5 mechs, two of which were Leopards. He turned the body of his mech to face an oncoming Ferrum Bestia. He fired his last two missiles, but they were hit by an anti-missile system and detonated in mid-air. He tried to fire his lasers, but they missed. Worried, Gerard tried to quickly back-pedal as the APC’s main gun turned to fire at him. His lasers had not recharged. He was waiting for death when the Ferrum Bestia burst into flames. He was confused until he saw a flight of six Torrent class fighter/bombers tear through the sky, hardly 30 feet off the ground. He gave a whoop of excitement as the Torrents unleashed hell with anti-tank and anti-infantry weapons. He heard several similar whoops from his mech-mates, and all for similar reasons. He turned quickly and headed back behind the lines to restock his missiles and get fixed up a bit. His mech’s left leg had been hit with a laser, and was limping.

As soon as he got back to HQ, he saw that many of the men there, most of whom were smiling, raucous, rough men, were all solemn for some reason. He stopped the mech, lowered it to it’s idle position, opened the cockpit and jumped out. He walked over to an engineer.

“Hey, buddy, what’s going on? Looks like a morgue in here.” He asked.
The engineer just looked at him, his face ashen and frowning. “Haven’t you heard? They bombed the Imperial house.”
“What?” Gerard said, surprised. “Who did?”
“Nobody knows. All we do know is that Lord Ariad is in the hospital. Both General bark and Admiral Laresse were arrested on accounts of treason. Varius Viricek is in charge right now.”
“Jesus…” Gerard said. His eyes just stared into space. “They don’t know who did it?”
“Not a clue. Viricek says it was probably an attempted Coup D’Etat carried out by high ranking military or government men. I don’t know, but if anyone can find the bastards behind this, it’s Viricek.”
“Yeah. He’ll get them, for sure.” Gerard said absent-mindedly. “Hey, can you guys fix up my mech and restock the missiles?”
“Sure thing, pal. We’ll have you back out there in an hour or so.” The engineer said.
“Thanks.” Gerard said quietly. He walked to and sat on a bench. Bombed! As he sat, he thought. First Masard is assassinated, then the Imperial House is bombed. What’s next, he thought, someone going to go out and cause a civil war just for fun?

"Sir, there is some type of virus running through our system." Dr. Huntingstein informed CEO Felix, as he stood in the center of the communications center.

"What virus?" Felix demanded, looking over the her shoulder.

"Away from the computers, fast!!" An AI suddenly yelled, tumbling out of his seat, a second later the rest of the AI's were leaping and running away from the computer consols. "Quick! stop the virus, its going to destroy everything." Dr. Huntingstein screamed in horror, as red warning banners appeared on the screens of every computer.

Dr. Huntingstein dropped behind a couch, while Felix stood bewildered in the center of the room. The next thing he knew a huge explosion rocked the building, and the computers all around the room started exploded in bursts of shrapnel. Dr. Huntingstein screamed in horror, just as the huge computer screen on the wall behind her fell from the wall and crashed on top of her, killing her instantly.

Felix dropped to the floor, but to late, a piece of metal stabbed straight through his chest, and he dropped to the floor, unconscious and bleeding to death.

The floor to ceiling windows that lined the walls exploded in hundreds of glass shards, and the huge server hard drive that stood against one wall exploded. The wall behind it was obliterated, and the roof came crashing down. Crushing the people and AI's who had not escaped, which was most of them.

CEO Cedric was awoken from his nap as Alice tumbled through his office door, and locked it behind her. "On the ground, sir!" Alice yelled, pushing Cedric to the ground behind his desk.

A second later the far wall, the one which contained the door to his office, exploded inwards. Pieces of melting brick and stone crashed on top of his desk, setting papers afire and knocking his computer on to the floor. Alice covered Cedric as much as she could, using her heat proof metal body to shield him.

