FTL - Faster-Than-Light

Since we've decided that FTL travel will exist, I thought we should begin working out the ins and outs of it, and creating and listing the drives we want, and which the Cras Terra universe will allow.

I think they the following classifications may work when deciding the risks involved with each method, and the technology level needed by a race to use it, but please feel free to suggest your own classifications.

Common Methods:
Name/Proposed By/Risks Involved/How It Works
Cheap, common methods of travel used by most races. May mostly be used for cheaply transferring goods and troops between planets, or be used for everything by races who have only just achieved FTL travel. These may not be very safe methods.

Uncommon Methods:
Name/Proposed By/Risks Involved/How It Works
More expensive methods of travel, used by more advanced races. May be used for transferring VIPs more safely, transferring more fragile merchandise or for transfer of other important cargo. May be more safe than "Common Methods", but still may have risks.

Space Folding Drive/Atrum Daemon
The Space Folding Drive was invented by the Vaanshii people. It worked via a network of beacons, which were powered off space-gas. The ship was 'teleported' from one beacon to another by space folding, which is like taking a piece of paper, putting two dots on it, and then folding the paper to line up the dots. The risks included: The chance that the shield of the ship or the beacon would destabilise, therefore crushing, shredding or disintegrating the ship. Transport was instant.

Rare Methods:
Name/Proposed By/Risks Involved/How It Works
Much more expensive methods of travel, used by hyper-advanced races or advanced races for VERY important cargo. May be used to transfer very high-profile VIPs, World Leaders or top-secret/hyper-fragile cargo. The safest and fastest methods of FTL travel.

Chayoti Wormholes/K
The Chayoti Wormholes are built constantly by the Ophanim, robotic servants of the long extinct Chayoti species. They orbit thousands of stars in the galaxy, and connect thousands of light-years of space. There are minimal risks, in fact there are none. Even the death of the star the wormhole station orbits would not kill it. The worm-holes are practically nuteral, and can be taken over by anyone. They are run by passive and none self-aware AI systems.

I have added the Chayoti Wormholes and Space-Folding Drive, and categorized them as their creators suggested :)
