As soon as you get the details we discussed filled in I'll work on my character sheet and get it posted after we make final decisions on some of the details we are going for. I'll be looking forward to seeing your character sheet too!

This line from "Hothouse Flowers" perfectly sums up Savannah (surname to be decided). She's the Head of Marketing for a company known as Broomfield and Fletch, a company dedicated to the building and selling of luxury inner-city apartments. Outwardly, Savannah is the ultimate ball-breaking, perfectly-groomed, successful nolle-me-tangere exec. But inside... failed relationships, personal insecurities and a dreadful guilty secret means her perfect confidence is only skin deep. Savannah relies heavily on her PA - but when the PA leaves, and is replaced by a new incumbent - and a male at that - can this hothouse orchid survive on reputation and bluff?

The setting:

The story take place predominantly in Providence, Rhode Island, the central location being the six floors rented in Holmes House, a multi-storey skyscraper in the CBD of the city. The time is our own era.


The plot:

Savannah is devastated by the fact that Deloris ,her PA, is pregnant and has left the company for an indefinite period. Will her new PA be up to the job of acting as her ass-coverer, nursemaid, support and comforter? Then things get worse - the Director of the company appoints Rhys Dwyer as her new PA - and the appointment is non-negotiable. Can Rhys overcome Savannah's gender-prejudice and reserve to fill Dolores' shoes? Will Savannah's temper and Rhys' refusal to be browbeaten cause an explosive rift that can never be healed? Will the hothouse flower bloom or wilt, when subject to the winds of change? And is it hatred or URST which is blooming in the glasshouse?

The Aim

While there is no doubt this is to be an M-rated RP, the aim is to make it "adult" in all senses, not just the sexual. Yes, the erotic may or may not be a factor, but the main stream is the emotion and interaction between the characters. This is a story of pride and prejudice, but there's no guarantee of a happy Jane Austen ending. Suspense is the key, with no pre-ordained outcome. If they are to fall into each others' arms and stay there, they'll both have to win each other. And if they don't - well, there's a lot of fun to be had in their failure to do so.

Appearance: Rhys is about 5' 10" tall, lithe and slim, firm rather than muscle-bound. He walks with a quick step, and usually dresses well. He has brown hair and grey eyes which look blue in certain lights. He is 24 years old.

Personality: He's a confident guy, with an underlying sensitivity. Rhys is good at his job, and has proven himself, but lacks the educational qualifications to rise much higher. He's a great organizer, can make a computer dance, is highly self-assertive and something of a charmer. He's brilliant at attention to detail. There's a few downsides, though. The suicide of his former drug-addict fiancee two years ago has left him cynical about love, he's not much good at respecting authority, he has trouble controlling his temper (though he's non violent), he's broke because he's still paying off debts his late gf left, and (shock, horror) he smokes!

Sexuality: He's straight, as far as it goes, but regards himself as "off the market" for an indefinite period. He's addicted to cheesecake, 50s style, rather than porn, and he thinks Marilyn Monroe with her skirt blowing up, or a pantyhose ad, is sexier than a three hour hardcore sex romp.

History: Rhys was born in London, and came to Rhode Island when his parents moved to the US when he was 6. He still has traces of his cockney accent, which come out when he is stressed. Political differences (he's liberal, conservationist, non-homophobic and anti-racist) have estranged him from his father, and he's trying to rebuild the relationship without caving in. He joined the company a year ago, and has impressed those in authority with his ability and professionalism. At the time the story starts, he is working in the mail room - but promotion looms...

Age: 30

Position: Director Of Marketing

Appearance: Savannah Payne stands at an even 5' 6" and is of a lithe, but solid frame weighing in at a mere 125 pounds. Her green eyes are accented by long lush lashes and her long auburn hair is tinted with streaks of reddish gold that frame her face. With curves in all of the right places, and long, lean legs she is a sight to behold. Savannah is the kind of woman who, commands attention and captures a room full of business men easily.

Savannah has worked hard for her position at the company and is known to be a real ball breaker both in the office and within the industry. When she is on the job, she is a formidable business opponent and expectant employer. Both beautiful and vivacious, Savannah has no problem getting a date, but business and pleasure are ALWAYS kept separate, whether it be her personal relationships with men, or with anyone within the companies employ. While she does try to be friendly to her employees and keep an "open door policy" by which, they may feel free to address concerns with her, she does not socialize with her employees outside of work, other than at business events, or social events and functions within the company. Savannah rarely breaks her own rules, and has almost never broken that one cardinal rule, other than with Dolores. Savannah's penchant for older men is evident, although age itself bares little to no importance to her when she is dating, as she feels that maturity is not a matter of age alone.

Savannah's outward, business like appearance is one thing, but Savannah bears a deeper darkness weakness in the form of a lack of self esteem; even though she has never lacked in her ability to get a date, she has lacked in the ability to maintain any long term relationships and the few that she has managed to maintain have ended in disaster. Her last such relationship and breakup is indicative of this by the effect it has had on Savannah, and defines just how devastated she has become. Savannah now tends to snap at people more often, and much quicker. She also finds herself, when she is not being overly cautious, becoming emotional at the most inopportune of times. She also tends to loose focus more, even when she is not taking a break in her office.

With her current P.A. Deloris leaving the company Savannah finds herself without not just a wonderful assistant, but a confidant. Deloris was wonderful at making sure Savannah didn't lose focus on the many tasks that needed to be done in a days time, along with keeping her on track and on schedule, nor did she mind as she was paid a handsome salary for performing what would seem to some as demeaning tasks.