After the explosion died down Alice pulled Cedric to his feet, and pulled him along behind her as she navigated the burnt out building.
When they finally cleared the smoke barrier, the sight that greeted them was horrendous. All over the city of New Atlantis huge explosions had taken place, as signal towers, computer servers, GSP's, satellite dishes, computers and other electrical devices had blown up.

Buildings burnt and smoked, cars lay in charred heaps in the road, signal towers and satellite dishes had collapsed and melted. The city was now a defenceless ruin, as all the ground-to-air defence systems had been destroyed, and many space ships had been burnt out while standing idle in their bunkers and hangers.

"God! What are we going to do?" Cedric mumbled, standing on the edge of the hill side, on which Alice's HQ building had stood minutes before. "The entire city is crippled."

"We have to reach New Asgard, fast." Alice said, she glanced around and noticed a Dark Arrow VIP transport landed in the middle of a street, its windows were sightly cracked, and its landing gear were destroyed, but it was fine otherwise. She ran over to it, with Cedric in tow, and climbed in.

---Now in New Asgard----

Cedric looked out one of the windows of the Transport, and quickly pulled himself back in horror. The city below was destroyed as well, the HQ tower had fallen over, and lay on its side, crushing huge sections of the city, the space port was a burnt out crater, the ground-to-air defences had been destroyed, and the dome above the city was cracked and damaged badly.

"We can't stay on Mercury, land us and we will pick up Dr. Norton, and then we will go and get away from here in the New Avalon space colony, it should be un damaged, it was already in orbit when this disaster struck," Cedric said.

Alice brought the Dark Arrow down slowly, and landed it in the middle of an abandoned market place. "Dr. Norton will be in her manor," Alice said, "I'll go get her, you stay here Sir." Alice quickly got out of the Dark Arrow, and vanished off in to the city.

"Just get it done soon." Caesar said in a commanding tone. "Time is of the essence and I'd hate to make the Venusians wait." the Engineer stood up as he finished speaking, and bowed as he left to get to work. in the instant, a centurion came running out from the entrance, pushing pass a few people to get to the Caesar.

"Good....you haven't left yet." the centurion said, being out of breath he need a moment of rest. "My lord, I bring terrible news from Mercury."

"What? what has gone wrong?" he asked, remaining calm for now.

The Centurion pulled out a comm device. "We've received this transmission Imperator Dracus. he said as he begun replaying it."

"This Imperator Dracus of the Tiberius! we've encounter heavy resistance from the mercurians and are taking we're taking heavy losses! we need reinforcements or we will fall!"

"....It seems I've underestimated Mercury." he said. "However I will not be beaten. I will have another fleet dispatched at once!"

"Then let me lead the relief force" the Legate said."Once we arrive, I will then personally take command of all forces remaining. and lead our men to victory."

Outside of Phobos, a small battle group was quickly assembled from ships patrolling around the moon. consisting of one carrier, four frigates and five gunboats. from the moon a shuttle left the port,it's destination being the Carrier.

As it landed, two Platoon's worth of legionaries and prime legionaries stood at attention in line formations as the Legate hastily stepped out from the boarding ramp, marching forward to meet the Centurion currently in charge of the Carrier.

As the two met, they've immediately left for the bridge. "Once we get to the bridge, we leave at once."

Varius Viricek stood at the head of a small table in a well lit room. Before him stood or sat the living Advisors. Several had died in the bombing of the Imperial House, and the rest were shaken. Viricek looked them over with his cold, lifeless eyes.

