High Commandant Zap'linda, or Zap as he was called by his troops and friends, sat in the command section of the base crawler. He watched as the sun rose over the horizon. "Ah the memories of leading the tanks in the final charge during the reballion, I remember the day was just like this" he said quietly. Emerald nodded, she had been given Zap's old tank to lead thier forces on this mission. "We always remember times like this, when it was to quiet and the wind seems to have gone and the air is still as if the world has stopped and time stands still" she said. Zap had said that on the day he remembered. "The calm before the storm, the deep breath before the plunge" Warrant Officer Tion Xalian said, her adopted cousin Hailie Nikalay standing beside her. "This is all true" Zap said, he checked his morning memos and saw the reports of the crawlers giant artillary cannon was ready for use. He picked up his communicater. "Firebase, this is the force commander, begin live fire testing, fire at co-ordinantes 227 north, 338 east, use depleted-uranium rounds, fire for effect" Zap said. He had deliberately picked a spot that should be clear, because Tion and Hailie's last recon flight had showed a clear spot where these sorts of tests could be conducted, but that was three months ago. Zap soon turned to Hailie and Tion. "Go on a recon flight to 226 north, 337 east, stay at medium to low altitude, I want word on the outcome of the test, tell me what happened to the trees around the clearing we targeted" he said. Tion and Hailie saluted and walked to the hanger bays and took thier interceptor/bombers out on the flight. "Shall I head back to the front lines and begin your plan to move our lines forward?" Emerald asked. "Yes, go do that, I have other things to do before three minutes past noon when the movement shall begin" Zap replied. Emerald saluted and also left, heading down to the mech bay where the tanks and troops transports sat, waiting for deployment orders.

Master-General Garl Hellstrom surveyed the mountain range before him from one of the deck arms of the great mobile fortress (http://img168.imageshack.us/f/ac4asizechartrn2xi9.jpg/) he had been given by to put through it’s paces. The massive machine, called “The Humbler” by the troops for it’s massive size and destructive potential, was active but unmoving. Garl had set it in position to protect the civilian operation of taking core samples of the planet to test for usable resources.

“How much longer?” asked the voice of Armine Heldane.

“Few hours, give or take,” Hellstrom answered. “Then we move to the next area. Few more of these and we can get the civilians off-world.”

“Then what?”

“Simple. We proceed with the original operation until we hear from Salusia.”

“Understood. Any word from Nexus?”

“You really need to ask? He’s been back for around two hours. May not be the most personable, but he gets his work done.”

The Brigadier-General turned and left Hellstrom to his own thoughts. His time on Forhilnor could either be a short excursion or a drawn-out one depending on the results of the sample testing back home. As a veteran of no less than thirteen different wars in and around the Pendulum system and possessing a near-entire cybernetic body, Hellstrom was more than prepared for the long haul if that was the word handed down from High Command.

Blitz, one of General Gradius' top lieutenants strode along a corridor towards an elevation platform that led up to the Bridge of the Mobile Command Base currently on the move towards their latest target, the Telka forces.

As the platform went to a full stop, the intimating android stepped forward, approaching the General's command chair in the center of the room. kneeling before it as it rotated in his direction. "What do you have to report?" the General demanded with a booming metallic voice.

"Exalted General." Blitz spoke. "My scouts have finally found and sent the location of the Telka encampment. however I regret to inform you that the scouts were destroyed by a patrol."

"No matter, they've served their purpose. Have your forces move ahead and weaken the Organics. it won't take long for the main assault force to reach you."

"Understood, General." Blitz said as he stood up, bowed and left to assemble the 2nd Advance Guard.

"Sir, a Yethar Collective scout group was encountered on the edge of our encampment, we terminated them, but we believe they had already transmitted out location to their headquarters." 1st Lieutenant Barkley said, saluting High-Commander Strazvent. "Do I arm all defence forces, sir?" Barkley asked, as he glanced at a holographic map of Forhilnor that hovered on thye High-Commanders desk. It showed various coloured sections, displaying the ground each faction currently controlled.