Savannah has another side to her, where she will at times become lost in her thoughts, or fantasies while in her office during working hours, one of Savannah's deepest darkest desires is having the ability to be as dominant outside of work, when she wants to be, as she is while at work. In reality, Savannah tends to blush a lot. It is only when she is not at work, that she allows it to happen. While at work she is often times referred to as the Ice Queen, or Queen Payne.

Often times if she wasn't on the phone to Deloris every hour or so, or calling meetings, or going to meetings, Deloris would find an excuse to make sure that Savannah wasn't off on one of her day dreams, or meditating for too long, always knocking on the door before entering, or calling. When Savannah didn't want to be disturbed, she didn't want to be disturbed and it was one rule she enforced, even with Deloris.


While Savannah was at one time very task oriented and a stickler for details, lately her focus has been off due to the recent break up with a man she thought might finally be "the one". Because of her deep friendship with Deloris, the P.A. was more than happy to help Savannah through this crucial time of Savannah's life, often making the stressed out executive look better, literally both in her job, and in the way she dressed and presented herself. Deloris was on top of all of the latest fashions, often making sure Savannah was dressed just perfectly every day to face whatever came her way. The closet full of designer clothes in Savannah's office was a testament to Deloris's great taste.

Savannah enjoys de-stressing, in some of the most unusual ways while in her office, among these are listening to various types of music, (mostly eighties rock) and soothing nature sounds, often times anything that others would never consider listening to in a business office. She also will do meditation, and yoga which are just a few, among "other" interests that help her relieve her stress. While Savanna believes purely in the fact that while you are at work, you should be a professional, her private office, coupled with the fact that she works long hours, every day for the company, afford her luxuries that other employees do not have.

She also maintains a firm stance on her employees being allowed to do whatever they wish when not on the clock, as long as they can still perform their duties while at work. Drug testing is not necessary, partially because she herself refuses to take a drug test. While Savannah would not be considered a drug addict by any means, she does enjoy relaxing at home with a good joint, or drink. Savannah will not tolerate racism in any way, shape, or form from her employees and to do so at work is grounds for immediate dismissal.

Her employees adhere to a dress code, which is not company wide but department wide and although casual dress is allowed, anyone in a higher up administrative position would wear only what would be considered as corporate dress, a rule which Savannah will at times break slightly, depending on her mood. She does, and can have a rebellious nature at times but only the president of the company would dare say anything to her and because she is too valuable to the company she, for the most part, is left alone.

Okay, I'm finally getting this week calmed down and am trying to formulate some ideas I've got rolling around in my head into a post, so I should be able to post (unless another emergency comes up again ) this weekend sometime depending on how quickly I can come up with a post I like. :)

What a great post! Unfortunately, I'll be away this weekend, and back Sunday (Saturday night for you) - I really think I have an idea for how Rhys will react though, and how he will try hard but get it just wrong enough to get into the poo!

Just two minor questions for details sake - Would a dress (a corporate type one of course) be acceptable, and usual wear for Savannah, and what colour is the slip?

I'm glad you enjoyed it. The half slip would be white, and nope, not a dress, she still has her blouse on and doesn't want to change it. Btw, it's ivory colored since I'm certain I didn't mention it before. And she'd be more the skirt and dress suit/slacks with a jacket type of gal than normal dresses.

Sy, I'm working on a post now, and wanted to let you know awhile, I will have Savannah close the meeting then move them and will allow Rhys time to make Deloris's office his own while she attends to her client, and etc etc...

Well, the post will involve skipping into the day a bit, I figure it will give us both time to recollect ourselves after the meeting, allow Rhys time to adjust and get his office set up the way he wants and etc but I will try to bring the post to an end on a point where it allows them to re-connect for our next following posts and open up possibly more dialect. Dialect is good but sometimes unless one is working on a co post, it can be a bit harder to get through without shortening the posts lengths considerably until the dialect is over so maybe we want to do some upcoming post as a co for the dialect posts, or not depending on our schedules.

We will figure it out. XD

Well, I think the best way to handle dialogue is for me to allow you to meta-game my character, and then let me have a final edit just to check there's nothing I really think doesn't fit my idea of his character. There's also the possibility of somehow synching our timescales to do a real time chat (I work casual hours, so maybe we can arrange something)...

Anyway, my post didn't really need much dialogue, more of an internal soliloquy. From this point on, my easy ride is over though...

Well I wont metagame your char, I can just send you whatever I think may require a response from you and work it that way instead. I rarely ever move anothers character, or speak for them unless it is necessary to keep a story moving, and then usually only with their permission. XD

I think the posts will tend to be much shorter for awhile as we get into the dialogue for this and wrap it up before tackling a coming chapter.

We certainly should do the actual meeting in very short, dialogue-posts. I'm not sure whether it would be at a local bar, or at her place. The former would be more realistic, the latter give more dramatic possibilities.

Rhys, of course, is not quite as thick as his hesitation suggests. Fact is, he's always considered her out of reach, and isn't quite sure that this is really happening. Part of him suspects he's putting 2+2 together to make 6! We really should come up with some way (apart from her telling him) to dispel all his doubts, though maybe it might be better for her to lay her cards on the table?

This RP reminds me why I fell in love with the hobby!