“Gentlemen, I do not wish to sound like your superior. Until recently, I was one of you, and it shall return to that way, but only after Lord Ariad has recovered. Until then, however, I will be in charge. Now, what is the current situation with the New Roman threat.”
One of the advisors spoke up. “Mr. Viricek, I think we should think about a peace tre-“
“To hell with peace!” Viricek yelled, slamming his fist on the table. “We aren’t going to let a little internal trouble make us weak! Now, what is the situation?”
“W-well, our forces in New Asgard are holding up, but due to the Alliance’s recent, uh, complications, we will soon be on our own. Also, our space forces have engaged the New Roman fleet. We have few reserve forces, and from reports, the New Romans have sent a relief force from Mars.”
Viricek swore, then stared at Dr. Bushia, who had been released after reconstructive nano-surgery. “Dr., I have a question.” Viricek stroked his chin and fixed his eyes on the Doctor. “Is Project Zeus II operational?”
Bushia stared at Viricek. “Project Zeus?” he said, shocked. “Mr. Viricek, Zeus was a porrf of concept. It was never meant for anything but tests. It-“
“I know that the first Zeus was a proof of concept, a prototype, but I also know that, before he died, Lord Masard gave you orders to finalize the technology and make it useful. It was codenamed Project Zeus II. Now tell me; Is the Zeus II operational?”
Bushia’s face flushed, and he was silent. Finally he spoke, one word. “Yes.”
Viricek’s face flashed a broad smile. “Perfect. Aim it at the New Roman flagship in orbit.”
“Are you certain, sir? If we use Zeus II against the New Roman, the repercussions will be great, nearly catastrophic, and we can’t risk anything more!”
“I don’t care for risks!” Viricek yelled, his face crimson. “I want to win this war, now! No treaties, no peace through diplomacy! We will annihilate the enemy, one man at a time, whatever the cost!”

Location: Classified, Mercury

In a rather large sized underground bunker, a group of 50 engineers and scientists got an unsettling order; “Zeus II is to be fired at New Roman flagship Tiberius.” The order was the first given to fire Zeus II, and the engineers, although they had been trained for this, were unsure what exactly to do. After about 15 minutes of deliberation, they had gotten to their stations and began running through the process.

In the largest part of the bunker was a massive nuclear reactor supplying Zeus II with the massive amounts of energy it needed. For the past few months, they had been running at a fraction of their potential. For the first time these reactors were fired up to run at full capacity.

In another part of the bunker, several engineers were hard at work doing a very dangerous job. They were charged with arming Zeus II. Zeus II, now, was not a rocket or super laser. It was a rail-gun, a massive piece of technology that could accelerate a solid projectile to a speed faster than most rockets or missiles. The job the engineers were doing was loading Zeus II’s projectile, a 6 foot diameter, 15 foot long, piece of heat and electrical resistant materials that encased a nuclear warhead. The "bullet" was intended to be fired at the Tiberius at speeds exceeding mach 10. The nuclear warhead was quite small, as most of the projectile was protective from the massive amounts of heat and electricity that would be exerted upon it. Still, it was a nuke. The impact alone would cripple the ship. The explosive would just add a very explosive insult to injury.

As soon as the round was loaded, the railgun began to rise. Above it, a massive trapdoor was opened, revealing the starry sky above. As the railgun cleared the bunker, it began to turn to face the sky. It pointed not directly at the New Roman fleet, but compensated for gravity and where the fleet would be when the round reached it. The engineers in the control room all held their collective breath as the chief engineer gave the order.

“Fire.”

With no atmosphere on Mercury, there was no plasma plume, as there would be on Earth, Venus, or even Mars. Instead, the only thing to see was the massive electrical arc between the projectile and the powered rails that flashed as the projectile exited the gun and its sabot casing fell off. It hurtled towards the Tiberius at a record speed, approximately mach 11.2. The engineers quickly lowered the gun back into it’s position to be prepare for loading again, if it was necessary. They also watched a screen that showed the projectile’s progress towards its target. They all held their breath and waited for impact, which would hopefully not be on a Royal or Alliance ship. If it missed, there was a timer on the warhead that would detonate it within range of the New Roman fleet.

Darrik Hargill waited patiently. He knew he would be secluded, and he simply waited. While he waited, he though of what the QLSS would do. He imagined they would interrogate him; probably think he was a spy sent by the Empire, when he was instead an exile. Finally, he decided to take the initiative. He sent a message out, to whoever was listening.