"Yes, ready the forces, the Yethar will strike soon. Be prepared for a full force attack." High-Commander Strazvent replied, as he touched the scarlet section of the map, the ground controlled by the Telka. The map instantly changed, deleting the rest of the planet from the display and showing only the Telka territory. "Arm all tanks, ground units and the external defence systems on the mobile HQ." High-Commander Strazvent said, waving a hand over the map. The map instantly changed to show the terrain. "Where will they approach from?"

"They will have to approach from the north, the east is a volcano strewn wasteland, the south is the sea, which is filled with mines and sea-to-air defence systems, and the west is a nuclear wasteland." 1st Lieutenant Barkley said, filling in the facts that High-Commander Strazvent wanted.

After Tion and Hailie returned to report the clearing had become a giant crator with the forest burning around it Zap checked the at map to see what was going on. Since they had been here they had been able to scout out enemy bases in the immediate area. "We have a small Salusian base slightly to the north of west of our current location, I say we move up there and introduce ourselves" Emerald said. "Not yet Lieutenant, I say we show give them a small taste of our artillary" Commandant Spark'alinda, Zap'alinda's sister, said. She was in charge of the artillary on the base. "No sister, we shouldn't show the ace up our sleeves until later, Emerald, sound the charge, Tion and Hailie you two should cover them from the air" Zap said. The map showed a red line snaking across the map. It was the path they would take. "We go through these canyons here, the crawler wont make it though there so the main force will go, we shall go a bit more west then you and take the high road above the canyon, hopefully they'll focus on us while you all move into position" he finished. All the commanders nodded. "After your in position then what?" Tion asked. "My darling sister will fire the regular 110mm cannona and bombard thier defences, covering the advance for the rest of you and hopefully clearing the way" Zap said. "Just like what was meant to happen during the end of the reballion, lets hope these guys aren't smart enough to work out whats going on like the rebels did all those years ago" Hailie said. They all served in that war together, they knew what happened that day. They also hadn't expected the rebels to have any battlecruisers, but they did. But that was still years ago, but they knew any military worth thier salt would have some tricks that the 66th didn't know about.

--------

Emerald lead her troops through the canyon, Hailie and Tion a few hundred meters above them, just below the top of the canyon. It was a good 12 hours of hard marching just to reach the outskirts of the enemy base, and they would go almost non-stop until they reached thier siege point. Hailie, Tion and Emerald looked at the canyon walls, seeing points where they could lay traps just in case they needed to retreat and block off the canyon. Explosives would be good enough, wired to a trigger so they could be blown when they wanted them to be.

---------

The base crawler raised the stabaliser legs and lowered back onto it's tracks, the armoured sides closed back up and it got turned back into the mobile fortress it was. This took two minutes, it was more then 10 times as long when they had to set up, they had no idea why it took longer to set it into base mode, but it did. After which they moved up the mountain road they made and onto the cliffs. They would be, for now, three kilometers behind the rear flank of thier forces. But they knew it was more direct this way, so they may be three kilometers ahead of the forces by the time they set up and fired.

"Did ya see da squad get squashed like dat." A Forhiln scout whispered to another as they just witnessed the death of a Yethar scouting patrol. The Forhiln had been watching recent enemy activities to understand them from a distance. Soon enough, however, they would challenge the enemy in a good battle.

"When do we makes da move?" The Forhiln were hard to spot for them being green and hiding amongst the green foliage that covered their planet.

"Not until da boss says da enemy is position. Seems like dey is gonna retaliate in some way or another so we just has to sit back and watch!" The green skin finished and continued looking through his make-shift sniper rifle. It wasn't meant for long range but the positive was they knew of which lied ahead.

---------------------------------
At a nearby base, the commander of it awaited for a signal from other locations that scouts would relay back with orders to attack. Bombardments would begin in selected areas while in others, a green tide would come charging over the battlefields to test the enemy.
