The Varcan are a graceful humanoid species from the moon of the gas giant Timella, Loa. They stand 7ft tall, and are graceful and muscular. They are master architects, and the Fortress of Lae Higha, a huge ancient fortress on Loa still stands today in almost perfect condition almost 40,000 years after its construction.

The Varcan have pastel coloured hair, which is long and silky on females and short and spiked on males. Their eyes are green or yellow, and slightly feline, and they were also masters of stealth. No one has ever managed to work out the Varcan's secret to their amazing stealth. The Varcan's also love community and they build their cities in clusters. The Varcan are also master craftsman, and their ornaments and hand-made furniture grace the homes of the rich and powerful across the galaxy.

The Lord Chancellor rules the species, and the members of Senate of Lords are in charge of each sector of the government. The Varcan Federation is an ally of the Imperial Empire of United Worlds, but it is free from their actual power. The Federated Navy and Federated Military is large, and protects the boundaries of their territory, which spreads out across the 'back-end' of the Imperial Empire of United Worlds. The Varcan's have a no-invasion policy, and they will not take over a planet on which a sapient species exists. The Federation rules 164 habitable planets, and its capital is the planet Kighton, as Loa has become too small to house the capital.

Loa is the homeworld of the Varcan’s. The planet is the tidal locked moon of the Gas Giant, Timella. Only the size of Luna, the moon has a thick atmosphere and heavy air. Loa is inhabited by many large predators, and several species of herbivore that will and can kill. The planet is covered in seas and thick jungle. There are no islands and no high mountains, as the moon has very low volcanic activity. The capital is Varlok, which is really a series of cities, connected by underground tunnels and a series of suspended walkways, some brand new and some thousands of years old. The city complex is constantly expanding, and already covers some 3000 acres.Kighton was once a beautiful garden world, with unique wildlife and stunning landscapes. The planet was taken over by the Varcan's, and quickly chosen for the Federation's capital. The planet has no moon. The city complex known as Kigh was constructed, and it spread rapidly. Within a thousand years it covered the entire planet and all of the natural habitats were destroyed.

Kigh feature a huge palace complex at its center, where the Senate meets, the Lord Chancellor lives, and the headquarters of every important agency is built, including the Military, Navy, Secret Service and other related agencies. The Lrar Waterfalls, huge waterfalls twice the size of Nigra, sit in one section of the city, surrounded by buildings and are one of the biggest tourist attractions.
The Varcan’s decide, several thousand years ago to stop using the Chayoti wormholes and create there own FTL travel methods, in case the Wormholes malfunctioned and leaf them helpless. They ended up developing the Space Slicer-Drive, more commonly known as the Dunewood Drive.

It opens a wormhole through the fabric of space, and depending on the power used, it can remain open for 10-30 minutes. The wormholes take about five minutes to form before they can be used, allowing those on the other end minimal warning, but not enough for them to do anything, therefore making this an ideal stealth attack method. The wormhole can be sent to connect two points of space up to about seventy light-years from each other. Once in the wormhole travel time is decided by how much energy is used to power the wormhole. Enough energy and travel can be made instantaneous. The wormholes are also of a size limited, and huge warships or colony ships could not be transferred. They also explode when any object is inside during the closing of the wormhole, releasing a burst of highly concentrated radiation.

Eventually the Dunewood Drive was scrapped, after almost a thousand ears of use because of growing safety risks, the rising cost of using the technology, and the development of new technologies. The Varcan Federation recognized the threat posed by its use by other races, and every Dunewood Drive under Varcan Federation jurisdiction was impounded, and alternate drives given to them for free. The impounded drives were destroyed, and all copies of the blueprints for re-creating the drive were burnt. Within a century on a few knew how to use or build the technology, and that number slowly falls every generation.

The new drive, the Titan-Hyper-Dimensional Drive, or T-HD Drive instantly teleports the ship anywhere in the galaxy by pulling the ship in to a Hyper-Dimension where gravity, physics and everything else that rules our universe doesn’t exist. The drive then increases the speed of the ship to seven trillion times the speed of light and spits it out at the other end minutes later. The only limits of the drive are that it can only teleport to sections of the galaxy already included in the Astro-Maps the computer holds, and that it can only teleport as far out as the onboard computer can calculate a trajectory and course.

The technology has several problems though, including that it causes ships to need constantly repairing, as the strain put on the ship from the hyper-speedy travel damages the haul heavily. Also large amounts of Dark Matter are needed to power the shields and the drive, creating thousands of Matter Demons, which the “MD Parol” battles off. The ship also has to take large breaks of almost an entire day between jumps, and they must be periodically replaced, causing vast expense. The benefits must be worth all this though, as the Senate Of Lords keeps the technology in use, but it does limit the expansion of the species.