“I am not a spy, nor do I carry any virus. My name is Darrik Hargill, Program I.D. AAB-1001-13. I was a SOAR trooper for the Mercurian Empire. I was suspected of treason and sentenced for arrest. I came to you, the QLSS, to seek shelter and possibly aid. The Empire has been subject to a Coup D’Etat, and is now under the rule of Varius Viricek, who organized not only the recent bombing of the Imperial house in new Toronto, but also the assassination of Lord Adrian Masard. I wish to arrange a meeting with your leader, if possible. I know you most likely don’t trust me, but at least listen to what I have to say.”

Location: Tasmania Colony, Ceres, Asteroid Belt

Auditorem watched as the dwarf planet circled below. Being an AI, she was patient, able to do tedious, mind-numbing jobs without complaint or even frustration. She watched as Ceres slowly, very slowly, grew bigger, and watched as it drifted out of sight as the Colony readjusted to land on the surface. She even stood perfectly still as the colony landed with a slight thud upon the surface. The colony intercom spoke loudly; “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Ceres.”

At this, Auditorem finally moved. As the colony administrator, she had to organize colonists to make sure the colony didn’t die. She walked to her terminal and contacted each of the sub-administrators aboard the colony, giving them orders as to what they needed to accomplish; establish mineral mining operations, begin expansion of hydroponic farms. They were simple jobs, but required resources, most of which were not directly available, such as Helium-3.

After those jobs were done, she checked the news. General Bark and Admiral Laresse had been arrested by MPs, but Darrik Hargill had resisted arrest, and had killed three Royal Guardsmen before being killed. Auditorem smiled at that. She knew that Hargill had sent several copies of him to secure locations, including to her colony. He wasn’t really dead, even though Auditorem actually didn’t know which copy of Hargill was active. The news reporter probably didn’t even know that Hargill was an AI.

Auditorem looked at another screen in the mass of terminals that were available in her main office. One of them showed the current HE-3 reserves. They used most of the reserves to maneuver to and then to land on Ceres and another shipment was due to arrive as soon as it was safe. She hoped it would be sooner rather than later, or else the colony might not survive for too long. She turned and looked out a large, heavily reinforced glass window and watched as seven rovers sped out onto Ceres’ surface, bouncing along. The drivers of the rovers, most of which were human, were, she had discovered, rather rough and rowdy men. They’re job was to look for mineral deposits which could be mined. They had one of the more risky jobs, because if one of the rovers hit a crater at the wrong angle, it could easily flip in the low gravity, and the drivers could easily be killed from a leak in their suits. As they shrunk to dots in the distance, Auditorem stopped watching.

She walked to her terminal, and sent a message to Mercury. In it, she requested permission to construct a military force made primarily of AIs and non-sapient robots. Her reason, she said, was to protect from invasion by the QLSS, New Romans, or Anonymous. It would be just a garrison force, really, something to deter an enemy who wanted to just walk over the colony. Of course, she didn’t think there was a threat from the QLSS, but she couldn’t be too careful. She waited for the reply, which came back quickly, a simple message. “Permission Granted.”

Dorian stood as the small fleet assembled itself. The rescue operation would be secured by one cruisers worth of infantry, while the other three would maintain a distant orbit of the Mercurian and New Roman forces. Dorian would be escorted in a cybernetic upload neuro-linked to his real body, as to prevent him from being harmed in any surface attacks launched by either forces. He had been patient, if not quiet. The fleet made some final diagonstical checks before preparing to disembark, awaiting Dorian to board the VSV Revelation. The golden hue of the station and vessels was only reinforced by the elegant design of the Prominence-Class Cruiser.

Location: Neptune

The colonist filled cruiser came into view of Neptune, the captain scanning the planet for any open holes in the Stratosphere. If all were to go to plan, a small contingent of sapient A.I's would run a routine mining operation on the planet, and once enough Helium-3 was gathered from around the sector, the cruiser would depart for Venus in less than a month. Silence engulfed the hull as the cruiser came closer, opening a small hangar bay for the drop ships to deploy the mining drones. Venus was on the rise.

