The Hadron Wall marks the end of civilization as it it known, though some say that true civilization ends on the border of Niflheim first. Beyond the wall is a land known as the Frozen Wastes, or Jotunheim, as it is called in the ancient tongue. It is a barren and unforgiving land where little grows but the mighty Jortspine, a tree akin to ironwood, but many times stronger. In the uncharted wasteland of Jortunheim, monsters, horrors, and barbarians wander.

Frost Giants, the children of Ymir, form massive tribes and scourge the Wastes, hunting down human barbarians, Elek, and Rhinoch and eat them whole and raw. Frost Giants typically stand around ten to fifteen feet in height with bushy beards and wild manes of red or gold. Typically unarmored, the Giants wear little more than the hides of their slain prey and use bones and Jortspine as armored scales.

Frost Drakes also live beyond the wall. Being some damned breed of dragon, the Frost Drake is completely lacking in the majesty that is associated with the dragons of the south. They have a shorter body than southern dragons, though their bodies are thicker and more heavily armored. They are cruel creatures that have fallen from the grace of whatever ancient gods spawned Dragonkind and take great pleasure in the suffering of "lesser creatures". Cruelly intelligent and sadistic, the Frost Drakes are commonly called the demons of Dragonkind. To kill one brings great weight to ones name.

Thunderwolves and Direwolves are mighty creatures of wolfen kin that seem to stem from some manner of nightmare. The Direwolf is, on average, the size of a pony when fully grown with all matching proportions. The creatures are dreadfully cunning and when tamed make some of the finest warhounds in Ashahiem. Thunderwolves are almost a completely different breed all on their own - with eyes glowing red, teeth and claws like iron, fur like steel wool, and being of a great enough size to hunt a bear for prey, the Thunderwolf is a creature of legend, and is also the crest animal for House Russik. Very few Thunderwolves have ever been taken captive and turned in to animal companions, but Logan Russik has two, Greki and Freki. The jaws of the Thunderwolf are unique to that of other wolves, having two pairs of tusk-like fangs on their lower jaw.

Picts are the native folk beyond the wall. Cannibalistic barbarians and savages that wander is mazzive hordes, warring with one another to make food and take more lands. The most powerful of hordes has a high chief who is responsible for defending his people against the other terrible creatures in the Wastes.