As Alice retuned to the VIP Transport, with Dr. Norton and her family in tow, Cedric quickly pulled Alice to the side and consulted her on something as as the Norton's loaded in to the ship. "Alice, do we have the equipment to attach a set of thruster engines to an asteroid and send it towards a certain target?" “
Yes, sir. If its still in one piece." Alice replied, wondering what Cedric wanted to hit with an entire Asteroid.

"Quick then, fly us to the command tower, It is hopefully still in one piece, because it didn't use the same main system as the rest of the city." Cedric quickly dropped in to a seat, and waited as the last of the Norton's got on board, and the doors closed. The ship slowly rose in to the air, and then turned sharply and the low orbit engines engaged, kicking the ship forward.

-A few minutes later-

The transport slowly lowered to the ground, the sudden lurch and the clunk when it hit the ground reminding them of the missing landing gear. "Everyone stay here." Cedric ordered, before climbing out of the ship.

He quickly ran across the huge section of concrete and entered the control tower. He jumped in to a lift, and hit the button for the top story.
A few minutes later he stepped out of the lift in to a bustling control tower. "Everyone!" He yelled out, to get peoples attention. "I am officially starting Operation: Luna termination." Cedric announced. "I want someone to get one of our space stations or satellites, and attach the most powerful thrusters they have up there, to the biggest astroid they can find."

-3 hours later-

"The thrusters has been put in to position, and attached, Sir." A man informed Cedric.

"Good, set the target as the QLSS Colony, Luna." Cedric said, typing in the pass-codes to activate the targeting system.

"Target locked, Sir, shall I launch Operation: Luna Termination?" The man asked, still wondering why Cedric would want to destroy the moon.

"Have General Bathurst take all our Naval forces and escort the rocket within one zone of its target."

"Yes, Sir." The man turned to a consol behind him and brought up the contact channel to the General. "CEO Cedric orders you to take all Naval forces and escort the Asteroid we brief you on earlier to within one zone of its target."

An answer of 'orders received' was received from General Bathurst, and every space ship in the sky turned and started surrounding the Astroid. "Fire thrusters!" Cedric ordered. He watched as the huge rocket engines strapped to the rocket fired off, and the Asteroid jerked forward.
This was a last ditch effort by the Alliance to destroy Anonymous; a very risky ditch effort. Cedric knew sending the entire Alliance navy would cripple them and cause the loss of all Mercury colonies, but it was better than loosing the entire solar system to Anonymous.

Cedric turned and left the room, and took the elevator once again. He stepped out of the lift on the ground floor, and ran across the Transport and clambered in. "Take us to the New Avalon Colony!" Cedric ordered.

"Yes, Sir." Alice replied, she closed the doors and hit the ignition switch, starting the thrusters. The ship lurched forward, shaking around its passengers because of the damage to its landing gear. Soon the transport was heading towards the orbiting New Avalon space colony.

Location: New Olympia - Hyperion-Saturn.

Marian Daisies watched from a hovering Dark Arrow VIP Transport as the huge New Olympia space colony settled down, and hundreds of sapient and non-sapient AI's began constructing the huge dome that would surround the city.

Marian turned from the window to face an AI that had just come up behind her. "Two transmissions for you, Mil'lady." The AI informed her in a flat robotic voice.

Marian took the flat, glass pad that the AI was holding, and tapped a icon on its touch screen. The first transmission, from the QLSS began playing.
After listening to the QLSS transmission Marian set the second one to play, this message was anonymous. "This is from a friend, I wish to warn you that Mercury is in chaos. New Asgard and New Atlantis have been destroyed by a virus of unknown source that detonated almost every electrical device in the cities, CEO Felix and Dr. Huntingstein are dead, the New Romans approach quickly, and will soon rule the cities and the Mercurian Empire Imperial house has been bombed, leaving many of their high ranking officials dead. CEO Cedric and Alice are escaping towards Saturn as I write, I hope they find you alive and well, as someone wishes you dead."

Marian glanced down at the transmission details that had appeared on the screen, below the text version of the transmission. The message had been sent from a device located somewhere in New Asgard, The message had been heavily encrypted, and a protected by termination script, It had been sent from state of the art equipment, that had been destroyed or turned off, so the exact position of the equipment could not be located.

Marian turned back to the QLSS transmission and began sending a reply.
"Hello QLSS, this is Marian Daisies of the Corporations Alliance. Your information is incorrect, we are colonizing Hyperion, not Titan, we agree to a non-aggression pact. I have just received word from Mercury, the planet is in a state of chaos, and the Corporations Alliance colonies on the planet have been destroyed. I enclose the message that I received, to help brief you on the situation."
Marian attached a copy of the anonymous message, and then sent the transmission off.

Location: The DELTA space station - Mercury Orbit.

Ashley Goldheart was studying the image that one of the several satellites that orbited Mercury had sent to her. No one had noticed her missing before, or after the explosions, and in the chaos no one noticed that it was her that had last accessed the main computer terminals, so she was currently safe and secure on the DELTA space station, with no one suspecting her of starting the attack. She had used her access ID to take over what was normally an automated space station, and she had also taken control of several of the Corporations Alliance satellites.

"Looks like its all working out." Ashley said to her herself, now only one more task had to be accomplished before she ruled her own faction.

"Just Marian Daisies left to remove." Ashley muttered to herself, as she got out of the chair, hit the "SELF DESTRUCT" button on the control consol, typed in the password to activate SELF DESTRUCT mode, and quick ran to the docked Dark Arrow VIP Transport that sat in the landing bay.

Ashley typed in the combination to open the landing bay doors on a control panel positioned on one of the landing bay doors, and then she quickly got in to the transport, closed the doors behind her, and sat down in the seat next to her pilot. "Get us out of here!" Ashley yelled, as the space station lights began to flash red and alarms began to go off around them.

"Yes Ma'am!" The pilot yelled over the alarms, watching as the landing bay doors opened slowly. The doors aren't going to open in time, Ma'am!" He screamed a few minutes later the doors were only a quarter opened in almost five minutes, obviously something was wrong with them.

"Blow them up then!" Ashley replied, leaning forward to scan the many buttons, gages and computer screens for the one that controlled the laser cannons. She finally found the control stick for the cannons, and pressed the "FIRE" switch.

The pilot screamed in horror as he watched her engage the high power laser cannons. The laser blasts crashed in to the doors, blowing them out, but the damage didn't stop there. The Transport was pushed backwards, snapping one of the landing gear off, and crashing it in to the air lock doors that lead in to the inside of the space station.

The pilot was jerked forwards, and his head hit the control panel with a resounding crack. "Hell!" Ashley cursed, pulling herself from her seat and running to the door's of the Transport. She pulled a breathing mask from the wall next to the door, strapped it on to her face, and opened the doors, she dropped out, not waiting for the stairs to lower and ran for one of the escape shuttles which was parked near by.

She clambered in to the two person shuttle, closed the hatch, hit the engines and strapped herself in to the seat. The Death Arrow blasted forward, out of the hanger doors, and out in to deep space just as the DELTA space station self destructed. The shuttle had just cleared the blast radius when the station detonated, sending thousands of tons of metal flying through space.

Dorian looked into space as the fleet began to depart the station, hoping that the Mercurian War and the Anonymous attacks would cease soon. He had little time before the conflict spilled onto Venus, where the nation would be helpless against desperate creatures and machines of all sorts. Before he descended into madness, a nearby Kriegsmarine called out to him, revealing a small Holopad to him.

" Direct plot to Mercury in check. National refugee camp allocated one kilometer near the ruins of New Asgard. We are 1:3 of the way through travel sir, two more solar phases and we'll be there in no time. " He added charismatically.

Dorian smiled and decided to relax, knowing that worrying would only weaken his image to his people. He quickly checked the Holopad and then quietly set it down. He saluted the Kriegsmarine before departing for the CIC Level of the vessel.
